Well my wife cousin is the head chef so I guess I cant review this place. Even though I have met him twice. However the food speaks for itself. I will be back again. read more

Nice atmosphere. Not quite day drinking though. Unfortunately our server was less than wonderful. Took too long for drinks and food and for our bill and unfortunately it wasn't busy so I'm not sure the wait. Probably will not visit again. read more

I loved this place. While in Austin for 4 days, I had breakfast here 3 of the days. I guess when you find something that you love, you eat it again and again....or at least I do. I had the short rib quesadilla with cheese and it was SOOOO good. It comes with a little sour cream and a red sauce that is very tasty. The flavor of this thing was just sooooo good. The only problem was that it was pretty small. I felt like I could have eaten 3 or 4 of those things but I guess I'm glad it was that size. I added a side of fruit and it was the perfect breakfast. read more

Interesting place, interesting menu, Pig face candy bar, duck egg scramble to name a few. Unique and tasty food, good drink selection and great atmosphere. Great live music and nice place... I'm going again. read more

Geraldine's - New American Near Me - Austin, Texas

I know this seems harsh, but that's just what it is. I sat on this review for a couple of weeks to flesh it out in my mind. So here goes. The space - is absolutely lovely. The elevator to get to the 4th floor is immediately to the right when you go in. If you are walking in and looking straight ahead as most people do when in mid-stride, it's very easy to miss. And no one at the front desk is terribly eager to assist...even when you look lost. We got there early, so when we left and got off the elevator, we were shocked to see security and a velvet rope. Seriously??? Waaaay too "scene-y" so that left a bad taste in my mouth as well. The service - hit and miss. Our server, Roman I believe, was a delight. He knew the menu and made suggestions without being obnoxious or pushy. He was friendly and super helpful when I dropped my cell phone and couldn't crawl under the table in a dress to retrieve it. Now...the floor manager (with the silly looking twisty waxed mustache) was another matter. He is the "miss me with all of that attitude" problem. After spending $200 for snack food (we'll get to that in a moment) we were going to meet a friend at the bar for a drink. The checks were taking a while, so we politely asked if there was space for 3 at/near the bar. He said it was first come first serve, which of course is understandable. It wasn't super crowded and we simply asked if there was something available...with the thought that one of us could hurry over and grab the seats while the other waited for the bill. Apparently, that was too much to ask and we were left to our devices. He didn't even look...perhaps weighted down by that waxed 'stache...who knows. The food - nice but paltry. Much like the other new and trendy restaurants that have opened lately, you have to order 10 things to quell the hunger. The tarro fish taco was impressive as was the steak with tater tots. The cauliflower was cooked well but saying that it was served as a "steak" is incorrect...still florets and not many of them if you are sharing. Neither of us cared for the basil mustard sauce that was on it as it didn't seem to blend well together. I got a shock of basil up front, then the mustard at the end. It was weird...not nasty, just odd. There was a special of fish cheeks - meh. I know we ordered a few other things, but clearly unmemorable. But we left another restaurant about $200 lighter with un-full bellies. My bourbon drink was delish btw. Parking - now this is absolutely why I will never return. When I pulled up to the valet, I told him I was going to Geraldine's and asked how much it would be. In NO UNCERTAIN TERMS, he said that they do not stamp on weekends (it was a Friday) and that it would be $12.99. He did not hesitate or stutter. We even laughed because I then said that he may as well say $13 because he could keep the penny...Ha ha ha my ass. When I returned, the rude chick said it was $16-something for my friend and $21.65 for me. Excuse me? I told her what the guy said that took my keys ($12.99 because we were dining at Geraldine's) and she said "I don't care what he told you, yours is $21.65". I gave that heffa the money and swore I would never return. Now, he may have told me the incorrect information, but that should not be to my detriment. My money can certainly be spent elsewhere (especially since a new/same old place opens weekly) and I can post an honest review like this so others can know exactly what they are getting into. But for the parking, I would have given it a solid 3.5 stars. I don't have a problem spending money on good food. What I don't need in my life is jumping through hoops to get it. I don't need a velvet rope, tiny plate, twisty mustache, valet raping to occur at the expense of my socializing with friends. UPDATE: As you can see the restaurant replied and asked that I contact them. I called (and left a message) and emailed. No reply. Why bother to ask if you have no follow through? read more

