I've lived in Chicago for a year now and have tried a lot of specialty pizza and deep dish but I wanted to try a super classic deep dish with the toppings inside and sauce on top. Giordano's is about as classic as it gets and they also have a great lunch special I couldn't pass up! It's not my preferred pizza but definitely a good place to go for some traditional Chicago deep dish. read more

To be real, my friend and I were trying to go to a quite fancy restaurant down the street but the wait was too long and it was too freaking cold to walk farther. Boy did I enjoy the food though I'll tell you that. So the bathrooms/ setting isn't my fave but the food absolutely hit the spot The potato fritters were moist but a little bland and not as fresh- still enjoyable I must say. Salads were good. Extra crispy thin crust was pretty frickin delicious. I've had the deep dish here before obviously but the thin crust really let the ingredients shine. The pepperoni stood up to the pizza, the cheese was melted nicely, crispy crunchy crust forrrrrr sure. Truly a delight to eat. read more

I won't/can't complain about the service at Giordano's pizza as they didn't seem to be doing table service. We ordered at the front counter and waited for our pizza. We understood a Chicago Deep Dish Pizza takes awhile to cook so we were extremely patient and understanding. We also ordered a thin crispy crust pizza for the kids (as they don't enjoy Deep Dish). Reviews on the Deep Dish..... Lots of cheese, average sauce, and bread. It honestly tasted like bread with sauce sausage and cheese on it. TBH Subway does this better. Definitely no comparison to Lou Malnati's nor Uno's.. Yes Uno's has a better Chicago Deep Dish than Giordano's. Review on the Thin Crispy Crust..... Once again lots of cheese, average sauce and the crust tasted like the pre-made ones you get from the grocery store. A good pizza starts with a good crust, and simply this was bad, bad on so many levels. I love coming to Chicago to enjoy a true Chicago Pizza and I heard people tell me that Giordano's is right up at the top for Great Pizza. I don't understand the hype, and feel there are many other better options in Chicago, even if you don't choose one of the previous two options I've mentioned. I'll be visiting Lou Malnati's next time I'm in chicago, and I want to apologize to them for trying something different. Lesson learned. read more

I remember Giordano's pizza more fondly than this. The wait was 45 minutes after the Cubs game, but they let you pre-order pizza, so that was cool. Our pizza was ready fairly soon after we were seated. So that was actually perfect. I was disappointed with my pizza. I ordered a personal size, but it was so doughy. I know this is stuffed pizza, but I remember more cheese (like choke on your cheese quantity) and less crust. Perhaps if I had ordered a small, it would have been better ratios. From asking locals, it always either Lou Malnati's or Giordano's. So I tried both and other pizza spots around Chicago. Giordano's wasn't that amazing food wise. The service was however amazing. The bartender was wonderful and definitely a hard worker. That's someone I would consider an asset to a company. I believe her name was Tiffany. I had the Alfredo and Calamari. Alfredo had no flavor, and the calamari was awful. Definitely was not fresh. No I didn't complain about it because I was soooo hungry and ate much as I could drowned in ranch so I wouldn't waste it. lol I felt as if those other veggies were unnecessary. I had a bite of the fennel and it was the most horrible thing I ever taste, it was bitter. I couldn't get the taste out of my mouth. My server probably assumed I was just full because my plate was still filled with food, but no it was just horrible lol. My friend had the deep dish pizza, I had a bite and Lou's is still my favorite. Also the garlic fries were great, but could you really go wrong with fries? Would I come back ever again? In this dispute for greatest pizza in the world, this place must be in the convo. Unlike any other pizza deep dish is an experience of mozzarella pepperoni and wonderful red sauce all put together blissfully in a pizza type casserole. Pizza traditionalists may dispute the validity of this culinary concoction in regards to pizza, but it's delicious nonetheless. This is my second Giordano's experience in two different locals, and both are absolutely phenomenal. Haven't been this satisfied since I left Don Pepe's in New Haven. First time visiting Chicago and my friend insisted on getting famous deep dish pizza from Giodarno's. As soon as I entered the restaurant the place smelled awesome. We were told it would be about a 30 minute wait for a table for 2 on a Saturday night at 8pm and we were also informed that we can preorder our pizza so we wouldn't have to wait much longer after being seated. Our pizza was supposed to be scheduled for 8:50 but the girl working the counter incorrectly input the time for 9:50 which I hadn't noticed. That was the only (kinda major) downside and because of the mishap we weren't able to visit more touristy spots because we had to catch a train. The manager was awesome and brought out a complimentary appetizer and two 23oz beers so it wasn't a complete bust. Overall, not disappointed with my first Chicago deep dish experience! We went here on a Saturday night for pizza. This location is no comparison to the downtown location. Nothing exciting about this location. It's similar to being at a fast food restaurant. Pizza was good. Not as a rich as the pizza downtown. It was not delicious! Chocolate cake slice was too small for the price ($6.95). I have ordered chocolate cake from many restaurants (Red Lobster, Capital Grille, Maggianos, etc.) and their slices are much larger. You get more for your money at these other restaurants. read more

