Honestly, the food was very okay when we ate. We had ordered chow mein, fried rice, and general chicken for dinner. We thought nothing of it until the insatiable thirst we endured for the next three days. The rest of our food we had consumed the day of and after was home cooked so the only source of excess sodium was from here. We will never be back. If MSG is used, they need to severely cut back. read more

Great new place! Their prawn and scallops were really great. The crab and cream cheese wonton appetizer was excellent. Really fast and friendly. We will definitely be back! Their sign says soft opening and I think they only have beer and wine right now. Not sure if they plan to have more but that building has a lovely bar. It looked remodeled and really great inside. read more

Not what we expected. Wor wonton soup had two small shrimp and large pieces of pork. Not much taste. Egg rolls were not flaky but hard like they had been frozen. None of what you'd think an almond chicken entree should taste like. Vegetable beef was lacking in taste with big pieces of unseasoned beef. We muddled through the soup and, with enough hot mustard and ketchup managed to eat the egg rolls. As for the two entrees, they were discarded. Forty bucks. We won't go back. read more

Gave GS a try for take-out and wow - so good. Service and food quality was great! My only concern was that their portion sizes are huge, too much really. read more

I called to order takeout or delivery, and the message was that they were 'temporarily closed'. Bummer!!

Really tasty cuisine Loved everything we ordered. I spent most of my early adult life in the he Bay Area and this is the first restaurant to meet the standards of a meal in San Francisco read more

Really good, VERY fast and super polite. Had the sesame combo plate and every thing was delicious. The sauces were thick and flavorful, the chicken was tender, the chow mein was great. It's usually hit and miss at some places cause it's so greasy. This place does it right. And weird side note.... Someone in our party said they have some of the best iced tea they've ever had. Tasted really fresh. Can't wait to go back and try other stuff. read more

Huge portions and amazing taste for a great price and amazing service. I love the combination plates.

I'm happy to find a decent Chinese Restaurant, in Redding. Very nice Staff Kung Pao Chicken was great and Chow Mein had good flavor, will be back soon! read more

I normally have to drive out of Redding to eat Chinese food that tastes as good as it looks, and that digests without any aftermath issues (if you know what I mean)! Golden Star deserves the highest rating in my book. I'm pressing my golden buzzer for this place because they deserve to be showcased with the best Chinese food restaurants in Redding! My sister and I have very quickly made this "our place." Well priced, tasty food, we typically get the combo plates and have left overs, great for work tomorrow! The service is amazing, the staff is friendly and attentive. Would reccomend to anyone and everyone who is looking for great food. read more

Really yummy potstickers and Lo mein! Big portions, fast service, and great staff. Glad I stopped on my way through!

I'm new to the Redding area and had a taste for some Chinese food, so of course I turned to Yelp to check out some places. I tried it because of the reviews, and they're SPOT ON! You know how at some places the food all kind of somehow tastes the same? Not here! Very flavorful soups and entrees - so good in fact that the leftovers were eaten as a midnight snack and we ordered take out again last night! read more

I usually only get on yelp to complain, but I have to say that golden star definitely gets 5stars from us. We have ordered twice from them, and each time the food was ready within 20 minutes, was hot and delicious. The portions were so big we can have again tomorrow read more

Great flavor and friendly staff... I've been twice and both time very pleased. Serving are very generous.

The food is good. The second time we went, the chow menu tasted like strong onions! Not sure if it was just that batch, but wowzers. It was gross. The first time we went, it did not taste like that. The people are very friendly. read more

We got the family style dinner B for two people to go because of Covid with the vegetables with prawns and general chicken. Everything was very good with the exception of the won ton soup that lacked flavor and the wontons themselves didn't have a good filling. Other than that, would definitely order again. read more

Ordered two lunch specials. Sesame chicken with chow mein and sweet and sour chicken with fried rice, food came with soup and an egg roll. Soup was hot and good, not a huge soup eater though. Both entrees would good. The chicken was not overly breaded which was nice. Everything tasted freshly made and was served promptly. The only suggestion I would make is that the waitress, nice and pleasant, did not check to see if we needed anything after the food was served... Maybe a cultural thing or maybe new to the server business. Overall, a good experience. Will return. Maybe try take out. read more

I really really enjoyed the food and service. We came at 9pm and the service was great. Our food came out in like 15 mins. They did forget one of our dish but as soon as we reminded them it came out in like 5 mins. read more

Went here for the first time on a Tuesday night for dinner. We were immediately greeted by our waiter who gave us the option of a table or a booth. We picked a booth. The restaurant was very clean and the menu selection was great! For $21 we got a soda, crab cheese wonton appetizer, and the combination plate which included an egg drop soup, a generous serving half chow mein, half pork fried rice, a huge amount of general tso's chicken, veggies, and another cream cheese wonton. It's perfect for two people to share. Our waiter was so polite and attentive (I wish I would've gotten his name) along with all the other employees that were there. As soon as our waters or soda ran low the waiter was over to fill it up. Great experience! Will definitely be back :) read more