I am very late in writing a review for this restaurant since we had a get together there in late September. We had some conflicting comments from people in our group about how to reserve space and so didn't have any reservations when we got there. The staff and the evening manager (who's name I didn't write down) were so helpful and accommodating in getting us a table and the space we wanted when it became available even thought it was the night before the first ACL weekend. The food I tried was fantastic as were the drinks that our awesome bartender explained so well. I highly recommend this restaurant based on the staff alone but you won't be disappointed in the food or the drinks. read more

Disclaimer: I went on friends and family night and everything was free. But I'll happily go again and pay full price. The setting, service, cocktails, and food execution were all on point. The vibe is definitely on the swanky side, but they do a great job of not overdoing it and remaining tasteful. Food is "upscale Southern with an Asian accent". You can see their Uchi lineage here and there, especially in the fish tacos. The "Willie's Cup" is quite possibly my new favorite drink. Highly recommended for a full dinner, or just cocktails and music. read more

We made reservations for 5 about 3 weeks ahead. When we got there, our table wasn't ready. We waited about 15 mins to be seated, which is fine. But when they seated us, we got a small table and they had to add a chair to fit 5. When I can see smaller groups at bigger tables and they put 2 tables together for another group of 5. They couldn't have done that for us also? Also My friend waited about 20 mins after getting her food for butter. Won't be returning. There are A LOT of nice restaurants with pretty views in downtown Austin, with great service. This is definitely not one of them. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else with better reviews. read more

I am going to start by saying I love Hotel Van Zandt! Ive stayed here several times and my experience has been nothing except spectacular. I talked a couple of my friends into coming to Austin for my birthday because I love it. I brought them here first to get a cocktail. Ivan was our bartender and made our experience miserable. He was negative, nasty and just mean. We asked him what he loved on the menu and it was basically nothing. We wanted to play it safe after his reaction so we ordered drinks and fries. He told us we could only order fries outside. Ivan made our experience aweful. I was embarrassed that I had told my friends how great this place was. read more

Upon arriving for my first time here-I was stoked! Cool hotel, elevator entrance to the restaurant on the 4th floor overlooking the hip pool/lounge, great menu for food & drinks...this is going to be epic, right? Well-right (if we're talking epic failure). I sat at the bar & the bartender was awesome & gave some recommendations. I went with one of the mezcal bottled cocktails & immediately regretted it-SO sickly, syrupy sweet (but, meh....it's a pre-mixed cheaper cocktail and it IS alcohol-so what the heck). I decided on my small plates & the bartender advised that entrees with come out as they're ready/on the fly, which is common in Austin, but not ideal....oh well-at least the food would be perfectly prepared if it couldn't be timed, right?! Nope. The first entree was an over cooked cauliflower that was essentially mush served in a sweeter than syrup citrus glaze that I sent back after the first bite. Remember the scene in Elf when Buddy poured maple syrup on his spaghetti? That's pretty much what this was. I was disappointed because the menu description of the entree & my love of cauliflower looked so promising. Fail. The second entree (wood-grilled octopus) arrived about 20 minutes after the cauliflower refusal (place was dead as well) & looked amazing on a bed of lentils. Wood-fired octopus would probably be on the list at my death row meal & couldnt wait to dig-in. Terrible. The lentils were so over cooked they were like dust that disintegrated when you bit into them & the octopus was literally so over cooked that it was like octo-jerky. So sad. I ate it anyway, because I was starving & the bartender asked how it was & I told him-he was super apologetic & offered to bring me something else which I declined. The third entree; grilled squash (come on, Geraldine's-salvage this disaster) arrived & again-was plated/presented beautifully, but unlike the prior two dishes that were cooked into oblivion-were raw. The squash AND the zucchini. The Zukes had a couple grill marks, but were totally raw/dry throughout. The spiralized squash were totally dry/raw as well. The bartender dared to ask if the third time was a charm, but I had to call the 3rd strike. He presented a receipt for just the drink, but I felt bad that it was so terribly prepared I offered to pay for the octopus. He said he'd let the kitchen know. Maybe it was just an off night, but holy wow. At least I was able to eat some epic food truck fare on Rainey Street!! read more

