    Beef Empanada

Best baked beef empanada I've ever had!! The crust is honestly my favorite part. It's slightly sweet, savory, and the texture is like a flaky shortbread. Most places make theirs either too plain or greasy. Whenever I have a craving for empanadas, I think of this place! Beef is tender and the ratio to crust is perfect! Came on a Saturday this time and it came with free coffee. Hope more people discover them!

Tal cual lo que vez en la foto.... Super Rico :)

Delicious! I stopped by Gery's this afternoon while driving through the neighborhood. I was craving a sandwich, saw that these were Peruvian sandwiches and had to stop. I unfortunately stopped by right before they closed and they were pretty much sold out of everything. BUT The owner super sweet, offered me the chicken sandwich and the last veggie empanada. I was going to come back another time but I decided to take her up on it. It did not disappoint. The veggie empanada, so good! Very flavorful and probably the BEST puff pastry I've had in SF. The pastry is sweet, soft, and dense and just the right amount to balance the grilled veggies inside. I usually don't get veggie empanadas I go for chicken or beef but I loved these. I'll be back to try all of them. The chicken sandwich is the perfect size, tasty and on a freshly baked roll, it also has these little string crispy potato like things (?) that added crunch to the sandwich which I loved. It's a cold sandwich and great for a warm day. I also tried the chicha morada and loved it! Sweet but not too sweet and not over powering with the cinnamon. It's one of my all time favorite drinks. I will definitely be back try more. I should have come earlier in the day, however I'm glad I didn't leave and tried some of the items on the menu. It's a cute, quant, deli that fits just a few. But loved the vibe, owner and the staff, so kind and friendly. It's only been open for 6 weeks, you have to try this place out! Also did I mention great prices?! :)

A delicious bakery/Peruvian food cafe just opened in the Inner Richmond. It's on a not very high traffic 6th Ave between California and Clement. If you are like me and need to visualize by other restaurants or landmarks, it's located across the street from Mandalay and where Not Latte /Ha Tea used to be. It's more of a store front with maybe a small table with 2 chairs outside. The baker/owner is a very lovely and gracious woman. We visited for the first time yesterday and enjoyed some delicious anise bread. We also enjoyed the braised pork sandwich. Slightly dry pork but with the accompanying hot sauce, it was delicious! Also the decaf latte was yummy. She mentioned that on weekends, she will start offering Peruvian food, not just Sandos, so we can't wait to come back to try some new things.

Walking into this cafe I fell, I fell in love with the Peruvian decor. Aside from this, the food was great -- I had a steak sandwich and chocolate cake, which were both great. The bread for the sandwiches was freshly out the oven. The service was overall good.

    Such a yummy pork tamale!

Best tamales I've had in a long time! A very cute and tiny neighborhood gem with delicious options and friendly service. Geraldine was so kind and personable and offered to warm up my tamale. I just wolfed down that tamale now--it was packed with flavor and blew me away! Can't wait to eat the chicken one too...I'm so lucky to live nearby this place and I will definitely be back!

Had a lovely experience here at this tiny Peruvian sandwich shop. There's very very little seating, just FYI! Pan con chicharron was delicious, not too heavy and the pork was perfectly cooked, not oily. The bread on the sandwich really stood out to me...incredibly fresh, light, and crispy. The house made hot sauce was very spicy and delicious as well. Service was lovely!! Quick, friendly, thoughtful (Gery asked if I wanted onions on my sandwich since I hadn't clarified when ordering). Definitely plan to come back and try other sandwiches, tamales, and the desserts including the alfajores and passion fruit cheesecake. Wishing Gery's much success here for many, many years to come!

I had just missed my bus and so I had 15 minutes to wait until the next bus and I was super hungry. I just looked up spots that were super close to me and found this café. I walked over and the closed sign was on the front door, even though I still had about six minutes until they officially closed. The woman inside, came out and opened the door for me and allowed me to come in to make a quick purchase, that was really nice of her. They only had chicken empanadas left so I bought one. The empanada was one of the best I've tried in the city. Thought it was better than all the popular ones in the ferry building. It was so flaky and the filling inside was so flavorful. It was like a salsa picante chicken that was inside and it was just really good. It also tasted pretty authentic. I would definitely go back here. I'm so glad I randomly came across this place and also it just opened like four months ago so it's super new. I don't think a lot of people know about it, it's a very tiny shop. You can't really sit inside. You kind of just go inside to get something and leave. Will definitely be coming back here. Highly recommend if you are in the area.

    Open til 3 pm? BS.

