Went in for lunch the place was about 1/3-1/2 full. The service was very slow. In the waitress defense she was doing all the work while other lady that either owned it or managed it walked around and sat outside talking on the phone. The staff was very helpful and mostly attentive. The dining room was clean and quaint. The food was mediocre though. The Chicken Parmesan was overcooked and dry. The sauce was flavorful, but too thin to adhere to the pasta. Requested some grated Parmesan cheese (note: it wasn't offered) from the waiter to help thicken the sauce, which allowed it to be consumed instead of just floating at the bottom of the plate. Interesting note: this Italian restaurant does not have Lasagna on it's menu, which is typically what I order to review / compare to other restaurants (as well as home cooking). So, if you're reading this, hopefully you won't be as disappointed as I was when I started to place my order. read more

This was the first time we have been to this restaurant. We are from out of town and found the restaurant on yelp. The location was easy to find. Derive was great. The waiter kept the bread coming and our cups full. The food was awesome. My brother and I had the meatball risotto and my mom has the cannelloni. So much food we had to get a takeaway bag. Today they were sold out of the parmesan potatoes we ordered to go with our lunch, and my chicken parmesan sandwich was quite chewy. FLATTENED CURLED WIRE IN PASTA. My wife and I went to Guiseppe's for dinner on Saturday June 24th. We have been there three times previously. This time we ordered Tomato Basil Bruschetta appetizer, minestrone soup, and Farfalle Bolognese pasta. The bruschetta was good, but applied excessive burrata cheese in proportion to the bread and tomato. The minestrone soup was sour -- vert different from the minestrone soup on our previous three visits -- and we believe it was spoiled. The pasta contained a flattened curled wire. The waiter explained that it appeared to the kitchen staff to be from a stainless steel scouring pad. Although this item was not charged, this was not the point and we felt disappointed. Otherwise, the wait staff is very friendly and helpful, and the ambiance is calm and enjoyable -- as I have mentioned in two previous reviews on TripAdvisor. read more

My wife & I had a 6pm reservation at Guiseppe's on February 14, Valentine's day. When we arrived they had no seating for us in the dining room & seated us in an adjacent room, which reeked of cigar smoke. (The room shared a wall/door with a cigar store.) We immediately asked to be reseated & were given a seat outside. Although a little cool in the evening, it was okay. It took quite a while before we saw a server. We each ordered a glass of wine. The server returned with 1 glass of wine (not 2) & told us it was on the house. Why? Because they ran out of our wine of choice! (Which was a common, inexpensive White Zinfindel wine.) Could not believe that at 6pm on Valentine's Day that an Italian restaurant would run out of wine. Making it even more ironic, is that in the same shopping complex there is a liquor store, maybe 200 feet away. I suppose no one thought to check the wine inventory & if low, walk 200 feet to the liquor store & buy a bottle or two. Wouldn't you think they might know they would sell a bit more wine than usual on that special day? Guess not. The service was very, very poor. Actually terrible. It took a long time for the waiter to come take the order, refill water glasses, refill bread basket, etc. I think we saw the waiter one time & another timewhen I needed to attract the attention of a servre for more water. (Remember, they had no wine.) The food was terrible. I have eaten Italian food often and say with no reservation that the food at Guiseppe's was worst Italian food I have had, even when compared to the food at any of the many chains (e.g. Olive Garden, Marcroni Grill, etc.) Both of our dishes were tasteless, that is bland as could be. We are 66 years old & have more Valentine Day's with each other behind us than in front of us. Guiseppe's single-handedly took one our of few remaining Valentine Day's & made a major disappointement. It certainly, however, is one we will always remember, but not in a good way. I cannot imagine a reason why we would go back & certainly will share our most horrible dining experience with our many friends. Just so disappointing. If it is Italian food you & yours are craving, skip this place. It is just awful. I know we will. read more

We had an awesome meal here! We were only in Tucson for the night. We didn't know where to eta on New Year's Eve. After a terrible experience being turned away from Bird because we didn't have reservations (they were empty) we read about this place on Yelp and called them. So glad we did because they got our party of 3 in. We had antipasto platter and then a variety of dishes. My son raved about the seafood soup. The portions were HUGE. We had great desserts. The thing that made the biggest impression for us was the service. What an incredible staff. Service was awesome. I really wish we lived in Tucson because we would make this restaurant a regular place. Thank you to the staff for giving our family a great meal and a memorable evening!!! read more

