Went to GoldinBlack for dinner around 6 PM, and we (me + 1) were immediately seated. There were plenty of tables in a nice, quiet atmosphere. To start, we ordered the shrimp spring roll as an appetizer; it was pretty plain yet refreshing on a hot day. The standout dishes were the entrees. I ordered the Heritage Bulgogi and Veggies with pork, and my fiancée ordered the BibimBap Escape with beef. The veggies were fresh and slightly crispy--not overcooked. The pork and beef both had excellent flavor, and the portion size was enough to be filling but not enough for leftovers. I also had the Cinnamon Ginger Punch, which reminded me of Horchata without the milk. I would definitely eat here again.
The veggie noodle soup with veggie mandu and tofu fresh rolls were good. I was very happy with the amount of tofu and ratio of tofu and mandu to vegetables. The soup broth was good on garlic but I did add some soy and sriracha to add a little more flavor depth. My partner got the beef stir fry which he said was eh. He felt the noodles were tasty but the beef and vegetables were not very flavorful and wouldn't order it again. The service was good overall and we had waters refilled frequently. You do go up to pay at the register and bus your table yourself though. Ambiance wise it was nice - I think they were going for classy with the decor and jazz music. I think their menu had a lot of veggie and even vegan options compared to most Korean spots so I appreciated that and would return to try more.
Honestly one of the best Korean places I've ever been too! My go to place for their ramen. Their kimchi is one of the best. Usually pretty empty. Their ramen is a chicken ramen with kimchi on the side I think? But all in all, really great place!
I think this is gem for takeout in the neighborhood. The gimmari appetizer was yummy. All the food is made fresh and hot when brought out. They do not serve any alcohol. The decor inside seems like it was borrowed from a different cafe. It was quiet and warm on a cold rainy night.
Take out review: Ordered some hot noodle soup and the dumplings for a quick lunch. It was not too bad but the noodle soup was quite subtle and flavorless. I guess if I was trying to cut on my sodium then I would appreciate it more haha. The dumplings weren't too bad actually. Not too special or anything but I guess I might come back for a quick lunch if I'm nearby again. Food: 5/10 Value: 4/10
This was my first time having Gimmari. It definitely wasn't bad, and the sauce was kinda spicy. The jajang was rice, and if you want noodles instead of rice you would have to pay extra for it. We chose the garlic pork option, which was really good but tasted more like beef than garlic pork (which I'm not complaining about). The jajang was too strong to taste the garlic, but the pork was super tender. The food wasn't bad, but it felt too average for its price.
My boyfriend and I came to GoldinBlack in search of some easy Korean food, and we found some! I ordered the Janchi Guksu (cold noodles with many vegetables), and he ordered the Bibimbap. GoldinBlack, unlike many other restaurants, is REALLY healthy - I may be wrong but it seems like all the ingredients are organic. I love how the food made me feel, yet I wish that there was a bit more protein in the dishes. The Janchi Guksu was really great, I was looking for something similar to Naengmyeon, and the Guksu had a similar vinegar-y soup that I was craving on a hot day. I wish the items came with some banchan/side dishes, since that's a big staple at most Korean restaurants, but that was the only real con.
Hidden gem! Delicious. We ordered the Tteokbokki and bibimbap for a late lunch and really enjoyed the freshness of the meal. Filling and flavorful. Definitely recommend this place for lunch.
Came by this restaurant after a show over in Seattle Center. It had been on my list of places to try for a while as I had heard good things about it online. The restaurant itself is quite small with only a few tables and it wasn't too busy when my party arrived so we were able to get a table for 4 immediately. The restaurant seemed to be a bit understaffed that day as there was just one person taking orders and serving the tables and it seemed that they were a bit behind on some pick-up/mobile orders as there were customers waiting. As was to be expected given this early warning sign, our food was a bit slow out of the kitchen. The person serving the tables was very