But here I need to share my experience about how bad the service and the general upkeep of this fine café in Valleyfair mall has become. The owner has completely given up on this specific store (their Cocola store across the street in Santanarow is still pretty good). We have been going to this café in valley fair mall since early 2000, dropping by almost every time we are in Valleyfair to have pastries and especially the chicken Olivier Sandwich (a favorite of my wife's.) Both my wife and I think the Olivier Sandwich in this store is fantastic. But during the last few months we have noticed that the general upkeep of the store has gone bad and things are not as clean and composed as they used to be. The display refrigerator glass that pastries reside behind of are dirty and full of fingerprints. The shelves holding the pastries are full of crumbs and just generally dirty and unattended to. Other items are scattered all over the place instead of being nicely displayed in an array. This shows the manager on duty is not fit to manage a business like this where displaying attractive pastries in a clean attractive showcase makes the individual buyer crave and purchase them. The crew that they are hiring seem to be changing every time we are there, so there is a lot of turnover and problems with the juniority of the servers ( mostly untrained ). One time about a year ago, the server warmed up the Olivier Sandwich all together which is a big no no. Three weeks ago, my wife and i again reluctantly dropped by and ordered two Olivia sandwiches to go. We usually eat there at this time we had to rush home so we got the sandwiches to go. Mind these are the only sandwiches that we have ever bought in this store. We arrive home and open the bag to find two potato salad or a tuna mix sandwiches. (Definitely not Olivier sandwich.) We tried calling the place, but no phone numbers. OK, we will talk to the manager next time. We are there to at least let them know that they made a big mistake in our order. This past weekend we were and then, as I was ordering one sandwich, I asked to talk to the manager, and the manager came out from the Kitchen area. I explained to her, and I showed the date on my picture of the sandwich that I had taken, and she immediately said "oh it is more than 30 days and there's nothing I can do about it. " I told her I didn't expect her to do anything about it. I definitely didn't want a free replacement or anything. I was just letting her know it was a big mistake made and I order and that I could not get a hold of anybody through phone call or anything so I'm just letting her know. Again, she insisted right away that there is nothing I can do. It's more than 30 days ago and then I showed her the date that was only 21 days ago and not 30 days. She said well a long time either way and she told me that if she finds a problem, but something that she has to spend money on that, she goes the next day to take care of it. anyway she did not understand that I was not there to get a free sandwich and I was only letting her know about the abysmal service that I have received. For $7.99 + tax (ca$h only), you get a ticket to redeem one bowl of freshly piping hot ramen. In the back of the right corner of the supermarket is the rest of the fair, ranging from fresh seafood/whole fish from Hokkaido, refrigerated desserts/cream puffs/caramel candy from the city of Otaru, a booth that sells assorted snackeries from shiokara to marinated fish. Later I decided to go back to the croquettes booth section, and one silly security guard was following me around thinking that I was not going to pay for the food I picked up. I kindly asked the serving lady to make me another order of the croquettes because I had already eaten everything, and I showed her my basket with empty containers. The security guard laughed and then left me alone. At the checkout register the bagging lady was chuckling because I was paying for empty containers (I had already devoured half of what I was buying).
