It was early in the day so I got enough to eat some now and some for later. Besides the chicken, I got a side of their zesty shrimp, corn poppers and delicious Mc. Donald's sweet tea. Oh, there was a customer that was obviously having a bad day and was looking to take it out people she could control, they gave her everything but the kitchen sink to hurry and get her outta there. When I see people like her or situation like what I witnessed, it truly makes me rethinking my own actions; from both sides/outside looking in. I decided to stop by since it had been a while, and I remembered having one of the best chicken sandwiches here. What stood out to me before was the size, the texture of the chicken, and the soft bun--it was a great sandwich. Unfortunately, this location didn't live up to that memory. I went through the drive-thru around 3:30 p.m., after the lunch rush, which I appreciated because there wasn't a line. However, the service wasn't pleasant. The employee at the window made the interaction feel rushed, almost as if I was inconveniencing him. I had to ask for my condiments twice because he seemed more focused on juggling the drive-thru window and taking another order over the speaker than making sure my order was complete. That was frustrating. To make matters worse, the chicken sandwich itself was disappointing. Instead of a nice, even filet, it was more like a ball of chicken that wasn't even suitable for the bun it was served on. I'm honestly not sure why it made it out of the kitchen looking like that. My coworkers and I ordered wicked wings from this location. We also had fried okra and corn nuggets. I was not even half way through my food before I had gotten sick and ran to the restroom to vomit. I came back to the office to my co-workers stating they are also experiencing stomach pains and headaches. I spoke with the manager on duty at 1:44pm. After I explained what we were experiencing, she asked me did I still have the food and also stated I would need a doctors note in order to be helped. She stated she couldnt do anything to help us at all. I have worked in the fast food industry as an assistant general manager for over a decade and I am completely aware of the protocol when receiving a call concerning a health issue with the food purchased. I've been dying to try this place. Though the chicken was good, it tasted much like it was trying to be Chicken Express. That is not an issue with me, so I loved it. However, the sides here all seemed rather flavorless and over-fried? The fried okra was a huge disappointment. The fries were very good, though! I was late getting out of work for lunch and this place had the shortest line at that moment. It filled up quickly behind me and they had a person directing traffic. I hadn't been here before and as I pulled up to the menu board, I realized I had a few options. I saw the 3 pcs catfish and picked that quickly. I was out of the line in no time! The cole slaw was pretty good and the catfish strips were very good. Not bad for fast food! The roll, well, it was a roll. I was tickled to see they are the sponsors of the Texas Ranger Dot Races. If I could give zero stars I would. Please see attached receipt and what I received or lack thereof. I don't know if it's just because I live in Irving or what, but fast food over here is really atrocious. Even checking reviews of fast food places in Irving you see 2 or less stars & I'm sad to say it's true. I wish I would have went with my first mind but had family over late and decided to grab chicken. I ordered a simple 12 piece MIX chicken, that was supposed to come with 2 family sides. Mine were supposed to be mashed potatoes & Mac n cheese. I only received the Mac n cheese which was watered down and deplorable. They did NOT include the other side which should have been mashed potatoes. The MIX order of chicken consisted of 10 pieces of DARK meat and 2 pieces of white (MIXED) and smelled rancid. Either the chicken was old yet still fried or it was old and refried again like customers would not know any better! The entire $50 meal was inedible! I will be returning the meal as soon as they open tomorrow since they closed right when I made it home. I'm expecting a full refund and may even contact the health department. Dinner ruined. Very disappointed!! Ordered at drive thru and was told it would be a 10 minute wait for chicken. I pulled up and paid. Again was told by staff about wait and I acknowledged. Told staff I would be parked in handicap spot in front and he stated he will bring out order. I waited 15 min and no food. I then decided to put on my foot brace so I can walk into store to check status of my order. There was no others dining inside and went up to counter and my food was just sitting there. I told the young man I've been waiting outside and a gentleman in a blue shirt turned around and saw me and pointed to my food. No acknowledgement or apology. I got home and realized my chicken was overcooked and well beyond extra crispy. They did not give me green beans but instead some type of Cajun style rice I had to throw out as it was too spicy hot for me to eat. I have been to this location several times as I work down the street and never encountered such a bad experience. The staff was clean and courteous, the facility was scrubbed until spotless both inside and out. But importantly, the food was hot and fresh. I ordered the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich and a side of jalapeño poppers. The sandwich was pretty good but the poppers were great. A Texas original! Never tried Golden Chick but I am always on a quest to find the best chicken tenders so I gave it a try and was not disappointed! The tenders are moist, crunchy on the outside and not greasy at all. Fried the same with a great light breading. Very friendly and helpful staff and the community in the restaurant was fun to talk to. Then to top things off they have a commentary soft serve ice cream, can it get better! Comparing to the best tenders they are in the top 3, I think they have Popeye's beat as they are less greasy. But local Chicken Barn in Modesto, CA still holds the top spot. read more

