We were looking for a place for brunch and this was perfect. My husband got the Breakfast sandwich- bacon egg and cheese on toasted pressed bread looked awesome! I had the avocado, tomato with egg sandwich and a side of broccoli salad. I was surprised the eggs were hard boiled however it was very tasty. Our experience with the business side of the operation, though, is hit or miss. Today we asked for a loaf of walnut bread. When we got it home & sliced it, there wasn't a walnut to be found. So as to not confuse anyone, this is their second location, the other one is in Biglersville PA. The Gettysburg Baking Co is quite a find. We stopped in whole pursuing some of the local wine shops her in Gettysburg and while at their neighbors (Hauser Estate Winery) we decided it would be best if we ate something to go along with a glass of wine or hard craft cider. I particularly love small proprietor owned bakeries because they pay attention to the craft, science, and quality of their products instead of the quantity for the masses that larger bakeries cater to. In this Gettysburg Bakery did not disappoint!!! As we entered the shop we were first greeted with the delicious aromas wafting through the air of fresh baked goods and then by the shopkeeper. The menu is storewide blackboard (see pic). While the menu is not extensive it still took us a few minutes to decide because everything sounded so delightfully delicious. My wife settled on the open face "Avocado tartine" on sourdough, and I on the "Bohn Mi" on rustic French bread, both served with a very tasty and delicious picked slaw of beets and kale. To finish we decided on splitting a pastry and we opted for the "Chocolate croissant", which was light crispy with decadent dark chocolate inside and laced on the outside with a sprinkle of powdered sugar on one end. While extremely good, it was not as buttery as I would expect a croissant to be. (My love of croissants are expressed in my review of Evergrain Baking Company, Chestertown Maryland). But let me tell you that an Yelper, Elite or not that comes to Gettysburg would delight in the baked goods crafted by the Gettysburg Bakery. Do not waste your time or money at Starbucks- eat here! Wide variety of breakfast sandwiches and coffee. The cold brew is amazing along with the bacon egg and cheese and pastries. Cute little place tucked in a corner of Lincoln Square. Their coffee was yummy (we had an americano and an iced coffee), and the pastries were tasty (chocolate chip cookie, chocolate croissant, and morning roll). They have a bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich that wasn't on the menu. I just asked them. They only make it on multigrain bread. I was a little nervous about my hubby and this multigrain situation, but the bread was DELICIOUS! It had a bit of a sourdough twang to it, but that was a pleasant surprise . I'm only giving 4 stars because of the extremely limited menu option, high prices, and I wish they had more variability in their coffee cup sizes. read more

I love bakeries. The smells, the freshness, the indulgence. When traveling, I never miss a chance to explore the worlds of baked goods. That said, the Gettysburg Baking Company is 5 starworthy. A late- afternoon stop after battlefield exploration gave us the chance to warm up and refuel on carbs. A Cuban sandwich, a rasberry-cheese danish, and a chocolate croissant later, life was good and moods had improved. The Cuban sandwich ($9.50) was great, as were the bakes foodstuffs. Coffee was dark and delicious, and the owner was affable. It's nestled in a corner of the square next to The Pub-diagonal from Lincoln's statue- so it might be easy to miss, but it's a find worth seeking! read more

This place opened just after I moved to Gettysburg, and I have been a regular ever since. Which begs the question: Where do I even begin? The breads, from the local sourdoughs to the candied fruit and nut loaves are spectacular, even if the sourdoughs have some very large air pockets. The breads toast well too. The pastries are real delights, particularly their raspberry danish, likely the greatest danish I have ever eaten. And there is nothing like coming in on a very hot day and getting an affogato here; the coffee, cream, bits of caramel and pecan...all that is missing is some alcohol, but it is such a refreshing joy. I know that I probably should have reviewed this place some time ago, but I have gotten to know it well, along with the friendly and helpful staff who took the trouble to learn my name and address me thereby when I walk in. We are on a road trip and stopped in the bakery because of the good reviews We bought 3 oatmeal raisin & 3 Cranberry pecan cookies to take on our trip. The aroma of fresh baked goods was delightful. It was very difficult to limit my purchases. 80 miles south of Gettysburg we hit a traffic backup of 57 minutes. I brought out the cookies and the whole mood changed.
