I think we can all agree that Milu is a bit asynchronous, with its "clean eating" overlay to a HK cafe menu. I suppose one might say their menu is more broadly pan-Chinese, but when I see bolo bao and HK nai cha on a menu, it sounds like a cha chaan teng to me. Instead of cheesy casseroles and cheong fun, you'll find healthy-ish rice bowls. In any case, the bowls are pretty good. I really like their fried tofu, which is silky and delicate on the inside with a crispy, but not overly fried, exterior. The charred broccoli is nothing to write home about, but a decent side option for a guilt-free weekday lunch. read more

Quality ingredients but bland - everything was toned down and westernized. The broccoli had vinegar dressing on it. If I had taken this home and put some of my own sauces on it from the Asian supermarket, it would have likely been fine, though. The pineapple bun was soft - it didn't have that textured top and bready texture that they typically do, so it was nothing like the traditional buns - it was something different altogether and tasted most like a scone read more

3 stars feels a little harsh but tbh there was nothing special about the dish I got. It feels like these type of non-chain fast casual types of places are few and far in between so I would give this spot another chance and get something else. 3.5 stars rounded up. This is a cute and casual spot with lots of small tables and a few booths. I've been twice, and it was comfortably quiet during dinner, much busier during lunch, but I was still able to snag a seat right away. The Yunnan brisket bowl was delicious. The meat was nice and tender, albeit with some fatty bits, and the sauce was really flavorful with a good kick. The marinated cucumbers really elevated the dish. As for sides, the duck bun was yummy but not particularly memorable. I stupidly ordered the salted egg yolk fries even though I'm not a fry fan... I was too tempted by the salted egg yolk part. They were fine, but the salt and greasiness combined with the creamy scallion mayo made this overwhelmingly heavy after a while. I had to get the egg tart soft serve, which was smooth and perfectly sweet. I liked the crunch from the caramelized puff pastry. It also made me realize that egg tarts kinda just taste like eggier vanilla, which melted my brain. read more

I had the Mandarin duck bowl twice at this location. The duck was deliciously fried. However, this rice bowl had only four pieces of meat. For a $20 rice, I expect at least six pieces of meat. Minus one star for the small portion for the high price. The shop looks clean. The cashier was polite. The bathroom is clean. read more

Honey shrimp is often a dish I'll get as part of a family style dinner feast in a Chinese restaurant, but at Milu, you can get it in a single size portion for lunch! The decor inside is lovely, reminiscent of a cha chan tang but a deep Mahjong tile green that makes it modern yet familiar. read more

Milu is my go-to spot in the neighborhood. I love the soy roasted chicken and the mandarin duck bowls, which are healthy, fresh, light and delicious. It is fast casual style but with an elevated vibe. I usually get take out since I live nearby, but this would also be a good spot to meet someone for a casual bite. read more

My coworker gets lunch here like twice a week and it looked rlly good so I finally decided to go. Actually pretty good but priceyyyy for lunch Got the Yunnan Brisket Bowl which came with rice, salad, and marinated cucumbers. Brisket was HEATTTT that was so freaking good and also crispy which I didn't expect but really appreciated. Y'all the sauce on this brisket is so beautiful its a little sweet very garlicky, had a bit of a citrus flavor with some light heat. Cucumbers were pretty good and salad was fine. It's friday idfc i got dessert ok so i got their vanilla pineapple bun which was scrumptious. Also a milk tea which tbh was kinda watery so that wasnt worth it. Couldve got another bun instead whatever... So ya overall i really enjoyed my meal read more

Came here on a weekend for lunch, and there were plenty of seats available. This is a fast-casual but also nice sit-in restaurant with lovely interior decor and a nice vibe. There was also Chinese pop playing in the background. The waiters were extremely friendly, and the bathroom was very clean. The waiter even offered chili crisp for the salmon dish and we had lots of choices from the dim sum weekend menu. We ordered the salmon bowl entree and dim sum items for the rest (lotus leaves with rice, wontons, shrimp toast, and turnip cake). The food was all fresh and tasty! read more