Incredibly underwhelming, Wow, square tater tots! Yawn. $12 roasted cauliflower on top of pesto! I made that on Tuesday night when my husband and I were going to Netflix and not chill. Overcooked strip steak. My mom mastered that in the 80's. Walked out of there feeling like a chump. read more

The atmosphere is great and service decent. Poor rating is due to overpriced and over cooked food. Also "bottles" of wine are only half bottles for a large price. A lot of salt in all meals, too. read more

atmosphere is nice, and service from irina was great. but this is an over-priced small plates place. i didn't know that, so i reserved for dinner with family on the night of christmas. we had someone call us to confirm the 7:30 reservation the day before, we called before the reservation to say we were running later than 7:30, and yet it wasn't until AFTER we were served drinks that we were told the kitchen would be closing at 8. we had to rush through ordering and were generally frustrated with the lack of oversight and communication from whoever ran the show that night. the food and drinks were good, but quite small and simple for the price. read more

My husband and I chose Geraldine's for brunch in celebration of our anniversary and we were glad we did. The service was excellent. The staff really knew how to make us feel special ! The jazz music was beyond lovely and made for an intimate brunch. Our dishes were delicious and full of flavor. He had the short rib quesadilla and I had the pork and grits. We look forward to returning and cannot wait to tell our friends about this amazing place. read more

$20 valet when you eat here. Too many choices in Austin for tic tac fees like this. Try Qui or Gardner instead.

I ha enve been to Geraldine's several times before and it has been excellent. We went for brunch yesterday and didn't really enjoy.FYI brunch at Geraldine's means any thing with an egg in the recipe. We were hungry. They gave us the dinner menu so our juices started flowing for real food. Our waitress was so meek I don't thing I ever heard her. And she didn't hear us either. When asked for missing items she proceeded to tell us that we ever ordered this items. We asked for the smoked carrots and they told us no because they were on the the dinner menu. What? Do they smoke them them to order? read more

very disappointing and very overpriced for what it was. After a few days of fun in Austin we were looking for a nice place to have a farewell dinner. The restaurant was well located so we were able to get a reservation. Upon arrival, the restaurant is very striking.. 4th floor of hotel and very well decorated. The menu is limited and we were quickly informed by the server that they have this special situation how they serve; she used a series of words that basically made it sounded like tapas but she didn't use that word. We were told we would need 8 plates for the 4 of us that would be served in the middle of our table for all to share. We ordered a bottle of wine and decided to start with 7 plates. Long story short, for $24+ the quail was tasty but tiny tiny portions and other food was ok, and you keep getting served the small-ish plates and bowls of food for the group and have to eat on the same plate for each 'course'. For those prices, i would have minimally wanted a full serving, clean plates.. Other issues included the fact that our gnocchi never arrived, and when we realized we were 'done' we told them to bag it (no we didn't want it after our 'mains' were done. ) The service was pleasant but hardly the level for The price we paid for the food we got. In a a nutshell, pretentious and overpriced. i see now why we were able to get a reservation there easily. read more

What's up with the Guinea hen? The last one got bumped off by a construction truck over a year ago....but anyway. Food's delish, particularly the gnudi and goat combo, which we ordered twice....the goat was incredibly tender and just amazing. Shockingly the humbly advertised pretzel with cultured butter vanished in about three seconds, they have a seriously talented baker in the kitchen. We also liked the atmosphere a lot, great for milling about and socializing with flattering lighting and even thoughtful acoustics (!). So why three stars? Glad you asked! A group of us met here for drinks and appetizers, and whoever planned the drinks menu clearly thinks all of us down here Austin way are stoopid plus stoopid rich. Rather than a standard one ounce pour for, say, a scotch, (or any other liquor), they pour one half ounce. And all mixed drinks come in a dainty little thimble. My date actually sent his back saying, 'I don't doubt my masculinity but I am NOT drinking out of this tea party thing.' Yet, they're priced like you're drinking at the Chiltern Firehouse in London. Yep, we're all just too dumb down here in Texas to notice that y'all are pouring half size drinks at double the price and since we're embarrassed by our redneckness we ain't gonna say nuthin neither so mebbe we'll just be stickin to a Lone Star round bouts this place..... read more