I didn't even get to eat here. I called 6 times and the number was disconnected. When I show up, I waited for 20 min in the front before someone finally spoke to me despite people running food in and out. They then told me 2 entrees would be 45 min. It was a complete waste of my time distinct here. Very disappointing with this service for such a highly rated place. read more

I've given this place a 2 star rating due to the fact that it's very much cleaner than the previous establishment. Went for lunch, was seated quickly and given menus. Then we waited, and waited and waited. Finally able to get server's (?) attention and she brought water then took menus away without taking our order. Finally another person comes by and mumbles something about our order and I tell her we have not ordered and the other person had taken our menus away. She brings back menus and we get order placed. Whew, finally. Then another long, long wait while I hear others in the restaurant mentioning they want to leave because they too are being ignored. Hubby will not budge now, he's a stubborn Old Goat. When our food comes out he is served approximately 5-7 minutes before my combo-plate is brought out sans the soup that should have been delivered before the entree. I had to ask for the soup which was then brought over to our table. I can say that due to the time it took to walk in, finally place order and wait time again for food I am extremely happy I was not on a 1 hour lunch break from work. Both Old Goat and I will not be back. Sorry, maybe it was just an off day but unacceptable for us since they have been in operation for 3 months. read more

So glad we tried something new tonight. We were very pleased with the food, the cleanliness and the service at Golden Star. We had Beef Chowmein, Shrimp Fried rice, and sizzling chicken and vegetable platter. We started with egg drop soup and wonton soup along with spring rolls (egg rolls). Everything was top notch. My husband isn't a huge fan of Chinese food but he loved it and said "we'll definitely be back"! Highly recommend read more

I'm not going to say anything bad about any of the other Chinese restaurants in town open or closed. This is the best Chinese food in Redding. The food is obviously fresh and made to order. I have been in about eight times since they opened I love the new decor and the staff is very nice and efficient. Don't wait for the grand opening you need to treat yourself now. read more

The service was fast and efficient! And the food was some of the best we've had in Redding. Fresh, hot and delicious! The crab and cream cheese wontons and the pot stickers were excellent. read more

Love this place! We have been here a few times. I always order the lemon chicken. Only thing that wasn't great is the soup. A little bland. But otherwise everything was great. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. Probably the best egg rolls I've ever had. The updated look is nice too. We've been looking for a good chinese food place ever since our favorite one close . I am pretty sure we found our spot. Everything was very fresh and good. The fried foods were done beautifully. Nothing tasted like it was freezer food. All the vegetables were fresh and well cooked. The soup was tasty, especially the hot and sour. The server was friendly and very attentive. read more

Extreeeemely great restaurant. The prices are very affordable (around $10 for a combo of like 5 things), the portions are generous (thank you!), and the food is DELICIOUS. The staff is wonderful. They have every dish you would want in Chinese cuisine. read more

Fast and friendly service! Food was hot and delicious! Pot stickers were seriously amazing! Will be back again soon!

Unfortunately, take out dinner was horrible. Upon phoning in my order, I said please no lettuce garnish for the dumplings and beef sticks. I said this 3 times and the girl repeated my request back. I stated that I am allergic. When we opened our food at home, the dumplings sat upon a bed of shredded lettuce. Also, the sauce container had a cracked lid and spilled all over all the food containers. The crack was obvious after the lid was placed. Now for the food, everything was bland and the beef sticks had a funny taste. My husband's sweet and sour pork had no flavor but the pork was tender. We both ended our meal with upset stomachs. I guess you get what you pay for. Staying with the Sailing Boat and Peter Chu's Skyroom. These may be more expensive but the food is always great! At least this was for a great cause, Haven Humane Society. (I did call the Golden Star and I was told "I am sorry, I told the kitchen") read more

I arrived a little after 12 on a Friday, the place was about half full. I told the girl I was waiting for my wife, daughter and granddaughter and she seated me in a booth. About 5 minutes later they arrived and sat in the booth. After about 10 minutes spent trying to get the attention of a waitress, I asked my daughter to get us some menus. It took another 10 minutes to get someone to take our order. My order arrived in about 10 minutes. I didn't start, waiting for the other meals to arrive. While waiting, we noticed that the meals were arriving at other tables (some who had arrived before us and some after) very randomly. Some people were finishing while others were just receiving their order. After about 20 minutes, my daughter went to find out what had happened to the other orders. Her order arrived a few minutes later. My wife's order arrived about 5 minutes after that and, judging by the temperature, had been cooked about the same time as mine. The waitress then brought our soup! The food was good, it would have been better hot. The service was very poor and disorganized. If you only have an hour for lunch, go elsewhere. read more
