I'm a recent resident of New Hyde Park, and my partner has tried a few local Chinese restaurants and recommended New China as a good spot for inexpensive Chinese takeout. After my first meal from there tonight, I'm sold. The homestead bean curd is lighter than what I've had at other places in the past, but still tasty and flavorful. The small was still a great portion, and the rice cartons are nicely packed full. My partner has had their vegetable lo mein and gave it a thumbs up, and even though it's not on the menu, you can get General Tso's tofu here too, and he enjoyed that very much as well. I will probably explore one of their other vegetable options next time, but good to know the standards are reliable. Ordered from here a few times. The food is recent. Pretty average Chinese takeout. I liked that the food arrived piping hot. The BBQ spare ribs were also well marinated and the garlic sauce in the chicken and broccoli was tasty. What I didn't love was their fried rice and egg roll. The egg roll lacked filling and all it was fried wrapper! The fried rice, while dry (meaning not greasy) is cooked with yellow food coloring. It's not the worst, but definitely not my preference. Their chicken wings are usually well fried, but be prepared that you may run into a small feather, usually at the tip of the wing. I may stop ordering from here given their health reports. read more

So, as if being a pizza expert wasn't enough, I'm now a self-appointed Egg-roll expert, sampling egg rolls from around town. Today, "Egg-roll Monday" I bought egg-rolls from three different Chinese food take out restaurants. This egg-roll review is for the New China ( as opposed to the old China or maybe New Normal?) in New Hyde Park, across from Taco Bell. I have misplaced my phone and cannot even take photos to share though I still am unable to upload any ( think i need to do a mac update, idk) so my words will have to suffice for now - once again:) New China's egg-rolls @ $2+tax are the costlier of the 3 places bought from today, yet they also contain the less pork, making them more of a pork-less egg roll than a pork egg roll. They were a bit on the thin side too. This is fine if you don't want to ingest any nasty pig meat, but I doubt anyone buying egg rolls would be concerned with that UNLESS they had not a clue as to what's in a pork egg roll - and did NOT want to eat pork. As for myself, I enjoy some pig meat in an egg roll. As for its overall enjoyment/taste, I've had much better egg rolls. It was NOT crunchy though I like it a bit soft and it tasted more like the cabbage inside. Had an "Earthy" taste to it, IMHO. I'd not buy their egg rolls again. I've not been here in more than 18 months. I used to get their chicken/broccoli which WAS good then, but I've no idea how it is now. When I become a Chicken&broccoli expert, I'll review that then:) One thing I though was kind of comical in a sad way, was the young lady working there, cooking over the pots of whatever, held her phone in one had, up to her mouth while stirring and pouring with her other hand. Maybe I'm just jealous I can't do that anymore ( not that I ever tried ) but when you're working around food, focus on the food you're cooking, aka Your Job, and make your calls afterwards. Had the phone slipped out of her hand into the soup ( or whatever was in the pot ) there'd be an apple in that pot and she'd need a new phone. The young man at the counter and "cooking" my egg rolls, was also - on the phone though only watching videos. It's amazing anything gets done properly nowadays with most being distracted/addicted to that darn phone. Just like surgery, there's a time and place for everything including phone calls or video watching. It used to be on breaks, lunch/dinner or when work is done. Seems most just can't wait that long anymore. It's sad. Anyways.... A 2 out of 5 is what I'm giving the almost pork-less egg rolls here. And that's only because they were not dripping oil and they appeared to be made in clean fresh oil. read more

I've been going here for lunch since they make good Chinese food for a decent price. I prefer the veggie lunch special with pork fried rice. It also comes with a choice of soup or egg roll. I got the sweet and sour soup, it tasted really good. Will be coming back here. read more

In my endless search for a good Chinese takeout/delivery spot it seems that New China is becoming our new go to spot. Besides having some fairly decent food, their prices are a bit lower than most others I have tried in the area. The food is "Americanized" to be sure, and not all of the items are good versions, but for the majority they fit the bill. Some things I like: General Tso's Chicken or Shrimp: Either of this dishes are good versions. The chicken is more sliced than chunks and usually cooked well although an overcooked piece here or there springs up from time to time. Shrimp were large, but excessive coating. Although sweet they can balance it with adjustable spicy heat preference when you order. 3.5 stars Wonton soup: Soup is a bit bland. The Wontons can be a bit doughy, but good flavor. The crispy noodles with this are usually freshly made. 3 stars Moo shu Chicken (or anything Moo Shu): Comes with 5 pancakes and super generous amount of Moo Shu. Good Hoisin sauce. 1st time I ordered it was really good, next was meh - consistency issues. 3.5 stars Get the Fried over Steamed Pork Dumplings. I usually preferred steamed ones, but here the fried are simply better. Usually a decent amount of meat, but fairy doughy. Nice dipping sauce. 3.5 stars for fried, 2.5 stars steamed. Chow Fun I really enjoyed here - those flat, wide rice noodles you can't stop eating have a really nice flavor. Good noodle texture as well. 4 stars Chinese Eggplant with garlic sauce - a bit on the sweet side, but these little purple eggplants are tasty. 3.5 stars Avoid the Gyoza which was bland and swimming in pool of water when I received them. They have their own website to order, which seems more generous with the discounts then ordering through Yelp, Grubhub, over the phone, but unfortunately it is NOT SECURE so don't order this way unless they fix the issue. Delivery is fast and courteous. 4 stars because it is the best I can find in my delivery area. read more