As for me have been coming here with friends and by myself for a few years now, and call it Home Away From Rome - excellent food, wonderful owners - has both inside & a lovely patio with view of mountains. Gave this place only 4 stars because it was difficult to find, not much signage for the place. But this place is actually quite quaint, lovely outdoor seating, great upscale place with amazing dishes, even made a chicken parm when its not on the menu. Based on just the food, I really enjoy this place. The spaghetti and meatballs were great. The appetizers we ordered were freshly prepared and delicious. However, our service was nothing to write home about. It took awhile to order, the food took longer than it should, and we waited a little too long to get the bill. I'm from California and am visiting my brother in Tucson. My sister in law and I had lunch here yesterday, 4/18/11. The food was good and the prices are cheap. I had the sausage penne for $8.99. The Ragout (Bolognese) was thick and meaty. I will say that the meat was a bit overcooked. I also had a small green salad that was nice but not exceptional. My sis in law had the Salmon with rice pilaf for $9.99. That was great. I'm amazed at the reasonable prices for a finely prepared meal. The portions are huge. The sausage ragout was great even though overcooked as I said. I really liked it though. The décor is 80s. Not slick like the chain restaurants. We sat outside in a shady loggia.. The staff was professional and attentive. The menu is limuted. There are only about 7 entrèes so it might not be the best place for kids. Thi place is great for cheap and excellent Italian cuisine. read more

Worst dining experience i've ever had. Went there for lunch with four girlfriends. Did not bring me my side salad when my friends got their salads. One friend waited 15 minutes to get her salad dressing, which didn't come when she got her salad. Two friends split a dish, but the food that was brought wasn't what they ordered. When they brought what was supposed to be the correct dish, it came with rice instead of the pasta that was ordered. Asked our reservation multiple times to speak with the manager or owner, to no avail. Waitress was new, and we are not sure if the fault was partially her's or she wasn't getting any support from the manager or owner. Our waitress indicated that the other waitress was having a bad day and that this was part of the problem. Overall, highly unacceptable service, and i will not come back to this restaurant again. read more

We arrived on a Friday evening with no reservation. Luckily we got there when we did because we were seated immediately, but shortly thereafter there was a long line out the door. I was happy with the ambiance and enjoyed watching the busy servers interacting with the patrons. Everyone seated seemed very happy. My husband ordered the Meatball Ricotta and I ordered a chicken dish with spinach and cheese. The server recommended I request extra spinach like she does. She was spot-on! It was scrumtious. I tasted my husband's meatballs and they were melt-in-my-mouth delicious. We were extremely pleased with the meal. And it was just over $20!!!. So impressed! We did not drink any wine or have desert. My only concern was that it was very noisy!! We were at a small table for two against the wall, and we could barely hear each other. Everyone around us was having a wonderful time.. but I am not so sure it was just that. I think there was something about the acoustics. Anyway.. I will definitely go back. I was very pleased. You get a lot for your money at Guiseppe's. They serve up well-prepared, quality Italian food for very fair prices. And as much as I love old-time Southern Italian joints where every dish is smothered in marinara sauce, Guiseppe's tends to be a tad more creative and upscale, with none of the affectations that are often part of "creative" Italian food. The prices, though, are wonderfully old-time, like a refreshing blast from the past. The atmosphere is warm and unpretentious with mostly friendly (although sometimes slow) service. Love the lamb osso bucco. Usually I don't like tiramisu, but theirs is so good that it's almost impossible to resist. And while it's true that Guiseppe's doesn't seem to have a reliable system for managing reservations at this point in time, their good food and incredible value make this place worth the wait. read more