apologetic about the delay and kind about it. The menu mostly consisted of items that you would expect to see at a Korean restaurant (Sundubu/Kimchi Jjigae, Bibimbap, etc) with a few unexpected finds like the Kimchi Bulgogi Tacos. I ended up ordering the GoldinBlack Jajang since it had a star next to it on the menu so I figured it had to be good :). The other members of my group ordered the Bulgogi Avocado Rolls, Beef Stir-Fry with Rice, and the Bulgogi Kimchi Stew so I was also able to try these dishes. I really enjoyed the Jajang. It was a generous portion of rice accompanied with a black sauce with my chosen meat (chicken) and various vegetables and a poached egg on top. The black bean sauce was very rich and flavorful but maybe a little bit on the salty side. The chicken and veggies were well done though I wish the egg was a bit runnier. The avocado rolls were interesting as it felt a bit like a sushi roll in composition (but replacing meat for the fish). The avocado and the creamy sauces on top melted in the mouth and went really together well. But there there seemed to be something a bit off with the pairing of the flavors inside of the roll and the outside avocado and sauces. The beef stir-fry was my least favorite of the dishes that we tried. For one, the portion felt small relative to the Jajang that I ordered. Also, the stir-fry lacked the bold flavor that the Jajang had. The stir fry didn't have a sauce and didn't have a strong taste holding it together other than a mild soy aroma and it felt a bit like the type of fried rice you could at Uwajimaya food court for much cheaper. The final dish, the kimchi stew, was good but not amazing. The soup was piping hot and it lived up to its name with a lot of kimchi in it. The kimchi tasted fresh and was decently spicy. I would have liked to have a bit more meat in the soup as it felt like there were only a few pieces. Good - Kind and attentive staff - Jajang was very flavorful and filling Not So Good - Pretty expensive for the amount of food received for some dishes - Beef stir-fry lacked flavor - No side dishes unlike other Korean restaurants Overall I was a bit disappointed given my high expectations but it definitely could've been a case of catching the restaurant on a bad day. Hope to give it another try soon!
I've always loved coming here to explore their menu and choosing a different entree each time. Over the past year and a half I've never been disappointed. Their dishes are always made with fresh ingredients and a generous portion of vegetables. Their menu is a nice balance of traditional and Korean fusion with my favorite examples of this being their sandwiches. Once in the GoldInBlack and the Volcano are my top favorites of this blend and are both topped with a generous portions of meat and veggies with cheese coating it all. The Gung-Jung TteokBokki is made with a warming garlic sauce that's perfect for a cold day or mild evening. Got the Beef Stir-Fry w/rice today along with the Bulgogi Avocado Rolls with chicken and I couldn't stop from eating the whole thing in one sitting. Now I'm full and lethargic but very happy.
I've been meaning to try GoldinBlack for awhile because I love Korean food and they are in such a convenient location. I stopped in recently and ordered their jayang (which comes with rice, not noodles, but you can substitute for an additional cost) and their rice punch. Both were delicious! They have 2 protein options for the jajang including chicken breast and bulgogi pork. I tried the chicken breast, which was great - it also comes with a ton of veggies, rolled egg omelet, and a panfried egg. It was pretty price though - my total was around $23-24 for the entree and drink. They do a 10% off all food special during lunch though, so I recommend trying to come then if anything!
