The idea is to keep everyone present and engaged with each other instead of their screens (they do make exceptions for emergencies or on-call situations, at the business's discretion). I actually love the reasoning behind it, even though I wished I had my phone to snap pictures of the inside! The space itself is dark and moody with major art deco Miami vibes, like something out of the 80s-90s. Think pink velvet draped everywhere, a life-size taxidermy leopard in the middle of the bar, and flamingo sculptures scattered throughout. It's gorgeous. There's plenty of seating between the booths/couches and the bar, and they seat you according to your party size. We got a plush half-circle booth with a table that fit all of us perfectly -- great sightlines too, so everyone could see and talk to each other easily. Each table gets an assigned server, and ours was fantastic. We ordered cocktails along with the yuca fries, empanadas, and quesadillas -- all delicious. On Saturday night, my friends and I visited Geraldine's for a highly anticipated birthday celebration. We chose this restaurant based on its positive reviews and expected an excellent experience. Unfortunately, what should have been a joyous evening was soured by miscommunications, unprofessional conduct, and an absence of accountability from management. We called Geraldine's twice before our visit to confirm details, including the dress code and whether we could bring small decorations (confetti and balloons) for our table. Both times, we were assured it was fine. However, after setting up and beginning our meal, a manager - tall, bald, and dressed in a suit -approached and curtly said that "glitter" was not allowed, and that a $250 cleaning fee was typically charged. When we clarified we brought confetti - not glitter - and referenced the prior assurances from our phone calls, this manager refused to engage in meaningful dialogue. He merely reiterated the no-glitter policy and walked away visibly annoyed. His attitude was dismissive, disgusting, and dampened the celebratory mood. Adding to the discomfort, we witnessed this manager conferring with a second manager - more casually dressed with black hair in a man bun - along with our waitress and a chef. They glanced at our table, which seemed to be the topic of their discussion. The second manager was friendlier but his behavior was equally unsatisfactory when we spoke to him shortly before leaving. He immediately brought up the confetti issue and deflected blame for it, repeatedly citing the $250 cleaning fee and referenced a purported city regulation prohibiting such items in restaurants. However, my subsequent research revealed no such law. While restaurants can set their own policies, they're also responsible for communicating them clearly. Additionally, the second manager repeated his personal involvement in asking our waitress to stay after her shift to assist with cleaning the confetti, implying that he was doing us a favor by not charging us the $250 cleaning fee. He framed this poorly executed damage control as a generous favor but it came off as a thinly veiled guilt trip, a passive-aggressive attempt to shift blame on us while avoiding accountability for his staff's mistakes. Furthermore, when inquiring about a cake cutting fee, we were initially informed that the charge would be $5 pp, amounting to $50 for our party of 10. However, the second manager corrected this, stating it was actually $5 total for the table - another communication inconsistency from Geraldine's staff. Had we been provided with accurate pricing, we would have been able to plan appropriately and bring a cake, a missed opportunity due to the restaurant's failure to convey the correct fee. While the food was delicious, the environment clean, and the music enjoyable, these positives were overshadowed by the attitude of the management and their unwillingness to take responsibility. Our group was appropriately dressed, well behaved, and even cleaned the confetti ourselves before leaving, yet we were made to feel like a burden. I've dined at numerous fine dining establishments, but this experience stands out as one of the rudest. Management's conduct, coupled with the staff's failure to provide accurate information, reflects a troubling disregard for basic customer service standards. To select Geraldine's for a special occasion and then be met with such a condescending experience is unacceptable, especially considering some of us drove over an hour to come. This experience not only detracted from our celebration but also raised questions about the professionalism and operational integrity of the establishment. For groups considering Geraldine's for a special event, I urge caution. Their inability to communicate policies clearly or handle mistakes respectfully dulled what should have been a joyful dinner. I sincerely hope management addresses these issues so no one else endures this experience. As it stands, I cannot recommend Geraldine's and do not plan to return anytime soon. read more

I recently stayed a night at Hotel Van Zandt, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and decided to have breakfast at Geraldine's, the hotel's restaurant. I wasn't expecting the food to be so exceptional, but it truly exceeded my expectations. We started with the Ranchero eggs, and WOWOWOWW, the flavors were absolutely on point. The eggs were cooked to perfection, with a nice, runny yolk that paired beautifully with the crispy tortilla. The dish also included refried black beans and tender barbacoa, creating a perfect balance of textures and flavors. Every bite was a delightful making the Ranchero eggs the undeniable star of breakfast. We also ordered the Benny G's, their take on Eggs Benedict. This dish had potato-chorizo, topped with a rich chipotle mornay sauce, and was served with a petite salad on the side. While the Benny G's was tasty and well-prepared, it couldn't quite outshine the Ranchero eggs. The service at Geraldine's was just as impressive as the food. Our server, Sage, was super sweet and attentive, making sure we had everything we need. Another highlight of the experience was the live music during brunch. Overall, I highly recommend Geraldine's if you're ever staying at Hotel Van Zandt or even just passing through. read more

