My wife and I have been dining at the Rockford Giordano's since 1999; shortly after our marriage. I had been going there since the old Antonino's closed and Giordano's took over (sometime in the early or mid-90;'s); we even became friends with the owner (this is not a corporate location) and his children, who have worked there. We went there last night for Valentine's Day (our 15th year of doing so), and it was the first time we dined there since Giordano's sold out to the new company. We were expecting the same dining experience we have had for the past several years. We were so wrong, and so disappointed. The service was the same as we had always experienced: good but not spectacular. Our waitress -- while friendly and sympathetic to our complaints about the new menu -- had a tendency to disappear for long periods of time. The new owners gutted the old menu, and -- essentially -- came back with a pizza menu with a few side dishes thrown in. As an example, my wife always liked to order chicken alfredo with broccoli (a standard dish for an Italian restaurant); that item was no longer on the menu. I used to order the spaghetti with meatballs, but the price is now $9.95 for just the spaghetti and sauce (and $17.95 for something they call the "family platter," which is supposed to serve two people, but then requires couples to order the same dish). If you want meatballs with the spaghetti, that is another $2.95 for three meatballs, or $4.95 for 5 meatballs. Which means that a traditional spaghetti dish with meatballs is now basically $13.00; okay for Olive Garden, not okay for this level of casual dining. Their "cheesy bread" appetizer (which wasn't very good) was $6.95. Again, not too high-priced for Olive Garden, but about $2.00 too high for this level of casual dining. To be fair, their tiramisu was as good as we remembered it to be, and fairly priced at $4.50. However, their minestrone soup is now $3.95 (for a cup of soup!), and our waitress told us they no longer serve warm bread with dinner, something we had always enjoyed. And finally, the only ravioli they now offer is cheese ravioli; no meat in the ravioli is offered on the menu.. The prices on the wine list were higher than what one would expect from a casual dining restaurant. If the new Giordano's wants to be a purely pizza restaurant, then that is what they should be, and not have the pretense of being a real Italian restaurant. The waitress told us they have had a number of complaints from their regular customers, and many of those regular customers have stopped returning (no surprise). But the manager told us that for every old customer they have lost, they have picked up a new one (something I truly doubt). We noticed that by 9:30 last night the dining room was largely empty. We had never seen that before on Valentine's Day. We also noticed that there had been no upgrade to the tables, fixtures, glassware, et al to justify the higher prices. In other words, the overall dining experience had not been upgraded; in fact, the overall dining experience has been reduced due to the minimalist yet overpriced menu. The bottom line is that in my opinion the new Giordano's is now a high-priced pizzeria with higher menu prices to maximize corporate profits while offering the same or lower value to the customer in terms of food quality, menu options, ambiance and service. Oh, and the cherry on the sundae of an overall bad experience was when one of their pizza delivery drivers almost hit us when he came racing into the parking lot and cut us off as we were pulling in. Needless to say, we are through with Giordano's of Rockford, or Giordano's of anywhere else for that matter. read more

Hard to say if this is a real restaurant devolving to a sports bar - as is all too common these days - or a local joint trying to become something better. House salad with raw fennel was a nice surprise, but otherwise plain. Shrimp Picante Fetachini was interesting offering for primarily a pizza place, and fairly well executed. Casual dining with very good food. Much better choice than more common chain restaurants: better food, and better service. read more

Showed up with a family of 5 (3 adults, 2 kids) on a Friday night at ~6pm. Host was less than cordial, showing little interest in our group other than getting us seated and out of the way. I can overlook this if you're super busy...but a host's job is to make people feel welcome upon arrival...and that's something that we didn't feel. It was moderately busy in the dining room, so no surprise or issue that it took a bit of time for our waitress to make it over to our table. She was a bit brusque in taking our orders which made it feel like they were just interested in getting us in and getting us out...but that I can somewhat overlook...provided the food was good. With a vegetarian in the group, we ordered one supreme and one veggie delight. Given that it's a 35 minute cooking process, it's kind of important that the right order is taken and relayed to the kitchen. Unfortunately, 35 minutes later we had 2 supreme pizzas at our table (both of which have meat). Upon realizing the mistake, the waitress was quick to take responsibility for it, and was genuinely apologetic for it...but unfortunately, we were then left with 4 out of 5 of us being able to eat...and 1 left sitting waiting for the only option that remained. Our server provided us with a take-n-bake veggie delight pizza (partially cooked at the restaurant, finished at home). When the bill showed up, the server charged us for everything we ordered (including the veggie delight pizza, which was provided to us at the end of the meal for us to take home), as well as the "mistake" (extra) pizza. Maybe it's just me, but as I look at the fact that we basically paid for everything we ordered...and walked away with an unwanted/unneeded extra pizza as "compensation" for ruining our dining experience...that just doesn't feel right. Oh...and as for the pizza...mediocre at best. Definitely prefer Maciano's. read more

