I recently went to another eye shop and felt pressured to order expensive frames and get medical treatments I wasn't sure about. My family has been coming here for years so I wanted to try it out. This place really took care of me. They also were the first ones to tell me about the medically necessary contacts that VSP offers because my prescription is so bad (-10). I want to dedicate my 499th review to Golden Houston Optometry I found at #99RanchMarket in Spring Branch; it is a true lifesaver for my eyesight. After hundreds of frame searching and dozens of optometrist hunting, I finally found one that suit my needs - opens on weekends and conveniently located in my favorite Asian market - 99 Ranch Market. What else can I ask for? I get my spectacles every 2 years but I need my eyes checked every year. My last pair of glasses gave me more headaches than without wearing one. I ended up going back to a pair I had 8 years ago. I was very happy to find a pair of frame that is fashionable and lightweight with titanium. After all, I didn't have to spend too much after my insurance deductible. Golden Houston Optometry's bi-lingual staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Everyone speaks English and one other foreign language, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese or Spanish. Dr. Tran knows how to take care of his patients. Diana called me to remind me of my appointment and follow up with my new glasses. Diane, her boss, takes care ordering. I didn't get a chance to converse with Frank. I observed the store being very orderly with lots of customers. At one point, it was a full house. I signed up with a postcard reminder. That would give me discounts to offset the price when my insurance covers lenses only next year. Oh, one thing you don't know about Davis Insurance, their in-house assembly team damaged the frame I picked out. That created a delay. The optometrist have to use their shipment insurance to cover the loss. Luckily, my order was completed faster than promised because the frame vendor had enough to cover. read more

I decided to go to Golden Vision located inside the 99 Market for my eyesight checkup. This is my first time with their service and I glad that I did. Ken Ly was a nice and friendly optician, who gave me a warm welcome when I walked in. He asked what I needed and showed me around the stored. Beside Ken Ly, Dr. Tran was a person who did my eye exam. Dr. Tran is professional and providing a great conversation which make the eye exam felt quicker. Would love to come back in the future to placed an order for glasses for a new frame. P.s: Beside the great service they provided, they also follow the Covid-19 guidance for optometric practices, which is trying social distances, and cleaned out the frame after someone touched it or wear it. Honest service. This is the first time I came in here for a complete eye exam and Dr. Tran and Ken, the receptionist were warm and welcome. They were very genuine and transparent with all their procedures. I chose them because of their conveniently location by 99 Ranch Market and they had convenient hours. I have been without contact lenses for 2 weeks now... one of my lenses ripped and were my last pair. So naturally, I call my eye doctor (I have come here for 4 years) thinking they will be happy to give me a trial pair and I could reorder some more. I called and was told that someone would have to get back to me to find out if they had any in stock... I said no problem and waited all day. My husband went by on his way home to hopefully pick up and reorder contacts. At which time they told him they were out of trials. Okay.... so I reordered online to have new contacts overnighted via discount lenses.com. Once they contacted golden optics to confirm my prescription, golden optics called me immediately and said they had a trial pair for me if I wanted to come back and order my contacts from them instead (which is what I wanted to do in he first place!!!) this was on Tuesday night at 7 pm... they are closed Wednesday's... so I return today (Thursday) to pick up these trials they called and said they had for me.... and they tell me they're out of trials!!!??? What, is, happening?? Is this a joke? This is how repeat customers are treated here? Oh, and still no contacts lol. Looking back, it occurs to me that they are always aggressively pushing the most expensive glasses the most expensive contact lenses. Their number one concern is how much money you spend. Had my last contact lens not torn I would never have had this terrible experience. It just goes to show you, always order a years worth if you can. Also, this place is in a terrible location.... The parking lot is always extremely crowded and rarely is there any parking. The front desk staff are grouchy and unpleasant. I have no idea why I continued to go to this place. Just got my frames and lens and I love them. Diana and her staff had spent a lot of time showing me an assortment of frames and why they would/would not be good for me, totally understanding the issues of an Asian facial profile! Diana totally knew every issue I've had with glasses before, especially since I had such a high prescription, which would lead to very thick lens. Diana also was very helpful in navigating my insurance and its nuances. I got a lovely Coach frame with longer nose pads that fit Asian faces better. They have a great selection of all sorts of frames, but definitely is the place if you have a small nasal bridge that just doesn't usually work with most plastic frames. The staff members have all been very friendly, approachable, and helpful. I had some issues with my contacts and Dr. Tran is patiently helping me work through it to find the right type for me. It's actually a 2 1/2 but three digit extra cost ($100.00) knocks it down to 2. Dr. Tran and Frank is great, but realized their Cartier Design frame was marked up $100 more than Cartier Store or Website! This is freaking crazy, I might expect it in Vegas but not here in htown. Maybe I should have become a optometrist if markup is this high. Nah, me is no doctor. My friends also found Tom Ford frame marked $100 more than Tom Ford actual website. Be careful on what you choose, variety is there but it should not come at a price this steep. $100, my gosh, I am idiotic. For what it is, that's my experience, price does matter as well. The optometrist is very nice and the business is very courteous in terms of follow up calls and reminders, but one thing will keep me from ever going back. During the trial weeks for contacts, they gave me just enough to last through the week. When I went for the follow up, everything was fine and I asked about the price for the contacts. They were more expensive than what I can buy them for and they do not price match. Here's the thing. They gave me just enough trial lenses to last the week and after they found out we were going to order the contacts through a cheaper source, they retracted their offer to give me trials to last until my order of contacts came in. So simply put, I'm without contacts for a whole week because they won't give you samples unless you order through them. An optometrist is a doctor. You put patient health before making money, period. So because of this, I will not be returning to them next year when my eye prescriptions expire. read more

I believe the Doctors here are one of the best regarding service and professionalism. Yes, the office is in a grocery store and their medical equipment is not the greatest and the latest. But when it comes to a patient and Doctor relationship, they really do care about the health and prescription that is right for your eyes. The office staff is also excellent. As for the retail shop yes they carry a significant amount of killer designer glasses and sun glasses. But like a previous yelper stated they are way over retail. They had a special on an exam and basic prescription lenses so I decided to try them. So glad I did. The optometrist was available within a few minutes and he have me a very thorough test and explained everything carefully answering all my questions. Got my new prescription and asked to look at lens options and frames. Very skillful assistant explained the options and I chose lenses and frames. I said I needed them as quickly as possible and they said just give us about an hour and they will be ready. Within 50 minutes I got a call that my specs were ready. Criminals. That is the only word that properly describes this business and the people that work here. I spent almost $500 dollars on glasses that were made to the wrong prescription and they cut the bolts on the frames so that the lenses cannot be removed so the glasses are junk. They are rimless Tag Heuer glasses and are very expensive that cannot be repaired due to their ineptness. I should have known when I called them to see if my glasses were ready and that they told me that there was a problem with my glasses and that is why they were late in delivering them. They told me that their vendor screwed up. I trusted them to fix it the problem. I went to pick up my glasses I told them that they felt funny and I couldn't see well and they told me that they are new and my eyes need to adjust. I retrospect I know that they are criminals that colluded with their vendor to push their mistake onto me. Do not use this business they are crooks. read more
