Had a very enjoyable dinner at Giuseppe's with my family. I ordered the canneloni with chicken and thought it was definitely 4 stars plus. We also ordered the bruschetta and found it tasty enough if not outstanding. Some have said the food was mediocre or comparable to airplane fare - not true. The food is quite good. Our service was also excellent and had no undue waiting at all. I'd definitely recommend for good Italian food in a friendly environment. (My only criticism is that the atmosphere could look more Italian - the theming definitely needs to be stepped up. It has all to potential to create an authentic trattoria ambience that would improve the experience considerably.) Lastly, the name of the restaurant actually is Guiseppe, which has to be a typo. The name in Italian should be Giuseppe (pronounced Jew-zep-pee). There is no Guiseppe word in Italian. Owners - check your spelling! :) read more

I'm not much of an Alfredo fan to begin with but after checking out Ed's post I had to know so I popped in for lunch this afternoon and tried the Fettuccine Alfredo w/ Sausage. While not my favorite pasta on the menu (Bolognese -- yum!) I found it quite flavorful. I do agree however that it can be quite loud at times. For those that are sensitive to the noise level, lunchtime was quite relaxed and conversation was never an issue. Also, make sure to talk to your server. I asked him about the lack of veggie dishes criticism and he assured me that Scordato makes a mean Primavera for those looking for something less meaty. And I posted before, they do not seem to mind special requests. Too bad Ed did not stick around for the Tiramisu. It was offered as a special and is one of the best I've tasted. Not too mushy or sweet; yet enough to satisfy my sweet tooth. I hope they start to rotate specials like the old Trattoria did. At these prices It is less expensive for me to eat out than cook for myself. Next up... Lunch Thursday at Bumsteads on Fourth Avenue. Will let you know what I think. read more

After reading other reviews we were a little reluctant to check it out, but now we are glad we did. Maybe they made changes after reading their reviews - Good! The live music was subtle and light, jazzy but not loud sax - perfect to listen to while dining and the guy was very good too. The service was quick, and attentive, food was very good. The manager come up after to check in with us that everything was ok. It was a little hard to find - way in the back of strip mall, but such a nicely decorated and comfortable place. My wife and I have been here three times and we are definitely fans. The food is awesome, the portions are huge, their bread is awesome, the prices are very reasonable, and the service has always been outstanding. We haven't had a bad experience yet. I love everything about this place. It's sweet and intimate. The bread comes out fresh and hot, the drinks are brought promptly. Oh my god- the bruschetta is the best I've ever had... They play excellent Italian music. Basically, if I could marry a restaurant, this is the one my parents would approve of. The food is so delicious. Every single time I've been here, I leave happy. It's great for everything from date night to a family dinner to a nice dinner alone. The only thing I dislike is that inside is pretty crowded. It is a shame that a restaurant that has delicious meals has poor service... My family and I were celebrating my sisters birthday so we made reservations for a table of 9. As soon as we arrived the hostess just pointed at our table while she was on her phone. It took about 10 minutes for someone to greet us and ask if we wanted water. No refills, dirty appetizer plates stacked on our table the entire time we were there. It was just a horrible experience considering it was a Tuesday (not a busy night) My sister came from out of town and this is not at all what we are use to as far as customer service goes. It was disappointing for we were looking forward to a great birthday dinner. The food was great though. Either way I will never return. read more

I'm not a "Yelper". I'm not a foodie, so I can't wax poetic about taste and texture of a tortellini dish. But having worked for Daniel Scordatto (the original proprietor) in the past, I can say the service at Guiseppe's was a disgrace to the family name. We arrived after a prom party just departed, so they were quickly turning the tables and seated us right away. Which was the first mistake.. We were seated before the table was set. On that note, I"m not a big fan of shared bench seating. It was impossible for me to have a comfortable and intimate conversation with my date when a stranger was sitting practically cheek to cheek next to me. But that's just me. Our waiter promptly arrived (good) and took our drink order. And then the waiting game began. He returned, apologized for not bringing our wine yet and asked us if we were ready to order. We actually had to ask if they were running a special, which they were. Isn't this table waiting 101 where the server starts with that bit of information? By the way, I went with the shrimp pasta dish special and it was very good. Nevertheless, the service faus pas continued. Looking around, I noticed bread baskets on other tables so I had to waive down a busser and ask for one. He never came back. We ordered an appetizer to start the meal off. It arrived on time, but we were still sitting there with no bread plate, napkins or utensils. A busser hurriedly runs by with plates and napkins for the table next to us who were in a similar predicament (food, no tools) and I waved my arms frantically to let her know that we needed settings too. I was completely ignored. We finally got the attention of another server who managed to bring us settings, but we had to flag down the hostess to ask a second time for a basket of bread. (The stuffed mushrooms tasted good, but they were a strange mushroom pate meatball looking thing that was scooped out of a vat and sprinkled with bread crumbs on top. Tasted fine, but not what I was expecting). We finally got our bread, and the main course arrived in due time. As I sat there dining, I could not help but notice there were several diners (mainly younger men) wearing tee shirts, sneakers and I counted 3 baseball caps being worn in the restaurant. Was I at Olive Garden? I thought this was supposed to be a classy place. We'll, I guess not.. but then again, there is a "sports" bar with TV's section that shares with the main dining area. We finished. Napkins on our plates and ready to get the hell out of there. Isn't this the point where our server wants to sell us a desert or some coffee. We waited and waited and finally got the attention of the hostess who had to go find the server. I gave him the international 'check please" sign and he returned a few minutes later with our release papers. The food was fine. read more