Here's what to expect: A homey Korean Fusion restaurant that serves up the usual dishes like bibimbap and tteokbokki but also has more traditional items you won't see often like dubu kimchi and janchi guksu! Vegetables are always fresh (I'm picky about this), and the meat is of high quality. Also, pretty solid sandwiches - they're toasted and made with Macrina baguettes. GoldinBlack is great for if you wanna grab lunch and catch up with friends or try something new for dinner in a low key setting. Service/Atmosphere: I've ordered from here often and I've always had such kind service from the owner here. Sometimes they can get a bit busy and overwhelmed, but the food and presentation is perfect everytime. Before Covid times, dining in here can be a bit cramped. Definitely more of a neighborhood restaurant rather than a date night kind of place. Food: If you're looking for the traditional Korean experience with lots of banchan, this ain't it. Tonight I got the more traditional food - I ordered their Kimchi jeon (Kimchi pancake) and Kimchi and Spicy Pork Bulgogi Rice for pickup. The Kimchi jeon is one of the best I've had out of the Bay Area and Seattle! It's perfectly crunchy on the outside but soft and full of Kimchi & other assorted veggies in the inside. Thin and light. The spicy pork bulgogi (to be ordered with poach tofu and rice!) was filling and savory. The tofu is refreshing with the spiciness of the stir fried pork and kimchi. Other items I really like: - Janchi Guksu, served hot or cold. It's thin noodles in a light savory broth with veggies - I believe these are vegetarian. - Gungjung Tteokbokki - not spicy version of tteokbokki served with beef and veggies - it is a sweet soy sauce based dish with rice cake! - Mandu Guk! Dumplings in a light broth with green onions. Rice cakes are a must to add in. - any of the sandwiches! Really, you can't go wrong with 'em. Go nuts with the custom options too! Prices are a bit on the high side, but this is the city, and you will be full of good food. Drink some sikhye (Korean sweet rice drink) or sujeonghwa (sweet cinnamon punch) from the menu to digest!
What a rip-off. No wonder it's 6pm and there are no customers in the restaurant. Paid $18 for a "signature" stir fried noodle dish that Uptown China can do better. Paid extra $3.50 for fish cake that was 2 measly balls, each cut in half. They're a "Korean" restaurant but they don't even have any rice cake on the menu. What a rip off.
I'm so glad Lower Queen Anne has a Korean restaurant! Whenever I'm craving spicy food I think of Thai, Korean, and Indian. Having not been terribly impressed with the local (Lower QA) Thai and Indian options nearby, I hoped Cafe Goldinblack would fit my needs. The minute you walk in you get that punch in the face of Korean food smell - heavenly! It's a pretty small place between Peso's and Oskar's that has about 10 tables. I would say it's great for groups of 6 or less! I ordered their dol sot (hot stone) bibimbap, which had excellent spice and plenty of bulgogi to satisfy my meatatarian cravings. Nothing beats the rice that burns to the bottom of the pot after it soaks up all the bulgogi marinade. As a side I ordered the japchae, which was sauteed in gojuchang and has lots of spice with a hint of sweetness. The happy hour portion would probably be enough for most people as a lunch. Needless to say, between the bibimbap and the japchae I had plenty of leftovers for lunch the next day. Next time I go I plan on taking advantage of their awesome happy hour before a night out in QA. Everything on the menu is $4.95 and includes the likes of kim chee fried rice, japchae (noodles), jeon (pancackes), bulgogi, bulgogi tacos (2). They also have what appear to be Korean style banh mis with bulgogi (~$8). As if banh mis weren't delicious enough! read more
Yelp has led me to another gem! Though I will say that parking is a beezy here, especially since it's only street parking. When I walked into this restaurant, I was a little surprised that there was a Korean restaurant tucked away in here. This is a pretty hole in the wall place, and it's a pretty jenky looking restaurant to be honest. There weren't too many people here, so we could sit wherever we want. The only thing that was off-putting was that the tablecloths were dirty and stained since they were white. So don't come here if you're expecting a fancy, clean looking place. But I will say that the food is solid. The service was good as well. I ordered the Bibimbap with spicy pork and my friend ordered the galbi...which was interesting because it was boneless. But, it was good! I couldn't really tell if the ingredients were fresh or anything, but the flavors were definitely all there. They also have brown rice for no extra charge. The spicy pork in my bibimbap wasn't fatty, and it was all really meat-y. Same with the galbi. I will say it wasn't the cheapest korean food though (but it may be because we ordered alcohol with the food). However, I think they do have a lunch special so that may be better. I would definitely come back here again :) read more

