I came at about 4pm one afternoon. You have to get buzzed in which is a little strange but I understand why. Only two people were working and they were both busy so one of them had to let me in the door and stop working on the customer. She called someone to see if she could take me but she couldn't. They really need more help in this place. If someone comes in the door or calls on the phone, someone has to stop what they are doing with the customer. Maybe hire a receptionist? I'm not sure if this is how it always is or not since it was my first time in. Anyway, I had to come back that night and the owner gave me a $5 off coupon for my trouble, which was really nice of her. My no chip and pedicure didn't last as long as it had in the past - but it was average. I'd probably try this place again. read more

I wanted to give more stars. Parafin wax machine wasn't on, so I couldn't revive that service. I wasn't given a hand massage as part of my manicure. While my nails were drying in the dryer, the technician came over and "rubbed" lotion on the top of my hands. I guess that was my hand massage? After doing my nails on my own and nicking them/messing them up (I'm notorious for screwing up my nails after I actually take the time to get them done), my boyfriend's sister and I decided to go get them done before the New Year, to ensure we were on-point for 2015. Again, I searched on yelp, and found Gloss Nail Salon... the pictures sold me on trying it out (thanks, ladies!) I called to make sure there wasn't a long wait, and was told they could squeeze us in, so we were on our way. When we arrived, we were told to pick out colors, like usual, and I had the honor of getting Ivonna to do my nails. Ivonna was amazing! She did an amazing job with my mani and pedi... and talked me into actually getting no-chip (gel) nail polish on my hands since I told her how I always end up screwing up my nails. For my mani, I chose a white polish, then with a glitter coat, and then teal glitter tips (see photo). And for my toes, I just went with a super glittery bluish-purple polish that sparkled so much, it could blind you if you looked directly at them when I was in the sun, lol. When I saw the final product of my toes, I was quite pleased. And my mani... Well I called them my "Frozen" nails and started singing "Let it go, let it go..." (You're probably laughing, but I'm serious... haha! I'm a goofball like that). Anyways, I was extremely pleased with the amazing job Ivonna did with my nails... the only thing I wasn't too thrilled about was that my manicure felt a little bumpy and wasn't smooth, but oh well -- they looked (and still look) wonderful! read more

They were flexible with our arrival time (we were late - Chicago traffic). Our pedicures and manicures were well done and completed quickly. We enjoyed a cup of coffee and the massage chairs. Let me start off by saying that I do not regularly get my nails done, and it shows. I am lost in the world of picking colors that would suit my skin tone. The girls were very helpful and did not make me feel rushed. I got a no chip manicure and pedicure. Very well done, even with my very short nails. The only 'con' would be I did not see a list of prices any where in the store, so when it came time to pay I was a little surprised by the cost (but that could be me just not knowing nail salon prices?) It is a great neighborhood place. They have late hours some evenings, which is a huge plus. The whole staff is friendly. One of my favorite things about Gloss is how clean they keep it. I watched the owner deep clean the pedicure stations late one evening and was quite impressed. I've never seen anyone clean a pedicure station with that much vigor. Even though I moved from the neighborhood, I still make the trip back every 2 weeks to get my nails done by Basia and Dominika (all the techs are just as good). The women who are getting their nails done at the salon looked like their hands looked great. However, I went for Pedi. If you want your nails to look great, this is not the place to go for a pedicure. On a positive note, I was really excited they were able to squeeze me in without an appointment today. I'm on my way back because once I got home I realized that there are smudges of nail polish on several of my toes, and my big toenails don't have paint down the sides. After reading the reviews for this place, I decided it was a love it or hate it kind of nail salon and decided to try it because I'm not terribly picky. I just really wanted a pedicure and an eyebrow wax... I arrived for my 10:30 appointment and couldn't get into the salon - you have to be buzzed in but no one was coming so I had to call to have someone let me in. There were 3 girls working on 3 customers so I picked my color and sat down but a few minutes later, the owner came and set up my pedispa and had me sit and soak my feet. I sat there for 20 minutes while the water got cold before anyone came to start my pedicure. At 11:00, the owner came over, started my pedicure, rushed through it to the point that I couldn't even enjoy it, and then whisked me into the back to do my eyebrows - another rushed, mediocre experience with "just ok" results. By 11:30, I was sitting at the driers to set my toenail polish but not before paying $47 plus $8 tip for services that seem exceptionally overpriced. I probably won't be coming back here to be honest. UPDATE: After only having my pedicure for 12 hours, the nail polish is starting to chip. I will never be coming back here. $35 for a 12 hour pedi is complete crap. read more

This place is advertised on yelp and their door, as being open until 9 PM, when I found this nail salon I thought it would be perfect since I needed to have my daughters nails done. However when walked in at 7:30 and asked if they had time for a full set, the one lady doing nails immediately said no. she was working on one person and there was another nail tech giving someone a pedicure. I would not recommend this place I do not appreciate being turned away when you have more than an hour before you close...rude and who knows maybe even racist! read more

I had a wedding to attend a few weeks ago and didn't have time to go to my usual place downtown so I decided to give Gloss a try. It was a Saturday so I called ahead to make an appointment. This place was packed! I was excited to see it so busy. I had a no-chip on and wanted to do a french no-chip for the wedding. The lady that I had made conversation with me and was pleasant at first. She suggested I do a thin layer of glitter between the white and flesh color part of my nail??? I am a 30 year old woman, I don't do glitter. I politely said no, just a french. She was insistent. I just said no again. The place seems to be a neighborhood sort of establishment because all of the customers knew the techs. I didn't like this, in comparison I felt like my tech was rushing me and not taking care of me like she should have because I wasn't a "regular", despite telling her I live in the area and would prefer to go there if I liked it. Here's the kicker. There was dirt under my nails. I was patiently waiting for her to clean them (as routine). I didn't say anything because all techs are different. But then she started to polish and I stopped her and said, "Aren't you going to clean the dirt from my nails?" She said, "No, the white polish will cover it." Are you kidding me?? She acted as if I asked something out of the ordinary. I didn't ask her to clean it with her teeth? They have tools for that. I was in shock. Instead of making a scene I just sat patiently until my time was up. I tipped my usual $7 in addition to the no-chip price. My nails looked terrible and gaudy and chipped after 3 days. I have been coming to this place for a year now & I must say that no one has done my nails the way Basia does!! She's also great with eyebrows. I always had people do them too thin, but she does it just right!! I am completely in love!!! The place is very clean & relaxing & beautifully decorated. The workers are friendly & they enjoy their job. I do suggest calling ahead of time & scheduling an appointment, they get pretty busy especially around holidays.