If I could have given negative stars, I would have. I'm not sure what happened, but they used to have the best food. We just ordered a spinach stuffed pizza from them for almost $25, but that was not at all what we got. We received a pound of watery sauce on top of rubbery cheese and a few spinach leaves mixed in all this slop. When you lift up a slice, its just a constant drip of watery juice. Took my wife, daughter and her friend there today for lunch. Awesome deep dish pizza. It was hot and had fresh meat and veggies on it just the way my wife makes at home. The crust was like a light flakey biscuit which was phenomenal. Very friendly greeter, the waitress was nice and efficient. The place was clean including the bathroom. Be prepared to wait a little bit extra for the deep dish since they make them from scratch but it was definitely worth it! We loved this place!! 5 plus stars. read more

I had a very bad experience at Giordano's today! Hostess completely ignored my mother who was waiting for a table with my baby in her arms! As I came in after parking the car, we still hadn't been acknowledged! I waited and was seen twice directly to the face and was still not greeted or anything! A couple came in about two minutes later, and were greeted and seated instantly!!!! While we were left still waiting by the podium!!! Once the hostess had no other choice but to speak to me, her exact words were "... and you are...?" What the hell was that!!! I was clearly annoyed and I replied "still waiting!" She rolled her eyes and said nothing else! We followed her to the table, she dropped the menus on the table and turned away! WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER SEEN FROM A SEATING HOSTESS! Apparently they DON'T WASH HANDS there while handling there food.. Because I got LETTUCE IN MY TIRAMISU! This is not the first time I've had a problem here.. Last time I ordered I was SUPPOSED TO get tiramisu.. But even tho they had my phone number, they decided I didn't need to know that even tho they didn't have what I ordered, they would just give me the "next best thing". The man on the phone was VERY rude.. I am very dissatisfied. And I will never get ANYTHING from here again because of the HORRIBLE customer service..... I will let all of my family and friends know not to get anything from here. To the manager that I talked to you need to learn how customer service works...telling me " lettuce in your tiramisu? I called ahead and asked if they could seat a group of 17 people. They said to come right over. The table was set up and the manager met us at the door. Service was excellent! Our drinks came quickly and were refilled quickly. You cannot beat this deep dish pizza. It is amazing. Wings were excellent, too! The manager even took our 3 year old into the kitchen to see how they made the pizza and gave him a piece of dough to use like play doh. My fiance and I arrived at 6:30 to eat great pizza and watch the Bears game. Our experience was great--until we paid our bill. We wanted to stay and watch the end of the first half of the game, and there was approximately 10 minutes left. I was finishing my glass of wine after our bill was paid (over $55) when we notice the bus-boy glaring at us. Although the restaurant did not close until 10 p.m. (it was approximately 8:15), he wanted to mop/clear the tables, and apparently us talking/finishing our drinks was not on his agenda. We were glared at, and in fact 2 times he waved his hands in the air in our direction while we were still sitting at the table, in a demonstration we were to leave. I was shocked--this is not a fast food restaurant. I have never had a bad experience in this restaurant before, and our waitress was lovely. It's a shame our fun night was ruined by the rudeness of one staff member. read more

Was in the area for business and wanted a great slice of pie. Giordano's is has just what I was looking for. I got a medium pie and it was huge. I should have never went with the medium, but I would be lieing to say I didn't finish it. Although, it did take two days to eat it all. Excellent deep dish and thin. In fact we tend like their thin crust even more. The toppings are generous and crust is not too thick. Only drawback is their pricing. On the average is seems like you pay about a 1/3 more here for a 14 inch thin crust pizza than most other places in the area. As such, we do not get it very often just due to price. What happened to us we were visiting from Atlanta looking for a house staying at a hotel, went on line and ordered our food went to pickup our order and it didn't go thru, the manager at the take out assured us if we didn't get a email we were not charged and also said he will put a rush on the order and he did we sat at the bar Joni talked to us we had soda snd water they paid and gave us a couple of 20 oz sodas to go. I haven't been to a Giordanos I didn't like. Food here was good as expected, and the service was good. On a seperate occasion, we had one of their pizzas delivered to our hotel and it was delivered in an acceptable time with sodas and piping hot. We need one of these in Iowa City, Iowa! read more

I love Giordano's! I love their stuffed pizza! But, I ordered a delivery online for 8.00 -8.15 and they delivered it at 7.15. I was not there to receive it and it put my guests in an awkward position. I'm expecting this was an unintended mistake.... But, I'm hoping for something more accurate in the future.