Another highly over-saturated QSR sub segment, the fried chicken market. While I am cognizant of the fact I am in the South, I really did not think I would have so many options for fried chicken and fried chicken derivatives. Chicken Express, William's Chicken, Raising Cane's, Popeye's, the progenitor itself Kentucky Fried Chicken, Zaxby's, Chick-Fil-A, Church's Chicken, Helen's Hot Chicken, Pollo Campero, El Pollo Loco, and even Bush's Chicken if you venture out of DFW a few miles. I did not mean to have a bit of a monologue, however it's inescapable for me. I do value fried chicken, it's an efficient meal when used in moderation. It's affordable, satiating, and somewhat easy to digest. Golden Chick is perhaps one of the more standardized chains. Known primarily for their yeast rolls, this chain has both tenders and your more recognizable standard chicken pieces (breast, thigh, wing, drumstick). They also have catfish, which does get a different batter treatment. The chicken pieces, at least that's what they will be called herein, are available in Golden Fired and Golden Roast, of which I actually prefer the Golden Roast. The tenders, are only available fried up, however they are done up regular or spicy, and now with 2 or so dipping/dunking options. At the current time that would be classic buffalo and Korean BBQ. My biggest complaint here would be the sides. The battered french fries typically come out limp and tend to be unsentimental , the macaroni and cheese is disastrous, and this would really be the area where they could improve the most. However, when fresh, the yeast rolls are really quite good. They also have "Lotta Zing" seasoning packets if you request them, which are a nice touch. Overall, you can feed quite a few people with their family meals, and chicken tenders tend to be universally accepted by even the pickiest of eaters. read more

Visited this location around 8:30pm for the second and last time. Drive thru: My order was an 8 piece chicken mix 4 breasts & 4 legs The lady that was taking the order vanished for 2 mins. A guy gets on the mic and immediately says, "First of all, we don't have breasts and I wouldn't ring it up with legs.....we have thighs and wings...there is a 16 min wait for breasts..." After being addressed like that, who in their right mind would want to wait for anything from this location. I began to laugh because I honestly couldn't believe that statement came from an employees mouth. Why did I come to this location?--because I got tired of chasing the invisible chicken sandwich from Popeyes I took my order to KFC and they were happy to sell all pieces of a chicken I wanted plus a few T#s from the bell side. What I find extremely sad about this location is that this store is NEVER EVER EVER packed with customers, maybe @ lunch time and that's probably because McDonald's gets full. I first visited this Irving, TX location in March 2021. I'd never been to a Golden Chick previously. I've since visited the same location perhaps a dozen times. I've tried their "Big Golden" sandwich, the tender combo (my fave), their cod sandwich, the "tender salad" and the seafood meal. And added the fried shrimp to a few meals. I've been pleased with all of them. The tenders melt in your mouth, and the batter is subtle and not oily or overpowering - just enough to hold the meat together and provide a little "crunch". The sides are fresh, and neither overly salted, nor overly sweetened -- and plenty of choices too. The fried shrimp is delicious. And that cod sandwich -- tasty and premium cod -- which is hard to find at other fast food joints. And the sweet/brioche rolls are a nice touch. They have a generous selection of different dipping sauces. The meat portions here seem more slightly more generously sized/substantial than Chick Fil-a. I am now a big fan of Golden Chick. read more

I decided to make a lunch run today for work. Everyone gave me orders and cards. The guy behind the counter was very nice. I was organized and this went really smoothly. If the entire experience was with him this review would be VERY different. Once my order was placed into 6 seperate bags one by one they yelled numbers out. No ticket on bags... just one ticket call and that's it. I was at drink station filling drinks while these numbers were yelled out (along with numbers for other customers). Made my way back to the counter where no one was willing help me determine if the orders were even mine much less which order was belonged to which ticket #. The manager was VERY rude and said "that's why we call the ticket numbers out". I asked for drink carriers and a large bag to carry my 6 drinks in.... She rudely pointed to drink station and said they are over there. Then denied me a large bag to carry them in... Then guess what... shocker.... We got someone else's food too and we were missing an order. Most of this could have been advoided by adding a receipt to each bag.... there is nearly ZERO concern for the customer and it is clear why this place has terrible reviews. I hope someone who cares sees this review and implements changes that will help make lunch time less chaotic and more customer focused. read more

The catfish was undercooked and size portion were really small. The fries were over cooked and tasted like they were deep fried twice (cooked once initially and sat at and got cold, so they fried them again).
