Visited for dinner service and ordered Garlic bread and pizza. The place was crowded so we were seated at the table closest to the restroom. This particular booth is not only by the bathroom that continuously had a line outside of it, but it's near the frantic kitchen/middle area where they keep their glasswear. Our server looked stressed, the kitchen was loud and the constant blank stares from the people lined up outside of the rest room made for an awkward, loud, painful meal. I felt the stress of everything and I was literally just sitting there waiting for food. When the pizza arrived I was disappointed. The crust is so thick it's like eating tons of bread. Wow this is one of the best Italian restaurant I have been to. The dishes were filled with to the top with what you order. My order was the Seafood Linguine Alfredo, it was so good it filled me up and I wasn't disappointed at all. My family and I absolutely loved the food here. We were talking about not having good cannolis and we saw on the desert menu that they had them so we had to try them out, we were so happy when we tried them. Yummy pizza - but a bit expensive - but to be expected at a local family owned place that takes extra time with its pies. The rest of the menu is "old school" red sauce stuff that is very bland. Huge quantities but not much flavor. I've had a few of the dishes besides the pizza and I'm always amazed by the amount of food and by how vaguely tasteless it is. Italian sausage sandwich should bite you in the mouth as you eat it, not make you look twice at the bites to see if there is even any sausage on there cause it is so mild and buried in cheese. We go to Giovanni's a lot, it's a cool small place for a quick dinner with family and friends. I love their minestrone soup, their meat sauce is delicious, I always order their ravioli. We've been coming to Giovanni's for 20 years - other than the updateed interior, NOTHING HAS CHANGED!! That is not a bad thing. We love their pizza, best combo around - awesome sausage! My brother always orders the Rig and Rav plate (half Rigatoni and half Ravioli) - the pasta dishes come with all the trimmings - soup or salad, antipasti platter, soda or coffee. I am half Italian and I make amazing homemade sauce - but there is something nostalgic about coming here with my boys and my brothers. The food is good, hearty and plentiful - the ambiance is cute "old school" and the service is always terrific. I am glad that Giovanni's is our neighborhood italian spot. read more

This place was not bad. I actually loved the interior. Very cute and quaint. Fantastic location of course (being in downtown Beaverton). I was quite impressed that the meals came with a little antipasto dish (usually you have to pay a LOT extra for that in other Italian restaurants). I ordered the gnocchi and my boyfriend had the chicken parmigiana and lasagna combo. First, I need to point out that the prices for this restaurant are pretty darn good. I normally don't order gnocchi at other Italian restaurants because it's freaking expensive. $18+ normally. At Giovanni's it was $12.95. So I jumped on that ish...and I was NOT disappointed. The pasta was well cooked, perfectly seasoned and the alfredo sauce was delicious. Now, I ordered two sausages on the side (because I gotta have my meat) and I was NOT impressed. I think the cook boiled the sausage or something, but either way, the flavor was cooked right out of the meat. Very bland. I was not impressed. The sausage should've been grilled or something. My boyfriend was not impressed with his lasagna. He felt that it was not well seasoned. He's a bit of a lasagna snob. lol. He felt that the chicken parmigiana was alright. I am probably the MOST grateful foodie for Giovanni's!! Italian food has ALWAYS been my very favorite cuisine, and it is the BEST (and I do mean freaking DELICIOUS) Italian food in the SW Portland metro area!! There's never a question, when I have Italian where I will go. The reason for the 4 stars is because their weekend hours are TERRIBLE! This isn't 1980 anymore and Portland isn't a dinner only type of city! AND, they aren't on Grubhub which I cannot understand for the life of me. It's almost like they don't want to do more business. Giovanni's lack of coming into the current time (while preserving their amazing, classic Italian food) has got to be costing them thousands & thousands of dollars each month. I don't get it! Excellent service! MOST excellent food!! If they could just fix that dinner only on the weekends (and several hours of breaks during the week which, as a former restaurant manager, has NEVER made sense monetarily!), and get some sort of delivery medium. Best Italian American style restaurant in Beaverton. So a few things to know about Giovannis. This place is mostly comfort family food and is known mostly for their pizza. To paraphrase South Park: "If you expect a fine dining experience, you're going to have a bad time. If you expect a long wine list with Chiantis and Sangioveses, you're going to have a bad time. If you are looking for Osso Bucco varieties, Veal, or some prosciutto and Marscapone stuffed ravioli; you are going to have a bad time." If you want good local pizza and it to be good dough, freshly made, and a nice staff. You hit the right place. This place is Italian American, not authentic Italian, keep that in mind. You get a meatball sandwich and they cut their meatballs in half and put them on a HUGE roll. It's not a focaccia style authentic made Italian bread, just meat, marinara, and bread. But it's usually fresh and well made from that. I like it as they are mainly a local affair and have been around for a long time. But they are always consistently a good quality on their pizza and at a price that is not that bad in comparison to say Pizzacato and pretty fast. I usually get a large takeout pizza but this place is great for my wife and two four year olds to come and have them share a pizza and a sandwich too. Just realize this is NOT FINE DINING Italian. So if you expect that and compare it to A Cena, Iorios, or Mango; you are in the wrong place. We've eaten here several times and have always found it to be a good experience. The place is clean and comfortable and the food is very good. It is strictly Italian fare and not too large a menu and the prices are fair for what they serve. A lot of people like their pizza but I must admit that it is not my type, too thick a crust for me, but that is just my taste everyone who has it seems to like it. Their pasta and sauce choices are fine and thats what we go for. They serve good hearty soups and lots of toasted bread with each meal. The salad is nothing special but we like their pasta. Last night I had the Penne and meat sauce and my wife had the Alfredo, they were both very good. They were very busy and the service was a bit slow but not anything that you would complain about. So I've been here twice now. Both times I have been welcomed with great service and really good food. It seems to me a more old school Italian restaurant than most these days. Definitely comfort food served well. Good portion size. I'm in love with the meat sauce. Put that on anything and you're good to go. The lasagna had an interesting twist, ham inside. I had the seafood alfredo last night and was very happy with it. The pizza seems like a favorite here as everyone seems to have one. I enjoyed it as well. Great crust. read more

