So, I just got off the phone with the restaurant to let them know how awful, seriously terrible our meal was. It wasn't because we ordered it to go either. Because the crab sandwich was $24 and we had not eaten here before we decided just to get one and split it. I'm so grateful we did. The crab tasted like it was out of a can, & the toasted white bread didn't do much for me, the havarti cheese wasn't even melted. But the worst part, when I called to tell them that the french fries were inedible.... The management agreed! She said they've been trying to "figure out how to cook them" and they are "oven fries" Wait!!! What? You know the fries taste terrible and you are serving them anyway? I was seriously gobsmacked by her reaction. The restaurant is charging people for fries that they know are not edible. The person on the phone then asked if there was anything that she could do to make it up to me? Well, I'm never coming back, so maybe toss my credit card receipt? The one star is for the location. I'll drive around to spud point next time, and know that I'll get a good meal for sure. In response to owner comment. No, the manager did not say the fries were inedible, she said "I know" when I told her how awful & inedible they were. The kitchen & staff KNEW & still let us order the fries instead of offering chips or just plain 86ing them from the menu!!! You could have offered to remove the charge from our credit card when I called to discuss. Location is a great little spot on the Bodega Bay harbor. We ordered the Clam and Scallop Chowder, half rack of ribs, ranch beans, and the Bacon Caramel Monkey Break. All counter service and bus your own tables. They had an array of canned soda and bottled beer- beware of the soda upcharge! The chowder was good with plenty of little scallops and some clams, but really lacked the rich and creaminess I was looking for in a chowder. It was definitely savory with strong pepper notes. The ribs were well portioned, but fatty and grisly, again with a strong peppery seasoning. We could not finish half a rack in a single seating because of the strong pepper. The ranch beans were described as sweet and smoky. When fresh and hot, it was more of a spicy kick with the tomato base- at least when paired with the peppery ribs. Once cooled off and tasting cold, that sweet smokiness came through. By far our favorite dish after the sweet and smoky came through. We got the last piece of the monkey bread (to-go). It didn't come with the same gooey saucy caramel sauce shown in all the photos. The bacon and cinnamon stood out above the caramel sauce. This is the place for nachos. It makes fisherman's Cove taste like bleh. I've heard great things about their smoked stuff. It definitely has some smoke flavor but it's not a comp type brisket. But it is really good with nachos. They defintiely load up ok the cheese and all the fixings to it. Loads of guac and sour cream. It's surprising how almost all the chips have something on it. The buttery crab sandwich and a bowl of the chowder is a nice little brunch. It's not huge but one sandwich and a bowl was the perfect lunch before getting back on the road. The sandwich came on nice lightly toasted bread, full of buttery crab flavor with the havarti adding a nice mellow tang to bring it all together. Get the brisket. You won't be sorry. The flavors will make you crave more. The tri tips were my second favorite due to how tender they were while balancing with the smokiness of the BBQ. If you want a feast, get the nachos. We had both tri tips and brisket on ours (half and half). The combination of the cheeses and the way they melted them made the nachos a cheesy, flavor-backed treat. We got a chance to try a tasting of the pulled pork while we were there. We found this gem while on a day trip to Bodega Bay. We all ordered the same thing (a rare occurrence): the crab sandwich with calm chowder. Yum! Sorry, no pictures of my meal: it got eaten too quickly. :-). They have a nice selection of local and nation beers. We happened to spy another customer's order of their massive nachos, which looked impressive and tempting. Next time. The staff was friendly and helpful. There was a nice patio area for outdoor dining. Lots of parking and clean restrooms. This was exactly what I was looking for: a nice little secluded spot, on the water, but away from the crowds. It's nestled in next to a working harbor and residential community. What a nice relaxing location. There are a few overrun, crowded places in Bodega Bay, and I didn't wanted any part of that. Do yourself a favor: avoid the more touristy places and go here. Looking forward to our return visit. read more

