Roasted Turnip with collard greens, apples, einkorn and chillies - beautiful presented, delicious flavour. Baked Spinach and egg with herb toast- warming, hearty, nicely spiced. I could've eaten two of them! Chic pea flour, raspberry, almond pastry - really enjoyed by a celiac customer, excellent! We'll probably be back at least once more before we leave town. *edited to add: we returned three more times for baked goods and for a large take out order. I was shocked by how small Golda is! Unfortunately it is extremely cramped, we were practically sitting on top of the people next to us. The food was great! Have been a number of times and am only now getting around to writing a review. Golda features delicious, made-to-order food with heavy Middle Eastern/Eastern European flair. From the fantastic coffees to the flavorful mains, Golda is the type of place where you can't go wrong with what you order. Just came back from having breakfast with a friend and we both commented on how good our meals were. I had the eggplant menemen (pan-fried? eggplant, crisply egg, saffron yogurt, Jerusalem artichoke chips, etc.) and my friend had the egg sandwich and each was prepared perfectly. The only downside to Golda is the space/layout. Real estate in NYC is obscene, so it's not Golda's fault that the seating is limited, but it's not a comfortable place to sit and no matter which seat you have you feel cramped and slightly uncomfortable...which probably helps ensure quick turnover. That said, the food is the star and the seating is something you can overlook while you devour your food. read more

Food allergy warning! Staff at Golda is ignorant about food allergies. They could not provide list of ingredients in their home made sauce after my son had a first sign of allergy to a signature egg sandwich. We had told them he was allergic to nuts when ordering. They offered no help or interest to our situation. They were too busy serving other customers. Food allergies can be deadly and it is unlawful to not providing info about food you sell. This place has everything you would expect from a new Brooklyn cafe: overpriced coffee, unfortunate combinations of food, and zero standing room. I had the egg sandwich with muhummara which really just tasted like a BEC slathered in spaghetti sauce and nuts. It was gross and now my stomach hurts. Why do something new and stupid when you can just do something classic and perfect it? The patrons are mostly folks who take up the whole sidewalk when they are walking down the street and people who "explore" cafes because they have no personality. This place is wonderful. The food was flavorful and unique. The star of the chicken sandwich was the spicy sauce, which was like a combination of whole grain mustard and Korean spices. I was not expecting the level of spice or flavor, and the onion roll was a perfect, soft vessel. The slaw added texture but didn't do much else for me. The smashed fried potatoes were the perfect crisp level and had a wonderful olive oil/garlic/Mediterranean sauce. Not a super huge place for seating but the food is REALLY good! I got the Trout Egg Sandwich which was really well made. The fish eggs make it feel better than a basic egg sandwich. I also HIGHLY recommend the eggplant plate! I would've ordered two of those if I had the chance. My only note is that bread is hard. Like make my gum bleed hard, but I guess some people like that. My friendly server Alex, recommended the Merguez sandwich it wasn't half bad but it didn't blow me away. It consists of two spicy chicken and beef sausages, onion, peppers, a few fries, and an underwhelming purple aioli. Wish this was a better experience. Went with a friend. We both ordered sandwiches. Her the fried chicken and me the trout sandwich. Both were weird. Hers was hard to eat and came on the tiniest plate. Her egg was also still gelatin and gooey on top. My trout dish was just weird. The bun was too soft to hold the soft insides. The weird sweet spread didn't go with the salty trout roe at all. It needed some texture and maybe some greens. I couldn't finish it. Fortunately the coffee was good. We stopped by here on a warm afternoon and was literally inside for a good 5-10 mins w no staff greeting us and/or asking us if we need a table/how long the wait would be. Staff behind the baked goods bar was just chitchatting away and another staff who brought food to the tables made eye contact but looked away immediately and went back into the kitchen when i walked towards him. This is more of a coffee shop rather than a restaurant. It's pretty small inside so be prepared to be a little squished in if you're planning to sit down and grab a bit to eat. Me and my friend got the breakfast plate which is $12.50. The food wasn't anything special. The best thing about the meal was the potatoes and bread. I rated it 3 stars because of price of the food and lack luster for taste. The coffee isn't anything special either. I can put this on my list of places I won't be returning too. We live just a few doors down from Golda so it's very exciting to see a fun new neighborhood cafe open up. The ambiance is bright and airy, with cool decor that isn't distracting. While it's a small space, it feels comfortable and inviting. Danny recommended the cookie milk latte, the bacon pastry, and the smoked trout egg sandwich. The latte was a sweet, creamy iced coffee that is super addicting and the sandwich was the standout dish, freshly made with high quality ingredients. I like this joint. It's cozy, has a cute interior, the service is fast and friendly, and they make a mean chai latte. I had the fried chicken sandwich, the fried potatoes, and