The band for the "soul brunch" never showed up, the hostess & serving staff were rude, and the food was unbelievably average for the price point. It's a cute space but that is about all that this restaurant has to offer. read more

I yelped this place and it said its open from 7am-10pm on a Sunday. I drove from way deep pflugerville took us 35 mins to get here. And I valet my car at the hotel there which cost me 13 dollars for valet. We walked into the restaurant front desk by 1:55 and they said the kitchen closes at 2pm. And they seated the last table already. If your restaurant closes at 2pm on a Sunday then state it on your hours so you don't waste our time! read more

I've never given a review, but I loved this place! Chef Garrett was amazing! He came out to meet his tables and really engaged with his customers! The steak was perfectly cooked on both sides. This place is amazing! Came to Austin for my birthday and we really wanted to try this restaurant. Chef Stephen Bonin does not disappoint! We had pretty much everything on the menu and everything was fantastic. My favorite dishes were the Roasted beets, Pig Faced Candy bar, Smoked carrots, Barbecued short ribs. We also had the Gulf Coast fish of the day with was cobia. The cobia was one of the best pieces of fish I have ever eaten. They also had live music playing during dinner which was fun, and an awesome bar space to hang out at after dinner. Definitely try this place! read more

I am so excited that we have this gem near our house and they did it allllll right on the first try! Our server Ant was a delight - he coursed the meal for us perfectly and had great suggestions. The decor was awesome and comfy at the same time. The cutlery (yes, I love details) was so heavy and beautiful. The super star of the night was the Bbq short ribs. I will be craving that for weeks to come. Y'all outdid yourselves and we can't wait to come back! read more

I went there last night and yes, the food was yummy, and there were many things to like about Geraldine's, but in my opinion, there are still a few things to be worked out. I am probably between a 3-4, but a 5? Not for me, at least, not yet. When we arrived, the hostess seemed flustered that we did not have a reservation even though the place was empty. She sat us close to the gleaming kitchen, and we realized it was too dark to read the menus. I would say it was just us, but almost every table was using a flashlight or a cell phone to read them, so maybe the lights can come up a bit during dinner service? Or perhaps they could print on something other than brown paper. Kind of a bumpy start. Our waiter was nice and attentive, but he struggled describing some of the dishes, although once he warmed up, he was better. We had to ask for a wine list, which seemed a little odd for a restaurant of this caliber. He suggested we share plates, but then the dishes did not come with serving pieces to make that easy to do. In fact, he was surprised when we asked for some. Oh, the food? The burrata garlic-knot dish was wonderful, and the pork loin was super tasty, and both dishes were beautifully presented. The endive salad was much more bitter than I expected, and although the yellowfin tacos were tasty, they are small and not worth the price. I'd rather see two in a serving with a small garnish- particularly since everything is billed as sharable. I think Geraldine's is going to be a great restaurant once they get into a rhythm and fine tune a few things. I'll be back, and when I do, I am definitely ordering the burrata! read more

Came to Geraldines for my works Christmas lunch party. Great area for a private party for about 40 people, as it's an elevated area with railing, but still open to the restaurant. I'm sure they had another area if someone was in a wheelchair. The butternut squash soup was my fave. They also had cute mini desserts to try. The staff was possibly the most friendly staff I've ever encountered, with someone there every step of the way to point me where to go or escort me. I will definitely be coming back for brunch! read more

