This bakery is really cute and delicious. I didn't get a chance to try any of the baked goods but the ones they had on display were very tempting. I did happen to get some hot food and I took it home with me. I have never seen shrimp shumai so big before. Like I ate one and I got full, honestly delicious. They tasted so fresh and there was even vegetables in it, which made the taste more elevated. The ribs over rice was also delicious. The ribs to rice ratio is a little off personally, but for the price you really can't complain. Both dishes costed me eight dollars in total. They do have seating, two metal tables inside. The restaurant/bakery is a little bit cramped and it's a bit small but if you just need to run in and grab a quick meal and leave, it's perfect. At a less busy time it would be nice to sit inside and enjoy your food as well. read more

My husband introduced me to Chinese ones and I became a fan. I love going to them now and seeing what kind of baked or steamed foods they have. I was in the area today and I stopped by this one. It was busy and I can tell it was popular. The process were reasonable and the food looked fresh. I was happy to see they had the red bean paste buns. They sold 2 small ones in 1 packet. They also sell dim sum items, noodles, meat with rice, and more. Along with the red bean paste buns, I bought chicken with dried mushroom and rice and shrimp rice rolls. They were all good. I especially enjoyed the red bean paste buns. My daughter and husband liked them too. The chicken and mushroom rice dish was good too. It was flavorful. The service was good. All of the ladies behind the counter were friendly and helpful. I think they also understand Spanish. I saw one of them speaking Spanish with one of the customers which I thought was cool. I came to this place because my brother recommended it to me. Once you come in, you see a giant steamer so it's reassuring to know that it's all made in house The highlight here is the shumai. They are BIG and JUICY. Might even be the best shumai I've had in NY. I like how there are options of pork or shrimp. I got the pork because sometimes I can't handle the fishy flavor. The shumai was well seasoned, great chew, nice texture in the outside and moist on the inside. It's basically a complete bite The chive dumplings were solid as well. Air fry them when you get home for the premium experience Spare ribs were average. Nothing too special. Same goes for the chicken feet Tofu skin roll was pretty big compared to other places but the flavor and texture were on point I also like that they sell dimsum items over rice as well. I am really all about the mantou here and sometimes their coffee-milk tea. My mom and my daughter love the mantou too, but the service is atrocious. I do not end up ordering half the time because there is no one taking my order. I am not the type to fight for my order to be heard first. It should not ever even be that way. So I just get fed up and leave after a couple of minutes. Its not like they need my money anyway, right? I do not recommend the noodles. In the back is the actual bakery with buns. I always love their freshly cooked noodles. My husband usually get the pan fried noodles. This time we got a variety to try them out. They have buns obviously, the steamed white ones, the usual golden variety, dim sum, noodles, congee, rice, tea/coffee etc. I recommend the Shu Mai & Pan Fried Dumplings. Both flavorful and tasty. The shrimp roll was too peppery for my taste, I couldn't finish it. Chicken Lo Mein needed another flavor other than oil, hah. The chicken with shiitake mushroom rice was disappointing, very sad looking and tasting dish. I was imagining a hearty, warm, chicken rice dish. Service was difficult, hard to communicate, they can't hear you well and it's hard to ask questions and see what you want. The bakery goods aren't bad, but the staff are atrocious. The line isn't really a line; it's a free for all and the people behind the counter blame you if you're annoyed they completely ignored you for other customers. I've been to a ton of Chinese bakeries and this one isn't even that good to have such terrible service. At least tai pan has great products to offset service. read more

Don't be fooled by the low-maintenance store front and the lack of curb appeal upon entering this bakery. It is steps from the subway and just off a really busy corner so it is easily missed if you don't pay attention to the awning/signage. Growing up in Chinatown, these hole in the wall places were staples for a quick bite and for satisfying cheap eats on the go. They are becoming more and more extinct no matter which borough you venture to - so I am always happy to find these little gems when exploring new neighborhoods. Once inside, you will likely smell all kinds of baked goods in progress or the fresh out of the oven hot food that serves as meal options, which are perfect for express lunches. Unfortunately for me, my timing was bad on this visit as they were already out of the hot food. (It was late, past 6PM). Instead, I was able to pick up some lotus leaf wrapped sticky rice dumplings - very delicious and a bargain priced meal ($2.25). Inside had beans, pork, egg, and Chinese Sausage. It was a complete meal. I also grabbed a variety of buns (roast pork, coconut, and a hot dog bun) and a few egg tarts to go. The buns were the mini's, as were the egg tarts, about half the size of the regulars...but at a bargain price of 3 for $2. Again, totally a good deal. I figured I'd buy them to save for breakfast the next day. Will return, next time earlier! So I can buy the congee, dim sum and sample the rice plates. read more

