Recently visited this place and here is my Real honest review. I'll be comparing this to 2 buffets 1. Tomis buffet in San Jose and 2. The other buffet place on the other side of the freeway. Please be open minded when you come to this place, if you're already set to Tomis standard you will be disappointed but if you compare it to other buffet places u will kinda enjoy this spot. -price 2/5 = I'm not gonna blame yall for comparing it to Tomis bcoz of the price. But it's 30-45 mins away from here so if you have that time just go Tomis. And for the owner if you will stick with this price range you need to increase the food selection since Tomis have 2x almost 3x your food choices here. -ambiance and employee 5/5 = since it's new everything is nice looking and working properly. Music was good (they even have it in the restrooms) servers are super polite and greets with a smile. I must say this is the only thing that you beat Tomis over -food selection 3/5 = with the price I would actually rate it 2/5 but since they have different things which is actually good concept like the Mongolian and pho freshly made when you order I added another point. I'm pretty sure you can think of something else with those equipment to serve more food selection without breaking the bank or your inventory -food taste 2.5/5 I was kinda expecting it should be better taste since they have fewer selection but turn out it's subpar. Tomis still have better taste but better than the other buffet across the highway My conclusion it's either put the price down or add more selection of food. There was a $3.49 service fee on my bill that I questioned. It was clearly a tip but the cashier said it was the way that things were made even or something similar. If you're just into quantity, don't mind poor food quality and being over charged to boot, this is your place. If you want hot food ( not room temperature) go for the Mongolian bbq or Pho. The food here has little flavor and is only warm at best. Dessert bar is a joke fruit and chocolate, vanilla or strawberry "FLAVORED" ice cream. The place is clean and has a good vibe initially. Then you go to pay. Four people came out to about $34 a person which includes a mandatory service fee of 14%. Now, I don't mind paying this when the food merits it but unfortunately it does not. Tomi sushi and buffet in San Jose charges this and there is a wide array of food selection. You have to pay extra for unlimited drinks and they don't have hot tea. Several times the food ran out at some stations and it took a bit to replenish. The sushi rolls are the size of a quarter, only a three options that I saw and honestly not the best tasting either. Asian buffets are known for their seafood variety and unfortunately there were few options. Where are the crab legs! We did see pictures of crayfish and crab vía google but we did not see them when we visited. Saturday evening. They have a decent mangolian station as well as a pho station, but not pho spoons. They do serve a good prime rib, but no steak knives to cut it with. Had to use their butter knives and they ran out of spoons! Also, there's random clubbing music playing in the speakers. There are no sauces at the Mongolian bbq station, those that a manning the station have no clue how process works. My husband brought up his plate of noodles/veggies and plate of meat .... And came back confused with a plate of cooked meat and a plate of noodles and veggies. Since its the fist time at this buffet I got a little bit of each cuisine offered and the best thing on my plate was the plantains and fries. The sushi all have the same mayo imitation crab with avocado filling. The beef n broccoli and the mongolian beef both tasted the same, pepper and oil. The grilled chicken was tough, dry but also had this stringy fat that surprise gushed in your mouth. The soda fountain was flat and you have to pay extra for this?! The selection for mongolian bbq was good, the gohan sauce is delicious. The broth for their pho was properly made with a huge amount of flavor. Generous portions of rib if desired. The Chinese and Japanese offerings were smaller scaler but had variety to keep the palate happy. There were also pizza and fries for any picky kids who might be there. As one of the most newest faces to Gilroy, Gohan had quite the expectations to meet. I'm sad to say that it undershot the mark, but the difference is nothing that can't be fixed in my opinion. The food was a mixed bag, over seasoned and rushed in most places. The actual quality of the ingredients present were good, but the cook and seasoning on most were, under developed in my opinion. This may be result of the many new staff joining their team as I was able to overhear trainers instructing their trainees in the kitchen. I assume as time goes on, the kitchen staff too will grow. Regarding selection, it's small for a buffet that is to say, 2-3 plates worth of variety if you organize your plate right. Regarding the non-food aspects of Gohan, however, things were very nice with few exceptions. We were sat quickly and kindly, the restrooms were clean and organized, and seats were very comfortable and spacious. The service of the floor staff was excellent, quick, kind, and efficient. The shortcomings in this regard were the utensils and floor as both were clean at a glance, but weren't once looked into. Which is ironic as, once you go to the restrooms, the cleaning staff's equipment and products are easily visible causing an unpleasant bleach-like smell to permeate the hallway. Overall Gohan has the potential of becoming a real pillar in the food scene of Gilroy, not to mention its proximity to the outlets. But in its current state, first out the gates, it leaves much to be desired. But regardless of what I've said, and for the time being, my hope are up as this will be my hometown buffet. read more

First time trying this restaurant and was really excited based off of there was the potential variety and options of food to choose from. Buyer beware! Breaded seafood was overly breaded and gummy at best.- calamari and scallops. There were no salads whatsoever to choose from so I thought I'll go to the soup station where I found a very thick, hot and sour soup with a gravy consistency. It was thicker than cough syrup. Limited sushi available. carving station had a pretty rare prime rib on it that had a dark outside crust that looked like it had survived a Gulf War. Ate some shrimp that looked like it was seasoned to perfection, yet looks were definitely deceiving - tasted like nothing. So I head to their mini dessert station where I find a little pink cup that looks like mousse, but it's actually Cool Whip with strawberry flavoring. My experience was ok the whole decor is nice but the food was ok if I had to rate it it would be a 2 out of 10. First off we went in told them it's a party of 4 but the fourth person is on there way and they tell me we have to wait to seat u guys until everyone is here and I told the gentlemen that works there , it's just one person and they said even though so we sat down waiting so finally all of our party was here we paid first then sat down.
