People can be so picky about Italian food! I wouldn't call Gino's "authentic", but it incorporates a lot of ingredients that the central coast is famous for. The artichoke soup is a prime example. This place was pretty good. I used to LOVE lasagna and hadn't tried it in a long time so I ordered it after our waiter highly recommended it. It was good but i wasn't amazed. Now I like my food served hot, super hot, and lucky the lasagna was served piping hot out of the oven like some dam lava... this is the first time i had to wait for my food to cool down before i could eat it. Always our go-to for a consistently great meal. While I almost always have the blackened chicken fettuccine (and seems like I find their chicken fettuccine at a lot of parties too) I ventured out to have the calamari picatta. I loved it! We had my grandparents with us and they are sort of a challenge to understand (heavy accent) but the server was amazingly patient and kind. Small wonder they're always so busy. The only thing I wish were different is a larger bar area in which to hang out while awaiting our table. It's pretty cramped in the bar. read more

A very nice experience. The only thing holding me back from giving out the 5th star is that my wife's Molinari lamb tenderloin dish for $25 was shockingly small in quantity. Quality was there in abundance,as the lamb was perfectly prepared. But the plate was really the size of a small appetizer, certainly not acceptable for a full-priced entree. My wife and I wanted a nice Italian dinner and although she preferred to go to Monterey I talked her into trying out Ginos in Salinas instead. The hostess was polite and got a table in timely manner, and at the end of our dinner was nice with helping with our bill as well. Food was great! Sadly the waiter was one of the worse we have ever experienced. Started out good, taking our oders, his service basically ended with us there. He placed his attention on a table of 4 instead. Never even asked us if we wanted a glass of water, nor did he ask if we wanted anything more or how our dinner was. We waited a LONG time for our food, the place was not even busy anymore as many customers were done and gone. We asked for more bread, and it never made it to our table. Never asked if we wanted more drinks either. We had planned on dessert but were afraid to even ask since our bread never made it. After waiting around, we had to stop another employee to go ask for our bill. Finally our waiter shows up, but just set the bill on the table, and said NOTHING to us, not even a thank you? We are kind ppl normally never complain but since we chose this place over another, we left very disappointed. If you want true Italian Food in a true Italian Family owned restaurant this is your place! I have been coming to Gino's at least every other month since I was born! The staff is so incredibly friendly! I remember as a young girl playing tic-tac-toe with one of the waiters and that memory has stuck with me for life! You cannot beat that! The food is amazing! This is one of our go to spots. However, food isn't consistently good. I think it depends on how busy they are. For example, sometimes the calamari is light and crispy other times, cold, limp and soggy. Consistency is key. Also, restroom could be cleaner. read more

Visited the establishment in Jan 2018, for dinner. Haven't been here in some time. This was the worst visit ever! The restaurant is dirty, gnats flying around thick that you can't enjoy your meal! Worst service ever. The food was good, but our waitress knocked over one of our plates so we had to wait 25 more minutes for us all to eat. By then everyone else's food was cold. We were not offered bread, and even though we asked for it we never got it. We did not get steak knives for our steaks, did not get a crab cracker for our crab and she brought me bread butter not drawn butter for my lobster. When I asked for drawn butter, which it states it comes with on THEIR MENU. She said we don't normally do that, but let me ask??? We waited 45 minutes for take out! We only ordered two dishes and a kids item. The take-out waitresses did not seem apologetic or concerned. I get that its not their fault but they could have made up for it by ensuring we had forks, napkins, and labeled what salad dressing was which. You can not go wrong with GIno's. The food here is amazing and great quality. I dine here often. My favorite place to eat is on the patio rather than on the interior of the restaurant. The patio is generally warm as they have heaters, even on those cool winter nights. I generally eat of the special menu. I tend to order one of the fresh fish dishes they offer on a regular basis. The calamari on the main menu is also tasty. My husband tends to order meat dishes which rarely if ever disappoint. This is also a great place for lunch too. My wife and I have been coming to Gino's almost since they opened many years ago. Last night we came in for a "date night" dinner, and we left very disappointed. I ordered the calamari strips with raviolli. The calamari was very bland, compared to what it usually is... and the raviolli's were terrible! Tasteless raviolli with so much sauce it looked like a soup with raviolli sunk way down in it. I couldn't eat more than two of them. My wife ordered the sea bass, which was also disappointing. Basically flavorless, with a "fishy" after taste... typical of fish that isn't very fresh. We were not offered any bread, the wine was sour - as if it were left open too long, and my wife's lemondrop martini was watery. The waiter wasn't much better, as he was slow and seemed like had something better to do. He never asked if we would like another drink, and never even checked to see if everything was satisfactory. We sat 20 munutes after he brought the check, waiting for him to take our payment! Finally walked it to the front myself. It looks to me like the owners have gotten too many irons in the fire, with this resturaunt, a pizza shop, the Bagel Bakery, and now a new take-out pasta place. My suggestion to the owners is to pick a business and concentrate on doing it right. Don't take on more than you can manage! Won't be back again. read more

It is a nice place. But that said, my issue was with the cannelloni. While dining, I ate one, of the three cannelloni I received, for my $16.00. There was very little Alfredo sauce on them to begin with, but knowing I wasn't going to finish, I saved the coveted sauce, for my warm up. I've always liked the food at Gino's, the service the last time I was there, about a week ago was ok. Our waitress simply forgot about us. Young Hispanic girl, we kept bugging the other waitress and a nice gentleman with an accent, they both took care of us. My friend left a tip, I truly didn't feel like she earned her tip. We enjoyed the calamari appetizer and prawns, which were very good and fresh. For dinner, my husband had the half spaghetti and half ravioli, while my sons ordered the Gilroy garlic pasta, and the chicken parmesan. I also enjoyed the chicken parmesan. This restaurant has not changed much over the years, but the prices have and gew menu items are no longer there including the lasagne (my favorite) also, we brought a small cake for bday and was told we needed to pay a fee per person to recieve a slice or we could not cut and eat it otherwise. Food was amazing but the service from our waiter is the reason for our review. We had a group of 11 which is larger for the type of dining this place accommodates but we have experienced coming here and enjoying our time as a family. We sat down and the waiter's personality was immediately abrasive and impatient. My mother in-law asked about the specials for fish and Vinnie rudely told her it was on the menu, "right in front of her on the menu." The interactions continued to be some of the most disgraceful service I've ever received which only worsened. He actually tossed the check at our table, slamming the plates and silverware on the way down, put his hands up then stated, "okay have at it." We sarcastically apologized as he impatiently tried repeating whatever we asked regarding the menu and options. Vincent/Vinnie only received a tip due to gratuity. Love this place, have been going infrequently for at least 10 years or so, and they are consistently good. Last time through we had to stop. For mains we got our usual, the Pasta Arturo, which is a "simple" spaghetti with olive oil, garlic and bread-crumb topping. Also the Gino's Salad, which is spinach with a balsamic vinaigrette, pear, panchetta, and candied walnuts. Fantastic.
