shrimp broccoli with white rice + egg roll

first i want to say i grew up here and this review is based upon my overall experience. the food is good but it's never really been more than average. there's a lot of spots within 15 minutes of each other and i'd look around first. if all else fails i would still get food here. but i'd say it's pretty in the middle of the pack

Golden Garden a typical American Chinese food restaurant located at the center of Middle Neck Road in Great Neck. It's everything you expect from this type of restaurant. The prices are excellent, about $7.35 for a lunch special and add about 3 bucks more for a dinner sized portion. They have delivery available through their own website. The website also offers an option to pay by credit card and a tipping option. There's also a $1 delivery charge. I tried the pork egg foo young, beef and broccoli, and chicken wings and fries lunch specials. The egg foo young came with a teriyaki-like sauce. I ate the egg foo young without it and it just as good. The egg was well cooked with plenty of roast pork inside. The beef and broccoli had giant pieces of broccoli flowers and the sauce was very standard. The chicken wings were fried with a curry tasting powder, which I really liked. The fried arrived hot, not sweaty, which a compliment to their fast delivery driver. Golden Garden is a nice place to order from if you live nearby, ensuring fast delivery and good quality food. I would order again from here in a pinch, when I need some fast food.

I can't believe that after almost 15 years in Great Neck and after over 120 Yelp reviews, I forgot to write one for my favorite Chinese take out spot! I've been ordering from Golden Garden for the past [probably] 12 or 13 years. I've been by their side as they've gone through new ownership and can still say that this is the best Chinese take out in town. It's hard to find a spot like this that's consistent and just as good each time you order, but I'd say Golden Garden is consistent 87% of the time. If you order during "off" times (like just before the dinner rush), I guarantee your food will be amazing. During dinner, it'll still be good but I can't guarantee it. My go-to's: Steamed Pork Dumplings- SO SO SO SO SO GOOD. I live in Manhattan now and can't find ones that compare. The dough is so thick and soft, the meat has just the right amount of salt, and the garlic sauce it's served with is bangin'! Hot and Sour Soup- Always filling, always good. ANY dish in garlic sauce- Whether its broccoli, chicken, shrimp, whatever. If you happen to order and it's not up to par, dump some soy sauce in it (I've learned through trial and error that's the best way to make it like Goldilocks likes her porridge..."just right"). Chinese Donuts- Basically zeppoles, and you can never go wrong with fried goodies. They're usually really fast whether you order for pickup or delivery, the prices are your standard Chinese take out prices, and the portions are massive.

Yum! Fried chicken wing with pork friend rice. Just pop it in microwave for a minute for covid cleansing :p

Good place serving chinese American food for delivery/take out. Just ordered and paid tip via credit card on the phone and heat it up in a minute in the microwave for covid cleanse

This spot is a great place for good food at an amazing value. I got their lunch specials - general two's chicken with pork fried rice and a beef chow fun with two hot and sour soups. All these dishes have that classic Chinese takeout flavor. The chicken was very saucy and tasty. The beef chow fun was also really flavorful with a nice aroma. The pork fried rice wasn't too exciting but still decent. The hot and sour soup had a good balance between hot and sour with nice chunks of muchrooms in it. Overall this order was only $15 and the portions were super BIG. They also are taking COVID-19 very seriously and is very safe with transactions with customers. Would definitely come back again!

Food was okays the wings tasted fine but the fried rice could've used a bit more flavor and a little softer. Sometimes it's hard to have a quick meal and this place did the job. Next time would like to try their chicken and broccoli with white rice..

My favorite Great Neck Americanized-Chinese restaurant is back open for business after the covid-19 shutdown! On 5/27/2020, I got their general Tso's chicken combo with pork fried rice and Diet Coke, excellent as usual! Top notch for Americanized-Chinese food. I called in my order and then when I got there, they did a safe through-the-window pay and pickup process. Highly recommend! (Again, for Americanized-Chinese. In its category this place is 5 stars.)

Will never get food from here again. Just avoided eating metal. Could have been a serious health issue. All I wanted was some Chinese food on a Saturday night!

CIGARETTE BUTT in their hot and sour soup! Disgusting!!!

Chicken wings were not bad. Chicken broccoli was average, big cuts of meat that tasted over cooked.

Was disappointed by the General Tsao's Chicken ... the breading to chicken ratio felt like 70% breading 30% chicken.

