Hot and Sour Soup
Will M.

Came here the other day with some coworkers. They have different lunch specials every day. I ordered the Mongolian pork which came with rice, an egg roll, and soup. The food came out quickly and everything was freshly cooked. The flavor leaned sweet and salty and was pretty sauce heavy, so the rice definitely helped balance it out. Overall it was solid for a quick lunch. I'd say the quality is a little better than Panda Express and it's definitely geared more toward a Western palate. Good option if you're in the area and need something quick.

Consistency and yummy food are the reasons we keep coming back. It's one of our go-to spots for work lunches. We usually order their lunch specials or fried rice, and the taste has consistently been delicious, along with the service being great. Don't forget to say hi to Tommy, he's the best!

We Celebrated our son's Graduation Party at Go China. We can't say enough about the Delicious food, Awesome Staff and Great Service. Our Son and Guests Loved Everything on the menu. I'm Happy to say, Everyone left Stuffed and with Smiles on their faces Thank you Again, John & Joanna Totally Recommend having Any Special Event Here.

regular soy sauce usually does not have these preservatives. it'd be really nice if the restaurant offered this for people with allergies.

I want the people that work there to know that the regular soy sauce would be great for people like me that can't handle preservatives. But instead I was told they only have the low sodium with the preservative, and that I should just understand that "today all food has preservatives" and since I'm allergic to them that's not really a great message thanks. I guess I should just eat meat, vegetables, carrots and celery LOL lol not very understanding! Clean food is great food. And she's wrong -- it's not quite as hard to find as she thinks. How simple it would be to just offer a regular soy sauce instead of low salt for someone with an allergy

2/01/2025: Our first visit to this charming, unassuming local Mandarin & Szechuan restaurant in Pasadena, and it will definitely not be our last. First, let me start by saying how we chose this restaurant for our dinner. We don't currently live in the area, however my husband was born and raised in Altadena and still owns the family home. Today was our first opportunity to come and see the home and surrounding neighborhoods after the Eaton fire. Absolutely heartbreaking, but hopefully everyone will be able to rebuild and remain #AltadenaStrong . I did some research to find a local restaurant to patronize and support while in the area, and saw a post from someone who said that the owners of GoChina had been generously supporting the local fire victims and first responders. GoChina drove up to a road closure at Lake & New York with prepared, packaged hot meals and gave them to be passed out to any and all who were behind the closure lines... they rolled up their sleeves and did the very best thing they could do to help the community, and I encourage everyone to reciprocate and patronize them in return!! They have a fantastic menu, this isn't a "basic Chinese joint". We honestly didn't know what to expect, but we were greeted so warmly by owner Joanna (I hope I'm spelling it correctly?) and seated. The restaurant is immaculate. The tables, chairs and booths are clean. The decor is simple, but nice and creates great ambiance. The cashier station looks like a warm and friendly bar, and they do have beer and wine options available. Between Joanna and Yenni, our orders were taken and our food was brought to the table with minimal wait time. These ladies were both SO friendly and engaging, even though they were busy. They have hustle! I saw no less than 10 bags lined up for take out orders being staged whenever the kitchen doors swung open. They introduced themselves and asked us our names. How often to you experience that these days? Tommy was also very friendly and came to check on us throughout the meal and thanked us for our patronage as we left. Now for the food review... deeelicious! We started with their "Signature" Indonesian Fried Rice. Well seasoned and has just a whisper of heat. I'm not always a big fried rice person because it can be bland, but this was exceptional! Each protein was cooked perfectly and were moist bites.. no diced meat nuggets like you find at some places. We recommend it! Their Combination Chow Fun was savory, the wide noodles were delightfully chewy, again the proteins were plentiful and cooked properly.. not a basic brown sauce, there is a depth of flavor that must come from the Indonesian influences.. I'd order this dish again, too! From the Chef's Special menu, the Shrimp with Pepper and Salt were calling to us, and we answered! Many may know this as "shrimp with spicy salt" at other establishments, but uniquely this one is prepared without the shells or tail which my husband preferred. I don't hate having the flavor and textures from the shells and tail, but the hubs says this was the best S&P Shrimp he has ever had! Not greasy/oily, nicely crisp and not at all overcooked. We'd have this again too! We notice the menu also has the same seasoning for pork and want to try that dish, too! The food is excellent, the service was impeccable and the business owners and employees have heart. The portions are generous, the prices are reasonable.. what else could you ask for? I hope that those who have never tried GoChina on Lake Avenue previously will patronize them now. These locals deserve the love from their community! Please thank them for their kindness, and tell them that first timers Carol & Don sent you

Went there for our church gathering about 50 people with kids, they are so nice! The food was very fast, we didn't wait that long for this big of a party. We ordered the fried rice, fried noodle, orange beef (the best!), Kung Pao chicken, walnut shrimp (crunchy and tasty), Chinese broccoli (very soft yummy!), pork chop (delicious!) We enjoyed it very much, I'd recommend this place to anyone whether small/large family gathering, office events, or just regular hang out. Check it out