They basically forgot about us once we were sat down. It wasn't busy in the restaurant so after about 15 minutes of sitting at our table we went back to the host stand to ask about ordering drinks. At least the server that eventually came by was very friendly. The assorted sampler appetizer we got came about 10 minutes after ordering and that was pretty solid. Boneless wings, cheesy bread, and friend mozzarella were all tasty. They told us the pizza would take about 45 minutes and it ended up taking over an hour. It was really good. All the ingredients seemed fresh and it was filling, it just stunk that it took an extra 20-30 minutes than we were told. So, maybe it had something to do with the Cubs being in town, but the service dragged down the experience. Be prepared to spend an hour and a half to two hours there. read more

When in Chicago... Deep dish is a must. After a day of bar hopping and walking miles on miles (this was a few weeks ago when we were blessed with 60s in Feb), we walked into the Giordano's on Belmont. We knew there would be a wait so we put our name in. We were given the option to pre-order our pizza so it would be ready when we sat down. We did just that! What a great idea...until the girl taking your order doesn't really take your order. We skipped across the street to grab a few margs and kill time. Our table was ready in about 45 minutes and we told our server we had pre-ordered. He checked and came back to the table saying there was nothing in under our name. We pointed out the girl who took it and our server disappeared. He came strolling back with our pizza and breadsticks. He clearly went back there and handled the situation and got us our pizza! The pizza was A-ok. Nothing super spectacular and tasted not super fresh even though I am sure it was....something about the crust and sauce being not piping hot. We had enough for the three of us and then some - so we had a pretty nice snack for later. Overall the atmosphere was busy, touristy, and "family-style" dining. The place was busy when we got there so the manager, Alicia, told us to order the pizza first. When our table was ready we ordered the rest of our food and let them know that we had already ordered a deep dish. The waiter confirmed a second time asking if we wanted the deep dish to come out with the rest of our food and we said yes. After waiting for 2 hours our food never came out. It was already pretty late and most people had already left so it wasn't even that busy yet our waiter never checked in on us and was avoiding eye contact. It wasn't until we asked where our food was that they started to prepare everything for us...... but it turned out they didn't even get our deep dish order. Instead of offering to make things better Alicia did not apologize and continued to put the blame on us for our order not being correct. Brought my friend from Canada to visit Chicago, and obviously had to MUST TRY the deep dish pizza. Wait time!!! Beware is about 45 mins for deep dish, so best is to always order online for take out and then go to the resteraunt and ask for dine in. No difference in price but saves you lots of time!! Ordered appetizer sampler; I personally did not like their sampler this time around, only mozzarella squares were good. Ordered a medium deep dish famous pizza; meat lover with veggies- pepperoni, mushrooms, green peppers and onions. Pepperoni was on half for my friends so they add a layer below cheese!! Pizza was great!!! Not a lot of veggies in quantity (I've heard Lou malnati puts way more toppings!!!!) But Super cheesy and really tasty! Got the cheese pull video - success cuz that's a must. Slow service! The pizza takes forever to make and it's not even worth the wait. On my trip to Chicago, I was trying out deep dish pizzas at different places and this was one of my stops. Compared to the other two places I visited, this was would rank second on my list. I didn't like the pizza much to begin with, the crust was super hard. Also one of my friends ordered a pizza with two toppings and they brought out a pizza with only one of the toppings. When we told them that the pizza wasn't what was ordered, they came back with a different pizzas with the pineapples just thrown on top when they should've actually been cooked with the pizza. Picked up Giordano's and Lou's as my first meal in Chicago to compare the two best spots for deep dish. I'm gonna give 4 stars to both but in terms of comparing the two pizzas, I would give the slight advantage to Giordanos. I'm a big sauce and cheese guy when it comes to my pizza and Giordano's definitely had better sauce and cheesier cheese. The salad from Lou's was one of the best salads I ever had because it had this sweet tasting dressing that was just heavenly. If you go here, you gotta go with the classic Chicago Deep Dish Pizza. Great flavor with lots of cheese (and i mean A LOT) and sauce. The edge is quite crispy which makes this pizza even more memorable. The portion's huge, a large pizza would feed about 2 -3 people. Last time we ordered 2 large pizza and 5 of us could barely finished it (we couldn't walk afterwards lol). If you love Chicago deep dish pizza, definitely pay this place a visit! read more