I was underwhelmed at this place. The food was bland, service average and the decor is in severe need of an overhaul. Looks like this place might've been a great place to go at one time, but it got stuck in that time and hasn't moved. It's become dull and lifeless. I wanted Gordon Ramsey to bust through the door and tell us to stop eating and invite us back in 48 hours for the new menu and decor and see a new lilt in everyone's step. I would not recommend this to any family at all. The pizza is not very good and I found that the atmosphere was not intendible for families. I read some reviews that were not that great and seemed a bit unfair, and I think that even more so after my dinner. Visiting Nike HQ on business for a few days, looking for good places in Beaverton, didn't really feel up to driving downtown Portland. Found this one with enough good reviews here to get my attention. Nice location in Historic Beaverton, corner lot on Broadway gives a nice entrance in a friendly atmosphere both outside and in. Great service followed by even better food. My server, Sarrah (yes, two 'r's as her Croatian G'pa spells it) could not have been better. I was unsure of local beers on tap being from the Philly area, so she brought me a sampler tasting of four. That was a nice surprise - choose the Pacific Ale on tap, very good. The cheese garlic bread is hard to put down, the Minestrone soup was perfect and the Chicken Parm, a standard for me, was nothing less than generous and delicious. I noticed that most patrons leaving were very pleasant and made sure to bid adieu to the servers on the way out. I will keep this place on my list for future visits, just great. read more

So I don't know how to rate this place. I have been coming here since I was in High School. This is our go to place when we want a cozy family night out. My daughter and I get pizza and my husband and other daughter get single entrees. This is the 3rd. We got our meals at different times. Ordered the lasagna chicken parmesan combo. Both came in a casserole style dish. The chicken parmesan was very very rubbery like the chicken was frozen and then microwaved to thaw it out. Was not breaded as Well. Under a lot of cheese and sauce. Did like that at all. Lasagna was o.k.. again not typical ricotta layer. It was casserole style big noodles mixes in beef under a lot of sauce and cheese. Do not order either one. My other half had the fettuccini Alfredo. That was ok. Except again rubbery chicken. I was thinking this place was gonna be good but I got fucked. The presentation of the food was terrible but I was thinking presentation isn't taste. The gnocchi I had was undercooked, Smothered in sauce that was tasteless. We also got a tortellini that was mediocre. Honestly, I wish I could give a good review because our waitress was very nice and you could tell the staff were doing the best they could while understaffed, but we just had a very bad experience. We went for Father's Day, very excited to try a new Italian place, but it went very wrong. We ordered some pretty simple pasta dishes, and while our bread and salads came out quickly, we waited over an hour and a half for just okay food. In addition, we are vegetarian. We ordered all vegetarian food, even double checking to make sure it didn't contain meat. To our surprise, the marinara sauce we received with our bread was filled with ground beef. After accidentally eating some, I felt quite sick all the next day, and I was frustrated to have been served meat after specifying multiple times that we were vegetarian. We did go back and try their pizza which was great, but overall not a great experience :( read more

