Great place for breakfast. Strong coffee, too bad they don't have flavored creamer. But, it is what it is. The staff is pretty friendly. Spenser is great, I've been there a few times, maybe 4-5, in the last 6 months and he remembered me. That's a good server!!! The food is tasty. I like their omelettes, especially the West Coast. Yummy. Their seasoned potatoes are the best in the city! A bit of a crunch on the outside and tender inside. The seasoning is rosemary, salt, and other herbs. Also, I like that you can get one pancake as a side. It's big enough to split between 2 people or take the left overs home. It reheats well. I think their serving are generous sizes. This place is so amazing! I came here with a friend Saturday morning for brunch around 10:30am, and the wait wasn't long at all (Max 10 mins!). I got an omelette and my friend got the pancakes. Amazing service!! The first time I came, I was playing music for a wedding and was super crunched on time. asked how long the normal wait for food was, because I only had about a half hour or less, and the host/manager said he would get us taken care of and have the food on our table in 15 minutes or less. Everyone was friendly and helpful, and the food was pretty great as well! I've gone since then, and the service has been just as good. If it were possible to give zero stars I would. Service was nice and quick to begin. I had a party of 4. Two of which ordered the Ginger Sue's Classic with unseasoned bacon. Now, I like the under cooked bacon, but this was just one second over raw. We simply asked for it to be cooked a little more. Server said, "Hang on." She disappeared for 5 minutes. Came back and said new bacon would be out soon. It did eventually arrive after the entire table was done eating. The bill came and we were charged for 2 extra bacon orders-$6 for 6 small slices. We questioned our server who went and got her manager. The manager proceeded to lecture us on how we ordered incorrectly and that they can't take the bacon back so that's why a new order was brought. We understand that, but this was not our fault and should not be at our expense. Especially because we weren't even told that would be happening! The worst part was the manager saying, "No!" to our complaints. Excuse me? We are the customer! Needless to say, this manager has made it impossible for us to ever return. read more

Though the food is anywhere from average to good the staff consists almost completely of 14-16 year olds. This would not be an issue except for the fact that it operates as if it was completely staffed by 14-16 year olds. The service is poor to say the least and trying to find an adult is quite an undertaking. If you'd like to pay average to high prices for average to good quality food with poor service this is the place for you. If it wasn't for the wife's parents I'd never come here again. FYI this is not our first time here and the service seems to be consistently poor. read more

The most outstanding breakfast I've had in the past month. I travel a bunch for work and frequently search for local owned favorites. This definitely fits the bill. I had the classic with poached eggs and the specialty pancake of the day, "cinnamon roll pancake." I loved the them both. I'm in town all week and will be returning. If you are trying to choose between places then quit contemplating and just go to Ginger Sue's. The service was top notch and I had a full cup of coffee continually. Delightful! I got the crab and andouille sausage benedict, which had real huge chunks of crab in it! The staff were all very friendly, the space was open and clean, and we had a wonderful time. Only open 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 pm. EXCELLENT FOOD. I had the Country Fried Steak. Hubby had Eggs Benedict and Biscuits and Gravy. All was plentiful. Only complaint was the green beans were not very flavorful. And the floors needed to be mopped. They were a total mess. But otherwise very clean. The food was great - the biscuits are really good! I didn't find a 'scrambler' on the menu so requested it and it was cooked to order. Very nice. I found the service somewhat lacking though; I think I must have had a new server. She didn't quite have the timing down between "I need to look over the menu" from me and "what would you like to order?" from her. I didn't get much attention and had to 'flag' her for service a couple of times, while the server at the next table was very attentive and chatty to her customers. What was most disconcerting though was that the serving staff swept floor debris into dustpans and then picked up food orders and served them. no gloves. no evidence of hand-washing in between. also, the wait stuff buzzed around the front of the restaurant like bees. read more

I really enjoyed my breakfast at Ginger sues. The atmosphere is somewhat plain but it is clean and very bright. The atmosphere is certainly nothing special but the food was very good.The service was excellent. The Ginger Sues breakfast was a lot of food for the price. It was very tasty. Could be pretty good if you could sit with the waitress you wanted. Very disappointed in the way the manager treated an elderly friend and won't go back again. The visit started and ended wrong. It wouldn't have happened if he would have been more congenial and let us have the waitress that was asked for!!! He handled the entire visit in a very unreal way for a manager of a business dealing with all ages. We spent lots of $$ during a year, but obviously, he could care less!! There always was a slightly cold atmosphere, but having our favorite waitress made our day. I brought my sisters in for brunch for the first time, and we will never return. Our names were placed on the list and were told they would yell our parties name when the table is ready. When our name was called, unbeknownst to us, someone else took our table. After 20 minutes, we asked how much longer, we were told we missed our table. Once we were seated, a question was asked regarding an item on the menu, the waitress didn't seem to want to ask about accommodations, so she settled for something else. An order of bacon was placed and it was completely burnt. We picked around the pieces that were edible. When our waitress made it to our table, we told her the bacon was burnt; her response, "okay." Her manager came over and the same response. The manager and her response was the same. The manager and another employee stood in a corner and stared at us as if we were being talked about. Although we try not to make it racial, it sure seemed that way. The staff was unapologetic, unaccommodating, andI hate I drove 40 minutes for a horrible experience. read more

I was sadly disappointed by my breakfast this morning at Ginger Sue's. The only reason I'm giving this two stars is because the service was excellent and the restaurant was clean and inviting. Based on the food alone, this would be a one star review. The pancakes were generously sized, but tough and flavorless; syrup did not help. The eggs (if you could call them that) were greasy and undercooked. I see that the sweet, peppered bacon got rave reviews from some, but it was not my cup of tea. My husband had a breakfast burrito which he said was quite bland; however, he did enjoy the breakfast potatoes very much. Overall, the quality of the food is more what I would expect from a dingy diner rather than a suburban "bruncheonette." We will not be returning. read more

We were there the weekend they opened and have been there several times since. They have never disappointed. Ginger Sues is clean and bright, staff is friendly and attentive. BUYER'S BEWARE!! I went to this restaurant and what I ordered after the first bite; did not sit right with me. I was not happy with the seasonings or pairings of flavors. I told the wait staff that and the wait staff asked if I wanted something else to order. I did. That food order was presented to me with horrible customer service in basically throwing it down on the table and not taking away the other plate of food. When I was given the bill, it showed I owed for 2 plates of food. I asked to speak to the manager and his response was "We do not do a tasting menu and so yes, you need to pay for both plates of food". He said this was the restaurant's policy. Things can go wrong in a kitchen all of the time. I know that to be true. I have worked in the restaurant industry. I have never heard of this policy. I contacted another one of their restaurants and that manager also told me that is their policy. I asked where it was stated on the menu. Her response was that they don't have that on the menu but if you asked ahead of time, they would have told you that policy. Have you ever been to a restaurant where you ask before you order, if you are unhappy with your entree, you can not return it?????? Never will I go to Ginger Sue's again and I will make sure all of my friends in the Olathe area, Liberty area and Lee's Summit area know not to go to this restaurant.
