I was one of Getwireless' first customers using fixed WiFi from their Centre Hall tower. I paid for 5megs down and 2 megs up and got it for most of the time I used their service until the last few years. For the past 2 weeks, I was getting 0.3 megs down and nothing up. I called customer service and they refused to send someone out to look at my system. I am 72 years old and fighting cancer. I spend my days binge watching Netflix which i could not do any more. I offered to pay for someone to come out to check out my system, but they refused to send someone. I canceled my service and am now using Hughesnet. Do not use this service as you will throw money away and they will not provide any support for their aging equipment which is failing all the time. I gave them 1 star only because it would not let me give zero stars. read more

There were many things that I did not enjoy about getwireless.net's service, but I think the worst of all was the customer service and overall quality of the internet provided. My connection was very spotty - I was paying for 12 mbps and was only receiving around 2-4 (on the good days). Along with the poor service, I also lost connection at least once or twice per week. When trying to call in about these issues I was having, I was often put on hold for at least 20-30 minutes and then attended by a service reps who were unable to assist me in any way. I once complained to a rep about the quality of my service requesting something be done about it - but the rep yelled, yes - legitimately yelled, back at me declaring that it was not the service provider's fault. Though one of the cheaper options in the State College area, I would fully recommend looking elsewhere for an ISP. Spending an extra $10 a month is certainly worth it if it means you'll be avoiding the inevitable headaches with Getwireless.net. read more

I experienced very poor customer service from this company when I recently attempted to return a modem. Although it was only one day late, they wouldn't accept the modem and demanded a $200 penalty, and were unwilling or unable to get me in touch with someone higher in the organization who could provide more helpful support. Ultimately after complaints in other venues I was able to get the penalty reduced to $50; still usurious, but sometimes it's just not worth the fight. It pains me to say it, but I'd strongly recommend that Penn State students go with Comcast instead. With any luck, eventually Get Wireless will get the message and either improve their game or get out of town. Unfortunately, the ownership seems to be behind statecollege.com and onwardstate.com, too, so perhaps I can only dream. read more

I cannot stand how shi**y their internet is. I have a downtown apartment and getwireless internet came with the lease so I'm currently not paying for it. I understand that I get 8mbps service. I cannot go through a 30 mins episode on Netflix without having to turn the internet off and back on to reset it because the connection is so damn spotty. Pages that I need to access online don't load so I'm constantly having to reload pages before I'm finally able to see the information I need for school/work. It is the most frustrating thing on earth. I would absolutely NOT recommend them to my worst enemy. They do not know what they're doing. read more

Used Getwireless.net for wifi in Beaver Hill apartments. At first, the customer service seemed good. It was easy to set up and understand. However, two months later, the wifi stopped working entirely. After calling day after day, the only suggestions they had were to work on it "from the back end" to fix the issue. They had me perform tests on my computer every day to check the speed because they were too lazy to send a service man out. They blamed it on the building at some points too. It was the most frustrating thing I've ever dealt with and an even bigger waste of my time. Since we were college students, paying for the biggest package to get almost nothing was difficult to deal with. We had to use other sources of wifi to continue our regular school activities. At the end of the two weeks of calling back and forth with billing and service departments, they proceeded to argue with me and say that the router that THEY INSTALLED wasn't theirs (it was). They said they wouldn't service the equipment they provided. We got in touch with the router company through a number that they provided and they made us pay $100 for a firewall because our router was "hacked". It wasn't hacked. After more arguing, they told me to return the router to their office to exchange it for another one. When I gave them the old router, they said that it was in fact their router and that it was the only one they issued to the 2017/2018 school year customers. Maybe they should have checked their records before wasting my time and money. For the rest of the year, service was slow, spotty, and didn't connect with our smart tv. They wouldn't lower our bill despite the fact we were only receiving half the service we were told we would get. If the contract wasn't for a year, I would have left them immediately. I would never recommend this service to anyone and its a shame that A&W helps them advertise their services in their buildings. Never again. It was terrible. read more

9/2016: This is a warning to any State College residents / Penn State University students that they should stay away from this company, as the experience that we had (PSU student) was horrible, resulting in 2 1/2 weeks of very poor quality internet; terrible technical support (they would not send a tech out and placed the blame on our inability to properly test their service + a bad router, which they had provided! It resulted in us cancelling their service and going with another provider (who provides great internet, BTW), and getwireless continuing to try to get us to pay a $149 cancellation penalty. 5 tech support calls and 2 calls to try to get them to stop trying to collect $149 for horrible service have gotten us no relief. Had getwireless for 1 yr. Never again. The connection was slow and terrible. If more than 1 person tries to stream video at the same time the connection goes out the window. Called about the slow service and was given nothing but an excuse about how all the other apartments must be causing network interference and it's not getwireless's fault. As if that wasn't enough, they fined me 50 dollars on August 1st as a late equipment fee and then said they would charge me an additional 200 if I did not return the equipment so I had to drive 3 hrs to Penn State to return the equipment which is bewildering considering they were able to easily get into my apartment and set it up when I first signed up for the service. If you want my advice, save your money I essentially got scammed out of 50 dollars because the equipment is "due" 10 days before students resume class, how convenient, not to mention the poor customer service as far as wait times on calls and a very rude representative, Lauren who said she would not charge me the 50 dollars, but then went back on her word because I used "vulgar language" on the phone. First of all!! Lisa at the desk couldn't answer any of my questions and had to redirect to another person. All I needed to do was upgrade my service and purchase a router.. Then when I finally spoke with someone who could help me after being on hold for forever, I scheduled my router installation for my move in day, Saturday, which they tried to make me pay for even though in the email it said installation was free. THEN IT GOT WORSE.. They called back and said they had to reschedule me because they were too short of staff?!? And the worst part?!? They had to reschedule me for Monday from 2-5 on the first day of classes... They are a pathetic excuse for a business. I only gave one star because I had to. read more

My apartment choose GetWireless because it was mailed to our buildings residents. We figured if our building was sending us an ad about a internet service provider that it would be a legitimate business. We purchased the 50 mbps plan and for 3 days we had maybe 2-4 mbps if we plugged into our modem. The internet did not even reach our rooms or anywhere outside a small radius in the living room of our apartment. We talked with Comcast and they told us that many residents complain about the company's service. We actually paid less than we would have at GetWireless and can actually get a connection in our rooms. We were hit with a 200 dollar late charge for cancelling a service that we did not receive. It seems as if the company is out to convince students to sign up for the service then have them cancel from their lack of quality then hit them with late charges. I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere for an internet service provider. (I would also give 0 stars if it were an option.) read more
