No masks required, so unsafe. Food was good, but it took them 2 hours to prepare it. They're doing takeout only, and when you order online for pickup you are told it will be ready in 15-20 minutes. When you show up in about 20 minutes the nice cashier tells you it will be a few more minutes. Since you don't want to wait inside with a whole bunch of others who are waiting, half of them w/o masks, you wait outside in the rain... and wait... and wait...and wait. Seriously, there's no point in not having inside dining if you fill your restaurant with unmasked folks waiting for their food for two hours. This use to be the Jade Garden. We thought that we would give Golden Star a try. To our surprise the restaurant has been remodeled. The dining room was very clean and so were the new bathrooms. Service was very good and the waitresses were very attentive. The food was very fresh and hot, cooked to order. NO MSG! We tried a number of different dishes and all were very good. I knew that I would be bringing my family to this place the next time. When we came with the family the food and service was just as good. This time we were able to try a lot of their dishes since we had 10 people at our table. Their appetizers were a big hit, the crab puffs, chicken wings, and pot stickers were awesome. Some of the dishes we ordered were, the chicken chow mein, beef chow fun, lemon chicken, general chicken, chicken with vegetables, sweet and sour chicken, broccoli beef. All were very good. The walnut prawns were a big hit. You gotta try them! The war wonton was a big hit also. Especially on a cold winter day. We have been back many times now and found the dishes and service to be very consistent. They are also keeping the place very clean, even the bathrooms. Yum. This place is so good! It's become our new favorite Chinese place. I didn't really like hot and sour soup but everything else is really good. The garlic broccoli and the Mongolian beef are two of our favorites. My son got the Sweet and Sour Chicken which was also amazing. It's some of the best Chinese food I've had outside San Francisco. The chef is also a pastry chef and sometimes they be bring us small pastry samples which are incredible and is a very nice touch. We've enjoyed several take-out orders from Golden Star -- the on-line ordering system is easy and convenient. The food is ready at the appointed time and is a great value. We usually order two dishes for the two of us and it's good for two meals. We especially love the General Tso's chicken and the Hunan beef. Super good! We ordered four combo meals to go. The combo meals include soup, egg roll, fried rice, chow main, and entree for ten bucks. I don't know what was different in the Special family style meal for fourteen each. They included the same items except only rice or chow main for a dollar more. So we just ordered combos to save four bucks each. They answered right away, easy to place order. Had to wait 30 minutes to pick up but that's because they apparently only cook to order. The Mongolian was great, really good to flavor. Cashew chicken, good, definitely very fresh veggies. General Tso was amazing. Best I ever had and not spicy. The fried rice had lots of chunks of meat. It could have been a little moister though, had to add soy sauce. Chow mein was average. Volume was good. Enough to be full if you are pretty big eater. Definitely great for the price. read more

Just moved from the Bay Area . I love Yelp because they help you find what your looking for especially when you're new to the area. I called an the guy who answer the phone was very nice and patient and help me with my menu had a quick couple questions. The hot and sour soup was so thick it was inedible, and also tasted like nothing. We came from out of town, ordered alot of food over $60 worth. We knew we weren't going to eat it all but wanted options and splurged since we were on a trip . Now just a small thing about me is I have IBS with low immunity so bacteria that might not effect a healthy person will in me if the food isn't handled properly . With that being said I only had one small plate before 6 hours later , im being rushed to the emergency room at mercy . Which I was told I had Staphylococcus aureus (Staph) bacteria ( food poisoning ) after iv fluids and a large bill its safe to say i won't be going back . I did have to see my regular doctor back in my home town and they are running some more tests to see if Salmonella was a present as well . I hate to leave this type of review bc the food was decent and if you have no preexisting medical problems you most likely won't get sick, but if you are like me and have IBS or Crohns do not come here or ask for things to freshly and throughly cooked no matter how long it takes. Finally good Chinese Food in Redding. We were very surprised, good flavor, we had shrimp with lobster sauce, nice fresh vegetables, plenty of shrimp. Pot stickers were fresh, home made. We have eaten many chow fun dishes, just tried one in Anderson a couple weeks ago, no flavor, noodles cooked to much, mushy, we ordered beef chow fun last night, it was really good, beef was tender, great portions, tasty! We are excited to visit this restaurant in the future, we will try many more dishes.
