One half of the gym. Just to show the diversity of machines.

TL;DR this is my favorite gym in DC. I have been coming here for three years after basically going to every big box gym (Gold's, WSC, PF, etc) and could not be happier that I did. This gym has everything that you need to workout whatever you need to workout. Weights, machines, etc. All great stuff and they always update them. What is special is how nice everyone is -- from The owner, employees, trainers, and the people that workout here. It actually feels like folks are invested in each other's fitness goals. So yes, come here. It is awesome. 10 out of 10.

I attended the HIIT-Fit class through class pass in the middle of the day. It can be real easy to miss this and they keep the door locked fyi. Once I was in I was able to check in easily and our class was in the middle of the gym while the other space was used for people doing solo workouts. They had all kinds of equipment and the class was great and challenging the instructor kept the tempo up and was motivational. My only complaint was that I felt we had limited space and it was hard at times to do the exercises. Otherwise it was a great class and if you are looking to get a great lift in I highly recommend this spot.

Nice people. Good facilities, but small and dark inside. Owner will work out and take up a lot of space during busy times.

You come in at specific times to work with your trainer doing specific lifts; the focus is on lifting rather than cardio. I wasn't sure about the approach as my primary goal was fat loss, but it has both been successful and gives a great return on investment of time. The gym itself is better equipped than any facility I have seen, and the UP app is been helpful in tracking nutrition and workouts. But I think their trainers are the key. I started working with Zach last summer, and have been very happy with the results. I've lost over 30 pounds and have never been stronger. He is a great resource regarding technique in lifting and motivation during sessions, but also makes them enjoyable. Zach developed and adapted workouts and nutrition throughout, modifying to help me continue making progress, and helped me understand nutrition (which I thought I did before, but didn't). The program at UP worked better for me than anything else ever has, which I find remarkable as I am in my 50's with a busy life including job, family, and travel.

As a repeat customer, I can say that Zach has been an amazing guide and partner to help me achieve results that I haven't had since I was in my 20s. I have been coached by professional trainers for the majority of that time, including D1 and Olympic coaches. I am happy to report that the entire team at Ambitious has kept me engaged, supported, and challenged the whole time. This is not only true of the coaching, but of the other members as well. At this point, they are friends. The workouts are programmed in a way that keeps me pushing myself while letting me scale back when needed. The coaching staff is always there to ensure form is solid or to offer an alternative if my body isn't 100% there that morning. Having worked with many strength coaches over the last 15 years, I am confident in saying that your well-being and safety are their top concern. This is coming from a former springboard and platform diving coach, whose first concern always had to be safety. On the member side, or team, as I like to think of them, I cannot say enough positive things. If I am out unexpectedly, people reach out to make sure I am okay. Everyone is there to see everyone get better, which brings incredible accountability. As someone who is not a morning person by any measure, I get myself out of bed for the 7:15 class willingly. 7:15 vs. the world. This has been a wonderful, impactful year with Ambitious. I am happy to keep life as my sport.

I signed up for the one week trial and had a great time! I was only able to attend four classes,…read morebut enjoyed each one. The instructors were really helpful and gave me some modification options. It would probably help to have some background knowledge of common lifts, but the instructors show the movements and they play on video screens if you need it. Everyone attending was generally in their own zone, so there isn't a lot of chatting because you really focus on getting the exercises done in the set times. I will say that the classes go by super quickly because you're always moving. Cons: The programming is set for the whole month. So each day of the week has its set program and you do that each week for the whole month. For me, this would get old (I really need variety). On the plus side, it does mean you get to see active gains throughout the month. The membership plan is a little pricey. I get why it costs so much, since they do have to cover rent and you only really attend during the class sessions. It isn't a type of gym where you just drop in when you want to use certain equipment. The unlimited monthly membership is $299, but in reality you are getting 30 or 31 classes depending on the month. Since the classes are the same all day, it is unlikely you would do two classes in a day, right? So the pricing is about $10/class if you do the unlimited monthly pass and you go every day. Some of the equipment was pretty smelly. I was at one station that honestly made me gag a little... I think the bench or maybe the dumbells had never been thoroughly cleaned with a bleach solution.

Always a great workout, well maintained facilities and the community is great. Highly recommend.read more

This gym charges way above market rate for a luxury gym. Don't get me wrong - the gym has super nice equipment, great staff, a cold plunge (very small though), and a hot tub. My issue with this location is for the price that you pay, I would expect the following three things: 1. A nice pool - for the price, I would expect at least an indoor lap pool and even an outdoor rooftop pool. For a lifetime that is supposed to be the highest tier, it should have all of the bells and whistles. 2. Less people at the gym: It is crazy how packed this gym gets. I understand that the location is central in Clarendon but you shouldn't have to wait for equipment when you're paying hundreds of dollars a month. 3. Multiple sport courts: For the price you pay, you should be getting full scale courts such as pickleball, basketball, tennis, etc. This gym should be a luxury club with full scale amenities. Keep in mind that this is coming from someone who used to be a Lifetime member, and I have been to 5+ Lifetime locations including ones in the same tier as Clarendon. I remember I paid way less and had the luxury of a pool/never having to wait for equipment.

The mens locker room is large, luxurious, and stocked with essentials like towels, razors, mouthwash, and other toiletries. The cold spa is a little small, with an occupancy of 4, but the hot tub spa can probably fit 5-10 people. The staff are all great and helpful. The gym is cleaned very well and often. In terms of the equipment there is pretty much everything you could want. There is a tank sled, about 12-15 platforms (many are taken for classes however), bumper plates, SSB, trap bar, football bar, an assortment of machines with the main provider technogym. Cardio equipment looks mostly standard to me, treadmills, stair stepper, assault bikes, stationary bikes, ellipticals. In the specialty equipment realm this gym has a belt squat machine, which is definitely cool to see. There are not really any cons to this gym, even the parking really isnt that bad. the garages are typically not even 50% full when ive gone. Clarendon lifetime is a luxury gym that comes at a luxury+ price. i dont think you can join this gym for less than 250/month which is definitely top of market.