the smoked trout sandwich. All. So. Good. The fried chicken had a delicious and well-seasoned crispy crust that stood up against the purple slaw spectacularly. Every bite was crispy, tart, and juicy. Bravo. I needed a nap after one of those. They're HOOGE. My husband got the smoked trout sandwich, 10/10. Delicate pieces of smoked trout on a bed of fluffy eggs, topped with red caviar. Delectable. Golda is a really cute coffee shop/cafe in our neighborhood. First of all, I'm obsessed with their decor and the coffee. Second, the food was definitely interesting and tasty, and the menu was really intriguing/different. I think I want to try some more stuff next time we head over there. The only other thing My latte was perfect and they had decaf, which is always a plus. The espresso had a nice blueberry flavor to it, which I loved! My boyfriend got the cold brew or iced coffee and it was flavorful and strong. For food, my boyfriend ordered the chicken sandwich and I got the spinach and yam moussaka. We also ordered a side of potatoes to share. The chicken sandwich was a fried chicken breast with a crispy, almost tempura-like batter. The chicken was sliightly over-fried but, overall, the sandwich was good. My boyfriend said he'd order it again, but it isn't necessarily the first thing he'd think of when he's craving a chicken sandwich. The purple cabbage slaw and the sauces were both was good, too, but the sandwich could've used a bit more of both. As for the spinach and yam moussaka, it came out piping hot on a small skillet. Whole but not overly huge purple yams and spinach were topped with bechamel and pine nuts. I could've used more bechamel, but that's because it's hard for me personally to eat dry food. The bechamel was very tasty, for sure. The purple yams were the surprise element in this dish - I guess I hadn't ever had a whole purple yam or maybe I've actually never had a purple yam and I'm thinking of purple potatoes. But, can I say WOW. The purple yams were extremely floral and they were cooked really perfectly - not hard but still maintaining a bite (read: they weren't mushy). It made this vegetarian dish feel more filling, for sure. The egg on top was also great because you get the runny yolk to coat the yams and spinach. Anyway, it was very good but I'd like to see it with a bit more sauce. The potatoes were absolute perfection and they could possibly be the best version of home fries that I've ever had in my life. My boyfriend and I had just been talking about how we haven't actually ever had perfect, well-executed home fries. Like crispy-on-the-outside-soft-on-the-inside home fries with a great dusting of seasoning. Well that's all changed because the fried potatoes here at Golda were literal perfection. Please, go eat them. Right now. A note on seating: they have a few small tables and a few "bar seating" spots as well as three chairs at a counter at the window. It was REAL packed and not a ton of room all in all with lots of people waiting for seating or leaving because there was no seating. A lot of the table seating was taken the entire time we were there. We got lucky to nab a couple seats at the window but I could see it being frustrating if we were really in the mood for some Golda bites and couldn't get a seat. In any case, I'm excited to go back here and try the smoked trout sammie and a bunch of other items on their menu. Not sure if they were having a bad day, but the service was very dismissive and seemed annoyed by any type of interaction. I ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich and Yuzu vodka drink, my total came out to $35 before tip. Ok, that's fine if it were a banging sandwich and not a McDonald's size chicken sandwich with no sides and just... not good. I didn't finish despite my hunger because it just tasted like a lot of crunch dumped with seasoning. My vegan friend got the tabbouli salad -- which she also felt was lacking and overpriced. I'm all about the Israeli food trend and Golda has some great stuff. Came for brunch on a Sunday morning. The biggest standouts were the baked goods - there were lots of fun flavor combinations and they continued to add new things to the bakery area during our time there. We also had breakfast sandwiches (classic and salmon) as well as brunch plates - everything was tasty and came out relatively quickly. Would be five stars except that the space is cramped and the self-seating situation isn't ideal. Would be best on a warm day when you can eat outside or a weekday when you don't feel rushed out by the crowds. read more

Love this spot! I come here for coffee a couple of times a week. The customer service has been great for a new place. Their pastries are always changing and always UNIQUE. I've had the fried chicken sandwich a bunch of times and now recommend it to others as a filling lunch. I've never had anything quite like it. Also got the kale muffin for a dessert. All were really good. Really heavily exceeded my expectations, especially for a small cafe. My only gripe with this place would be it was a bit expensive for what it was. 45 dollars for two dishes, a coffee and a muffin is a bit out of price range for that amount of food. I'm in love! Walked in here without any expectations, and was blown away by the quality and taste of the food. Had the eggplant Menemen for lunch, and wanted to lick the plate! All of the flavors were so clear and distinct; there must have been 4-5 in that one dish. Then tried a unique, very gourmet sweet roll with anise and buckwheat. It was SO good, and not too sweet. Again, it had so many flavors going. All of the baked goods looked amazing. Can't wait to go back to try more.
