As a group of six coming from the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Washington Heights, we all left impressed -- especially since three of us have gluten sensitivities or celiac disease. My daughter is a frequent customer because finding delicious and safe gluten-free options can be difficult, but this restaurant absolutely delivers. The service was a bit slow since only one person was attending multiple tables, but they still did their best and were very kind throughout the lunch. I walked over to the Chelsea Lilli and Loo near my place of work. Picking up an order, I discovered at home that they put in pork dumplings in instead of the egg roll I ordered. I ordered the spicy shredded beef but requested no bean shoots- guess what? Bean shoots in there. I have noticed over time that the more classic entrees wind up downright mushy by the time I get home gor a 30 minute trip. Limp broccoli is not appealing. Even the fried rice seems undercooked, nothing like one would expect. Bean shoots and okra in Chinese food just don't work. Please rethink the ingredients and preparations used. So I'm gluten free and basically haven't had good table service Lo Mein in a decade. Today Lilli changed that. To start we got the GF Oriental Pork Dumplings split pan fried/steamed. The steamed were good, pretty doughy, but the fried were better. Then 2 GF entrees, the Lo Mein w shrimp and the Spicy Maki Combo. Again, this is a rare opp for good gf spicy tuna/salmon sushi (they even have flakes/tempura type options). And the noodles were show stopping. I drank Dura beer which is labeled as "crafted to remove" gluten. Didn't look into that but it was good. Atmosphere was quiet despite the place being decently sized. Super fast service. read more

I've been reviewing restaurants on Yelp for years and then recently discovered I have celiac. Now I'm going to restaurants which are safe for celiac. I've gone from foodie to celiac. It's a switch! First, the ambience was sweet and had a good fib. There was energy walking in immediately. All the tables were full and from conversations, many locals. The staff was attentive and friendly and then I mentioned the who celiac thing. The waiter immediately changed tones and menus c he brought a gluten free menu and explained how the back of the house deals with gf-- including separate fryers and gf shoot sauce I've never had lemongrass soup and it was tasty. It's marked spicy but I was expecting hot. It had a hint of spice and not it wasn't overpowering. It was good and I will have it again. The sushi was fine not excellent. Just okay The sweet chili sambal entree was exceptional. It had an assortment of vegetables, including okra!! The spice was just right. I will come back and my non celiac partner enjoyed his food immensely and agreed to return. All in all, for a celiac and non celiac customers, it was a great experience read more

Lilli and Loo on the UES is our go-to for gluten-free Chinese food, so we were really excited to try their Chelsea spot for a special occasion. We sadly left pretty unimpressed by the food and ambience. We came in over an hour before closing, but our host/waitress made us feel pretty rushed throughout the experience. We were sat right next to the kitchen, which was noisy and played loud music. I asked to move to the quiet, empty dining room, but was told it was closed. Oh well, we understood it was late. But because I was looking directly into the kitchen I got to watch every single dish get microwaved. Ours came out warm but not hot, which is concerning for food safety. I walked in and stated I had a reservation (I made it on the website), she was unable to find it even though I had a confirmation email. After 5-7 minutes, she seated me and my friend. We ordered drinks and our meals. The drinks came and were good. Then they brought over the food awhile later and brought the wrong dish for me. I noticed the moment they said it as it was a shrimp dish and I had beef. They were very confused and I showed them again what I ordered and they left but gave my friend her food. They came back 6 minutes later and brought the wrong food AGAIN. I explained AGAIN what I ordered. 5 or so minutes later they finally brought me the right order. It was tasty but an annoying process. Made reservations two weeks ago to meet with family and they call one day before to cancel. They don't have the decency to let us know a week ago. I would not recommend going here. The person on the phone was very rude and referred to their 3 star sister restaurant. Please don't make plans to go here especially if you are from out of town and they leave you hanging with no reservation less than 24 hours before. Soooo impressed with this place!! Gluten free Asian food that doesn't taste gluten free. I got the calamari and the pork dumplings from the gluten free menu and could not recommend them enough! The server was so helpful and sweet in talking about my allergies and what she recommended from the menu. For my main I got a sushi roll with tempura that was very good but next time I'd prioritize trying the noodles or the general Tso's chicken which I've heard great things about. We order from Lilli and Loo Chelsea often. Usually the gluten free vegetable and avocado sushi rolls are good. Tonight we got 1/2 the amount we've previously gotten for the same order. One of the vegetables in the veggie sushi this time was iceberg lettuce, which was a poor substitute. I also ordered a GF miso soup that had so little miso in it that it tasted more like water.