The service was like that of a new drill team in the army. They know their orders but can't seem to get everything quite together. One such server, Michael, felt the need to let testosterone flow into the dinner setting. My experience with the waiter was ordering an RC cola, and then asking for another one. He brought me iced tea. My apologies we that the two sounded so similar easy miss communication just please bring me an RC. He proceeded to tell me that's not what I said. One mistake in the restaurant business is to be rude to the customer when the customer was polite. Requested another one later and after fifteen minutes I got a diet soda. Despite Michael's rudeness, which the rest of my party also noted, everything was beyond what the word divinity could describe. With each bite the meal delivered a new taste that memories were formed. One had to keep taking a bite just to reminisce. Will return again, just not to see Michael. The bussers and Host were far more professional than Michael could even amount to. read more

My wife and I ate there for lunch today. The reviews drew us in but the food and the service turned us off. We had the stuffed mushroom for starters they were dry, Each of the 4 had one tiny mushroom with surrounded by what seemed to us like turkey dressing. My wife had the Cannelloni it was filled with really hard chicken and unseasoned vegetables. I had the Meatball Ricotta it was the most unseasoned Italian food I have ever tasted. We left most of the food there, not worth taking home. Our server never mentioned his name, did not offer the daily special and never acknowledged "thank you's" with any response. Worst experience ever! Food was cold, soggy and tasteless. We waited over an hour for said horrible food. I had to have my eggplant parm taken off the bill it was so bad. I went home hungry.Hostesses were scantily dressed snobs. Our server was a doll, but she was the only redeeming quality this restaurant had to offer. I worked my way through college in restaurants. I love eating out. I love patios. I love anti-pasto. I love Tucson nights. First time at Giuseppe's. OK, that being said, here goes: Four of us at 7p on a Friday night, with a reservation. One lonely, neglected-looking table on the patio - no silverware, etc. We asked the hostess if we could sit there - sure! No problem! She took us to it right away - without wiping it down or setting it up. That's cool, I'm happy we got a patio table. A busboy shows up with silverware, but nothing to wipe the table off. Off he goes. Finally, we have the whole shebang - silverware, water, bread, etc. Even menus! So lucky! Then...waiting....waiting...waiting....no waiter, no waiter, no waiter. Workers rushing to and fro, looking over at us, but unable to penentrate the invisible force field, I guess. Finally, we get the waiter who's serving the adjacent table to acknowledge us and says he, "I'm not your waiter, but I'll get him for you." Gee! Thanks, all-powerful keeper of the food. Then...waiter fight! No one wants us! Do we smell? Don't think so - can't say for sure....the last thing, I, a survivor of my restaurant days, want to see when dining out is the internal politics of the restaurant played out in front of me. I tip! Maybe I should've made that clear upfront! Once we got a waiter, things went better, albeit slowly. We ordered an antipasto and stuffed mushrooms to start, with a couple of glasses of wine, which came lickity-split. The anti-pasto is divine - all kinds of goodies you might find on a plate in Italy - prosciutto, salami, asparagus, olives, two kinds of cheese - little bites so tasty. I will come back and have this as a meal. The stuffed mushrooms are seafood-less - yay, me! I hate fishy stuff. Four to an order, nice for us. The main courses were slow to follow. We ordered some bolognese dishes and the shrimp special pasta of the evening. The bolognese was OK - not the best and I agree with a previous reviewer that the meat was oddly over-cooked or something. A little rubbery. My fave in town is at Tavolino's, but they are so much more pricey...this dish is a lovely 9.95 and the pasta is light and the portion is big - so, it's easy to recommend. The pasta special was also good with generous amounts of shrimp over fetuccine. No dessert - tooooooo stuffed. We had a nice time because we were all too mellow to really care about being sadly neglected for FIFTEEN minutes at the beginning, but if any one of us had been bugged by it, it would have been a different story. I highly recomment the anti-pasto, the mushrooms, the wine, the fresh pasta, but make sure to know who you waiter is supposed to be if you're sat at the lonely last table on the patio. read more

