I'm working through a list of all of the well-known diners in and around Los Angeles County and next up on my list was Goldenwest. It's a traditional LA diner located right off the freeway in a busier part of town. It is a traditional diner in that there is a large menu, fast service, and fair prices. There is a large free parking lot attached to the restaurant and inside is quite large. There is booth, counter, and table seating as well as a room that can be used for private parties. Our server was very polite and everything that we ordered came out extremely fast. For my first visit, I wanted to order one of my favorite dishes, which is Eggs Benedict. I chose the Burger Benedict and was so excited to eat it that I forgot to take a picture. The burger patty was seasoned well and cooked perfectly and overall, it was just really good. I also had a Cup of Chili prior to this and thought it was honestly great. One of the better chilies that I've had in a long time and I would get a bowl next time I am here. Was in the area and a buddy of mine wanted diner food so here we are. I've been wanting to try this spot out since Spire shut down and am glad I got to try this place. The fried chicken was recommended so my buddy got the chicken and waffles w scrambled eggs and I got the dinner fried chicken with baked potato. I've driven by this place a few times and had it in my head to stop in but never did. That was a misstep on my part. It's a great little place to go eat. The menu is has tons of options (I've never seen rib-eye benedict on a menu before!), and the service is top notch! Asked my waiter for something and then someone else brings it in less than a minute. At one point two people were bringing me things at the same time. And they are super nice! I ordered the Tuesday Special Ribeye Steak with baked potato and garlic bread. It also comes with a thick tomato based Beef and Barley soup and a fresh green salad with croutons and my choice of blue cheese dressing. Recently came in to visit with my mother and husband and I must say we were all satisfied. The customer service here is top notch. You know it's great service when you hear the staff welcome regulars by their names. 5/5 for customer service, definitely attentive, & polite. Came in for a birthday lunch with the family. We used to come here when it was Spires, but this was my first time with it being Goldenwest Diner. Still has the same feel, set up is exactly the same. Brought back lots of memories with family that has since passed. The staff were friendly and food was tasty. Can't beat breakfast served all day kind of place. I just moved back to California recently. One of my favorite things was to go to Ruby's Diner for breakfast with my sister on Sunday. We always shared their pecan waffle. We were so disappointed when they closed down the Long Beach location. Imagine my delight to find that Goldenwest makes a pecan waffle very similar to Ruby's! We had an omelette as well. First of all, I LOVE THIS PLACE! I want to share this gem with you all. It has that old timey diner feel and the service has always been amazing and it was again today. The place is not fancy but it feels like home. A very relaxed vibe and that customer service that feels like family. FOOD: We both got the Ribeye Benedict. The Hollandaise today was a little thicker than before. Usually it comes out nice and creamy. The steak is well seasoned, slightly salty, and the eggs are poached nicely. I asked for the hash browns to be well done because I like them crispy and they delivered. We didnt get the pancakes today but they are also very well done! Overall I would give this place a 5/5. I went here for some brunch because it was close to the OC Food Bank where my co-workers and I had a volunteer event. It's right on the corner where there's a freeway entrance so it's kind of a pain to get to from the front. Tip: there is an alleyway around the corner that get you there without sitting through traffic at the light. Lots of parking FYI. The diner was really very neat and kept very clean. It looked like there were a lot of long time patrons having breakfast. The service folks are super friendly and were often walking around with ample refills for your coffees. Now on to the food. What can I say?! My fave: the country fried steak and eggs were made perfectly to order and their gravy was delicious! No mistakes on my order although the steak was on the rather thin side, but it was crisply fried and the gravy was significantly more than a dollop. Really tasty! I would definitely go back. Ive been to Goldenwest Diner many times over the years but I felt like my experience tonight warranted a review. The service is always great with all the waitresses that work here so you can't go wrong but this review is specifically for Bella. As soon as I walked in with my wife and 2 kids we were greeted and seated immediately by Bella and she provided a high chair without me saying anything for my 1 year old son - this was the start of the service provided by her. It was the little things; when ordering drinks she brought my daughters drink in a children's cup with a lid so she wouldn't spill it (hopefully), anytime we needed drinks she noticed and offered for refills, we got some fruit for my 1 year old son and she brought it out early before our food because she noticed my son was getting antsy, she offered proper condiments like ketchup for the French fries instead of waiting for me to ask for it, she noticed my wife made my daughters pancakes with chocolate chip eyes and an orange peel mouth and she took the pancake back and decked it out with whip cream hair. The menu here is a solid American Diner menu with breakfast all day and some tasty dessert options (try the cinnamon rolls to go!) so you can't go wrong at Goldenwest Diner. But my family and I go to dinner every Thursday at different restaurants and I'm telling you - these little things are not common. We initially wanted to hit Harry's but the parking lot there is quite tight so we wandered across the street instead! From the warm, welcoming, and attentive staff you would expect at your local diner, to the massive portions of all plates from savory to sweet, this OC diner does not disappoint! The Prime Rib Benedict and Vegetable Benedict work well with each other if you're in the mood to go family style and share with your dining partner or group.
