Our first experience with Plumbums was excellent - we had an emergency issue, Jim was able to come out within an hour or two and get it fixed, and he was on his way. When our pipes froze during the big storm this January (thankfully, without water in them), we decided to hire Plumbums again. That didn't go as well. Quality of work: The fixes Jim suggested (a series of individual junction fixes) seemed reasonable for the repairs needed, but in some cases replacing whole sections would have been more time- and cost-efficient (according to other plumbers we've had in our home who have seen the work done). And we needed four return visits within our first three days living in the house to address issues that had not been resolved or that popped up as soon as we turned systems on. One problem (heat running constantly on our first floor, making the house over 80 degrees in the winter) was unresolved until I researched possible causes myself and communicated that to Jim, who sent out one of his guys to implement the fix. Professionalism: We were frustrated by the lack of care shown toward our property. Jim's guys left plumbing debris (not just the stuff our homeowner's insurance requested, but just straight-up trash), food trash, and drywall dust in our basement and living areas. This means that the first thing we had to do after driving 3,200 miles to move in was clean up after them. Drywall was removed roughly in several locations, and although patching was not included in the estimate, the cuts themselves appeared unnecessarily sloppy (and our new plumber neatly cuts and replaces drywall as a matter of course, leaving the mudding to us, which is fine). Plumbums did work well with our insurance company to get our claim handled, and ultimately we have working plumbing. But our experience wasn't great. read more

My hot water heater died and I needed a new one installed. It was an emergency because we couldn't shower (or do laundry or run the dishwasher etc) until it got replaced. I called Plumbums and got the owner's voicemail. I left a message letting him know I needed a new hot water heater ASAP... and he never even returned my call!No response whatsoever. I had to use someone else. So I could never recommend Plumbums to anyone. They left me stranded and didn't care. read more

Apparently a tin of hair masque from Lush will NOT flush no matter how hard you plunge, plead, and pay lesser handymen to fix it. Plumbums came, same day, and fixed a problem we've been dealing with for two weeks in a matter of minutes. Susan, who works for the company, is the sweetest and was willing to work with me when I didn't get paid til the next day and needed it plunged now. Had a tub drain blockade. I spent four hours trying to get a plumber snake through the thing. EPIC FAIL. Nope, my skillset was the only thing that went down the drain. Next I called a guy who specialized in drain unclogging who spent an hour trying to run his industrial powered electric plumber snake through the thing. He failed as bad as I did and this guy had a van with writing on it and everything!! He didnt even charge me cus " I feel sorry for ya" He lead me to believe I was looking at a wall removal and bathroom remodel cus theres no basement to access and yada yada yada. GLOOM AND DOOM! He feels sorry for me????? Now I know im screwed! So I check out the YELP reviews and see PLUMBUMS. God awful quirky name, but the five stars are there so we give em a call Appointment was set for the following day. They gave me a call at the time to say, " running an hour late" Not a deal breaker. A two man crew showed up with their own electric snake, some parts to swap out, and crawled around under the cabinets where the only access to the pipes were, and ....and... two hours and $600 bucks later I had a clear drain, and a new bathtub plug assembly installed and now I can take a shower again! Fast, friendly, and most of all EFFICIENT. Cheap??? Maybe not. But you get what you pay for. read more

I tried contacting various plumbers that were listed as either open or supplied a s 24/7 availability Plumbums was the only company that would either respond or get back within a reasonable time frame [LESS THAN ONE HOUR). After they arrived and started the job. A few other businesses did respond but Plumbums was already on sight. In the case of an emergency, the price was not a concern and responded as they advertise (emergency service). I highly recommend them. read more

Best Plumber servicing Griswold, CT. Friends, I called every plumber and they all failed except Plumbums. Some criticized my propane boiler over the phone for being too old and I should just replace it without even seeing it. All the rest came out and declared my boiler was dangerous and should be shut down, followed by words to the effect that owner will be calling me. Then owner calls and says oh, sorry about your unit, but the good news is the tech took lots of pictures (without my knowledge or consent tech trespassed on my privacy sending pictures of my property to entities unbeknownst to me). Turns out these techs are merely "headhunters" in the business of generating leads for new installs. They don't know how to troubleshoot, repair, or use the tools they bring into your home. Shameful! Stick close to the tech and listen when he goes to his truck for a part, that's where he's giving details on your setup. When he returns he will say his boss has ordered him to decommission your unit for safety reasons (meaning they make it so you can't use it), thereby putting you in the proper desperation mindset for a replacement boiler. Create PROBLEM so you are in state of panic and accept their SOLUTION of a new boiler. Are you curious about the service I was seeking? I wanted to have my boiler flushed/descaled as the owner's manual says this should be done as a part of routine maintenance. Also, I fiddled with the air emitter and it had a slow drip meaning it needed replacing. While here may as well have the combustion analyzed to see if it was at 80% (in spec for this model), and check all unions to be sure they are tight. Plumbums didn't even ask about age or model, Jim came out, got the part needed (air emitter), which required draining down the water pressure to install, so in the end the water was flushed as part of the part replacement. Jim checked over my unit and found it to be functioning as intended. He did not recommend replacement. For the replacement of the air emitter, the flushing, and looking the unit over, giving me great peace of mind, I felt the cost was 1/2 what others would have charged me and said so to Jim. If you need a plumber to do routine maintenance, or, a repair, I give Plumbums my highest recommendation. When the time comes to replace this unit I will look to Plumbums for that, as well.