My wife and I ate here the other night for the first time. Our food was great and our personal server was great. The other staff were subpar. Multiple parts to my review: Food: I ranked this restaurant according to the food. Not many places give you a little anipasto plate and garlic bread to start your meal. I had the pesto fettucine and it was deliscious. My wife had the baked lasagna and enjoyed it as well. This restaurant does have an 'old school' feel to it. Great portions...we took quite a bit home. Staff: I'm not surprised, but I am disappointed, to see that other reviews have expressed the same concerns about some of the staff. Not much has changed which makes me wonder if they even bother to read the reviews of their restaurant. I must say that OUR server was great...very friendly and perfect timing on refills and dinner, etc. Concern: Apparently, the staff has a designated table in the corner that they all gather and take breaks at. One employee (the long haired red head girl with glasses...looks like a red-headed Olive Oil) has a very loud voice and proceeded to have an annoying conversation with her coworkers about how she 'likes black people so she's not racist'. She also had a conversation about gay people. She was very outspoken and was borderline offensive. In fact, considering she was at work and should at least pretend to be professional, she actually was offensive. I'm really hoping that someone of authority at Giovanni's reads this. read more

After moving from NY, I greatly missed the Italian restaurants that were all over! As soon as I opened my car door, and the smell from the kitchen made it's way to my nose. I knew I was in for a treat! The food is awesome! Their sauce is hearty and delicious. Their Italian dressing was authentic to my favorites back east. The have a great variety of favorite dishes, like chicken parm, manicotti and Alfredo. Their pizza is also as close to NY style as we've found out here. I live near by and was hoping to add an italian restaurant to my list of regular repertoire of restaurants which i often dine out to. But this clearly isnt it. First time, i ordered a pizza. It was one of the most mediocre pizzas which i have ever had. Im not a huge fan of pizzahut. But in comparison, pizzas from pizzahut taste like heaven. Second time, i ordered an eggplant parmigiana to go. It looked like a hotmess, not very appealing and tasted equally awful. It came with a side of spaghetti and it too was awful. How do you mess up spaghetti? The only redeeming part was the desserts. I ordered a tiramisu and my son ordered the chocolate cake. Both tasty. I'll be honest. I wanted so bad to love this place and find our Italian spot, but it really just missed the mark. From the outside in, the place smells amazing. Maybe it was the pizza, which I would be inclined to try out next time. Last nights husband and I both ordered the Chicken Parmigana and Lasagna dish. It comes with two individual sized dishes from each. The good, the booth we were in was comfy, it was a quieter atmosphere, the portions are generous and the garlic bread and cheese bread we got, was wonderful. The not so great, the red sauce was boring and needed some more flavor to heighten the dishes. The waitress was not very attentive, didn't seem friendly, and we overheard their personal conversations (weekend plans of getting drunk) from the kitchen, along with someone from the wait staff in the kitchen loudly honking/blowing their nose, which was not appetizing. The lasagna has ham in it, which I thought was interesting and decided to try it. It tasted metallic/ tinny flavored and completely took over the entire dish. I couldn't taste pasta, sauce or cheese, just metallic ham, which was disappointing and gross. The chicken parmigana was ok, nothing spectacular, but decent enough. More so than the lasagna. We want to come back and try the pizza, but as for a pasta or baked dish, I think we'll pass. read more

I went there a few months ago to pick up my 2 pizzas ordered by phone. After paying for the Pizzas one was wrong after she opened the box for me to see ; i ordered a house special with no sausage. What i got was a sausage, pepperoni, and canadian bacon. I told her it was wrong. she replied rudely " Thats what you ordered." She turned around and walked away after insulting me. After going here for over 30 years I will not do any business here for a long time. Just recently My brother got a pizza here and got food poisoning. The ham was green! 4.5 stars. Located in old town part of Beaverton across the street from Beaverton Bakery. We had A+ friendly service. Fast Friendly checked back often. The food is classic old school, kept old school, served old school. Some of us like it old school not any of that trendy crapoli when it comes to my Italian cuisine. When what we ordered arrived ....it was like it walked straight out of the oven and over to my table. No pause! The steam was just rolling off of the top. That is how hot it was. We appreciate hot food. The sauce was very flavorful in all of the dishes that we ordered. The cheese was plentiful and slightly browned on top from the oven. Also like how the bread and the salad automatically comes with your order instead of being nickeled and dime'd for separate ala carte like other places across town. You get the whole meal for one fair price. It wasn't the best we ever had ever, but we were very pleased with what we ordered. We can't wait to return to try other dishes. read more

Well looking all over Portland I was unable to find good Italian food until tonight. First the smell outside is a key the aroma of sauce is great. I ordered garlic cheese bread, salad, baked penne, and pepperoni and jalapeño pizza. Half order of bread is enough by far. The salad was cold and crispy with fresh veggies and sticks of mozzarella. The baked penne was great. The sauce is very flavorful and a nice portion of melted baked mozzarella cheese. The pizza is very good but the jalapeños are very very hot. The crust is cooked perfect and has great taste. )I would watch the seafood dishes. One was brought out and had a fishy oder to it. I am a strong believer that fresh seafood should not smell fishy. Plus food poisoning from seafood is the worst.) There was a large crowd for a Monday night. Service was slightly slow but I think it was more of a staffing issue. I will definitely return. read more