We started our Bodega Bay day trip here and it was a perfect lunch spot! It was beautiful weather outside and I'm surprised it wasn't more crowded at noon on a Saturday. I didn't realize they were known for their bbq until later, but I'm still happy about what we ordered. I always figure you should order seafood whenever you're near the water, so we had the fish tacos and the clam scallop chowder. The chowder was super flavorful and perfect temperature...they should offer a bread bowl option! The fish tacos were tasty and I like that it comes with a side of guacamole and mango salsa. We also had to get a slice of their caramel bacon monkey bread after seeing it in the pastry case...smart food placement on their part! Ginochio's was a nice and quiet lunch spot with a great view. Context: Spent the long weekend in Bodega Bay. Cloudy and cold weather throughout our stay, which meant 4 days of non-stop pricy new england (and other types of) clam chowder. (With all that cream, no wonder Bodega Bay is surrounded by cow country.) And of the 4 highly rated and popular joints we visited, this restaurant's clam chowder ranks: ... 3rd place. Less creamy but more herbal, some may like their chowder more than others. But the one undeniable highlight is that they add scallops to their chowder! It's like bribing a teacher with an apple. A+ for effort, little Ginochio. Plus, it's nice that they also feature meat (tri-tip, etc.) for carnivores who are less seafood-inclined, but that extra credit assignment only adds so many points when it doesn't exactly wow. But man, their fish tacos are terrible. Go elsewhere for that. read more

Superb meal, definitely one of the highlights of my trip to Bodega Bay. The place is unrated. We got the clam chowder, brisket sandwich, and ribs. The clam chowder is so flavorful with clam, scallops, and perfect balance of cream and starch from potatoes. I had the chowder from Spud Points the day before and Ginochios chowder is the clear winner. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! The ribs and brisket were amazingly tender and incredibly flavorful. Such a beautiful day on the bay. Our first restaurant of choice was closed so we tried Ginochio's. It's cafeteria style, order at the counter and then seat yourself at a table. There are outdoor tables in a courtyard with a view of a portion of the wharf. I'm assuming this is why I paid $24 for a crab sandwich. No frills, served on parchment paper in a cardboard container, like a frosty or similar. The crab was yummy, well, because crab is yummy. Otherwise nothing special. read more

My husband and I stopped in at Ginochio's for lunch during a brief visit to Bodega Bay, and we can't recommend it enough. Amazing service from very kind people and incredible food. I got the Dungeness crab sandwich and it was absolutely delicious and so fresh. My husband got "The Moo" with the brisket and he absolutely loved it. The location is beautiful, right near the docks with a pretty view of the bay. Ginochio's Kitchen So, we were driving south on Rt 1 in California, and made a wrong turn while seeking lunch in Bodega Bay, when my wife decided to see what might be at our waterfront dead-end. I am glad she did, as we discovered Ginochio's Kitchen (and enjoyed the dining courtyard shared with its neighbor, Gourmet Au Bay). Our neighbors were friendly, and our dog was welcome at the outdoor dining room (which had a small indoor room as well). When I looked at the menu, I was torn between the pricey Buttery Dungeness Crab Sandwich ($24.95), and the Clam & Scallop Chowder ($13.95); I did what I often would not: I had both. The crab sandwich was amazing, and the crab was the freshest and best I'd tasted on a sandwich, but I missed the Havarti and scallions; they may have been hiding subtly. The chowder was actually the best I have ever eaten, and I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area growing up, and for nineteen of my recent adult years. They paired scallops with the clams, and must have used heavy cream. There was zero taste of any floury filler, or cornstarch. And I don't even really like scallops. Amazing, highest rating. The service was excellent. We don't like to drop a ton of money on most lunches, and do budget our money, but sitting in the open-air patio with glass walls and a beautiful view of Bodega Bay with kind fellow diners, the bill didn't shake us. Our car club (the Vaca Valley Vettes) had lunch at Ginochio's Kitchen and it was incredible! Their menu offers a wide variety of food choices, and the food was delicious. We were a group of 22 and they handled our dining needs in a very quick and efficient manner. We will definitely be coming back the next time we're in Bodega Bay.
