The basement was a walkout so all that ugly foundation was exposed. Vincent came out and recommended stucco and showed me some examples. It was the ideal solution. He was also down the street doing the same thing to a neighbors house. When his team came out to do it they were incredible! Everything was organized and planned out meticulously. First a couple people came to prep everything. The next day the whole squad was there and they worked like an army. Everyone was mixing and applying stucco very precisely working together to cover the whole foundation. They did a fabulous job and everything was so smooth and clean. There was no mess or anything when they were done. My foundation looked brand new. We also did some small concrete steps. They apparently neglected to replace the oil filter and we had to call in an emergency repair service when our boiler stopped working, which also cost hundreds of dollars. The repair person today said they probably didn't replace the filter because it was so clogged it was difficult to remove and they didn't want to bother. Obviously, we'll never be using Cromwell to service our boiler again.

We had what I now learned from a non-local family friend was a simple backflow preventer failure. The friend ball parked it around $500-600 max, and that was with up to 2 hours of time taken. This company charged me $1300 for an hour of time with a single part being replaced. Similar parts are available online for $150 (and I assume they get parts even cheaper). My family is leaving town this weekend and I wanted to ensure this got fixed (but it was not an emergency call), so I didn't take time to vet out other contractors. I'm not sure who sets the price, so if he had nothing to do with it, then this feedback should strictly go against F.F. Hitchcock's pricing structure. I reached out to F.F. Update: This company went from a great experience, to the worst experience. My secondary heat…read moresource went out during the winter and I called for a service checkup. After about 15 minutes of work I was told the condenser had to be replaced due to mice chewing the electrical wires. I could understand this. Here is where the issue comes in. The technician first said it would be $3400 to replace. He then went to his truck and came back to tell my wife it would actually be $8,000, but they added a discount so I would Pay $6,000. The total cost of the whole install (condenser unit + 4 wall units) was 12,000. So just to replace the condenser is over half the cost of the initial install. I called to complain and spoke with the service manager. The service manager essentially explained to me that this was accurate because if they did the install today it would be 23,000. So they evidently had a 100% price increase. I then explained the invoice showed the unit itself as 2,000 and then labor as 6,000. He explained to me that was untrue, that due to the new invoice system they have, they can just put numbers anywhere essentially, so I should ignore the invoice. I explained my frustration and how that does not make any sense and I am not paying 6,000 for a condenser and labor. He said he understood and would escalate it higher and I would get a call later that day or the next. It's going on 3 days now and I have not heard back. This company went from one of my top rated to near highway robbery. I cannot reccomend them to anyone at this point, and will need to look into alternatives to get my heat back in the winter.

Our first experience with Plumbums was excellent - we had an emergency issue, Jim was able to come…read moreout within an hour or two and get it fixed, and he was on his way. When our pipes froze during the big storm this January (thankfully, without water in them), we decided to hire Plumbums again. That didn't go as well. Quality of work: The fixes Jim suggested (a series of individual junction fixes) seemed reasonable for the repairs needed, but in some cases replacing whole sections would have been more time- and cost-efficient (according to other plumbers we've had in our home who have seen the work done). And we needed four return visits within our first three days living in the house to address issues that had not been resolved or that popped up as soon as we turned systems on. One problem (heat running constantly on our first floor, making the house over 80 degrees in the winter) was unresolved until I researched possible causes myself and communicated that to Jim, who sent out one of his guys to implement the fix. Professionalism: We were frustrated by the lack of care shown toward our property. Jim's guys left plumbing debris (not just the stuff our homeowner's insurance requested, but just straight-up trash), food trash, and drywall dust in our basement and living areas. This means that the first thing we had to do after driving 3,200 miles to move in was clean up after them. Drywall was removed roughly in several locations, and although patching was not included in the estimate, the cuts themselves appeared unnecessarily sloppy (and our new plumber neatly cuts and replaces drywall as a matter of course, leaving the mudding to us, which is fine). Plumbums did work well with our insurance company to get our claim handled, and ultimately we have working plumbing. But our experience wasn't great.
