Let me start off that this place has the worse service ever. I ordered off the app. Got there 3 minutes after it was supposed to be done and they hadn't done anything. Lady in drive through said to wait in front and it would be brought out. 20 minutes later still nothing. I go in and the food is sitting on counter getting cold. Boom! Chica La La!!! They were busy when we drove through but that wasn't a problem for this young crew of professionals. The attendant took our order, repeated it, provided options, and gave our total through the speaker. Our food was ready when we reached the window, and they upsized my fountain drink at no charge because they were out of medium cups! They also gave an insane amount of okra! I'm a fried chicken addict and have been for years. I thought I had tried them all but saw this today while in Bowie for something else. Only negative (that is actually a positive for the business) is the parking lot is too small. There were so many people dining in and in the drive thru you will have to wait for an opening to enter or leave the parking lot. Once inside, the lobby was very nice. A mix of tables and booths, four large TVs showing three programs and one showing commercials for Golden Chick. Service was quick, accurate and she wasn't afraid to recommend something when asked. I tried the four piece chicken with dirty rice and the Wife had the four tenders and fries. The sides were great; fries were crispy and NOT greasy as the number one place in town is. The dirty rice was superb. Well-seasoned and perfectly cooked, it was awesome. The chicken...oh my! I always try the leg first and it was super tender, moist, and cooked to perfection. The breading was super crispy on all pieces with great flavor, crisp and seasoning. The star though was the breast. I usually do not eat them since they are overcooked, dry and at times inedible, but this was cooked perfectly and in every part of the breasts meat it was super moist, cooked through, flavorful and crispy breading. They also have large pieces of chicken unlike the three letter chicken stands. I liked this so much, it is my new standard for fast food chicken, the others are now dead to me. He ordered the 2 Piece Fried Chicken Meal and I had the 5 piece Fried Catfish Meal and Side Salad. For my SoCal friends, the chicken batter at Golden Chick is much like KFC's Extra Crispy. Another nicety of Golden Chick is the complimentary Soft Serve Ice Cream, which comes in handy when it's scorching hot in the 110's like it was this week! :P Fried Catfish: 4.5/5 Let's just say I was rather impressed! Impressed by the tasty batter. Impressed by the serving size. Impressed by the freshness. Impressed by the moistness. Bravo, Golden Chick! If you were here in SoCal, I'd be there all. the. time! The side salad was alright. It was fresh, but your typical fast food salad. They included two hush puppies and they were very respectable for a fast food joint. Finally, I want to close out this review with praise for Golden Chick's rolls. O.M.G!!! Are you kidding me? I've never been so happy to gain weight and load up on carbs! They were soooooo soft and not too dense. Slightly buttery in flavor, adding more butter is unnecessary. But it is imperative that you add generous amounts of honey! That's all I have, yelpers. I don't understand why our order is never right here. Not always for the bad but never right!! Ordered 3 separate dinners the other night, one 2 piece roasted with green beans, one 3 pieces roasted with mashed potatoes and one 4 piece tender dinner with green beans and honey mustard instead of gravy. Received two 3 piece roasted with green beans and one 5 piece tenders with green beans and no honey mustard. Ok? The last time we went they had run out of one of the items so instead of asking if we wanted a substitution instead just subbed what they felt was the equal value in another item. It is like this pretty much every trip to this place, the reason we go back is the roasted chicken and sweet tea. They are good. The last visit however they pretty much handed us our food to go and closed the window and ignored us so we couldn't even correct the food.... not cool! I ordered chicken tenders with fries and a catfish meal w drinks. I paid the cashier and she told me it would be approximately 5 minutes to cook the fish. Another car came in behind me and she asked me to circle around, so I did. When I pulled up my food was ready. The requested condiments were in the boxes. The catfish was crispy and delicious, but not real meaty. (More crust than fish). The cole slaw was juicy and crisp, but a tad sweet. My husband got chicken strips with fries and gravy. I've been there once and it was GREAT. They have free ice cream and their chicken was GREAT. At first I thought the price was pretty high, but they give you your drink with the meal and that makes a big difference. They have free ice cream. Another couple told us that they have a free dessert, but they were out of it when we were there. A good all around experience. This location looks new, still new doesn't always mean clean but in this case the store was very clean, restroom (ladies) included. I ordered a tender combo with fried okra. I've eaten my fair share of tenders and these were the BEST! Flaky, both the meat and the crust, hot, flavorful, just really dang good! Everything was piping hot, gravy, chicken, okra, and roll. I usually don't eat rolls but this time I did. The staff was friendly and service was fast and it was smack in the middle of lunch hour. Rude staff. The blonde with the short hair pretty much accused me of lying when I asked her to replace the 4 rolls missing from our last order. Just got my $20 back and left without my food. Really poor customer service and the roasted was very dried out so better off withoit it. Will miss the rolls though. Lol. Just chech your order I say because they mess up a lot and wont admit it.