The ambiance and the music was great. The food and the service was disappointing overall. It took close to an hour to get our food after ordering despite the restaurant not being full. Not only was the service slow, but it was a turnoff to hear pretentious comments after asking for a condiment ("The chef wouldn't have that at a place like this"). That kind of comment can slide if you're food is next-level, but then we proceeded to get an order of chicken and waffles that you had to eat with your hands (drumsticks...why?) and a donut that had pink frosting and could serve 6 people (and were not warned about it's unusual size) and was average. If you're going to be snooty, at least be consistent. Nothing was bad, but nothing was worth returning for aside from the live jazz, considering the top-tier price. There are many better options in Austin. read more

Geraldine's is a killer Sunday brunch spot. I love the live music and the food is oh-so-good. We made a reservation for our large group, but it didn't seem overwhelmingly busy. Definitely putting this place on the top of my list for future last-minute brunch options that *might* not have a wait. The music is only on Sundays though, just FYI. read more

I really want to like this place. It's a good atmosphere and view is great. It's well decorated and a nice place to be. You feel good here. Then the menu comes. And then worse, the bill. If you want to blow well north of $50 on weird food that doesn't fill you up, man this is your spot. If you love people with sleeve tattoos and rockabilly haircuts ignoring you, this is your jam my friend. Just get drinks and sit by the fire. Then hit a food truck outside. read more

So i really wish i could give this place 3 stars but the atmosphere is what bumps it up to a 4. The service, food and prices are all a HARD 3. We came for brunch, a group of 6, and waited 20-30 minutes for our drinks (a few bloody marrys, coffe and mimosa) not the server fault but the bartender did not have it together then i ordered the omlette with no ham, the added spinach but the entire thing tasted like it was cooked in onion oil instead of onion simply inside, the omlette comes with nothing else so i added a 3$ biscuit which was pretty decent my friend ordered the french toast and that was actually a 5 star dish so do yourself a favor and order the tacos or the french toast. the food all came out at different times so we were all waiting and food was getting cold, very unprofessional for a small group brunch, and the place wasn't packed, the manager asked how everything was and we admitted the service was poor so he sent over a round of rose champagne. we stayed for the rest of the day because the rooftop pool deck area of the hotel was to die for, we ordered 2 bottles of white wine and cocktails and some pool snacks which were a tad better than the brunch food. read more

Came for brunch and we were seated on the patio because all the tables inside were reserved. You can hear the live music with no problems on the patio, but if you're wanting an inside table definitely make reservations! My husband and I shared the pancakes with blueberry compote and I had the potato hash. Our food and drinks took longer than normal to come out, but that was the only downside to the brunch. I really enjoyed the potato hash. It's on the smaller portion size but I loved the mixture of textures with the extremely crispy potato cubes, perfectly cooked eggs and the short rib . I wouldn't be disappointed if they put a little more meat in the dish! Pancakes were really good and flavourful. I'd never had whole wheat pancakes before and the texture is slightly different but delicious just the same. I wish they had a bit more of the blueberry sauce on these. The pancake portion was generous. I really enjoyed eating here and there are some other items on the menu I'd like to try. A great brunch spot. read more

We had a nice experience. I liked the decor with the patio lights and views of the city. We had the beets and ceviche first, liked the beets but the civic he was just ok. Then came the cauliflower and short ribs which were both super delicious. I read other reviews that joked about the cauliflower. I'm not sure how they make their cauliflower but i need their recipe if the cauliflower they're eating is so much better than Geraldine's. The short ribs are a must as others have mentioned. We ended with the pork ribs and raclette. The pork ribs were awesome and the raclette is unexpected but in a good way. read more

Be still my tatse buds...this place is incredible! My husband and i just showed up, no reservation, like some silly Ausinites do, and there was a two hour wait. To our surprise, two spots opened up at the bar and we threw elbows to snag them. Once we sat down we ordered a couple craft cocktails...mmmmm. Then some tacos...those too hit the spot. BUT then we ordered the short rib and my life hasn't been the same since. Not to mention, the bar tender was so friendly, we told him we had just gotten married a few weeks ago and he sent us a desert on the house...now that's service. read more