We took my parents out tonight to celebrate Dad's 90th birthday and everyone there made sure we all had a wonderful evening. The hostesses chose a nice table for us, the food was great, our waiter Jeremy was terrific and gave us excellent service. We ordered tiramisu for dessert and it was delicious. Dad was treated to a slice of cake while their musician serenaded him with "Happy Birthday" and even let Dad play his clarinet. We've always liked Guiseppe's but tonight they went above and beyond. Have been coming here for the past few years, a pretty ok place. Tonight I get there with my partner and ask for an outside table. The hostess proceeds to tell me that I should make a reservation on Saturday, she only has a few tables. I repeat that I want an outside table (only one was occupied). She seated us and left. We waited for 10 minutes w/out even getting a glass of water. She and 3 wait staff hung out by the cash drawer, saw us and ignored us. Tonight was the last time I ever enter this suck hole. I came to your restaurant, wanted to give you cash for food and tip, and your server and wait staff made it a terrible experience. I will also make sure that everyone I know hears about the crappy service! I would have gone with NO stars but yelp won't allow it. read more

Although Guiseppe's came highly recommended, my wife and I weren't impressed. It started off pretty good, there wasn't many people there and it was quiet. It's a small nicely decorated restaurant. The waiter was polite and explained the specials and the menu well. After that it got really busy, barely an empty table. I understand you sometimes have to expect slower service at busy times, but what I shouldn't have to do is ask multiple times for water, straws, desert menu's. What I ordered I couldn't have because the pork was spoiled. I'm glad it was explained to me, but that was after we had already been waiting a while for our meals. The food was ok, there was nothing wrong with what we ordered, it just wasn't anything special. Overall, it was not a bad experience, it's just nothing I'd be willing to try again. read more

First thing I want to say about Guiseppe's......Cheapest regular priced beer I've ever seen. 2-3$ across the board. Hell Yeah! I came here the other night for a wedding rehearsal dinner so my order options were limited by the wedding party. To their defense we had about 5 options. To be quite honest I couldn't tell you exactly what I ordered but it was absolutely delicious. The restaurant seemed to have a very authentic feel and clearly spent a good amount of time and energy on the menu. I will be back here every time I want Italian food and I'm back home. read more

Guiseppe's is first-rate Italian food. I don't get out for Italian very often, but this place does it right. I've been here for lunch and dinner and both are fantastic. If the weather is cooperating (i.e. it's not summer!), sitting outside offers great views of the Catalinas if you can manage to get a table on the west side of the patio. In a city where it seems tough (at least to me) to find great Italian food, this one is at the top for me. read more

First off, the food is fantastic. The stuffed mushrooms are amazing, the risotto that is served with every meal is flavorful and not too salty, and the bread is usually quite warm. The restaurant is pretty small so you will want to make reservations or not go on weekends because it will be super busy. Another secret is, they have patio seating which is usually not occupied, so you can get a nice seat and a bit of quiet. My husband adores the veal stresa, which is not on the menu, so you have to ask for it by name; to him, it's the best thing on the planet. The tiramisu is to die for. My mother in-law does not like tiramisu, but she loves the one used here. The other dessert that is incredible is this white cake with chocolate mousse filling. It's huge enough to split between a number of people after having eaten a dinner here. The service is okay. Again, it's busy, so don't expect the best service; however, despite how busy they are, they have done a great job for serving us every time we've gone. The only person in our family who complained about this restaurant was my brother in-law, who thinks he is a four star chef and has to complain about everything. read more

Solid italian food from the Scordato family, a long time Tucson family. THE best made from scratch italian sausage I had ever had. (Penne and Sausage.) Salmon was very good but it needed more than rice with little bits of vegetables in it. The menu seemed weak on the hot vegetable sides. I really do like this place and we dine here often (at least once a month); however, last weekend we went and I had something that I really didn't care for, which was the minestrone soup. Everything else that I've had there is great, though. I ordered the soup as an entree because I wasn't all that hungry and we had split the Napa salad. I highly recommend the Napa salad! I USED TO love this place but tonight's experience was so bad, I fear I will never return. We had guests in town to celebrate my birthday. We had made reservations, and were looking forward to a good dining experience. It was not. The actual food did not disappoint, but the wait and the service were absolutely unacceptable. The only reason for two stars is because the food was consistent, but every other aspect of tonight was sub par.
