    Crab Meat Fried Rice
    Austin L.

This vegan-friendly Thai restaurant has a wide variety of classic Thai dishes, and many options for plant-based customers. It is quite small inside but a cute place for a quick meal. Their Thai iced tea is made with oat milk, but if I didn't know, I wouldn't be able to tell! The apps were alright! The Plant-based Dumplings were made with a vegetable filling to mimic the look and flavor of meat, but I think you can definitely tell the difference. The filling also kept falling out once I put my fork in it. The Golden calamari had a light crisp as the breading was a bit thin, but it still had good flavor with a mayo dipping sauce. I loved the amount of crab in the Crab meat fried rice and the spice level on the Pad kee moa noodles. It was chewy and packed with fresh shrimp! Of course, no Thai meal is complete without Mango Sticky Rice for dessert. Theirs was quite good.

very tiny cute place. authentic thai food. beef pad med mamuang (cashew nut sauté) was the table favorite. pad thai was a little weird almost like sweet - prob wouldn't order it again. green curry was spicy and delicious. chicken satay appetizer with peanut sauce

4/5 Thai Tea -- a bit on the sweeter side, standard richness of a classic thai tea 4.5/5 Curry Puff -- crisp flaky pastry, generous and flavorful filling 4.5/5 Green Curry- really enjoyed the flavor of their green curry, along side all the veggies in the dish with the jasmine rice. 4/5 Massaman Curry -- nothing to write home about but was tasty and hit the spot for a massaman curry craving 3.5/5 Pad Thai -- taste was overall too sweet, sauce was very liquidy, noodles erred on the softer side. Also note this restaurant is on the smaller side, maybe 6 tables total. We came on a weeknight around 6pm, and was lucky a group just finished their meal so there was no wait.

SERVICE - located in Chelsea near flatiron - small interior with some seating for groups of 2-4 and a few tables outside - many people doing takeout - service made it seem like they wanted us to eat and leave as soon as possible rather than leisurely enjoying our meal - ambiance good for a casual/semi casual meal - restroom available for diners MENU - Thai selection of mains and chefs specials - many vegan/vegetarian options - average price ($20 per entree) FOOD - vegan khao nar ped (8/10): crispy vegan duck over brown rice with a gingery sauce and sides of cucumber and greens. I asked for chili paste on the side and while it wasn't spicy the tang and warmth from the ginger was unlike any Thai dish I have tried. The portion is perfect for one person and can easily be shared as part of a larger spread. The texture of the vegan duck was chewy, but the flavors were masked by the sauce. WOULD I GO BACK? Yes! This is one of the most vegan friendly Thai places in the city that has affordable and flavorful food.

One of my favorite small spots in Manhattan for some comforting and delicious Thai food, I've come in a few times and their pad Thai with shrimp is delicious, I also love their red curry with vegetables. During my last visit to NYC I decided to try some of their soups I loved their Tom Yum with shrimp and their Tom Kha is a great option for those who are very sensitive to spice, they were both very good. It's almost a must visit whenever I come to New York Whether I come with friends or myself.

Although Glur is small, it has a good layout and seating. This place is super comfortable and has a great vibe. We received hot and tasty food. Guests were always assisted by the wait staff. I highly recommend Glur Thai for lunch, brunch, dinner, or dates. For those who enjoy dining outdoors, the outside seating is a great feature. I loved the food because it was so flavorful and delicious. All menus should be requested. Only their seasonal menu was provided to me, with fewer specials. Other diners had additional menus, so I inquired about them.

Such a great vegetarian option - I'm not a vegetarian or vegan by any means but it's so nice that people can have more than the 1-2 options that menus generally offer. We didn't have any issues getting a table for 2 on a Saturday evening - it did start filling up as we ate. The menu is quite extensive with some core options and lots of newness with vegan options. I'd recommend the daring chicken option with any noodle - personally the pad Thai ($20) was good at first but then got too sweet once again. The ground impossible gra pow with rice ($22) was 100% a must have! It was very flavorful and had a sweetness without being overpowering. Would definitely come back - it's a small space but great for pairs or groups of 4.

Honestly, a pretty solid Thai spot. It is very small with little seating so you have to wait because they don't do reservations. We were able to get sat within 10 minutes. I think we just got lucky. They had a lot of vegan options which was really nice because two of the friends I was with our vegetarian. I tried the vegan duck and it was honestly really good. Didn't have a meat texture, but the flavors were really good and I enjoyed it.