Calling them seems like you are burdening their lives by placing an order, and when you finally pickup, the same gruff attitude is dished out with your food. This place is decent for a Chinese takeout in L.I. especially when you don't want to drive all the way to Flushing for Chinese food. I ordered their sweet & sour chicken w/white rice and fried chicken wings w/fried rice. The sweet & sour chicken was crispy and tender as well as the fried chicken wings (a bit underseasoned though). I ordered a variety of veggie options to include: 1) spring rolls 2) fried vegetable dumplings 3) vegetable lo mein 4) vegetable in garlic sauce Everything was good. Nothing crazy, but what you'd expect so I was happy, and hungry, enough. The only issue was that the fried dumpling was a bit spongy. That's my fault for ordering fried (vs steamed) dumpling on a delivery order as the containers arent ventilated to keep them crispy. Pretty happy though and would order from them again. I've ordered from New China plenty of times. It's not the best Chinese food I've ever had but it's the most decent in the area. I've never had an issue before the order I placed tonight. I typically leave a 20% standard tip for all deliveries. Tonight, the delivery man had an issue with my tip due to the weather. If you have a problem doing your job in the rain, don't do it at all. Run away from this place. The only reason that I ordered from this restaurant was because it was on Grubhub and this restaurant had a promo where they would take $5 off your 1st order along with free delivery. I guess there is a reason why they have to give promos to get people to order from this restaurant. Do not order from this place, run away as fast as possible. First of all, when the delivery guy came to drop off the order, he was still hanging around the entrance of my home which was very creepy. When I opened container of food, it looked really bad. They didn't even fill up the dish too and the shrimp had this weird color. I took a picture of the food and chatted with Grubhub. As soon as I showed Grubhub the picture of the food, the rep replied "Oh no" and she refunded my money in full. I didn't even touch the food and threw it in the garbage. Also I ordered a pork egg roll. It was really small and there was like maybe 4 little pieces of pork in there. You might as well have called it a veggie roll. Plus they are so cheap that they couldn't even give you 1 free fortune cookie. I guess I am lucky that they even gave me utensils, 1 soy sauce, 1 duck sauce and 2 napkins. Wow, today was my lucky day, but get this!!! The story gets even better. The owner of the restaurant calls me on my cell phone and asks me why did you cancel the order? I told him, your food was terrible and Grubhub refunded me back and I assume that Grubhub didn't pay him either. He starts to argue with me and has the audacity to tell me that he wants the food back. I told him that I threw it in the trash and he still proceeds to tell me that he wants to take the food back. Can you believe this guy? You can't serve this to anyone else, that's a health code violation. After this incident, I reported this harassment to Grubhub. I told him if someone comes back to my home to try and take the food back after I threw it in the trash, I will call the police for harassment!! This guy has no shame, he should have been embarrassed for trying to serve food like this in the first place, but to take it further by threatening to come back to my house to take the food back from my garbage can, absolutely shameful! With these antics, a business like this deserves to go out of business. After anyone reads this review, I urge you never to order from this restaurant. They deserve to go out of business. read more

This has been my go to Chinese place for years. Our standard order is chicken with broccoli, which is always delicious, I'm a huge fan of the fried crab sticks with tartar sauce. Thinking about those just make me want to take a late night trip to New China! The sesame chicken and the seafood soup is also highly recommended. We've also ordered fried scallops, chicken wings, steamed chicken with broccoli, and the spare ribs which we also really love. Can't think of anything I didn't like. They renovated recently, got a new menu with some great additions like bubble tea and smoothies. I think they definitely took a step in the right direction and will keep ordering from this great and fast take out/delivery place. read more

After getting their new menu in the mail this week and reading some of these reviews, I decided to take a ride and grab some of this jung young wing wang food to see what it was all about. We had the spare ribs on the bone, the boneless ribs, shrimp with garlic sauce, rice, and wonton soup. Bottom line is that its no better or no worse than the usual Chinese takeout places everywhere else. The food isnt bad but I usually ordered online, probably about 50 times. On March 30 2020 I ordered $35 worth of food that never came. I called and no one answered. I assumed they were closed due to pandemic. But they still took my money. I called when they reopened and was told "it's too late" to get a refund, even tho I had proof that they took my money. New China is my favorite Chinese take-out in the area. It's delicious, reasonably priced, and they have fast delivery. As far as entrees are concerned, they have my second favorite chicken/beef with broccoli in the area (second only to Super China, which sadly does not deliver to me), and solid sesame chicken, General Tso's, fried rice, and lo mein. They definitely have my favorite appetizers in the area. The egg rolls are nicely packed with balanced portions of pork and vegetables. The fried cheese wontons are literally some of the best fake crab rangoon I've ever had, and they come with sweet and sour sauce. The dumplings are great as well, not too doughy. $10 minimum to deliver, and the menu has a deal for a free can of soda with your $10 purchase. Make sure you ask for it, though. The other deals on their menu are great (2 free egg rolls or friend wontons or soda with $20 purchase, as well as other deals for $30, $40, $50). read more

Solid take out Chinese spot. Not the greatest I've had in the area, but I usually order from here, especially when I'm alone, because of the low prices and low minimum for delivery. Also no delivery fee! If you order through their website and make an account, you can also get 15% off your order. I have had the sesame chicken and the 3 stars in garlic Sauce. The 3 stars is my favorite! My boyfriend and I usually share this for dinner and it is plenty of food. Lunch/dinner specials are also a good deal.