I love the black sesame soft serve with mochi! It's rich in toasty black sesame flavor and the right amount of nutty flavor! The miss for me was the Yunnan beef, it was wayyy too salty. Milu is a fast casual place, you place an order at the front, sit down, and they'll bring the food to you. For dinner, I got the mandarin duck entree with the egg yolk french fries. For the entree, there's a decent amount of meat, rice, and greens so you're definitely getting a complete meal here. For desserts, I got their egg tart and matcha swirl soft serve. Both tasted really good! However the matcha is a seasonal flavor. I also got a pineapple bun. It was probably my least favorite out of the items I ordered, I was there was a lot more filling read more

Not very good. AOF. I'm not sure whether the crispy chicken dish is meant to have burnt spicy crisps on it but it does, too much of it. Tastes like burned leftovers from the pan after you fry the chicken and it's super spicy. The chicken, salad and rice ratio is off, there's too much rice, not enough chicken and again too much burnt stuff. The dumplings weee aweful, fell apart immediately and the sauce is soo spicy, literally burnt my mouth, did not see that one coming. This is the only dumpling sauce they carry. They charge for any additional sauce even if you don't want the spicy one, so if you can't have spicy food, don't bother trying this place. The drinks are advertised as bottled but they are not. The decor is ok, doesn't matter when the food is not great. I wasn't impressed with the service either. I had high hopes for this restaurant and was let down with my experience. They're limited to what they offer and I won't be coming back to try more stuff. read more

TLDR: This is everything you could want out of a fast casual spot. FOOD: This spot generally is a place for bowls, that come with a protein and veggies on top of rice. I shared two different bowls with my boyfriend. We got the salmon with ginger and scallion on multigrain rice, which was a very good. It reminded me of a Chinese inspired dish my stepdad makes, which comes with a cold ginger sauce. I quite like this dish and would get again. It also had great charred broccoli. The brisket dish was the other bowl we shared. I was less enthused by this one, I thought the brisket was good, but at some parts over flavored. It is spicy, but the flavors weren't really for me. I also wasn't a big fan of the cucumber salad - which is odd, considering I quite like cucumber salad usually. We also got the broccoli and mushroom wontons, which were pretty disappointing. There was very little flavor in the wontons - would not order again. AMBIANCE: The spot is really cute. It's a fast casual space so you seat yourself, there are several tables and a few booths against the wall. The booths are comfortable and have fabric cushions on them. I think the place is decorated nicely and is a really cute spot. SERVICE: Again, it's fast casual, so you order at the counter and see yourself. Overall, I did find the people very nice and willing to explain what was on the venue. No complaints. OVERALL: Tasty, but seems to depend on what you order. Fast, cute, reasonably priced - will be back for the salmon! read more

I came on a weekday and it was not busy when I ordered and sat down but it quickly became busy during the lunch rush. You order at the counter and then find your own seat. The interior is clean and spacious, and the only natural lighting is at the front of the restaurant. I was only getting a snack so I got the hot duck bun, the seasonal pineapple bun (peaches and cream), and the egg tart soft serve. The egg tart soft serve had a light flavor and the caramelized puff pastry went well with it. Both buns were made of the same bread with different fillings. The bun itself was soft and fluffy, but very small, and the top of the buns did not have the typical crunch or flavor as traditional pineapple buns. The duck bun came warmed and I thought the filling was tasty, but I wish there was more filling/a bigger bun for the price. I wasn't a huge fan of the seasonal peaches and cream filling as it didn't taste strongly of any flavor. The peaches and cream bun and the soft serve weren't too sweet, which is good. However, next time I'd rather go to a traditional asian bakery to get a bun. I would come back if I was in the area and needed a casual place to eat. read more

I had a great first visit to Milu today, which will not be my last. Cool, relaxing vibe in a modern space with food that lives up to the hype. While the bowls were tempting, I decided to try the broccoli and mushroom wontons and a duck bun. The wontons were packed with veggies and little discernable filler, with prominent broccoli flavor. I enjoyed them, but they only came with chili oil. They really needed some vinegar for balance. The duck bun had a tender, savory filling that could have used a little more duck, but was great nonetheless. The highlight was the egg tart soft serve I went back to the counter to get, which I couldn't pass up despite being pretty full. It was a good portion adorned with crispy pastry. It was a pretty good mimic of the Portuguese egg tarts, and the pastry made it. Service is friendly and at the counter, and you bus your own. Water is available off to the side near merch. All in all, this is a lovely little oasis with great food, and I'd definitely return. read more

