Glacis Beisl is another reliable, go-to restaurant in my neighborhood for a Wiener Schnitzel or other traditional Austrian cuisine. When outdoor seating is available, in the spring and summer, it's an absolutely beautiful garden, and one of my favorite places thus far. I really like their potato salad as well - being a fan of Austrian potato salad, I generally make a mental note of it along with schnitzels, and Glacis Beisl produces great salads with their schnitzels. Last summer I had an asparagus salad, as asparagus is really popular in Vienna in late spring and early summer, and that was really fantastic. I totally recommend trying any seasonal menu items, IF you don't eat a schnitzel here. On weekend nights this place can get really busy really quickly, so I also advise making a reservation, particularly if you're more than 2 in a group or plan to eat after 18:30, as is likely. On other nights of the week (M-Th) a reservation shouldn't be necessary. Also, for those of you who don't speak German very well, the waitstaff here speak English, so no worries! read more

This place shines due to its location. During a warm day, the garden is great place to sit and its near the MQ. Whether you're out for drinks with friends or grabbing dinner with family, this place will suffice. The kitchen is as typical as any Viennese beisl. Food is not disappointing but nothing exquisite. Don't go expecting to be blown by a classic meal or experience something new. The staff are all right, but being a popular place, the busy staff do not put any effort for you. Good luck if its a busy summers day! Very busy. Either way I would recommend you to go here during spring/summer. Sitting outside makes it all worth. The garden is nice (all green and away from street). During winter, the atmosphere inside is pretty dark and dull. If you are inside, the veranda is a nice choice but you can imagine how packed and loud it can get in there. read more

TL;DR - If you're looking for beisl dining in the city, this is the place. This place was recommended in our guide book so we decided to give it a try. It's *incredibly* central, located immediately behind the Museums Quarter, but is tucked away such that it's hard to find. You won't find it easily from the Museums Quarter itself - if you walk along Breite Gasse towards Karl-Schweighofer-Gasse you can't miss the sign for it on the left hand side; then go down the stairs and turn right. Hidden gem doesn't even come close. It's hard to believe that this secluded leafy courtyard is here so close to all the tourist attractions. The place is clearly well known though - it was packed when we arrived and we struggled to get a table. Sparky had some some amazing pork filled dumplings and I had a massive plate of a very tasty goulash. Prices were reasonable, food was good and service was polite and friendly although the staff did seem a bit pressured simply due to how busy the place was. read more

Very nice beisel in the 7th. We didnt have reservations but we're seated shortly....just all the way in the back ! I took the Chicken Salad and it was a large portion and very delicious. My boyfriend took the Goulash and it was very good. Great service and the environment is really very nice when the weather is nice also ! Will go back !! read more

Pumpkin soup was absolutely fantastic it is very European - chicken or beef broth base which made it very hearty and delicious not at all sweet like a squash soup. The deer Terrawren is very well done although a little overkill on the fat outside. The Wiener Schnitzel Aldo Rado standard have an amazing breading cross on top of them - portion size is rather large. To finish the meal ( along with mandatory beverage refreshment in the style of beer) we had the gingerbread flumary - which is basically simply a gingerbread putting - what's tasty if you like that sort of thing (ie the taste was fantastic but the texture is deafly on the soft bread pudding side) read more

Dinner on our second night in Vienna was at Glacis Beisl. We had a late lunch after touring around so we were careful not to over order. The restaurant is located behind the museum area, you take the street behind the museums to enter. The night we went was chilly so we chose to sit inside but that outside garden and patio is very inviting! We started by sharing the Grammel - knodel which are the dumplings stuffed with crispy pork. Believe the hype, these were an awesome starter to share. We both wanted to go "traditional" so we both ordered the Vienesse Schnitzel which was a huge piece of well prepared veal without a trace of grease. Very tasty and good value. Also had a couple glasses of blaufrankisch which we enjoyed here and also places we ate at in Budapest and Prague. Service was very good especially considering the large space which was packed with diners. Glacis Beisl is a solid choice for authentic Austrian cuisine. read more