So many kinds of pizza, and so many pizza wars within each category. Can't we all just get along? There are folks that profess they can taste the difference in water used in a crust but I'm not to that level. What I DO know is that I really like the whole package: crust, quality/taste of cheese and its texture, the toppings (if applicable). I went back to my old favorite Chicago pizza chain on my last trip and was underwhelmed. The crust tasted of a soda cracker with hard edges, and the cheese was crazy bland. Bad day or not, I knew I had to find some decent Chicago-style pizza or else my palate would never forgive me. I've already shared that I'm no pizza expert, but one principle that I believe in is that the plain ol' cheese pizza of any place will tell you a lot about it. Which means that Giordano's is my favorite (to-date) that I've had. The crust had flavor! And unlike the old guard at my former spot, their sauce is SEASONED with herbs and spices that I can see and taste! The salty cheese strung out like a thin trampoline with each bite! One more exclamation mark for good measure! If you like cheese pizza, and you have the time (and stomach-size) for it, try a taste-off between G's and other chains. If you have never had Chicago style pizza, don't try it at this location! Go to a different Giordano's! Not my favorite Giordano's by all means. I was house sitting in Lakeview and decided to get a deep dish pizza for me and a friend (Giordano's is his favorite). Google estimated a 6 minute drive or a 17 minute walk to the location, so I chose delivery. I placed the order at 7:23pm on a Tuesday and was told there would be an hour to hour and 10 minutes wait until the delivery arrived. The pizza arrived at 8:42pm and was extremely cold. When we cut it, there were no cheese strings attached to the pizza cutter. It separated like triangular bricks. We had to warm our slices up prior to eating. Normally, I expect for my pizza deliveries to be tiny bit cold, yet this was just unacceptable... especially due to the short distance. Also the quality of the pizza just wasn't what I was used to. The sauce was skimpy and the crust was thinner than other locations. I wont be placing a second order at this location. read more

Good deep dish - i would definitely recommend ordering online. In store is pretty quick, but I've had one or two instances where I've ordered in store at the front counter and waited and after checking again in 90 mins they had forgotten to make our order. The pizza itself is good, but realize that you're signing up for the cheesiest deep dish chicago offers - not necessarily in a good way. This place was a good spot with good deep dish, but it wasn't our favorite. We ordered the Chicago special. I didn't like the fact that there was no personal serving size. We ended up leaving 3 slices because we were full. Since we are tourists, we didn't want to walk around with a pizza box so we had to leave it behind. The cheesy garlic bread was good and the marinara it came with was especially good. We each ordered an alcoholic beverage but they tasted watered down and the flavors were not the best. Overall I'm happy we tried it and it's definitely edible, but when comparing to other places, it's not my go to spot. read more

I'm weighting this rating against Frank Pepe's in New Haven, CT because Chicago was supposed to be the best pizza in America. I know. Two different styles completely. But for the 30-45min bake time, 30-120min wait time, and full day's calories/fat intake, this should have been PERFECT! For much healthier za, and a comparably (or even more-so) delicious product, no one so far has beaten the perfection of Frank's. Giordano's had BY FAR the best crust (Pequod's and Lou Malnati's were the others we tried). But that sauce was only slightly better than Pequod's (which was AWFUL). Sauce not the worst, but still too processed, sweet, and overly spiced with basil/oregano. Also, this pizza is "stuffed" which means you get standard crust-cheese-toppings layering, but then Giordano's adds ANOTHER layer of crust and then MORE cheese and finally that sad sauce. Service was also pretty slow despite the relative emptiness. EXTREMELY nice servers, but how does a caesar salad take 20min to come out? And my Italian Beef *which was quite awesome...especially with those kickass garlic/parmesan fries* took about 25min to come out, which pretty much defeated the purpose of me ordering it as a RIGHT NOW appetizer while waiting the 40+ minutes for the pizza to bake. All in all, BEST PIZZA we had in Chicago....would go again in a heartbeat. But if they would just co-opt Lou Malnati's sauce, they could churn out a product that competes with Frank Pepe's. read more
