Gina's BBQ in Market City Shopping Center - in Kaimuki, or is it Kapahulu...possibly Mo'ili'ili - has bewn here for awhile and established a reputation amongst locals. It is for takeout...it is essentially a hole-in-the-wall eatery. I requested the Mini Meat Jun for takeaway, which comes with two banchan choices. I can't recall having eaten at Gina's previously; I have only been to the Kapolei location, and their meat jun was a bit disappointing. Today, I chose the kim chee and choy sum. Both were excellent. The meat jun was thinly battered and sliced...any thinner and I'd call it anorexic...ahem. It was good but the sweet and tangy sauce kind of threw off the dish. Also, a bit too much rice. A bit disappointing for the price, $16. I am tempted to try thr Kalbi but we'll see.

Our go to place for Korean food for over 35 years! I can't believe I didn't review this place yet. The food is good, portions are very generous, and the service is excellent. The place is very welcoming and I've only done take-out, although they're seats alnog the counter if you want to eat there. Parking is out front for the entire Market City and I've never had a problem finding a stall. The place can get bustling with all the orders stacked up but it only reassures you that you're not the only one that likes the food here. Over the years, I've tried almost everything on the menu and I've never been disappointed. Even the sides are all good. I've also catered a lot for get-togethers and parties. Highly recommended if you want good Korean food!

Meat Jun & Mandoo

We had a craving for Meat Jun/Korean food. We stopped in here around 530p on Super Bowl Sunday and there was nobody there! Very friendly and welcoming ladies. It's takeout only. Their portions were huge! We had a choice of 4 veges. It was soooo delish and cured the crave. I only wish that I could have finished the whole plate. This will be our go to Korean food takeout spot! Yummers!!

I really wanted to like the food here more, but it just wasn't that good. Gina's is a takeout only Korean bbq spot. There are a few seats inside to wait for your food, but nowhere inside to eat - so everything is to go. The service is really nice and efficient, but the food is a bit wanting. I got the spicy bbq chicken plate. The regular plate comes with 4 sides of your choice, and the portions are all around generous. I put my plate on the scale when I got home and it was literally 3 pounds of food! I just wish there was more flavor. Most of the sides were ok except the mac salad, which needed more salt and felt very gloopy with an excessive amount of mayo. The main entree - the "bbq" chicken - was on the drier side. The spicy sauce helped, but I have a hard time believing this chicken spent much time on a bbq at all. There was hardly any char and no grill marks at all! It's a generous amount of food for the price tag (spicy bbq chicken plate was about $20) and can easily be split into two or three meals, but there is room to improve on flavor!

Chicken & Beef - dry, no flavor, meat tough!

I was at T-Mobile this morning and a few doors down was Gina's. Had never been here before! Decided to get their Mini Bento. Choice of two sides with Chicken & Bulgogi (marinated beef). Lots of food for a Mini Bento. Sadly the food was very disappointing. Rice and side dishes were decent. The Chicken was dry and tasteless. Beef tasteless and tough to even chew and was thrown out. There are so many better Korean take out places in Honolulu. I won't be back! P.S. After posting this, I read the most recent Yelp reviews for Gina's. Should have done that before going!

The BBQ plates here at Gina are hefty and that's how we like it. Growing up my parents would treat the family to Gina's BBQ monthly. It was a comforting delicious meal we always looked forward to. Service here is prompt and quick. Be sure to double check and repeat your order. I ordered both plates no rice with veggies but during pick up only one of the plates was no rice. The meat Jun today was very dry. I was surprised by that because the meat Jun is thin. The BBQ chicken was dry but well seasoned. The Kalibi was cooked nicely. Maybe today was an odd day for them. The inside space is small and there is no where to dine in anymore. Please enjoy your meals elsewhere. Phone in during peak times to help reduce wait time upon arrival.

Today I got to try Gina's Special and it was a lot and very tasty. Also, they were very friendly and helpful.

Meat Jun & Hot Fried Chicken Wing Combo Plate

I used to love coming to Gina's as a kid & all throughout high school. They always gave a lot & were pretty consistent for the most part. Over the years, things have changed. Although the store itself looks the exact same, quality has gone a bit down & I think possibly new owners have taken over. There aren't as many sides as they used to have & the food quality just isn't as good. Their meat jun is still pretty good, but you can definitely find better elsewhere. I used to love the hot fried chicken wings, however the batter was basically falling off the chicken and had a gummy, not crispy, texture. The chicken itself seemed a bit undercooked. My bf had the kalbi and bbq chicken and both were pretty dry. I'm really hoping Gina's can turn things around because I would hate to see a place like this close down after all these years.

Mini family pack
Amanda K.

Got the mini family pack and a meat Jun plate. Total came out to $70. The mini family pack came with 3 pc kalbi, 3 pc bulgogi, 3 pc bbq chicken, 5 pc mandoo & 5 pc meat jun. The meat Jun and mandoo was good. But most of the family mini pack was not good at all. We ended up throwing most of it away. Chicken and bulgogi was tasteless. The kalbi was just sad and the taste was off. And the sides the canbbage was sour the next day. Can't say I'll be back.

