Dr Vo is wonderful, he is a clinical treatment optometrist, who keeps an eye on husband's pressure in his eyes and diabetic eye issues and our daughter who wears both glasses and contacts. If he spots any issues he can't address he will send you to the ophthalmologist. We're so glad to have found him, and see him for exams and glasses at least annually. I've been going here for an annual exam since grade school and the service has always been excellent! Dr. Vo is a very friendly person and even takes note of personal details, such as the college I am attending, to have quality conversations during each visit. The front desk staff are also friendly and easy to communicate with. I held off on coming due to the pandemic, but I was very impressed with their COVID safety precautions as they notify each patient to bring a face mask AND call before entering to avoid crowding. Thank you Yelp and yelpers for helping me to find a new eye doc. I'm absolutely TERRIFIED of conveyor-belt eye doctors - the ones who try their damnedest to get you in and out the door (ahem, Wal-mart). The last thing I need is a hurried eye exam and sloppy prescription. Dr. Vo certainly took his time with me. I hadn't gotten my eyes checked in almost two years, and since I lost my glasses on a work trip back in July, I needed to get my eyes examined stat. (Well, I did wait a while until my headaches started to get really bad.) I called ahead to make sure they accepted my eye insurance - which they did - and schedule an appointment that same day. Got my eyes checked, along with a prescription for contacts and glasses. Dr. Vo was very personable and friendly - and informative. The only downside? Now that I can see clearly, I've noticed far too many wrinkles, eye circles, blemishes, large pores and other unsightly situations happenin' all over my face - by no fault of Dr. Vo, of course. I spent a good $300+ at Sephora and MAC on new foundations, primers, powders, anti-wrinkle cream, etc. Point is ... Dr. Vo helped me see all that I've been missing - the good, the bad, and the ugly. As someone who isn't the bestest at adhering to the whole annual eye exams thing, I was initially going to relegate myself to a Walmart eye exam. But then, duh, why not peruse Yelp? This place popped up with a happy overall rating, so I thought why the heck not? Yay Yelp for saving the day. Dr. Vo and his staff are totally legit. As other reviewer have mentioned, they don't try to upsell you on anything, in fact they try to optimize your insurance so that you end up paying the least amount possible (sadly my eye insurance sucks, but thanks for looking into for me Eye Central.). Although there was a bit of a wait both times I was here - for the initial eye exam and then to receive my contacts prescription after trying out a new brand - it wasn't intolerably bad. And the wait permitted me to peruse their selection of frames, which seem to be on the reasonably-priced side. However, the lenses, especially if you're hopelessly blind like me, are quite pricey, but that's some sort of industry-set standard pricing scheme, I believe. Dr. Vo himself is quite friendly and engaging and competently addressed all my questions. Kind of opposite of my Walmart experiences . . . I'mjustsaying! Anyway, highly recommend and will be back in like . . . two years. read more

I was in dire need of an eye checkup. I was mostly postponing it since I had no idea where to go to in Houston. Once my headaches became completely unbearable I searched for an eye doctor near my place and luckily, I was directed here. I called to make an appointment and confirm that they accepted my insurance. The lady at the phone was very nice and when I came in there was absolutely no wait. I love that they open during the weekends! It is SO convenient. Dr. Vo and his assistants are super nice and accommodating. His assistant was the one that helped me fill out my initial forms and then guided me through the initial check-up tests. Then Dr. Vo checked my prescription and sent me on my merry way. I appreciated how friendly Dr. Vo is asking me how I heard about them. What I admired the most though was his honesty. I like wearing color contacts (not crazy ones, the normal-looking brown ones) and have been for a while. He pointed out how red my eyes were and mentioned that it was because of their thickness. I was never told this! He said they don't allow our eyes to "breathe" and that may cause damage long-term. He is knowledgable, quick, and overall a great Dr. The staff is very patient, whether helping you try on contacts or putting up with your deliberations over which frames to get. They have a decent selection also, with great sale items as well as the latest in designer eyeware. If you are looking for a bargain, it's a good place for frames. Hooray for inexpensive and efficient optometrists! I had a great experience here. The staff was friendly, everything was clean and the Dr. was pleasant. I'm very happy with my prescription which sometimes even at an expensive Dr. can get messed up or over corrected. I brought in my own frames (very picky about that and their selection is pretty minimal hence 4 not 5 stars) and they were filled and ready to go before I was. I'm always a step behind the times fashion-wise, but my (ack) Nine West silver frames were just not cutting it anymore. Also I sat on my Tina Fey-esque brown plastic glasses and they broke, so while I probably have a multitude of issues to address, I focused on obtaining a new prescription so I could get some more current, more hipsterific glasses. And I chose this place based solely off Yelp reviews. It was great! I called today and not only did they have available appointments, they were able to schedule me in during my lunch hour. And from my office to theirs and back, it took just a little over an hour. They saw me quickly with just a short wait (to be fair, as I was a first-time patient, there was some paperwork) and the staff and Dr. Vo were really nice. As mentioned in other reviews, Dr. Vo was quick but thorough, taking time to show me the photograph of my eye and point out that a big black spot was in fact just a shadow (phew). Also, something I really, really appreciate when dealing with doctors: he didn't push the pupil dilation on me. It would've netted him another $20-30, but he said my eyes looked healthy as is and as I'm fairly young and don't have a family history of eye disease, I was fine without it. Also: the visit cost me $30, which was definitely reasonable. They were upfront with me, before I even drove to my appointment, about how much everything was going to cost. Very pleasant visit. I used Yelp to find an optometrist ITL. The guy I used to go to in Chinatown is