If you love great Chinese food Go China is the place for you and if you need catering they are great. I placed a catering order for our geology department at Caltech this past Thursday. I ordered for 20 people. I ordered egg rolls, orange chicken, broccoli and beef & vegetable chow fun. I called in the order on Tuesday and told them I'd be there at 11:15 am to pick up the order. When I arrived Tommy had all the food ready on a push cart. He was nice enough to tell me that he left the egg rolls, that were wrapped in foil, open a bit so they wouldn't get soggy. I have been happily been eating at Go China for myself since 2006 and have been placing Caltech catering orders since about 2012. I and Caltech have never been disappointed in the quality of their food. It turned out that the about 30 people ended up at the faculty lunch talk and there was still a lot of leftovers. After the talk the students happily ate the leftovers, as did I. The beef, in the broccoli and beef, is outstanding, flavorful and extremely tender. The egg rolls were crispy and crunchy thanks to the foil being pulled back. Their orange chicken is one of the best I ever eaten and the vegetable chow fun was a big hit. Thanks Tommy for all these years of great service and great food. I look forward to many more visits.

Food comes piping hot and the noodles stay fresh and not bunched together. I have ordered their tomato and egg knife noodle soup twice because I love sweet and savory flavors. The egg portion is generous and the soup is thick and hearty. (A+) Their beef noodle soup is excellent as well-packed with lots of flavor and ingredients. Great for hot or cold nights! (A) Their lamb skewers were flavorful but a little on the tougher side. I had lamb skewers that melt in your mouth before and this didn't quite measure up. Perhaps it was sitting in the foil too long? Could be a delivery issue. You probably have to have it straight out of the kitchen. (B+) Will definitely be returning to try all their other items. Of course, I went in because I already know the quality of their food. I always find their noodles fresh and chewy, and the dishes are rich in texture and flavor. But this time, since I was by myself, I didn't order a noodle dish because I was just by myself. So, I ordered the beef roll, which is also to die for! Just really enjoy their food overall. If you've never tried Noodle Street before, definitely check out their menu and give their noodles a try. This particular location was clean, the staff was nice, and the wait wasn't long when I arrived. I would definitely come back again! I'd like to add one more detail. While I was waiting for my food, one of the staff members, possibly the manager, Justin, came over and asked if I'd like to have a small bowl of broth on the side. I said yes and was impressed by that offer. Why? This young man understood that I had ordered only the beef roll, which is a dry dish. Having a little warm broth on the side made it much easier and more enjoyable to eat. I had water, though, but I personally never drink water before or after my meal, so the broth was definitely a perfect complement to the beef roll. This is the first time in my Noodle Street eating history that I've been offered something simple to enhance my dining experience. A small gesture that I think is worth mentioning, as it showed that he was attentive and had very good common sense when it comes to customer service. Thumbs up to him, and an extra star from me for this location.

I totally forgot about parking and the one way streets so I had to do a lap just to find a parking structure that was right across the street from the restaurant. When I arrived I was not expecting the restaurant to look as nice and clean as it did. I thought it was going to be a small hole-in-the-wall type of joint but it's actually a very nice restaurant. There was a lot of space and a lot of seating. Once we decided on on what we wanted we decided to do family style and ordered, shrimp and pork shumai, pork dumplings, spicy pork wontons and kung pao shrimp. I decided to go with the passion fruit tea with half sweetener but I probably should have went with 75%. It was still pretty good but could have been better. I loved the pork dumplings and the kung pao shrimp the best. The service was quick, fast and effective. Anytime we needed something, they were right there to provide, sauces, water and silverware when needed. They also start you out with peanuts and hot tea for the table and I thought that was cool. Overall, it was pretty good! I still have my favorite dumpling spots and I've definitely had better sumai but it wasn't bad. I would go back again but I would also check to see if there was something better if ever in the area. OOOO 4 out of 5 Afros

Bowls of steamed rice cost $2.50, and we each got one. Portions are generously large and worth the cost; we took leftovers home. The tea offered to us tasted good. The slippery shrimp had a nice crisp with a pleasant blend of sweet, tangy, and spicy flavors. There's a slight spice from the red chili that felt mild on my tongue. This was our first time trying out the dish, and we liked it the most. The orange chicken tasted solid, and it had a slightly crispy texture. For some reason, the rice had an aftertaste I wasn't familiar with, but it was still fresh. There was a fortune cookie at the end of our meal. I'd come back for the slippery shrimp and order something other than the orange chicken. The restaurant opened at 11:30 am, and we were one of the first customers to dine in. The ambience was quiet and relaxed, but they got busier as many more people arrived. Service was good as the staff packed our leftovers in containers for us. If you're a fan of bold, authentic flavors and reliable service, this spot is definitely worth visiting. Tip - If you're new to the cuisine, I strongly recommend getting everything MILD spicy. I've been told by some of my colleagues that MILD spicy is still pretty spicy, so be warned. With that said, strongly recommend the dishes below. Lamb with Cumin 11/10 - My favorite dish here by far. The Sichuan Boiled Blackfish is delicious if you can share with a friend. Be warned --- also very spicy. The fish is so tender and I found myself sipping the addicting lava broth. It hurt so good. I would not order the Dan Dan Noodles or Diced Chicken with Spicy Chilies again. I felt like there wasn't enough chicken and the dan dan noodles had a weird musty flavor that I didn't resonate with. I prefer the Taiwanese version a little more. My last words, be careful with your spice tolerance. Leave your pride at the door and go a or two notch lower. I had stomach cramps afterwards.
