Last week I had my second takeout experience here and it was amazing! I discovered this restaurant from the Yelp Top 100 2021. When I saw they delivered to my apartment, I knew they would be a favorite of mine! I ordered the Thai peanut dumplings as an appetizer. I love this type of dumpling. It is sweet in all the right ways and if you love peanuts, you will love this. It was very light and delicious. Only negative was that they forgot the sauce, but luckily I had soy sauce in my pantry. For my entree, I got the Pad Kee Moa with chicken. If you like spice, you will love these noodles! There is so much flavor and I love the wide noodles. 10/10 would recommend and order this again! For appetizers, we got the Curry Puff and Tom Kha Soup. For our mains, we got the Pad Khee Mao with Shrimp and Green Curry. The puff was great and crispy while the soup was flavorful and soothing. Very good, tiny Thai place. I came here with a group of friends and everyone loved their food. I was pleased that they had one of my favorites, something you don't normally see in American Thai restaurants, khao soi. It is a northern Thai dish and just wonderful. Glur Thai is absolutely delicious. Even amongst the scores of fantastic Thai restaurants in Manhattan, the food here stands out to me. I am a vegetarian, so I'll start off by saying that I've rarely, if ever, see a non-vegetarian restaurant have so many veg-friendly options. The vegetarian options were so dominant on the menu that my friend and I both had a tough time trying to figure out if Glur might just be a fully-veg restaurant. If you eat meat, don't worry, they do have meat options available- but there's just many choices for the herbivores- tempeh, tofu, Impossible meat, vegetables, mock duck, mock chicken- the list goes on and on. I had two dishes here on my visit. For my appetizer, I had the vegetable curry puffs. They were amazing. The pastry crust was wonderfully laminated and light, and the filling was seriously good. It was a spiced blend of corn sweet potatoes, with a hint of sweetness. I highly recommend it even for non-vegetarians. For my main dish, I had the pad gra pow with Impossible meat. I enjoyed this dish so much, I cannot wait to have it again. The basil flavor was strong, it had a slight sweetness, and the chili provided a kick without being overwhelming. The best part of the dish was the use of the ground Impossible meat that provided the more authentic (and satisfying) minced meat texture that is missing when restaurants offer a pad gra pow with cubed tofu. There was a fantastic crispy texture to some of the Impossible meat, almost like it was prepared like a smash-burger where there are crispy, Maillard-blessed edges to the meat. For a vegetarian that doesn't often get to have this, it was awesome. Glur has been added to my go-to list of Thai reataurants in New York. Really not sure what all the social media fuss is about, but I was completely underwhelmed and disappointed with the food at Glur Thai. Dishes I tried were "one-noted" and lacked the basic flavor profiles of authentic Thai food. Yes, they do have a large variety of vegan options , but many of the meat substitutes but the textures were off-putting. Perhaps I went on a bad day but we tried four dishes and they were all subpar. Glur is such a cute spot! With a modern look, this Thai destination serves up some great food. The beef pad see ew was bursting with flavor and the duck massaman curry was a spectacular version of one of my favorite classics. Decided on this restaurant pretty last minute on a Saturday evening, and it was one of the best decisions I've made on a whim! We ordered the thai tea, chicken satay and pad kee mao - all of which were 10/10. The thai tea was perfectly sweetened and had oat milk, perfect for those of us who are lactose intolerant. The chicken satay was juicy and tender and came with a delicious peanut butter dipping sauce. My favorite was definitely the pad kee mao though. The noodles were fresh and had the perfect soft consistency with just enough of a bite to it. I especially appreciate the breadth of vegetarian and vegan options, ranging from tofu to imitation meat. Once we asked for the salt shaker, the Overton Window was breached, and the tables around us began to ask for their bit of NaCl as well. Solid Thai place with classic dishes in a cozy space. I came for dinner and ordered the Pad Thai with beef. Compared to most Pad Thai dishes I've had, it was pretty similar in terms of quality and ingredients (which is a good thing), although these noodles were a bit sweeter than usual. The $17 price is about average. For dessert, I ordered the Thai Coconut Custard, a Thai classic. The portion size is a bit small for $8, but the custard had a tasty coconut flavor with some nice creaminess. The restaurant is rather small and the tables are kind of close together, but the noise level is still low enough that you can comfortably have a conversation with someone from across the table, even during a busy time. The staff were friendly and attentive with relatively quick service. There was also some cute Thai decor around the interior including some decor resembling the Thai temples on the shelves. Overall, Glur Thai is yet another quality Thai restaurant in NYC. We asked for her opinion and she said the vegan khao soi was amazing. We trusted her opinion and she was RIGHT! One of the best dishes I've had in the city. It was very sweet which I wasn't expecting but was so yummy. The vegan duck in it