I came to Glur with my friend who is vegan since she knew that there were a lot of options she could enjoy. I've never heard of Glur prior, but I was a little hesitant as i've never been to a thai place with a lot of vegan options before. I was definitely proven wrong. I got the chicken red curry and pad kee mao. Both dishes were so good and full of flavor. They had the perfect amount of spice and it was so comforting and warm to eat on a rainy evening. This is a great place to go with a group of friends as there's an option for everyone, and Glur does it all pretty well! The only thing is that the restaurant is a bit small and it did take a while to get the food, but other than that I highly recommend!

Glur is a small Thai place in Chelsea with limited indoor and outdoor seating. The service is quick and the servers were so nice! We came here on a rainy Saturday night and waited about 20 minutes to sit at the bartop facing the street, which wasn't too bad. Just know there isn't space to wait inside and there isn't a covering outside, so a lot of people didn't wait due to the rain. I ordered the vegetable pad Thai and it was delicious, but the noodles were a bit too soft for me. The dish was flavorful and loaded with veggies (carrots, green beans, mushrooms, etc.). The portions are big as well, with enough for me to take back leftovers for lunch later in the week. It held up (shockingly) well for leftovers, the flavor was unchanged and the veggies were still crunchy even after reheating. This is a great Thai place and I would probably come back!

This place is a cute little restaurant with good food and kind staff. I sat outside. The food came out quickly and it was hot and fresh. Pad Thai: 9/10 I know they say not to judge a Thai restaurant by just the Pad Thai, but it's very telling of how the rest of the food can taste. The noodles were well cooked, and the sauce was delicious. I thought the noodles were well coated with the sauce as was the chicken. Very good Pad Thai! Pad Gra Prow: 8.5/10 Lots of flavor and lots of chili. Even though I got this medium spicy I needed a Thai iced tea to wash it down. The flavor was good but wow was this spice a lot. And I'm decent with spice. Be warned!

I started with a Volcano Roll - hearts of palm substituting for fish. Well balanced and delicious. Next was broccoli "beef" - fresh broccoli and shitake "steak" with mushrooms really balanced the dish. I ended with something so unnecessary and so wonderful, I'm glad I did it: The sticky toffee pudding. Just pure delight. It was relatively quiet when I was there. I could see how it could get a bit noisy if it were crowded. But even so, the people who visit are friendly and I ended up having a great conversation with the table next to me. I'll be back. I'm not exactly local, but it's definitely worth the trip! Planta is on my faves list now!

Funny enough, we met our only other vegan friend there. So, from the vegan perspective, this is a popular and tasty place. We started with drinks, being lunchtime, we opted for non alcoholic drinks, the matcha colada and the salty maple macchiato. The matcha colada had a nice color but tasted mostly like coconut and pineapple which was still yummy. Friends ordered 3 different kinds of sushi and dan dan noodles with tofu. I was confused with the sushi as I thought vegans didn't eat fish...so yes I asked and was told that they probably made the "fish" with tapioca. I did try a bite of each roll (I was still full from the fest) and I was surprised that it tasted pretty good. They did a nice job with the roll and presentation. The matcha cheesecake was nice and creamy. I would not have known it was vegan. I don't normally like food that pretends to be something else because it usually doesn't live up to the real thing. The idea is that it is not pretending to be something but rather substituting with vegan options, I do think from a health perspective, I am more open to trying more vegan foods. Ambiance felt upscale and wait staff were helpful and congenial. I hear dinner time gets packed here. I may have to try again when I have not eaten already.

And that's really one of the best things about this location of Le Botaniste (there around 7 locations in the city) - being right across from Bryant Park, you can enjoy a healthy lunch while enjoying the park! So what is Le Botaniste? It's an organic, plant-based, and carbon-neutral cafe with locations in NYC and a couple in Europe. So everything is vegan. Everything is organic. The calories and other dietary information are listed on the menu. I had their Chef Priyanka Samosa Bowl (a seasonal offering), which includes brown rice, saag, samosa balls, crispy chickpeas, turmeric onions, tamarind and green chutneys, and yogurt raita. It is 433 calories and 12 grams of protein. I thought it was good - although I thought the samosa balls were quite dry (the chutneys, saag, and raita helped), and I liked that it was light and healthy and wouldn't slow me down for the rest of my busy day. I also grabbed a water and a quinoa peanut butter cookie that I saved in my bag for later. (I noticed that they had some wines that I would have been happy to try - if you eat in, you can have a full experience with a drink.) I showed up right at 11 when they opened, and there was only one other customer. My bowl was ready in seconds and I was out the door and across the street seated in Bryant Park within a minute or two. If you're looking for a healthy vegan lunch in the neighborhood, Le Botaniste is a good option!

