This is the second time I've visited this location (and the first time was long ago). We'd been seeing the TV ads for the $60 chicken tender special, and it looked so good we wanted to try it. We got there about 12:20 on a Saturday. We went inside and were the fourth in line at the front counter. (The "order here" ipad wasn't working). There was no one at the register. It appeared that all employees were working for the drive-through. One gal glanced over at the counter once and sort of grimaced, but said nothing, no "be with you in a minute," "sorry for the delay," NOTHING. We all just stood there like idiots while we were completely ignored. After 5-6 minutes we gave up and went next door to Olive Burger. I realize that lunch time is busy for a fast food place, but to be completely ignored while we're standing there in the restaurant is insulting - and guarantees that we won't return. read more

I'm allergic to chicken, but love their rolls! Saw that they offer breakfast and a few non chicken items. Had the breakfast burrito. It comes with eggs, bacon, sausage and cheese. Would not recommend. The eggs were cubed and dry...far from scrambled and fluffy. The meats had no discernable flavor and the cheese was American. Ordered the combo which comes with hash rounds and a drink. The rounds tasted like a Long John Silvers restaurant smells. Gross. This tells me that they do not change their oil nearly enough. Had high expectations with this visit since it's right down the street from the home office. Food was great and most of the staff was great. I say most because the man taking orders and apparently having to work behind the counter was not a happy person. He kept rushing customers to hurry and order because he had other things to do. He would yell back to the kitchen "I will be there as soon as I can". He would clap his hands and say "come on let's go next customer". He wasn't horrible but you could tell he was put off by being short staffed I would assume. I hope he isn't the manager or he may be in the wrong business. read more

12-21-2022 Golden Chick on Arapaho Total disaster. Buffalo wings were horrible. Really nasty. Just a cold soggy mush of orange goop and lots of broken chicken bones. This was completely inedible and disgusting. I was really looking forward to the Buffalo wings. So much so that I ordered extra. All in the trash bin. It was like they have been sitting in this nasty cold sauce for hours and the crispy fried part has broken down to orange mush. How do you break nearly every bone? That's a real mystery. Bone fragments throughout. We threw this disgusting meal away. Only good part was the chicken salad and the rice. We used to Love GC. I'm pretty much done. Very sad. Lost a loyal family. I wanted to see what the hype was about. I ordered two 4 piece golden tender combos (spicy). One with mac & cheese and gravy, the other with fries and honey mustard. I was so so disappointed. It looked like someone had just tossed spicy seasoning on top. More in the box than on the chicken. It was clumped up in the corners. There was no honey mustard sauce to be seen, even though I clearly ordered it, asked her if my sauce was inside my box and she said yes it is. I attempted to eat the gravy but the consistency was extremely runny and it had small white lumps in it. The mac and cheese had no flavor at all and the tenders weren't exactly moist. The best part of the combos was the sweet yeast roll and drink! I tried calling the number on the receipt. It just rang but I wasn't surprised. It was a complete waste of my money and time. For fast food fried chicken, I'm actually liking Golden Chick. I've never seen them anywhere before moving to Dallas. Sure, I'll say that it's no Super Chix (which I do love), but this is a fried chicken place, and not so much a chicken sandwich place. And yes, I'm aware that they offer rotisserie chicken too, but I haven't bothered with that, because of all the southern items in the menu making me think I should go with fried. The yeast rolls are good, the fried chicken are good, and the menu offerings are good. Even the seating atmosphere inside is pretty nice for a fast food place. So what is there to complain about? Service maybe? I don't care, not in a fast food place - but even so, I didn't encounter bad service eating inside. But overall, I thought Golden Chick can compete well with the other national fried chicken name brands (Church's, KFC, Popeye's, etc). So yeah, I'm giving a good review for this fast food joint. The outside appearance of this establishment doesn't scream "come inside". However, the food is another story. I have never been disappointed in the food. The chicken is great and so is the green beans - I know, right. Why am I commenting on the green beans at a chicken place? What sets this GC location apart from the rest is Darrell. Darrell always has a smile on his face as he welcomes you into the restaurant. His attitude really sets the tone for the visit. In fact, when he is not there, it's almost a let down. I usually use the drive thru when I come here but recently I dined in. They seem to have updated the interior because everything looks new. They also added a self serve kiosk so you can order yourself. They even have booths now. Service has always been fast and friendly, both in the drive thru and dine in. The food was fresh and hot. Edit: 11/10/23 Dropped from two stars to one star because oh my gosh I am just barely getting over the food poisoning over a week later. Here's the thing- my family and I are not regular fast food eaters and we eat a balanced healthy diet so when we choose fast food we have always chosen golden chick because it's literally the best. I'm pretty sure it was the mac n cheese. As a former cook I'm more than sure this was caused by raw chicken juice getting into the mac n cheese and allowed to fester while the machine or holding container for it was probably not keeping the correct temperature to prevent bacterial growth. I had to throw out all of my leftovers and groceries I bought prior to becoming sick dueto not being able to get out of bed for over a week and cook for my family. They were all spoiled. This cost me easily $100 out of my pocket just because I wanted to have a day off cooking and enjoy some delicious fried chicken. I will not be back ever again, not out of pettiness, but genuinely it would make me sick to my stomach to eat here after the memories of this week. read more