Wow wow wow! Smelled good walking by late afternoon so came back tonight. Service was great - waiter picked wines to match food and made sure it all worked. The space is great - outside under arbor of trees and vines. Lots of specials as well as choices on main menu. From gazpacho to traditional schnitzel and vegetarians would be happy too. I Started with gazpacho recommendation and didn't disappoint. Then moved on to lamb curry which was wonderful. If we were here another night we would be back. read more

How is this place not #1?!? Maybe because it is hard to find. Take the time to find it! My husband and I came here for our first meal in Vienna. It was recommended by our hotel and it was walking distance from the Museum Quarter. We ordered the chef recommended Goat cheese/bacon salad. Wow! So simple but so delicious. Goat cheese wrapped in bacon and pan fried, over mixed greens with a nice acidy dressing to cut the salty, fattiness of the bacon/cheese combo. After that we got the small goulash...trust me it is plenty filling. I recommend getting it with the dumplings. It is not your typical giant white ball of sticky mess, it is a few nice sized slices of a well executed dumpling, and also comes with a pickle. Get a bite with all 3 of these at once...we were so happy with our lunch that we went back our last night there and ate the same meal all over again since we couldn't stop thinking about it!! It was very busy on the Thursday night when we went, but if you go during the week for a late lunch you would be fine. There is a beautiful outdoor seating garden area that would be wonderful in the summer, but it was closed when we were there. read more

Visited this restaurant based on Yelp reviews and couldn't agree more with all the positive comments. Adorable outdoor courtyard with trees and blooming hydrangeas and authentic Austrian cuisine. Service was outstanding as was the food. Tried a seasonal special of white asparagus and ham and was floored by how interesting and delicious the flavor combinations were. The setting (outdoor garden) was delightful. The food was fine but not exceptional--perhaps more a feature of the generally provincial Austrian kitchen than this place specifically. The decor and set up wondeful. It was too cold to sit in the garden but it was beautiful nonetheless. Staff very friendly. I ordered the pork with asparagus ragout, but apparently the German version of ragout is more gravy. Not my cup of tea, so told the waitress I couldn't eat it and she took it back with a smile... I just had them remove the asparagus ragout so the pork and pasta was delicious. Have to commend a waitress that will take the food back with a smile when the customer doesn't like it. Others got the paprika chicken and wiener schnitzel... soooooo good! Would come back for sure and recommend. Sad I couldn't try it out in the summer. read more

A nice looking restaurant with a great outdoor area. Unfortunately we walked up, so the only tables available were inside. I had the lamb saddle, which was nicely seasoned along with asparagus. But everything on the plate was totally overcooked, to the point that the asparagus was mushy. If things were cooked correctly, this place might've been a 5-star, as the sauce and flavors were nice, along with the great ambiance. Amazing! We wandered in at 20:30, knew our chances of getting seated were slim, but we were in luck! Bernie the waiter was incredible- we asked him to pick for us, Austrian foods- and the schnitzel, the pork dumplings and the amazing apricot dessert were all just wonderful. Glacis really bribes with its garden in summertime! Its great sitting there and enjoying the ambience, the people, the good food and so on! Directly at MQ its very central but also a little bit hidden. The prices are average but the food is good (mainly local dishes) and also the service is nice and quick. What a treasure, tucked away behind the Museum Quarter in a beautiful outdoor garden, we had a fabulous early dinner. We had the parougi entry that included salad for just under 11€ each. The meal was delicious and filling. The wine was good at only 24€ for the bottle and the staff was fantastic, very friendly and efficient. The waiter even took our cell phone to the bar to charge it for us as there were no outlets outside. We're in Vienna for 5 days so we hope to get back again. read more

Went here twice with antithetical experiences. The first time the food was fantastic and the service was fine as well. We payed out bill with a 20% tip and left satisfied. The second time was blasphemous. We ordered food and drinks shortly after sitting down. After waiting 20 minutes for our beers to arrive I asked another waiter if he could get us our beers. After waiting another 10 minutes, I was completely fed up and angered and proceeded to walk out of the restaurant very thirsty and hangry. I will not be going back. read more
