I have been sick and struggling to eat. I decided to order some egg drop soup from Golden Star and it has literally saved my aching throat. It's so soothing and flavorful. While I love their chow mein and snow pea chicken, I just cannot express how much I love this place and how good all their food is (especially their soup). Thank you! read more

This place is ok. I'm sad that the previous place closed I think it was jay garden or something like that. But the food here is good. We have had it twice since moving to redding from Chico. Both times were good and not too bad of price. We got egg rolls , general chicken , chow mein, and fried rice and a order of wonton soup and it was 40.00 or less not bad read more

When we first went there! This last Sunday! It was I couldn't eat the food we ordered a combination plates to go. I couldn't eat anything except the cream cheese Won Ton! The rest Had so much soy sauce on it. Chicken chow main! Rice was dry and dark brown. The sweet and sour chicken had like thin bones in them. It was strange! We didn't eat the dinners! So we our rice and ate that! It was very hot that night! So we didn't go back it is quite a drive to it! We won't be going back! read more

Dine in is not available here as of July 2022. Their food is excellent. But just understand that their restaurant is not open for you and your family to sit down and eat at and have a waitress come serve you like a normal Chinese restaurant. read more

This place is cozy. And what i mean by that is that the people in Golden Star are very kind, service is amazing. And the FOOD, outstanding. U can taste the fire from the wok. Amazing job. read more

Seriously the best take out Chinese we've ever had, anywhere! The General Tso was crispy, spicy, and very lightly breaded (not the typical shred of chicken in ¼"if breading stuff most places give you). House Fried Rice was very good too, as were kung Pao chicken and schezuan chicken. And huge portions too as other reviews mentioned. Or family of 4 spilt this with the PuPu Platter and easily got two meals it of it. Reasonable prices too! Very highly recommended if you're in Redding! read more

Golden Star is out go-to for good old takeout Chinese. Their portions are generous and the flavors are all really good. We like orange chicken, general chicken, fried rice, lo mein, and their egg rolls. The only time our order wasn't ready on time was Christmas. But it was Christmas and one of the only places open haha. Staff is always pleasant. It's one of our favs! read more

Really tasty food and quick service. My first time but will be back for sure. Moo Shu Pork and Mongolian Beef with white rice. Good prices too! read more

No masks required, so unsafe. Food was good, but it took them 2 hours to prepare it. They're doing takeout only, and when you order online for pickup you are told it will be ready in 15-20 minutes. When you show up in about 20 minutes the nice cashier tells you it will be a few more minutes. Since you don't want to wait inside with a whole bunch of others who are waiting, half of them w/o masks, you wait outside in the rain... and wait... and wait...and wait. Seriously, there's no point in not having inside dining if you fill your restaurant with unmasked folks waiting for their food for two hours. Seems like they were having a bad day, but they really should require masks for service. read more

Best Chinese food spot in town hands down! We love the General's Chicken and pork fried rice. Serving sizes are huge and give you enough to feed a crowd or for leftovers, plus the food always arrives hot even when we order for delivery. We have told all our friends about this place since we discovered it and everyone seems to agree that they are LEGIT. You won't be disappointed! read more

literally such a great place. we go here for take out since they aren't currently open for dine in and they get your food out so fast!! very yummy and so affordable! read more

I'm giving this 5 stars because it was over the top good. Huge to go portions... just traveling through but will be back on our way home! yummmm read more

Well, let's see, usually there's an attitude involved one way or another. It's cheap bulk food at a good price is why I think this place shines because it's always busy. The flavor of the food is not very good. read more