I love love steamed buns and dumplings here. I ordered both quite a few times and only had it happened 1 time when the dumplings had the meat not cooked completely right(still it wasn't terrible), other times they are delicious. Buns are always phenomenal. Sometimes I get the pre-packaged mini buns from the back and they are also tasty. Can't beat these prices. I'm not sure if there is only 1 lady who speaks a little bit of English but she tends to always be the one that helps me. They get her when I come in and she is very sweet! I love the fact that it's located right off subway station. The only downside is they only take cash. Sometime I want it, but don't have cash on me which sucks, but otherwise a great place for cheap dim sum. read more

I'm surprised that I've never wrote a review about this place. It's my go to when I need a quick breakfast on the run. It's located near the D train at Bay Parkway. They open the door at 7am. Prior to hopping on the train, I pick up my usual spring rolls and fried dumplings. It's cheap and fast. The ladies behind the counter are helpful and quick. There are pictures above the hot food display, hence, if you don't speak the language, you just point. I have the tendency to do just that on a Monday morning at 7:15 am. I put up one finger and point to the sign. They ask me what else, and then in my rusty Cantonese, I ask for one serving of spring rolls. I'm usually out of there under 5 minutes. I recommend you go here when you forget to eat breakfast. I've been known to snack on my spring rolls while waiting for my train on the platform. My mom told me about this place after she remembered that my new (non-Asian) in-laws loved the shrimp variations of dim sum. I don't really know what they have other than these, but the shrimp wrapped in the rice rolls are great for them! You can watch them make it fresh from the window and they pack them and sell them as they're coming off the grill. They typically come in an order of 3 rolls and cost around $3, but this place has them in orders of 4, the shrimp are of a nice size and they are like $2.50! The in-laws were over the moon and made me wish I had gotten them more. My mom also enjoys them and brings them home on the weekends when she goes to that area. Another local Chinese bakery with average coffee and pretty good dai bau (a large steamed bun with egg, sausage, chicken and ??? inside of it). This bakery is small and has limited seating and the staff has limited English but is friendly. I was here last winter and had asked for a takeout menu or business card. I was told at the time that they were too new and would have some soon. When I asked again today about 6 months later, they used the same excuse. Nice spot to grab a quick bite if you're in a rush or lazy to walk elsewhere right off the subway station. They're quick and efficient to serve tho that might mean skimping in other areas like friendliness. The noodles from the front ready food area looked fresh and upon eating can tell it was made that day. Tender noodles (not fresh out of pot) but also not too soggy nor too greasy. Flavor was lacking a bit but the he fun noodles have a tendency to dilute flavors so it is understandable. Low sodium is healthier as well so not a bad thing. Ice tea came out great! Fresh lemon juice and slices with a hint of sweetness to the tea. Not too bitter/sweet/sour. Not a southern ice tea but a solid asian style ice tea and still delicious to sip during a heatwave. My mom frequently buys buns from Golden Bun Bakery to make at home for breakfast. My sister tried their fried pork dumplings before and told me good things about them so I knew I had to try them. The bakery is situated on a high pedestrian and traffic corner. In addition, it is right off of the Bay Parkway Train Station on the D Line. Small bakery and limited seating. Staff is nice and helpful. They have an assortment of buns, baked goods, dim sum, and quick fixes for lunch/snacks which makes it very convenient to pick up. The dumplings were 5 for $1.75 which were darn cheap! It seems they only have one type of dumpling which is the fried pork dumpling. The dumplings were scrumptious! They weren't crispy or crunchy, but somehow they still tasted great. The dumpling skin wasn't too thick which I liked. The filling inside consisted of ground pork, jicama, and chives. Very tasty and flavored well. The jicama gave the dumpling a slight crunch to it. I really liked the fact this bakery is close to my house and the train station. There's many bakeries along 86th street, but this one really stands out from the ones I've tried because of these delectable dumplings. read more

