    Dongbei braised spare ribs
    Della S.

I came here based on a recommendation from someone who grew up in Northeastern China. Although I've never had much Northeastern Chinese food myself, I was curious to try the various dishes they have to offer! 4 of us split the house-style liangpi ($13.95), paradise garden ($15.95), Dongbei braised spare ribs ($17.95), braised eggplant with fried pork ($16.95), foil beef ($17.95), and a large bowl of rice ($7.25). I highly recommend trying the above selection of dishes if you've never had Northeastern Chinese food before, because each of those dishes had their own unique flavor and texture profile. The liangpi had a tangy, nutty sesame sauce which was cold and refreshing with the chewy noodles. The noodles came with lots of sliced cucumber which added to the freshness of the dish. I couldn't stop eating it! The paradise garden was unlike anything I've had before-- a mixture of fresh, thinly sliced vegetables, shrimp, and tripe came swimming in a dark-colored cold broth that wasn't heavily salted. Each component in the dish was fresh but I can't say I was the biggest fan of this one, mostly because I was unfamiliar with the dish and didn't know what to expect. The Dongbei braised spare ribs were so tender that they fell off the bone. The meat was extremely flavorful and had a good balance between leaner and fattier bits. The braised eggplant with fried pork had a Chinese American vibe to it because there was so much breading and a sweet-and-sour sauce. The eggplant was super tender, although I barely tasted any pork in the dish. The foil beef was soft, tender, and had a pleasant peppery flavor to it! The beef was swimming in a delicious sauce that paired perfectly with rice. Overall, I was very impressed by the various ways they've prepared meat. I would definitely come back for the liangpi and to try their other dishes!

Very interesting interior decor that will make you feel like you are in commercial mainland china. The diverse food will give you that feeling as well! The dry pot and stews are good as well as the chicken skewers. I would avoid the squid skewers as they had a funky flavor.

Great food. Decent service. The only place in the area where you'll find this type of food from this specific region in China.

Authentic Northeastern Chinese dishes! Although they changed their seating layout the last time I came by here and the menu was updated, Go Chi is still hitting strong with the indoor vibe! Walking distance from the Malden T station, depending on how lively and busy the place is on any given night, you may need to wait a bit but won't be disappointed with the dishes on seated and served. The Dongbei braised short ribs were gigantic and just falling off the bone and even though they give you plastic gloves, it's up to you if you wanna get down and dirty with the deliciousness. Something new was the baked pumpkin caked in salted egg yolk which was surprisingly addictive that you just might wanna order a second to go. This is a place you need to frequent more!

This place beings authentic northern Chinese cuisine to Malden! I really enjoyed my meal here, although a bit pricey. We got the hot pot skewers (assorted but we had to have a min of 15 skewers), Mao's Braised Pork with Brown Sauce, and Beef Stew Noodle Soup. The flavors were definitely there - and I enjoyed it so much. Especially the Braised Pork! In my prior experience, I've almost always came across braised pork that was a bit too sweet, but the flavor here was perfect. Also have to note, when this place says "spicy", they definitely mean SPICY. But, spicy in an extremely flavorful, numbing way. The only thing I would say would be that the front desk service could be a bit better - we waited for a few minutes confused, wondering if we were supposed to sit ourselves because nobody was there until someone noticed us. But, our waiter was super friendly and helpful!

Very easy going restaurant. The food is delicious and authentic. The set dish with rice is great for deal and a quick bite!

Good portions of authentic food for a decent price! we got a clam foil, lamb skewers, and duck blood (i think), as well as the ribs and the cabbage soup. The service was a bit slow and the food took a while to came out, but it was a right amount of spice and extremely flavorful! Get the ribs and the sour cabbage soup. There are plenty of young mandarin people eating here when we went at 2pm on a Sunday. Highly recommend if you are ever in Malden!

Sat here for 15mins. Only 4 tables were in this restaurant. No body asked us for drink or gave us the menu. Worst service ever in the U.S.

I recommend going during their "Happy hour" times that is $19.99/pp as its much more worth it for that price. THE UNLIMITED PASSIONFRUIT GREEN TEA IS THE BEST PART! :) We tried all their meats on the menu and it's pretty decent quality, some of the chicken/pork with marinade is a little mushy in hot pot, but overall was good especially their sliced meats. The self serve vegetables/noodles/seafood was actually one of the best parts!! They have so many options- from bok choy to ramen noodles to shrimp to every fish cake ever, it was such a wide range of sides that is enough for practically anyone. They also have fresh rice in a rice cooker and some hot sides like spring rolls and these delicious red bean sesame balls. They're all fresh, and stored in the right temps. I loved having the unlimited soft drinks and passfruit green tea. It was such a great vibe inside and everyone was chatting away. Parking is easier along the side roads, don't waste your time on the main road. Definitely will be back or visiting one of their other locations as well.

We were eventually seated and then they intentionally waited until "two minutes after 5pm" to take our order and happy hour was no longer available. Not that big of deal, but very annoying. We also had to flag people down for help as they weren't coming by on their own. Thankfully the food was good and we had a decent meal after that.

Thank God they did that because that broth was the most spicy broth I have ever had in my entire life. They knew. I loved it but could barely take it. My friend ended up in tears and they gave her free milk. We should have listened when they said it's really spicy and I thought that was what I was looking for but this was on another level. Thai ice tea - not overly sweet light and creamy after you mix it. Green Thai iced tea - more tea flavor shown thru this version i enjoyed this too! Larb chicken - amazing dish i really liked it, only comment would be maybe the minced protein toss some bigger diced chunks in too to soak up that cr*ck sauce! Basil chicken fried rice - spicy good flavor overall and chicken was plenty. I sort of was hoping they would have the signature like basil spice "glaze/sauce" they could do like other spots for basil dishes but they did not. It's good how it is though but if i was to get crispy chicken - def would need a sauce for my taste anyways. Red curry with salmon creamy extra spicy (you can choose spice level) salmon was cooked well in here and the flavor broth went so well soaked in the white rice! Bbq pork skewers - like your friends bbq where their folks went all out. Shoot perfect drinking food. Nampla chicken wings- really good fish sauce base wings! As a viet i love this style chicken wing. Glad we went with these over the fried batter version! Free shrimp crackers while you wait. Crying Tiger and their other sister shops all do well i feel. I highly recommend this place if you like spicy. I requested for extra spicy for the red curry with salmon & I was pleasantly surprised that it tasted actually spicy! Many Thai spots I've gone to tend to not deliver the level of spicy I'm looking for, so I'm happy I was able to get it here. Salmon was cooked perfectly & the curry was delicious. We loved the basil fried rice with chicken also. Flavorful & had a nice kick. Chicken was not dry either! The chicken laarb was addictive to eat. It had the right amount of citrus & spice. Generous portion too! Nampla wings reminded me of nuoc mam/Vietnamese fish sauce wings. I personally found the wings to be a bit dry but the sauce it came with really helped. Good flavor though. Lastly, both the Green iced Thai tea & regular iced Thai tea were solid. Not the best but still good. I'm a big fan of Green iced Thai tea & not many places offer this. I always make sure to order it wherever and whenever I can find it! Overall, I'm so glad we were able to stop in for dinner at the Crying Thaiger. Their food is tasty & I recommend this spot to anyone who enjoys yummy Thai food & likes spicy! I would definitely come back again ;) Parking: street parking