Milu has some really tasty dishes that are more exciting than a make-your-own salad place and definitely more Americanized and hip than an authentic Chinese restaurant. I loved the variety of veggies and creativity on the menu, but I kept asking myself, "why is everything so salty!!?" It's a shame because the food was otherwise really nicely executed in terms of texture, presentation, and quality. Everything we ordered was just super salty! Overall, Milu gets slightly less than a 4/5 for me for that reason. There are seasonal menu items on the screen display that aren't listed on the paper menus so take a look there too! * Broccoli and cremini mushroom wontons-- shaped like a wonton but textured more like a dumpling. The filling was mushy but pleasant, the only item that I didn't think was overly salted! * Tofu and seaweed salad was bursting with dill and cilantro, which was super tasty-- a little a heavy on the salt. The textural contrast with crunchy seaweed and chewy tofu strands was fun and nice :) * Chinese greens-- a plate of Yu Choy (the veggies you get at dim sum) with piles of a super salty, savory, and slightly spicy chili sauce. Even after scraping the sauce off, it was still too salty for me. Would ask for the sauce on the side. * Poached ginger salmon bowl-- the salmon was nice, tender, and not overcooked, super yummy with the ginger sauce and rice. Loved how it came with broccoli and the salad which was super tangy or vinegary, but those were also, again, too salty so I was unable to finish this one. It was a really nice dish otherwise. * Brisket bowl-- the meat seemed dried fried which left a crunchy exterior and chewy meaty interior... and yes, it was too salty! Cucumbers were pleasantly sesame and vinegar flavored, and the same side salad came along too. * Chili crisp chicken-- Very crunchy fried chicken bites. Slightly too crunchy and on the hard side with a very high batter to meat ratio. A few bites I had were just fried fat nuggets, but the meat part was tasty (but overly salty). * Egg tart soft serve-- more of a custard powder or custard bun flavor. I didn't really register it as an egg tart flavor until I had a bite of the puff pastry which was reminiscent of egg tart crusts. The soft serve texture was nice with a slightly stretchy and thicker consistency that didn't melt as quickly as most soft serves. This was really nice after such a salt-heavy meal. *pant pant* Service was nice-- it was pretty quiet and empty the night we went but the workers were still friendly when tending to us, and the place is clean. Happy that they had water on the side to refill yourself even though it was room temp. If I tell people about this place, I'd say to request less salt on everything for a tastier and way healthier experience! read more

Four words and I'm all yours: EGG TART SOFT SERVE. This place has a minimalistic and comfortable interior. It's fast casual, so you order at the counter and your order will come to your table. The staff are very quick and keep the place clean. The Pork & Cabbage Wontons were soooo good! I loved the texture and the chili oil was the perfect flavors for me. Not too hot, but packed with umami. The wontons were also stuffed well - they do not skimp out! If you love dan taat as much as I do... the Egg Tart Soft Serve is a MUST. While I was visiting NYC, this was at the top of my list for places I wanted to try. The texture was creamy and the flavor wasn't overly eggy. It had a decandant custard mouth-feel which contrasted the pastry bites well. 10/10 would recommend!!! read more

Super fast service and casual restaurant, but with a beautiful interior, so it is a great place to catch up with friends if you are low on time but want a nice meal :) I got the ginger scallion salmon bowl... while the salmon was so soft and the charred broccoli was packed with flavor, I do think the bowl was a bit overpriced for how much salmon I got (maybe like 5 small cubes). This place would definitely be a go-to if the cost was more in line with the amount of food I got, but nevertheless, the salmon was really delicious. I was also able to sample the black tea and egg tart soft serve flavors. The egg tart was very unique and custardy, tasted almost like a cake. Black milk tea was my favorite! read more

The service was outstanding, especially for a casual dining spot. The dishes aimed for a fusion style while still maintaining authentic flavors. Super lowkey fast casual place but with nice places to sit! I came to catch up with a friend, and it was the perfect ambience for that-- not too loud and really nice vibe. You order at the front and then they give you a number to put on your table if you're dining in so they know where to bring your food when it's ready. I ordered the chili crispy chicken bowl, which came with rice, salad, and a slaw. The bowl was super light, and it definitely tasted like you were eating something fresh and on the healthier side of Asian fusion. That said, I wanted a bit more flavor from each element because it was all on the bland side. The chicken is deliciously crispy, but I wish there were more pieces of it. I ended up with a lot of rice and slaw at the end without enough chicken to go with it. And sorry but I have to humble this egg tart soft serve that everyone's hyping up for a second because this was glorified vanilla. If you told me this was creamy vanilla soft serve, then yes. Absolutely, this is that. I had such high expectations for this because of all the reviews I read talking about it, but truly this was just creamy vanilla soft serve. The little pastry pieces are a fun addition, but they don't taste like the crust of an egg tart. Staff is super friendly, though! I appreciated them walking around to collect empty dishes and bringing food over to us. read more