was amazing which I wasn't expecting. So so so good. I was in heaven. We also got the green curry with shrimp which was good. I'm more of a noodle girl than a curry girl I think, so I wasn't obsessed with this but it was definitely still good! FYI: it's a small place, I think it can accommodate about 15 guests, outside sitting is an option and can hold about 10-12 guests. The service was polite and prompt. The price was typical for NYC: $100 with tip included. We ordered the Curry Puff as our appetizer and they were so flaky and tasty. As our dinner option we ordered crab fried rice, pad kee ew and pad kee mao; every dish was delicious. You could tell that the food was made to order because it was fresh. The restaurant only has a few tables so I recommend going during non-peak hours to avoid a wait if you want to dine in! I visited the restaurant twice - initially pre-pandemic when the vegan options were quite sparse; and again during the pandemic when indoor dining is banned.. it's really cold outside in January.. but the restaurant expanded and improved its vegan offerings. I am happy to say I gave the restaurant another shot before posting a review. I was very impressed with my second visit. I'd like to preface I'm not vegan but I do enjoy vegan fare when I go out to eat with vegan friends. The menu is not entirely vegan, but we did order entirely vegan. We tried 4 dishes: Ground Impossible Gra Prow Impossible Meat, Sting beans, basil sauce A little sweet but with a sprinkle of chili powder it was pretty tasty Vegan Khao Mun Gai Tod Fried plant based chicken, steamed ginger rice and homemade pineapple sweet chili sauce. Our favorite of the evening, the rice was perfect and the vegan fried chicken hit the spot Impossible Larb Impossible foods(TM), red onion, cilantro, mint, and toasted rice with chili lime juice. Served with sticky rice. This was a unique find- and a brilliant idea! And it comes with perfectly steamed sticky rice. Pad Thai Rice noodles, black tofu, turnips, ground peanuts, bean sprouts with impossible meat. We had to ditch the egg and scallions (dietary restrictions) but this was nice! Also had the Thai Iced Tea with oat milk- yum!! Overall we were thoroughly satisfied and impressed. The offerings are still a bit limited. Thai cuisine has so much more to offer but for a taste of Thai flavors, vegan Thai comfort food, Glur is knocking it outside the park . Plus they plan on adding more vegan to the menu! Came here with a reservation for 2 at 8pm on Friday and we were seated immediately. It was fairly busy and a pretty small space so I'm glad we called ahead and got our names down! We shared the pad kee mao and then I got the red curry and my friend got the pad graw pao. Both the pad kee mao and red curry were really good, I wish both were more spicy but they were still pretty flavorful. As a vegetarian, I do appreciate that they don't put fish sauce in their dishes! The only flaw I had was with making reservations. The woman who took my call told me she will hold my reservations but when I called the day off, the man said he had no reservations under my name but thankfully he held a seat. Im just glad I called the day of and the only reason I called was because it was raining and wanted to make sure if they're open! I think they need to keep better track of their reservations. Anyhow, the food was delicious and portions huge for the price. I had the Thai iced tea with oat milk and it tasted exactly like Thai iced tea with regular milk! That's a plus for me! The crispy tofu was crispy and delicious. The winner was the duck tamarind. The portion was huge but it was so delicious that I was determined to eat it all myself. At 2pm they said we have to order from the dinner menu which is fair enough. My two vegan friends were super excited to try the vegan options here! This small Thai spot packed a big punch. The red curry was truly one of the best I have had, a perfectly light flavor with good spice, and a generous portion. If I had gotten this as takeout it would be a 5 star night for me. We also ordered the veggie spring rolls, which came out piping hot and crispy, as nature intended. In this case, I have to remove two stars for a few reasons. 1) the timing of our service was a bit odd. We were a group of 6, and our food came out by twos in 5 minute increments, meaning the last two in our group were waiting 10 minutes for their dishes while everyone else ate. 2) a few in our party got the duck with their meals, and the level of done-ness was inconsistent. While one persons seemed to be well cooked and even a bit moist, another persons was over cooked, dry and leathery. This spot is a cute little restaurant in the Chelsea/flatiron area. There isn't too much room in the restaurant but we will still able to get seated quickly, only a 10 minute wait. I got the pad kee moa and it was absolutely delicious. It was pretty spicy, a good level spice and it came out piping hot. Overall, loved the flavors and the service was nice too. The owners are so friendly and customer-centric, you can't help but root for them and their continued success. They noticed my friend scratching her arm while we were waiting for a table, and brought out plant-based bug spray within minutes of seating us. If that doesn't scream customer service, I don't know what does. The draw of this place, aside from the delicious food overall, is that it has an entirely separate vegan menu, making it a versatile choice for meat-eaters and plant-only folks alike.
