I walked to this restaurant from downtown and was greeted by Theresa who was a fairly new employee and also a native German (this added some authentic charm to the visit!). This restaurant is housed in a old but lively house on the hill. I came on a Monday night and it was fairly empty. One thing that I would suggest to the owner is to have some music playing as to to add some ambience. I ordered an Oktoberfest beer, which was served in a German dimpled glass stein. For dinner I had the schnitzel on brioche with a side of German potato salad and also a pickle bowl. The schnitzel was excellent, can't say enough good about it! The German potato salad was the best I have ever had. The pickle bowl, well that was just simply pickles, which were good, but didn't match the description of pickles AND pickled red onions. For ambiance alone, the Goat Haus Biergarten deserves five stars. I guess I would compare the experience to having a beer in the house from the old movie classic "Psycho." The Goat Haus Biergarten is located around the downtown Montgomery, Alabama area and the service has always been great and they have a great selection of beer. A quaint and unique gem in the area! We stopped here with friends for a couple drinks and small plates. The food didn't disappoint as we had the Schnitzel and soft pretzel.", both of which were delicious and not too overpriced. The drinks were cold and large. Went with three others last night. After looking at the website we thought there would be a good selection of foods to go with the beers. Well...we were wrong. The food menu had been reduced to just 5 items...one of which was a fruit bowl, and another they were simply out of. Not much of a dinner location. Flip the menu over and you get the beers. Looking at the on tap portion we once again found items that they were out of. From approximately 7 beers on tap, at least three they simply did not have. Our waitress saw our reaction to their menu, and simply stated "we are just going through some stuff." Not sure how long this stuff will take them to go through, but in the meantime, I'd recommend just going somewhere else. read more

As I ran up North and away from Hurricane Irma, we decided to head to Montgomery, Alabama. After searching on Air bnb, we found this gorgeous Victorian era home, but my favorite part was the Goat Haus Biergarten on the first floor. You mean to tell me, not only did we find this creepy and breathtaking house to stay in for the night, BUT it also includes a craft beer garden just a few steps from my bedroom? I thought maybe I walked into heaven. I hadn't even arrived yet and I already didn't want to leave. Our host, owner, and beertender (the man does it all), was absolutely incredible and made us feel right at home. The second we walked in we had 2 cold IPA's waiting for us. They have a great beer selection and it's got a great view of downtown Montgomery. If you walk right next door, the same owner has a gallery which you're welcome to visit and even purchase some art for sale. Great place, great people, great atmosphere... We were looking for a place to grab a craft beer and possibly supper and chat. The beer options were very limited and they were "out" of the local draft ones we wanted to try, forcing us to do other bottled domestic options. Ramen was the dinner special that sounded delicious, but they weren't starting serving it until 7 pm (which seemed very strange) and we didn't want to wait over an hour. We did the 3 for $25 app option (or $9 each) and got 2 pretzels with beer cheese and the naan/hummus plate. They were absolutely delicious but priced at $9 each, I would have expected more than a single pretzel. The hummus was in a small 2 oz tub (but seasoned amazing!) with approximately 8 strips of naan about 4 inches long and an inch wide. The service was prompt and friendly albeit uninformed as to the beer offerings and types. We rate it a unique locale and good flavors but a one and done place due to the prices and offerings. read more

The house is cool, I could see it used as a nice small event venue, but I would not recommend coming here for restaurant service. For what you pay at any other restaurant, you can get simple picnic style foods made with store bought ingredients and little to no seasoning. The kitchen appeared to be a countertop lined with crock pots, with no oven or stove or smells of cooking food. The avocado toast was one thin slice of dry store bought sandwich bread served with some mashed avocado, and a fried egg with a couple pieces of spinach on the side for $9 and honestly, what you can make at home has more potential. The person behind us also ordered avo toast and was told there was no more bread. The drinks are served in to-go cups, and the seating is mostly plastic picnic tables. I'm confused about the reviews. The building and the lot are beautiful. Old Victorian home - gorgeous floors and so much potential with this space. Honestly feels like someone had a great idea and let it die. Not a traditional Biergarten like it states in the website - there is a yard with seating though and you have a great view of the city. Drinks were overpriced and came in to go cups. Food was something I could've made better at home - still ok though and left with a full belly. Wouldn't come back unless I was just grabbing a beer and sitting in the back. Friendly staff. Come with low expectations and you might not be disappointed. read more

I guess I was lucky to this spot. But if your superstitious, you'll say the spot found me. Located directly on the main strip of Downtown Montgomery is this priceless gem. Craft beer is not their only forte, they also make a mean GoatMosa. As you walk inside, perhaps you'll marvel at the wallpaper as I did. The house was built in 1888 which makes it a whopping 100 years older than me. The beer is on the first floor and you can order lite bites as well. They also have a few rooms upstairs for rent in a bed and breakfast type of setting. Right outside, you can drink your craft brew and sit on the tables to soak in all that Montgomery has in store for you. The owner James is extremely hospitable and will make you feel like you're at home. If you take a tour of the property, you can just feel the history soaked into those walls. There's not a lot of places that strike me in such a manner. Please take a look at the art gallery next door, you'll be glad you did. Everything about this magical place was a total hit. If I'm ever in Montgomery again, I know this place must be the first and last stop while in town. Totally impressed this Miami princess over here so if you can take good advice from someone who has great taste, make sure you pay them a visit. read more

Great little neighborhood bar for Cottage Hill! I've been here a few times and although small, the bar has a welcoming atmosphere, the owner is very nice, and when the weather is nice it's fabulous to sit outside and look at the beautiful views over downtown Montgomery. The only thing I wish is that they more consistently had a better wine selection: sometimes I've gone and had good wines and other times it's those cheaper smaller bottles that aren't very high quality. If you like beer, though, there's a great selection. They're only serving wine and beer so I wish there was more of a selection for us non beer drinkers. Check this place out! read more

Meh. Grain of salt: Had I been able to find a menu online, we probably would not have chosen to eat here. There was nothing wrong with the completely average food we ordered. It reminded me of things i probably would have made for friends on College. That said, after an hour wait, in a cacophonous space, for food easily prepared completely from scratch in 10-15 minutes, I am pretty sure I will not return if I find myself in the area again. What a view!!! Capitol Building at night. The abbreviated menu was well done for the price. We had the bratwurst and the smoked sausage both were good but the mustard. That was fantastic and we decided to have a pretzel too with the mustard and it comes with an awesome beer cheese that we likewise enjoyed with good selection of craft beer - we had selections from Oyster City in Apalachicola- the brown and mangrove. I absolutely love Goat Haus and try to stop in every time we're in Montgomery. They have a fabulous beer selection, super friendly people, and a really cool vibe. We've gotten food twice here before (over the span of our three visits) - they take a while with the food (hence 4/5 stars), but the food is solid. I especially enjoyed the pretzel.