So so so over cooked, not edible at all!!! Do not recommend chicken katsu
Wenz T.

Used to be a neighborhood gem/a "go to" for great Korean food. Not sure what's going on . . . Ordered Chicken Katsu, to say it was over cooked, would not give the true essence of how OVER cooked it was. Closer to burnt. Extremely hard, chicken didn't even resemble chicken, more like chicken jerky. From the looks of it, it seems as if they "pre-fry" the Katsu, then fry it again when the order is placed. But in my case, it looks as if it might have been a 3rd or 4th fry. Would recommend Honu's down the street on Kapahulu. Although, Gina's Ban Chan is very delicious and can't be beat, happy to see that hasn't changed. I don't think I'll be going back!!! If I do, I will NOT order anything deep fried!!!

Spicy bbq ika
Marisa G.

I love picking up food from Gina's whenever I'm in the area. Their spicy bbq ika is my favorite and I love the kimchi radish and taegu banchans! My most recent visit, they didn't cut the ika up like they usually do so I asked nicely and they said okay for this time. Weird. When I got home, their ika tasted different. Much more tough to eat. My teeth are sensitive and their ika is usually always tender so I thought maybe just a bad day. Then I heard that they changed owners... so that explains a lot. Next time I might not get the ika... I'll try something else :)

Love Gina's! Got the bbq chicken mini plate with cabbage and glass noodles. Huge portion for a good price! Staff were very nice and helped us figure out what to order. The cabbage was soooo good... it was addicting! The chicken was also super yummy and moist with nice flavor. I haven't had glass noodles in a long time, but these were super flavorful and cooked perfectly. Definitely check this place out in Honolulu.

This was the sauce I asked for the fish Jun
Lingling P.

I ordered fish jun and Kalbi meat x plate. When I got the plate I saw an orange sauce condiment thinking that was for the spring rolls they give as complimentary. I asked the server can I have the fish jun sauce. She said it's the orange sauce one. I tried tested with the fish jun and I did NOT like it with the fish Jun. that orange sauce didnt go well with the fish Jun. so I went back to ask her, for another fish Jun sauce. She told me there's an extra charge(.50) for another sauce or exchange for that one sauce. I was like you're gonna take that one sauce back after I already dipped the fish Jun in(cross contamination)? All I wanted was another sauce to replace that orange sauce that did NOT go well with fish Jun. how hard it is just to replace that junk orange sauce?. I didn't NOT ask for more sauce! Other than that bad service, the fish Jun and kalbi is tasty. . I miss the old Gina's service and owner

Small pan BBQ chicken around $50ish not worth it.

I drenched the kimbab in that sauce and it was easily the best thing I tried here. The chive jeon was extra crispy and packed with veggies. I really enjoy the Korean comfort foods! 4 stars for the food, soups, and ban chan, 5 stars if the service was great. Typical service you will get at a Korean spot but no complaints. Just gotta be patient for ban chan refills or if you need anything else, I don't expect much just happy that I get to have my Korean food. During this recent Saturday visit, I decided to go here for our late lunch, after hiking Koko Head Trail & Makapuu. It was about 4:30 pm, we were the only ones there, but it filled up pretty quick an and they do have many take out and Uber/Door Dash orders. My favorites here are the combo set, choice of soondubu (combination, kim chee, spam, beef, sausage, clam,) & either meat jun, fried mandoo, bulgogi, yellow corvina, seafood jun, or BBQ chicken. The combo use to be $20.55 my first time but now went up to $23.55, hence the increase, it is still a great deal, this meal comes with rice and 5 different ban chan. This combo was more than enough for the both of us. My favorite is the spam soondubu ( yes. who picks Spam right?! hehe) & the seafood Jun. Although it so hard to decide since all the choices are good, I will have to visit again for the other selection. The other half and I cannot eat an entire combo set by ourselves. I love the ban chan, especially the daikon & kim chee, so fresh and crispy! When I first dined here, I was surprise to see they give you a fresh egg to crack in your soondubu soup, I am use to the egg already in there. We always have leftover soondu soup which I take home and add to my Korean ramen the next day, so good! For the meats, the beef brisket and beef toro were the stars, but the beef chuck was slightly tough and dry. They were also out of bulgogi, which was disappointing. The pork had a really strong boar taint smell/taste, which completely turned me off from ordering any of the pork. We had to ask for more meat and banchan refills multiple times. They would bring more of the dishes like kimchi and cucumber, but when we asked for more tuna mac, they wouldn't give us any. It also looked like there were only two people working while there were probably around 10 tables during the Tuesday lunch rush, so I do think they were understaffed. If you're offering AYCE, the refills and service should flow a lot more smoothly. It felt like they were paying more attention the tables that selected a higher tier of AYCE. Not a terrible experience, but definitely not as seamless or enjoyable as I was hoping for.