Sitting in the lounge as I type this and I'd give zero stars if I could. I've been in the service industry for 10 years, so I get it. Friends band is playing, it's the bassists wife's birthday and we've got 15 people in the party. They will not reserve us a table after the dinner rush to watch the music and have birthday drinks. Not a big request, just put a reserved sign on the giant table after the last reservation is done and gone. That is all. Drinks are overpriced, hostess and managers are extremely rude and careless. I get long days and a lot of people. Been there done that no excuse. This is my first yelp review in life by the way. So yeah, I activated a yelp account just because this place is that annoying. But the place reminded me of why I moved out of the Bay, including the stuck-up hostess. I thought I was in Palo Alto, CA. But our server, Willem, was great effort. The food was okay. Nothing was horrible, most were forgettable. Last time I am taking Tik Tok advice on where to go for my precious date night dinner opportunities.

The ambiance is very intimate, with low lighting and some booth seating. It's a good date or celebration spot. Off the Happy Hour menu, we ordered: Spicy Salmon cones = $4 each. Tuna cones = $5 each Spicy Rigatoni = $15 Street Corn = $8 Dessert (Full price): Brown Butter Cake = $18 Lemon Swirl Cheesecake = $20 Campfire Brownie = Complimentary as it's my friend's birthday. The tuna and salmon cones were fine, but were so small that it was a bit surprising to us. The spicy rigatoni was the best rigatoni I had ever had, and it is actually spicy. It had a bit of a kick, and the flavor pairs well with the pasta. The street corn was good. The brown butter cake was my favorite, while the lemon swirl cheesecake had too much of a lemon taste for me. The campfire brownie is cool when they light it on fire, but it's just ice cream and brownies. Finally, their house bread is so buttery and flaky that it straight up melts in your mouth. Some might say it's too buttery, but I loved it. The service was amazing, as you would expect in a place like this. I was still seated even though my entire party was running late. I definitely recommend this place and will try their dinner menu!

The dramatic green curtains at the entry way, stunning chandeliers and see-through view to the kitchen made entry into restaurant welcoming and memorable. Soft music permeated the restaurant with rotating artists setting the mood for a romantic brunch. The Kitchen featured an Austin Restaurant Week 2-course brunch (11am-3pm). The hubs and I both ordered the Lemon Ricotta pancakes with a blueberry compote for our first course. Let me just say these pancakes made our toes tingle...fluffy, flavorful and addicting. I ate every morsel of my pancakes. For our second course, the hubs ordered a fried chicken biscuit with hash browns, which he dearly loved (big fan of friend foods). I ordered the Cubana sandwich with house-cut fries. OMG... the pancakes, Cubana sandwich and fries were the best I have ever eaten!!! My hubby really enjoyed his selections as well. The house cut fries were substantial and dusted with a flavorful seasoning. Every crisp bite was delicious. JoJo (server in training) & Hunter, our servers were most attentive and friendly. In fact, Hunter packed up our leftovers for us v us packing them up ourselves. They both graciously answered our questions about the menu and restaurant. Such an absolutely lovely brunch...

Wasn't sure what bottle to order, but they were super helpful and gave me some samples before making a decision. I don't remember the name of the wine, but it was perfect and paired very well with the food that we ordered. We got the bruschetta board, a bottle of wine, California panini, and Brussels sprout salad The board took a a while to come out, but our servers let us know that it was a popular item which makes a lot of sense. I love the spread and variety of the boards. Bonus points for cutting them in slices. The brussels sprout salad was light and flavorful. The California Panini served with a side salad was satisfying. Smoked salmon, fig, anchovy, and tomato (can't remember that one's name). I requested the gluten free version which I was thankful they had. I'd love to see them offer some versions with non cows dairy such as some sheep cheese like feta. My fave ones were the smoked salmon and the fig. It was so beautiful inside and outside. We chose to eat inside but took pictures on the patio. Servers were attentive. This place even gives a discount to the parking garage attached to the building. You do have to scan the QR code in the garage when you arrive to pay for parking. (I didn't know that until an hour into my dining and my friend mentioned paying for parking so I had to run out to my car!) Looks like they change the flavors of the boards so it would be great to come back and try different flavors. There were some dessert items I saw online that weren't available on the in restaurant menu that would have been nice to try. They also have a wine club if you're into that. Near downtown so you can enjoy the city before or after your meal. My friends said their cocktails were delish.