I've been putting off writing this review because reliving the experience stresses me out but here goes...It was my sisters birthday last week and she had a gift card for Carrabba's but decided last minute to go local instead and try Guiseppe's. We had 3 adults and our 3 kids ages 2,4 & 7 in our party. They were able to seat us outside within a few minutes of arrival which gave me high hopes since it was friday night. One waiter grabbed our drink order and from there everything went downhill. I ordered the stuffed mushrooms which I actually thought were ok but my sister made a good point that she didn't find any actual mushroom, just filling. I took the filling and put it on the bread that was brought to the table and thought it was tasty. Thank goodness we ordered an app because from the time we ordered our food to the time it actually came was over an hour...an hour in which no one came to the table to check on us, no one to refill the tiny bread basket, no one to see if they kids needed anything while they moaned about how hungry they were. I was the most annoyed because I waited tables from the age of 16 through college and there is NO excuse to ignore a table. I quickly realized that the kitchen was backed up, but c'mon! That is when you need to be more attentive to your guests. Bring them anything you as the waiter can get your hands on the keep us happy. Our kids are really well behaved and we always have coloring books in our purses so they kept their heads down and colored most of the night but every 15 minutes or so they painfully let us know how hungry they were and asked when the food was going to come. Water glasses were empty, our one bread basket was long gone and the waiters were attending to other newer tables. When the food finally arrived there were no apologies, no explanation or anything. At this point I'm just plain mad and want to get out of there ASAP, but it was a birthday celebration so i bit my tongue. My sister liked her pasta dish, not sure which one it was. My brother only ordered a salad, as did my niece. The chicken on her salad looked a little off so we told her not to eat it. I ordered the eggplant parm and when it finally arrived I just asked for a box. The waitress said "oh do you need to leave?" I replied 'no i'm just not hungry anymore' "OK!" she says with smile. ugh!!!! I had also asked for a tiny side of alfredo sauce and I think it was $4 extra on the tab. seriously? it was about 2 ounces of sauce. anyway...I cut off a bit of the eggplant parm and noodles so my daughter could eat and she liked it. The eggplant was like a sponge of oil and the amount of spaghetti served with the eggplant was minuscule for the cost of the dish. I guess the point is, we could've gone to Carrabas, had huge servings for the same price, probably the same flavor since this was nothing outstanding and had better service. The staff had so many opportunities to redeem themselves but never even tried. We won't be going back. read more

They just figure you're an idiot, give you something else, hope you don't notice, and then argue with you when you do. The food takes over an hour to come out. I have had better food on an airplane, and that's just the beginning. Made reservations to go out for my mother in laws birthday (visiting from Australia). My wife checked the yelp reviews and seemed like a good place to have dinner. 6:30 pm on a friday. Pretty busy as we got there. Seated fairly quickly on the patio for a party of 5 including a 7 and 11 year old. Drinks arrived shortly after and they dropped a basket of bread. Never given bread plates or silverware/napkins (all the other tables had them) until I asked about 1/2 hour later. Had to ask for water. That's right..... water. Ordered app- antipasto. Came out in a reasonable amount of time, and it was pretty good. Then it happened. The wait... Literally took well over an hour for our dinner to come out. All the while trying to get a few more adult beverages, each round taking more than 15 to 20 min to get to the table. Finally dinner was served.....The meat balls for the kids were cold and hard. The veal parm I ordered was a bowl of mush drenched in sauce with a couple of noodles hidden beneath. Nasty. I had three or four bites and I was done. My wife had the chicken guiseppe, and my mother in law had the grilled pork- both terrible. We sent all the plates back and asked for the check. They tried to be nice and gave us some desserts to go, which were the best part of the meal, at home. I've worked in the food industry before and it isn't fair to blame the the waiter- he is at the mercy of all the other departments. Ours was decent enough and extremely apologetic. Showing me that this type of thing must happen a lot when they get busy. The manager came out as I reluctantly signed the bill and asked us to wait another 5 min so he could get us something. After sitting 2+ hours for a terrible meal, anticipating Gordon Ramsey jumping out from somewhere and shutting down meal service- you want me to wait another second? Grabbed my kids and split. My wife being interested in what he was going to bring, hung in there. A 25$ gift certificate for the restaurant... We are going to send it to my worst enemy this year for Christmas. Visiting Tucson and wanted Italian. Of course turned to Yelp and Guiseppe's had great reviews so decided to try. What a delightful establishment.....it was 7:30pm on Saturday night, the place was packed and we didn't have a reservation. Never fear the helpful, friendly staff got us a table in short order. Our waiter was over the top in his level of service. Our group of 4 hadn't seen each other in nearly 20 years so you can imagine we were busy talking and not deciding on food our waiter (I've forgotten his name) was just wonderful making sure to chk in but not bug is. He made perfect recommendations for drinks, appetizers and main entrees. The food was spectacular, flavorful, fresh with beautiful presentation. My wife and I went here based on positive reviews. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. The service was absolutely horrible. Our drinks went unfilled to the point where all of the ice melted in them. Also, the food took over an hour to arrive. We were told that it was because they were busy, but I've been to plenty of busy restaurants and they do not have that problem. The only reason that they got 2 stars instead of 1 was that my dish was good (sausage with penne). But my wife's (alfredo with chicken) was dry and disgusting. So disappointing. read more