Stopped in on a whim while visiting Seattle just as they had shut down from lunch but they graciously fired the kitchen back up for us. My wife had the ManduGuk, which she really enjoyed. The broth alone was outstanding. I've never met a human who could eat as much soup as the serving we got, so you might want to split it with someone. I had the spicy pork bulgogi volcano sandwich with the suggested addition of avocado. It wasn't as spicy as the menu might have you believe, but it was crazy delicious. The sandwich was also a large portion but I ate it solo and don't regret it. read more

The lady here is super sweet. A lot of food for super good prices. I had the dakbokkumtang. It was stir fried chicken breast with spicy sauce. And it came with kimchi and rice. But it was a lot. And it was good. If you come here looking for korean, it will satisfy. read more

I love that they have a Tteokbokki Dish that isn't spicy. I don't see this often. I always crave Tteokbokki but I don't always want spicy as it can be too heavy during lunch time at work. They are close by my work and they are very friendly and bubbly. I feel very welcomed when I go inside which makes the food taste even better! I highly recommend if you want some Home Feel Korean food with friendly service! :) read more
there is a Korean joint in Queen Anne! Although it's not 100% authentic Korean with Panchan, grillers on the table- it is family owned and the spices and ingredients are high enough quality to cure your kimchi/bulgogi cravings. The tofu stews come with a side of bulgogi or tofu! love the veggies stir fried with the beef. I also tried the ginger cinnamon korean punch which was refreshing on a hot humid night. Their bibimbop is pretty large when I saw them bringing it out to other customers and it's apparently their best seller. read more

Goldin black pork bulgogi Sammy is heaven!!!!!! Everything we've had there has been fresh and delicious. This place is a must. I'll keep coming back. read more
It must be that only the sandwiches are ok. I tried almost everything on their happy hour menu, trying to find some redeeming aspect about the food here, but could not find any. My friend and I wondered if the person at the kitchen even knows how to cook since we can hear microwave dinging and the sound of opening a ramen package. I truly thought that even Shin Ramen tasted better than the ramen here. We tried the spicy dukbokki, which was just drenched in chili sauce. We tried the Korean meatballs, which were burnt and the sauce that came with it was less than inspiring. We tried the kimchi pancake, but it was poorly fried and for 5 dollars you get four little pieces. We tried the spicy pork tacos, and again you can't taste anything other than the chili sauce. We ordered the sake, which didn't come until almost all our food came. We then got the vegetable ramen and the only thing I can say about that is at least they chopped some fresh vegetables to put in it. The bottom line is that this is probably a good place to come if you have a hangover. Otherwise, there are too many good places to eat around here to come here (I came in because Toulouse Petit had an hour wait). At 5 dollars per happy hour menu item, it is really not cheap given the portion sizes are tiny. I probably would not come here again. read more
we were staying at an airbnb last couple nights before we moved out of WA and i found this place on yelp. i was in the mood for korean so i asked my hubby to pick up from here as it was close by. i called the restaurant and i asked the lady if i should order bibimbop or the other Dupbap. she just said whichever i preferred. i got the bibimbop w/ spicy pork. it was around $13? the serving was just right, there were plenty of veggies and meat. if u r in the mood for bibimbop, this place will do. read more

i and my boyfriend come here on our second date. The food is not that awesome but still quite okay. I order the bibimbap, good except the fact has nothing special compared to those Korean restaurant. The deokbokki tastes good yet has too little sauce. The miso (comes with the bibimbap) is a complete disaster which tastes like instant miso soup, has no seaweed or tofu but full of potatoes and zuchinni for God knows why. The japchae is nothing but noodles with satee vegetable. Best thing maybe is the BBQ meetballs. Smoothie is so so, not too bad but more likely a juice. The only thing I like in here is the greentea mochi icecream and there service. Come at there happy hour for $5 dish read more
This place is totally a hole in the wall and a hidden gem. Having worked and lived in lower Queen Anne for over 8 years combined I only found out about this place this past Summer. Not sure how long they've been around actually. There is no other Korean restaurant in this area so it was a complete joy to me. The joint is run by a very nice and friendly couple. I loved that! As for the food it definitely help my Korean food fix when I'm in need. There are fusion mixed items on the menu like Korean tacos. This place is great for lunch, dinner, happy hour and late night eats. One time after a John Howie happy hour in Bellevue I found myself here for a second happy hour on my way home. read more
Queen Anne: Land of touristy sites, theaters, cute boutiques, Toulouse Petit, and good Korean food, apparently! GoldinBlack may not be as fancy as the other restaurants around the block, but it really hit the spot for dinner on a Thursday night. We were on our way to a concert and in search for something quick, little did we know that we'd come across such yummy stone bowl bibimbap and bulgogi beef tacos with avocados-- such an unexpected fusion find! The taco meat was so tender and the bottom layer of the rice was so deliciously crunchy (at no additional charge for the stone bowl, I might add). The bibimbap hot sauce comes on the food so be sure to specify how spicy you want your order to be. GoldinBlack doesn't win my vote for best/most number of side dishes, but their service is definitely one of the better ones out there. Give this place a try, they do takeout! read more