The food has always been hot and fresh and somehow it seems better now than when I was a kid. Darrell behind the counter here is a true asset to this location and the company. I see this location from the Richardson Library which I go to a lot yet I have not stepped inside Golden Chick. I have only been to this store 2x, counting today. The other time was years ago and I don't even remember if I got food. Today I got the 4 piece tenders (spicy) which comes with a roll and a side with a drink. The tenders were so crispy yet tender and moist (on the inside). I was so stuffed that I couldn't finish my side almost but being the secret fatty, I did. All that for 7.57. I would come here again all the time to satisfy my fried chicken cravings. The fatty in me would have taken an ice cream to go but I was too stuffed and it was cold outside. I picked it up and it started pouring out from the bottom due to a hole. One lady just looked at me and then told another lady what was happening in Spanish and they both just stared as I scrambled to find napkins. One lady handed me a cup full of ice for me to put the remainder of the drink inside. The only person willing to actually help me was a nice black man who worked there. I thanked him and left. I can honestly say this is the most consistent Golden Chick I've had since I first tried it years ago. LOVE their yeast rolls and chicken!! Their fried chicken is not too oily and has the right amount of crispiness. The yeast rolls are so soft and tasty! We also ordered a medium drink of sweet tea. Their medium looked like a large! Sweet Tea was better than most. I would not recommend their gravy though. Their gravy was very runny and barely had any taste. I love golden chics food but it's always hit or miss with me. There are times I order wicked wings and they are so over cooked and dry I have to throw them all away. Today I went and ordered tenders thought that might help and it did it was very good today. The only problem I had was the gravy was very watery and runny I would have liked a thicker consistency. Another thing I dislike is when you pull up they can never hear you so you have to scream ypur order which is so annoying. I'd had a long day exhibiting my wares at a falsely advertised event. I was beaten up, downtrodden. But you, Golden Chick, were there for me. I ordered a box with spicy golden tenders, a yeast roll and fries. You asked me if I wanted gravy. No thanks, I said. That will be plenty. I waited awhile for my lunch to be freshly prepared, but nothing could have prepared me for the smell that entered my vehicle. I tore into the box. I could tell instantly that this was no Colonel's recipe. I hungrily grabbed a piece of your golden goodness, like a starving wolf. Spicy deliciousness. I'd never tasted chicken like this! The soft yeast roll beckoned to me. One bite and I fell in love. How could it be so sweet? I'd only imagined bread like this existed. And at a fast food joint, no less! The fries were spicy and salty and perfect. This was the beginning of a too-short-lived love affair. I brought DD here the next day. And a friend here the next. We never wanted to leave you.