Mariposas was just starting to fill up when we arrived, and the team accommodated our party seamlessly. The atmosphere is fun, quirky, and unpretentious--playfully decorated with a full floral wall, glowing accent lights, and large butterflies throughout the dining room. What truly made the evening special, though, was the stellar service. Our server took fantastic care of us, which was no small feat considering she seemed to be managing several tables (if not most of the dining room) single-handedly. She was warm, attentive, and incredibly professional from start to finish. They even surprised the birthday girl with a complimentary dessert of her choice--Lúcuma (Peruvian caramel-like fruit) ice cream, which was a delightful touch. For the food and drinks, the empanadas (chicken, beef, and vegetable) were the absolute stars of the dinner--beautifully presented and easily some of the best I've had in a long time. The Ceviche de Camarones was fresh and packed with flavor, while the Lomo Saltado was perfectly tender, and well-seasoned. The Arroz con Pollo was solid, though if we had a do-over, we'd swap it for a second order of Ceviche or the Chicken Tallarín Saltado. We rounded out the meal with a classic Pisco Sour, a refreshing Chicha Morada, and a few chilled Inca Kolas, all of which were excellent. Mariposas delivered great food, a relaxed vibe, and standout hospitality when we needed a backup plan. I recommended Mariposas if you're looking for solid Peruvian comfort food and top-tier service in SF.

Fortunately for us, El Dorado was conveniently located a block away from Moscone South (yes, I had my eye on the restaurant ahead of time and had made a reservation). The first night, Jorge greeted us warmly and walked us through the menu. The restaurant's vibe is neighborhood casual, though still appropriate for a date night or nice family outing. We wanted to try a little bit of everything, so we ordered the ceviche trio, the empanada sampler, and the pescado frito, which is a pan-seared red snapper entree. For dessert, we had the churros and mango mousse cake. Everything was delicious, and our favorites were the original ceviche, the veggie empanada, the fish, and the mango mousse cake. For drinks, we ordered the chicha morada and pisco sour - both refreshing and yummy! Jorge was also our server, and service was excellent throughout dinner. We enjoyed everything so much and joked about dining here again tomorrow. Pretty sure Jorge did not take us seriously! The second night rolled around, and I couldn't stop thinking about the veggie empanada and pisco sour... so we dined at El Dorado once more! We did not have a reservation this time, and thankfully the restaurant had a couple of open tables. We told the host (not Jorge; sorry, I forgot your name!) we had dined with them last night, and he chuckled. Pretty sure he thought we were kidding! This time our server was Ayduri, who was very sweet and attentive as well. We got a full order of the veggie empanada, the shrimp causa (kind of like a tart potato salad with shrimp), the churrasco entree, and their seafood pasta special. For dessert, the chocolate cake. Another chicha and a maracuya (passionfruit) sour this time. All the items delivered - especially the churrasco, which came perfectly medium rare, just like we requested. And, to our pleasant surprise, the dessert was on the house, because we dined there twice in a row! All in all, El Dorado is a gem in SOMA. Granted, I do not venture into SOMA often, so my palate only knows so much. But I'm confident you'll find something to love here. And chances are we'll be back again the next time we're in the city.

Luckily, it was a beautiful day in SF. Overall, the staff was nice, but I had a frustrating experience with the host. I came in and asked if I could get a table and if there was a wait. She said there wasn't and that she would get me a table. I waited...and waited...while watching other people get seated. Eventually, I had to ask her again, and she finally printed out a ticket for me to be seated. I'm still not sure what happened the first time I asked. I ordered their special lobster pasta and a latte. The lobster was perfectly cooked, and the pasta was al dente. The sauce was creamy with a nice peppery kick, and everything worked really well together. The dish is meant for two people, so it's definitely a generous portion. The latte was pretty basic and weak. I'm a bit of a coffee snob, so I'm pretty picky when it comes to coffee. I would love to come back and try some of their other seafood dishes.

The Tiradito Corado was easily the highlight of the meal--really flavorful and the dish I'd definitely order again. The ceviche was fine, although I wasn't a big fan of the nuts that came with it. The Conchas, served with scallops, were quite good, but at $39, I'm not sure they quite justified the price. The Lomo Saltado was okay. The fries that came with it were excellent, but the steak itself was a little overcooked and didn't have as much flavor as I was hoping for. Service was great throughout the meal, and overall it was a good dining experience. My biggest hesitation is the price relative to what you get. At these prices, I expected the food to be a little more impressive across the board. Still, there were some standout dishes, especially the Tiradito Corado, and I'm glad I gave the restaurant a try.

I also tried the plantains which were cooked perfectly; not too mushy with a perfect char, and the sweet onions on top were also tasty. Paired with a very tangy dipping sauce. All the flavors came together well. My husband ordered the Cantina burger which he enjoyed down to the last bite. Our daughter also sampled off the smaller menu with Lomo Empanadas and the Chicharron de Pollo which she reported were both very nicely prepared. Will, our server gave us excellent recommendations which we availed ourselves of. The bill for 4 items plus the burger, a side of rice, and a ginger beer came to just under seventy dollars, which was a reasonable price. I would definitely give the food five stars, and the restaurant four as it's a long and lengthy bar with a few tables for two. The majority of the seating is in the back with two flat screens and an open kitchen. I can imagine how loud this place can get. We went at the perfect time: not a lot of customers so we received excellent individualized service from Will.