I'm actually surprised how good Milu is considering how it looks really unassuming. The chicken was ACTUALLY crispy. It's literally what you think popcorn chicken should be, especially with the chili powder on it, which in and of itself isn't actually that salty or spicy. The duck fat rice is also really soft and flavorful. Yunnan Brisket is good too though it's really quite salty so I definitely prefer the Spicy Crispy Chicken. Unfortunately, I can't say I love this because the portion truly is really really small. The rice and chicken only filled maybe half of the bowl (which also curves inward from the bottom btw). Then it's fluffed up to maybe 80% capacity via charred broccoli, so much of this bowl is empty. Service is really quick though, perfect for lunch time. read more

Super friendly staff. Clean and spacious dining space after ordering. Water available on tap to the left of ordering counter. Clean, private single bathroom available. The food is good. I was expecting more complexity from the duck as contrasted by the veggies, but the pickled veggies weren't as bright or acidic as I had hoped. The duck was ... a bit drier than I was expecting. It seems almost like it had been dry brined just a bit too long and has loss too much moisture. It felt like too much of the fat had been rendered out. The ride was flavorful and delicious, especially when mixed with the chili oil that the popcorn chicken bites came with. Pretty dang good chicken + accompanying sauce. What REALLY earned a 5/5 rating for me was the Custard Tart Soft Serve. The soft serve is perfectly eggy, and together with the puff pastry/similar croutons included in the soft serve, oh, my, god. I don't like this phrase, but ... *chef's kiss*, no joke. MUST TRY. 5/5 - Absolutely will be coming back in the future. read more

This is my favorite "day to night" fast casual spot! Adding this place to my favorites list for both solo and group dining. In the day, this place operates as a fast casual spot that's great for takeout. At night, they dim the lights and it's a great place to catch up with friends without breaking the bank. I tried the roast duck bowl, Yunan brisket bowl and a side of chili crisp chicken (amazing!!). I was thinking that I could bring a zip loc to take the rest of the chili crisp oil home, but thankfully they sell premade bottles at the front counter. RATING (DESSERT) : 7/10 PRO TIP: They only serve two flavors of soft serve at a time and seem to rotate flavors, so don't expect a ton of options when you come. EGG TART SOFT SERVE** This was good; I've had egg tart ice cream before and while this was on the lighter side, I really enjoyed the texture of the soft serve, and it had a subtle but present egg tart flavor. The addition of the little flaky biscuits with sugary coating on top is a great textural addition, and adds a nice burst of sweetness through the not too sweet egg tart soft serve. Enjoyable, and good quality - makes me want to come back to try their entrees. PINEAPPLE BUN A bit less traditional, they actually add pineapple to these pineapple buns. Good texture and crumb to the actual breading, but I can't say I loved having actual pineapple flavor in my pineapple bun. This was just okay, and I probs wouldn't get it again. Regardless, love to see modern takes on the Chinese flavors I grew up loving, being served to a wider audience. Hear their food is great - it certainly looks it! Will update if I ever get around to trying their entrees. FINAL RANKING: GOOD (terrible / bad / ok / GOOD / great / excellent) read more

Solid fast casual restaurant. It was a lovely dining experience; very clean, nice ambiance and decor. Cute merch + ingredients corner in the back too (featuring their Chili oil). I liked the Hunan brisket; the cucumbers in the dish were crunchy and delish. The dish overall was tasty, although I'll say the flavor of the chili oil was powerful, and wished there was more depth to the sauce/flavoring of the dish. Still great though. Also their pineapple bun was yum! read more

This place was all hype at least for the egg tart soft serve. It didn't taste anything like egg tart. It was just a very sweet vanilla with a tiny bit of egg at best. The texture of the soft serve wasn't bad. The puff pastry that was on top tasted like palmiers that you can get at the grocery store. They were also a bit stale. The place is very spacious, and there's ample seating. The aesthetic is nice. However, the soft serve just wasn't good. read more