Somehow, they were able to approximate the flavor and texture of crab with a combination of chickpeas, artichokes, hearts of palm and panko. Very well prepared and tasty. The roasted brussel sprouts were "fine". The menu says they are prepared with a citrus balsamic reduction. No one was very impressed with these. The Colombian potato soup was flavorful and we all enjoyed that. The broth was not very hot (temperature-wise), which was a disappointment. We ordered soup because it was a very cold day and were looking forward to a hot soup. Of the appetizers we shared, we agreed that the crabby cakes were the strongest of the three. The brussel sprouts none of us would get again. They were essentially a small bowl of brussel sprouts with no special characteristic flavor. The entrees were all a big success. I loved my PS Lasagna. It tasted like a meat lasagna in a very flavorful and very nicely seasoned marinara. It was outstanding. And a very nice portion. The Chicken Pot Pie was delicious also. The crust was flaky, with lots of pieces of "chicken". Could have used more peas and carrots. But a very flavorful dish that is an excellent example of how comfort food can be made in vegan style. The chicken Caesar wrap was enormous and delicious. The service here was excellent. We were well-attended to, especially with respect to filling of water glasses. We had a reservation and arrived over a half hour early, but they were able to take us right away. When we were done, we did notice a long line of people waiting to get in, so we couldn't linger. It was tender, well seasoned, covered in a savory, tasty mushroomy Marsala sauce, with plenty of mashed potatoes topped with mushroom and garlic spinach on the side. Truffle Fries were perfectly crispy with strong truffle flavor, dusted with herby spices. The Chicken Pot Pie looked pretty good with spices and rosemary on top. The crust was satisfyingly crisp, flaky, buttery, while the inside was a mixture of chicken substitute, peas, carrots. However, the filling wasn't thick enough for me, and I think the addition of potatoes would have made it much better. Service was lovely. Our waiter was welcoming and knowledgeable about the offerings. Prices were decent for the area. Menu was creative, especially given that it is all plant based. We enjoyed our time here! Beyond Sushi was in Midtown near where I was staying, so I ended up coming here---on Valentine's Day, which happened to be a mistake! Since I didn't have a reservation, the lady who checked me in told me I had to find a seat at the bar. Her attitude was not the best, as when I looked over the menu and made a decision on what I wanted to get, she dismissed me when I waved her over, saying she is not the person taking orders. Um, okay? Then who is? One guy at the bar was nicer, and was able to take my order. I started off with a hot tea since NYC was cold in February, and then decided to have as much as I could of two dishes---the "chicken" yakitori skewers and the Korean BBQ skillet. The skewers came in a set of two, with a white mayo-like sauce drizzle and pickled cucumber on the side. Super delectable, though very filling because of the protein! The skillet was made with classic Chunk Foods protein, the go-to plant-based option for all the meat dishes at City Roots restaurants as far as I know. This was incredibly filling, but the sauce and the texture were all around delicious as well. I could NOT bother to finish the brussels sprouts the skillet came with---way too much to stomach, and I was going to focus on the "meats" since I can always have brussels any other time! The bill by the end of it was PRICEY. That's why I only go to one of these restaurants as a special treat when I visit NYC. Watch out if you order hot tea...$13!! I guess that's the NYC way, but still!

But there's no denying that BCD has upped their soondubu game considerably in the last decade+ with a thicker, more deeply flavored broth, and now easily rivals my longtime favorite and gold standard, the OG So Kong Dong in Fort Lee. Then I stumbled into a hack that changed my view: lunch! I ducked in for a late lunch on a whim while walking by one day, and this turned out to be a much chiller hour, unhurried and no reservation needed. I was promptly seated, my order taken, and the banchan swiftly laid out. The banchan spread is solid across the board (the little fried fish does nothing for me, but seems to be a highlight for everyone else). I especially love the kimchi, near-perfect IMO, and the pickled cucumber. There's a modest lunch discount, which is a nice bonus for someone who likes to order aggressively. I usually get an oyster, seafood, or assorted soondubu (with a raw egg cracked in), danger spicy of course! Or go the C1 combo route with a galbi (marinated bbq beef short ribs) + smaller soondubu. It's an enormous amount of food, so I take most of the galbi home and feel no shame about it. The galbi, by the way, has also gotten noticeably better over the years - meatier, tender, and the flavor is on point. I've also enjoyed their bibimbap, bulgogi, jap chae, and seafood pancake. Finally, let's talk heat - this chili-head loooves fire! And BCD's danger level is one of the rare instances where the spice level actually meets my punishing tolerance for heat, not some pretense at "American spicy.," despite this being a chain. Their danger level actually means business and brings tears to my eyes, literally.