Was visiting Seattle and was so happy to find this place! Very flavorful and good sized portions for the price. Highly recommend the Bibimbap Escape with Chicken or Bulgogi Beef. Also the Japchaebap with Bulgogi Beef was delicious and a lot of food! For an appetizer I had the Korean Pancakes with Sweet Potato. Highly recommend this place!! Lighting isn't great in my pics but food was sooo good!! read more

I was surprised to see super high rating of this place. I've been here twice, but probably won't go back unless im dying for korean food, and every korean restaurant around 20mile radius is closed. The chicken was blend, made me wonder how long they marinate them, if any. The galbi bibimbap was also lacking in flavors. It does seem like sandwiches are more highly rated, so if you are already sitted at the restaurant, reading this review to decide on what to order, go for the sandwiches! The server was very friendly and offered us some extra dish to try, but they weren't that amazing either. I was so exited for their opening but sadly, goldinblack didn't meet expectations. Definitely a below average korean restaurant in my opinion. read more
Disclaimer: I want to give this place a 4, but based on of the dishes I had, on principle had to give it a 3. The good: -The service was great. Very attentive and friendly. -Bulgogi volcano sandwich. Fresh, bright flavors meet explosive marinated goodness, all hugged in a warm fluffy bun blanket. It's a hefty sandwich, so don't worry about leaving hungry after eating. The bummer: -Disclaimer: I still enjoyed the flavor of my Bulgogi ramen (Bulgogi and soup broth), but was SUPER disappointed when I recognized the flavor of my ramen noodles.... Instant ramen. I'm not saying that's what they were, but they tasted an awful lot like them. Don't get me wrong, I'm not above a bowl of good old fashion instant ramen, but not when I'm paying restaurant money for it and expecting restaurant quality ramen noodles. Like I said, I really do want to give this place four stars because I think it has potential to be great. However, go all the way and don't take shortcuts on quality. read more

This was above average. I've been craving another round of the Bulgogi/Kimchi tacos since the night I ate here. My family is addicted to good Korean food and as much as we love the all you can eat BBQ, the bibimbap and other dishes are even better. I took my kids to a laser show and we were looking for a place to grab a quick bite before we went in for our show. We saw this place as we were driving by and saw that it rated decently on Yelp so we gave it a try. The food was delicious and fresh. I loved the aforementioned tacos and both my daughter and I loved the bibimbap. the service was quick and friendly and the restaurant was clean and comfortable. The prices were average, neither low nor high. All in all, this was a very satisfying eating experience. read more

This place is SO GOOD and the staff is so kind. They make delicious yet healthy, fresh Korean dishes. I love going here for a sizzling bibimbap bowl and some soju. They also have great Korean tacos, soup dumplings, and sandwiches. Been a regular here for five years and highly recommend this little Queen Anne gem! read more

Excellent menu. It was a tough decision, but I went with the tofu stone stew and wasn't disappointed. Doesn't seem like this place draws a very big crowd ... maybe people just haven't discovered it yet. Very friendly service - will be back again before I leave town to try some of the other vegetarian options. read more

This place is a little gem. Leaving Seattle and wanted a quick lunch before we left. Instead of ending up at a Cajun restaurant nearby, we decided on this place walking by. Definately a good choice, the service was really friendly and our waitress offered some great recommendations. We got the Dupbap, the Bibimbap, and the spicy dukbokki as appetizer. We thought the appetizer was a little high for what we got, but it was good and spicy. The pots were really nice, worth the extra charge for beef. You can tell this is a family run business. read more