Their hot foods are pretty decent, can't complain about the cheap $2 rice noodles, ho fun, and dumplings. They have dim sum foods as well. I have been their loyal fans since they started since i grew up in the area. I have been spending money there weekly and i have seen their ups and downs. There are good and poor but the main issue i have with them is not sticking to the recipe when making steamed buns. I understand that this is an individually owned bakery so every bakery may be different under the chain name. But that doesn't allow you to skim on ingredients especially on steamed buns. I have gotten their steamed buns from all over their locations (8th ave, Chinatown, and 86th st x2), this location on Bay Parkway is by far the worst when it comes to steamed buns. Just so you know i do get all their other stuff such as noodles, dim sums, congees, drinks, and baked buns. My issue is really their steamed buns. They have been doing this for years. They charge these buns (chicken, chicken veg, lotus seed paste, red beans, etc) the same price as all other locations, but their buns have MUCH LESS ingredients inside. They even have the audacity to raise the price after covid while continuing skimming on the ingredients? That is just rude. As you can see in the picture, i got the same chicken bun, but one is heavier than the other by over 1oz. 1 oz of meat can be up to 7g of protein. That is what they are skimming on folks. I have been buying their buns at all locations weekly and consistently for years and the evident is sound. I have only uploaded these two pictures but if you don't believe me, buy their individual steamed buns from all locations and compare. The best price for ingredients is 8th Ave location, then Chinatown, then 86th st. I have them 2 stars because they do have some nice noodles and rice containers but skimming and cheating aren't just! I even comforted them a few times and the ladies denied my claim. It's just ridiculous. I would only recommend you going for anything else but their steamed selections. read more

I remember coming here as a kid and grabbing breakfast before heading to Chinese school Now, I make this my daily stop before going to school/work. While I've noticed the prices steadily increasing, its still cheaper and more affordable than other places. There's warm buns, hot dishes such as noodles/tea eggs/rice, and congee. The tables could use some cleaning though but for the most part the space is clean. On a busy morning there's 3-4 workers but that decreases to around 2 during the afternoon. Service is quick and efficient, no frills and you're out the door in less than 5 minutes with breakfast/lunch/maybe dinner, for under $20. read more

The buns in this place is a disaster. The bread is frail so it has no texture and everything just collapses as you bite into it. But this time I bought a bag of sticky rice roll for breakfast and the sticky rice tastes like CIGARETTES! Someone must be smoking when they were making it. Well, it's golden "bun" so I gotta order some bao. Their bao were good to enjoy but sometimes it's not that warm to enjoy even though they told me that they steamed it again. First time I had the lotus paste and 2nd time I ordered the pork bun. Pork bun was.. "meh".. but the lotus bun was pretty good. I like the lady that works there. When I first walked into this Chinese bakery, I get hit immediately with a wide array of Chinese breakfast to my right. The aroma of different congee, noodles, buns, dim sum wrapped around me like a warm, fuzzy blanket. Along the wall to your right, you also have a panel of photos of the different dishes with English translation and listed prices. They take care of us Americans good. Walking a few more steps forward, their famous egg cakes "Dahn Go" will hit you like a storm as they come freshly baked out of the oven. Oh they are so soft, fluffy and warm when you immediately try them. Let them sit for a few hours and they are still good! To the back they have their usual breakfast buns. Inexpensive Chinese breakfast with a wide selection. Not a bad way to start your mornings! Of course, their food isn't the healthiest..but it's nice to indulge here every now and then. read more

What I find surprising is that for a place that specializes in buns, any bun I've gotten from them has been mediocre at best. Whatever. The bake and steam buns are OK but if you want dimsum it's better to walk a block down to the actual dimsum restaurant and pay an extra buck. The pan fry dumplings are filled with pork fat and too oily. The ladies that work here are nice but the guy that works the rice roll station is extremely verbally abusive. Asking him a simple question about the rice rolls will get you yelled at. Even the ladies that work there will warn you not to talk to him. read more