This use to be the Jade Garden. We thought that we would give Golden Star a try. To our surprise the restaurant has been remodeled. The dining room was very clean and so were the new bathrooms. Service was very good and the waitresses were very attentive. The food was very fresh and hot, cooked to order. NO MSG! We tried a number of different dishes and all were very good. I knew that I would be bringing my family to this place the next time. When we came with the family the food and service was just as good. This time we were able to try a lot of their dishes since we had 10 people at our table. Their appetizers were a big hit, the crab puffs, chicken wings, and pot stickers were awesome. Some of the dishes we ordered were, the chicken chow mein, beef chow fun, lemon chicken, general chicken, chicken with vegetables, sweet and sour chicken, broccoli beef. All were very good. The walnut prawns were a big hit. You gotta try them! The war wonton was a big hit also. Especially on a cold winter day. We have been back many times now and found the dishes and service to be very consistent. They are also keeping the place very clean, even the bathrooms. I hope they keep this up and succeed here in Redding. Give them a try. I think you will like it. Bon appetite! read more

We've enjoyed several take-out orders from Golden Star -- the on-line ordering system is easy and convenient. The food is ready at the appointed time and is a great value. We usually order two dishes for the two of us and it's good for two meals. We especially love the General Tso's chicken and the Hunan beef. We are slowly working our way through the whole menu, so I'm sure there will be more favorites. Good food, great prices and prompt service - good job! read more

Yum. This place is so good! It's become our new favorite Chinese place. I didn't really like hot and sour soup but everything else is really good. The garlic broccoli and the Mongolian beef are two of our favorites. My son got the Sweet and Sour Chicken which was also amazing. It's some of the best Chinese food I've had outside San Francisco. The chef is also a pastry chef and sometimes they be bring us small pastry samples which are incredible and is a very nice touch. When we are craving Chinese, this place is at the top of our list in the area read more

Super good! We ordered four combo meals to go. The combo meals include soup, egg roll, fried rice, chow main, and entree for ten bucks. I don't know what was different in the Special family style meal for fourteen each. They included the same items except only rice or chow main for a dollar more. So we just ordered combos to save four bucks each. They answered right away, easy to place order. Had to wait 30 minutes to pick up but that's because they apparently only cook to order. The Mongolian was great, really good to flavor. Cashew chicken, good, definitely very fresh veggies. General Tso was amazing. Best I ever had and not spicy. The fried rice had lots of chunks of meat. It could have been a little moister though, had to add soy sauce. Chow mein was average. Volume was good. Enough to be full if you are pretty big eater. Definitely great for the price. read more

Just moved from the Bay Area . I love Yelp because they help you find what your looking for especially when you're new to the area. I called an the guy who answer the phone was very nice and patient and help me with my menu had a quick couple questions. I had ordered the combination plates I ordered cashew chickens Mongolian beef it was awesome so much food . An it was ready for us just I was told. The price was affordable an well worth the money . I wad so Hungary I didn't take a picture to post . But I highly recommend this restaurant. I'm sure I will order again soon read more

Excellent food & plenty of it. Ordered two combo meals for pick-up, the food was ready when I got there, hot & tasty! The hot & sour soup is very good also. Looking forward to going back again for more! If you like Chinese you will like this place! read more

Golden Star - Kung Po Chicken Combo with Chicken Chow Mein and pork fried rice. With a Egg Roll. - Chinese Near Me - Redding, California

I love this restaurant! The food is fabulous! The new owners have opened up the room and made it much more inviting. Our server was excellent, attentive and polite. We both had egg fu yung, I had chicken, my husband had shrimp, both with steamed rice. We also had the egg roll appetizers. The food was extremely tasty, and it's presentation made your mouth water. We found out that the owners have relocated from Wisconsin, which is where we are from. read more

Do NOT waste your money. The BBQ Pork was terrible, in a sweet bbq sauce, not traditional at all and no hot mustard. The Kung Pao Beef and Szechuan Prawns were identical. Same base and exactly the same vegetables, the only difference was the protein. Won ton soups was like water. Very disappointing after a long day of traveling. read more

Best Chinese food I've ever had! Not only that but they were fast & very friendly! Definitely recommend:) 5 stars. Nice restaurant too.