Food was ok, not great but certaiy not bad. We were sitting outside wich was a great spot to be having your dinner, with the cool breeze and the view. The service however is a whole different story. Had to wait long before our server helped us, long wait for drinks. When food was finaly brought we had to wait another long time before we got the cutlerly to eat our food. Never got asked if we wanted more drinks so we had to walk in to order more drinks, we got them in the end once we finished our food. Decent food. Horrible service! Read on if you'd like to know more. My party of 10 made a reservation 2 days in advance. When we arrived on time for our scheduled Wednesday lunch the hostess informed me they were not ready for us. No problem, ten people is not a very large party and we didn't mind the wait while they pushed two tables together. While grabbing our menus, the hostess mentioned that they thought we cancelled because she tried to call to confirm and there was no answer. The phone number was verified as correct but there were no voice messages or missed calls from Guiseppe's number. We sat for about 2 minutes before a young man ran by and said something about he'd be over in a few minutes. There were only about 4 other tables with 2 customers at each seated however this gentleman was the only server in the house. When he did finally come over, no introduction was made, he just jumped right in to taking drink and meal orders. Water and some of our drinks were brought out, but we had to flag down the hostess to get refills. And Guiseppe's does not have ginger ale by the way. And that was a big factor in my decision to post this unfortunately negative review. A few ginger ales were ordered and the server's response was that ginger ale's come in a can and do not come with refills. Everyone who ordered one was ok with that. The third time the server was asked for the ginger ale's his response was "I figured someone else told you we don't have ginger ale". There was no apology and worse, no offer for another drink... After our food arrived, we were NOT ONCE checked on. When we were done and awkwardly waiting, the hostess came over to box our food, she took two plates to the back and returned minutes later with the boxed leftovers. That was very nice of her to help, but we did not have the time to wait for 4 more trips to the kitchen so I just asked her to bring the rest of our boxes to the table. I just don't know what the hype is all about for this place among my wheel house of friends and family, this place is just ok in my opinion. The last two times I have visited the veal was flavorful but as tough as Jesus's sandals and that's just sad to me. Portions are good sized and service is attentive but the place is a little cramped. I have been to Giuseppe's many times and have found the food yummy, authentic, and reasonably priced, and the service friendly. I always liked that it was a good place to go for a special occasion dinner without breaking the bank (i.e. many entrees are between 13-20 dollars and you can get a glass of wine for 6 bucks). The last few times I have been here I haven't been as impressed. We went here for my mom's birthday last week because we thought it would be still special for her but somewhat reasonably priced. I noticed that the food wasn't quite as fresh and flavorful as it has been in the past, and they've hired some servers who aren't doing the restaurant justice. Some of the servers are sort of like Red Lobster servers - casual, calling me "sweetheart," etc. and I wish they were trained to provide a more upscale dining experience to make this a more special place to have a nice meal. That said this is a safe bet if you're craving Italian food. read more

Then forgot about us for the next 27 mins. After several attempts to flag him down to no avail. Then when he finally came over he argued with me that he was waiting for the rest of our party. I reminded him he asked us org. If it was only 3 of us. The. He said we never take orders of our guests until their appetiZers arrive. I'm sure your owners would contradict that philosophy on a busy Friday nt as they need to turn tables over. Arguing with me on my wife's bday ruined our dinner.