If I get the turkey, I get it with roast pepper, Cole slaw and Russian dressing. I've always gotten it "to-go". It's different than the thick hand-sliced pastrami and brisket you get from a place like Katz's and I'd probably place the quality very slightly below the Second Avenue Deli, but it's certainly as good, if not better, than Sarge's or Pastrami Queen (although maybe a slightly smaller portion) and it's less expensive. The staff has always been friendly and I once saw one of the guys who had worked at Ben's Best in Rego Park there. I really don't understand what the 'critics" here are referring to. Sometimes I wonder if they post about the wrong restaurant. My biggest complaint about the place is that it closes at 5:30pm (and that the website is down). Doesn't anyone like Jewish deli at night anymore?

It definitely lived up to our memories, we ended up coming back twice in one week! Between our visits, we ordered the Dweji-Gomtang with extra pork, the Layoo Dweji-Gomtang with extra pork (spicy version), Kimchi Mandoo, Gabrisal Soyuk (pork collar meat), and the So-Bbol Gomtang (beef cheek, brisket, and tripe). Everything was delicious, but the standout for us was the pork collar meat. It was incredibly tender, flavorful, and an absolute must-order. The portions are just the right size, and the restaurant has a fast-casual feel, making it perfect for a quick meal without sacrificing quality. Our kids especially loved the original Dweji-Gomtang. After trying both versions, I personally prefer the original pork soup over the spicy Layoo version, although both were excellent. The complimentary kimchi deserves a special mention - it was fresh, flavorful, and the perfect accompaniment to the soups. The Kimchi Mandoo also had a nice spicy kick while still being packed with flavor. We noticed a lot of the guests were ordering the Lard Donkatsu, so that's definitely on our list for our next visit. Safe to say we'll be back again and again!

Cuisine: 8 Service: 9…read moreDecor: 7 Value: 7 Overall: 8 I have been to the original location in K-Town. Though I did find the signature soup somewhat light in flavor and the menu a bit too small, I had a good overall experience. Therefore, I still gave it four stars for the unique and elegant aspects of this restaurant that's specializing in really one item. On this latest visit to the newer Bayside branch, I definitely enjoyed this location more. The main reasons are that they have a large selection of menu items and it's not as busy. As for the food, here is my ratings and comments for everything we tried. Dweji-gomtang (7.5/10) - I came here with my parents because they have to intake less sodium, so this light and clean broth was perfect for them. I personally added some salt to bring out the flavor of the soup. The thinly sliced pork tasted awesome in the wasabi dipping sauce. So-Bbol Gomtang (7/10) - Another extremely clean soup, but this time it's beef based. Unfortunately, compared to many other Korean beef soups I have had over the decades, this one was less flavorful. The beef cheek, brisket and tripe were all great though. Lard Donkatsu (8.5/10) - This was the highlight of our meal. What deliciously juicy and tender thick cut pieces of pork fried to perfection. Not greasy and super crispy. The accompanying potato salad and shredded cabbage were both fantastic too. Ebi Katsu (8/10) - Little appetizer that was well made and tasty. Crispy panko outside, bouncy small whole shrimps on the inside, paired wonderfully with the fairly acidic tartar sauce was delightful. Kimchi Mandoo (6.5/10) - I am generally not a mandoo fan, even after trying some of the more famous ones in South Korea. I do think the thin skin on these mandoo are excellent, with a slight chew. However, I don't like the finely diced filling. The standout flavor of the kimchi also masks everything else. Can't really taste the pork. Mung Bean Pancake (6.5/10) - I had really good ones in Korea and these didn't really compare. I wish it was more crispy and had a more savory flavor. As for service, Jay was very attentive even though he was handling the entire bar on his own. An example was refilling my tea cup several times when it became half full. Honestly, he was so busy taking care of everything that I didn't expect him to do so when the tea pot was right in front of me. Anyway, he was excellent. Lastly, we met Chef Ok, who was in the store for a while before leaving for the Manhattan branch. My parents and I really enjoyed watching Netflix's Culinary Class Wars, so I told him that we saw him on season 2. He was very friendly and took pictures with all the patrons in restaurant. Anyway, if I feel like a good fried katsu in Queens, this is now my new go to spot. I also believe my parents will want to come back for the light and clean soups. Either way, we'll be back.
