I have been working with Shawn for 9 months and it has without a doubt been the best personal training experience I have ever had. I've worked with trainers on an off for the last 10 years. I have worked with trainers both to prepare for special events and to generally get in shape and maintain a healthy exercise/nutrition routine. What brought me to Shawn was a bit of both. I had a vacation and multiple weddings coming up this fall and so was trying to get in shape for those. I also had stopped working out for a few months and was trying to get back into the habit while also working towards specific goals. As if that wasn't enough, I was coming off of a really negative experience with another trainer who, while effective in terms of workouts, was not nutrition-focused and was incredibly unprofessional. So I came to Shawn with very definite ideas of what I wanted both in terms of substance and process. Shawn more than rose to the occasion. From the moment I met him, Shawn was professional, attentive to my goals and opinions, and totally engaged. I knew from our brief initial session that I wanted to work with him because he spent a lot of time on little details-- correcting my form, re-teaching me the basics, and explaining why certain exercises worked better than others for particular muscle groups. It was evident that he not only knew what he was doing but really cared about his work. I started working out with him once a week and then increased it to twice a week. I've never been in better shape or felt more confident in my ability to build and maintain a healthy diet. Shawn has a gift for balancing the tough motivator with the patient teacher. He puts up with my constant complaining and always finds new ways to challenge me which I love (but don't tell him that!). He also stays engaged throughout the whole session which I have found to be rare among trainers-- he's not on his phone or thinking about his next client. He's totally present with me and that makes me feel like he is as dedicated to my goals as I am. Finally, I will share that at the weddings multiple people approached me to ask what my secret was or to request a specific breakdown of my workout routine. While I have always tried to stay in reasonable shape, I have never been that obvious fitness girl so to become that person was so jarring but very, very flattering and I owe it all to Shawn! I met Shawn in June of 2020, a little over 2 months of when the lockdowns in the DC Metro area were in effect. Both my apartment gym along with my gym membership were on hold and I knew I needed to do something about this. I found Shawn via Instagram and immediately made an appointment to workout at the National Mall. I've had experience with personal trainers in Phoenix, Dallas and Austin but I felt like I made the most gains under Shawn's guidance. He was very patient and took the time to understand my strengths and weaknesses (and there were a lot of weaknesses after not working out for 2 months). After working out all summer outside, he was able to find space at local gyms which were a huge help to my progress. I was able to bench, squat, curl and press more weight than I ever have. Shawn also takes the time to learn more about the advances in nutrition and the human body to best help his clients. He was always available after our sessions with a quick question about diet or various exercises. 2020 wasn't an easy year with the pandemic and lockdowns disrupting our lives. However, I am grateful to have had the opportunity to train under Shawn as he helped me tremendously in between work hours. I've been training with Shawn of Gladiator Strong Fitness for almost a year and a half. In that time I've lost almost 40 lbs, built some muscle, and strengthened and changed my body in ways I did not expect. I have been working with Shawn for about 6 weeks and I believe I am in this for the long haul. Shawn is very knowledgeable and professional. He is always on time and is flexible in accommodating my varied schedule. The variety of floor exercises, weights and use of the gym equipment is ever changing. Shawn did a massage for me. He was super professional and came to my apartment which normally I would never do. I felt totally comfortable, most importantly. After asking which areas needed the most attention, he addressed all of my aches and pains, and made sure the pressure was appropriate throughout. He brought everything and made the process so easy! Most important, I was able to completely relax, and all of the areas that bothered me felt so much better afterwards. Sometimes I feel really groggy the next day after a massage, but I was I slept well that night, and had a great day the next day. I will definitely book more massages with Shawn again. read more

I've been training with Shawn since the beginning of the year (Han 2019) and the results are amazing! Even though, it's twice a week, I do other workouts at home (of course I ask him which workouts I should do) and I've seen great changes. I've definitely gained muscle and shed some weight. I have been training with Shawn for a few months. I feel stronger and healthier (he not only creates exercise routines but also provides suggested meals). In addition to understanding my fitness goals, he's thoughtful about modifying exercises to account for my back injury. Shawn is great!! I have had a number of trainers over the years and he definitely ranks among the best I have had. I am looking to get in shape and get stronger, but have had 2 knee surgeries and so its hard to find a trainer who can develop workouts to fix my imbalances and weaknesses while still achieving my goals and he does a great job at both. Shawn has been an excellent personal trainer! I have some health issues that need to be worked around and he's great at asking how I'm doing to make sure nothing it too much for my body, while also making the circuits challenging enough for results.