My husband and I decided to try this restaurant and we were not disappointed. My husband tried the Sesame Chicken and it was crunchy and moist. I had the Cashew Chicken, which was delicious. We both preferred the Chow Mein over the Fried Rice. read more

Wow. Really fresh and tasty. Crazy portion sizes at a cheap price. You can tell by the ununiformed cuts of produce, taste and crunch that they are prepping and using fresh everything. Nothing out of a can or frozen. Most Chinese places in this area serve overcooked, over salted mush. You generally have to head to Sacramento or the Bay Area to get quality Chinese food. read more

We came from out of town, ordered alot of food over $60 worth. We knew we weren't going to eat it all but wanted options and splurged since we were on a trip . Now just a small thing about me is I have IBS with low immunity so bacteria that might not effect a healthy person will in me if the food isn't handled properly . With that being said I only had one small plate before 6 hours later , im being rushed to the emergency room at mercy . Which I was told I had Staphylococcus aureus (Staph) bacteria ( food poisoning ) after iv fluids and a large bill its safe to say i won't be going back . I did have to see my regular doctor back in my home town and they are running some more tests to see if Salmonella was a present as well . I hate to leave this type of review bc the food was decent and if you have no preexisting medical problems you most likely won't get sick, but if you are like me and have IBS or Crohns do not come here or ask for things to freshly and throughly cooked no matter how long it takes. The reason I'm confident enough to say this was the cause is the test of my stool result and the fact this is the only thing I ate in the window of time for the bacteria to present symptoms . 12 hours . read more

Golden Star - This is a bowl of some of the best Sizzling Rice soup I have had - Chinese Near Me - Redding, California

Finally good Chinese Food in Redding. We were very surprised, good flavor, we had shrimp with lobster sauce, nice fresh vegetables, plenty of shrimp. Pot stickers were fresh, home made. We have eaten many chow fun dishes, just tried one in Anderson a couple weeks ago, no flavor, noodles cooked to much, mushy, we ordered beef chow fun last night, it was really good, beef was tender, great portions, tasty! We are excited to visit this restaurant in the future, we will try many more dishes. Good service, they poured a good glass of wine, restaurant was totally redone, nice Bar, decor was comfortable, new remodeled restaurant, nice bathrooms. We were impressed! read more

The food is delicious. We had Potstickers (not Frozen) so good, General Tso's Chicken, Mongolian Beef the chicken side was chow mein, the beef was fried rice. All was so good plus excellent wines. The only downside was the music was really loud for awhile (never occurred to me to ask them to turn it down) at the end of our meal someone must have asked as it went to a manageable sound. Great service. read more

This restaurant is only two weeks old, so I hope they get better. The food is standard and the portions are fair...and that's why the two-star rating - otherwise it would be lower! Here's why: 1. The service was S...L...O...W! They only had one waitress covering the dining room so she was not prepared to handle the lunch business during Sunday on the Memorial Day weekend! 2. When the waitress finally got around to serving us, she asked if we'd like something to drink. I asked if they charged for tea...she said 'no'...so we ordered hot tea. When we got the check... guess what...there was a charge for the hot tea! When I asked about the charge, the waitress said she only charged for one person and not four - that's normal. I reminded her of our earlier conversation, but she changed nothing! 3. The first dish - soup - was lukewarm. But the tea was hot! In fact. all of the dishes we ordered arrived warm...not hot...hence the rating. I might give them another try to see if this was s fluke...so watch him for my next review on this place. read more

I just moved to town, and I've already deemed this my go-to Chinese spot. I've been here 3 times in 2 months, because I can't get enough of the chow mein and orange chicken. Everything I've tried is delicious, hot, and fresh. Portions are big and very affordable. Though I haven't yet dined in, call in and door dash orders have been quick and correct. My only complaint: It can be difficult to get through on the phone. I usually have to call a several times. read more

I ordered crab Rangoon, hot and sour soup, and shumai. The shumai looked and tasted like they were from a frozen store bought company. The hot and sour soup was so thick it was inedible, and also tasted like nothing. The crab Rangoon was the only edible thing but was cold when I literally took it straight back to the hotel I was staying at 1 minute drive down the street. I know Chinese takeout isn't supposed to be 5 stars but it should at least be edible if you're paying decent money for it. read more