fine, but his hours are erratic and it's too far for me who hates driving. My last eye exam was...four years ago? I'm too cheap/lazy to wear contacts. I only decided to schedule an exam because my prescription sunglasses have been missing for the past month and let me tell you, driving in the Houston summer without my prescription sunglasses has been no bueno. I can wear a cheapo pair of non-prescription sunnies over my petite prescription frames for only so long. Out of the 4-5 eye clinics in the northwest quadrant ITL I emailed to get price quotes, this was the least responsive. Every other clinic's optometrist or office manager responded by the next business day, but this one asked me an additional question and then didn't respond to my answer by 2 business days afterward. It seemed to be the cheapest so I waited til they opened Saturday morning and gave them a call. They confirmed my suspicions and were able to schedule me the same day. The whole process took about an hour. They have their own parking lot with plenty of space. I arrived about 10 min early, filled out a half-sheet of information, and waited, passing the time flipping through a couple of magazines (Fortune, then Houston). A television was airing something that didn't interest me. About 40 min into my wait, an assistant did some screening exams - the typical "cover up one eye and read the smallest line you can," plus a couple of machines to look at my eye and check the pressure. That was when I realized my eyes had worsened in the past few years. Doh! After about another 10 min or so, the doc himself got me for the remainder of the exam. Y'know, the "which one's clearer, 1 or 2?" part. He also took a photo of my retinas and put them up on a flat panel so I could see how badly nearsighted I am. He suggested a dilated eye exam at my convenience. I did double check with some ophthalmologist friends and they agreed, but especially if I started seeing floaters. All in all, a decent experience and they were able to see me the same day. Dr. Vo did not seem rushed and answered all of my questions. Just wish they were more responsive over email since I have trouble making personal calls during regular business hours. read more

I had an eye infection, and my dog somehow chewed up my only spare glasses so I was frantic to get a new pair so I could work- they fit me in on the same day and the pair of glasses was ready the same day too! I've been going to Dr. Vo for the past 7 or 8 years! Both he and his staff are really wonderful. They are always extremely accommodating, polite, and helpful. They're always willing to squeeze me in and work with my totally hectic medical school/residency schedule. The prices on his frames are reasonable, if not on the low side, and I really can't find any other places that do lenses for cheaper. My eye sight is so bad that I have to get the fancy schmancy lenses or I'd be wearing coke bottle bottoms on my face. I went for a standard eye exam which cost me $40, very reasonable since eye insurance is a rip off. Dr. Vo and his staff is professional, fast and courteous. I was seen about 15 minutes after my appointment time, which is not terrible. The doctor has all relativity new technology, some things I did not see at my last doctor, or she had to do it manually. I brought over my husband to this place a couple of years ago and he found that he had been overpaying other eye doctors because of his lack of insurance! So to my knowledge this place is very affordable for those without insurance and the staff will be very helpful in helping you get your insurance on their records if there is a change. Great experience at Eye Care Central. Arrived a few minutes early for my appointment and the team was ready for me. Dr. Vo and his team were very thorough and professional. He did a great job with the examination and was more than willing to answer questions, and since I am a nerd engineer and have worn glasses for forty-five years, that is a lot of patience. They have a very nice selection of frames and lens choices. And the best part for me was my assistant actually offered constructive help when selecting frames. You know I am blind without glasses if I have been wearing them for forty-five years, and getting help when trying frames was so welcome. I went to another "trendy" eye doctor in Houston last year who charged me an extra $36 for the same thing! I left Dr. Vo's office spending $25 out of pocket and a year's supply of contact lenses. The other doctor last year cost me approximately $70 for I don't know what! I had an urgent need for a new eyeglasses prescription (long story as to why... I won't bore you), and this was the only optometrist I could find in my area (Midtown) that mentioned they accept walk-ins. I showed up just before they opened and was greeted with warm smiles. They were quick to understand my needs and said they'd fit me into the schedule as soon as it was possible. I waited for less than an hour -- which I consider to be remarkable! -- and then they treated me like an old friend. Not only were the staff friendly, competent and willing to spend extra time explaining things to me, but Dr. Vo was genuinely interested in my situation and did everything I wanted and more! There is no way I can overemphasize how great -- competent, helpful, friendly, efficient -- this group is. And if all that isn't enough, I found their fees to be very reasonable. My contact lens prescription was expired so I need a quick exam and new disposable contacts within 3 days because I was leaving the country. The optometrist at Costco charges $115 for the exam and Dr Vo only charges $5 more so I decided to stick with him even though it was less convenient for me at the time. I've been coming to Eye Care Central for 3 years. He talked me out of spending a few thousand dollars on LASIK (again) a couple years ago because he said in a few years my eyes would start becoming farsighted due to age and then I might need reading glasses. Made sense to me! Dr Vo is friendly and takes the time to educate you on what you should know. I can sometimes be unsure whether one or two is better. My prescription is perfect. I didn't purchase frames. I've been a patient here for a few years. Dr Vo is excellent - competent, friendly, efficient. Appointments are easy to make, usually on the same day. This afternoon I was in and out for my contact exam in 30 minutes. On busy days like the late December scramble to get the annual exam covered by insurance there can be a bit of a wait, but it's never too bad. The office is clean. They sell frames there but I've always purchased elsewhere and let them fill the lens prescription, which has also been easy and affordable. Overall a win! read more
