All I can say if you're in the district area or called lower Manhattan go to George's it's comfort food and the staff is so friendly. You feel like you're at home. Loved this place for several reasons. First, they were playing the biggest hits from the '80s while I was there. Second, there was an outlet right near my seat, so I could easily charge my phone. The service was great--fast, friendly, and attentive. I had a cheesesteak wrap and coffee, and everything was excellent, with very reasonable prices. I've walked by this place for years and was never tempted to try it for some reason. I sat at one of the outside tables. They didn't seem to mind that I was working on my laptop while eating. Service was quick and amazingly friendly but i didn't feel rushed. I did the create your own omelette - spinach, mushroom and Swiss cheese. It came with a side of potatoes. I opted to skip the toast. It wasn't the best breakfast I've ever had but definitely not the worst. The omelette was huge. Seemed to be overcooked or something. But honestly it was a good thing since the spinach and mushrooms weren't too watery. The potatoes were ok. They had a nice crunchy layer but not very flavorful. My friends and I were craving some pancakes and decided to stop by here. We arrived around 11am and it was pretty crowded, but we only had to wait 10 minutes for a table. By the time we left (around 12pm) it looked like the line had gotten much longer. We ordered chocolate chip pancakes with strawberrys and they did not disappoint! I especially loved how they put the strawberrys inside the pancakes as well as on top. It was also very reasonably priced. The staff was very friendly and the service was quick. Spinach pie and a Greek salad The pie is huge and very filling. The crust is soggy so I skipped it this the lower star rating. The spinach filling is delicious and probably has 2 lbs of spinach in this pie. The salad is fresh and sprinkled with olives and sliced grape tomatoes. Homemade muffins look amazing. Edit: Just catching up over the summer reviews. When we woke up the morning of our flight, we decided we had a chat about breakfast and decided, yes we were going to try a greasy spoon breakfast in the area. There's a few options in the area. This looked like the mom and pop type joint we wanted to check out. It looked like the no frills type spot we grew up eating at. We walked down to the area and walked inside. It was packed and we weren't sure if people were in line so we stood outside. A kind patron opened the door and let us know we had to put our name on the list. We did, asked how long the wait was, 20 minutes and thought it wasn't that bad. 10 minutes later they came out to get us as a lot of groups in front of us were much larger so we got pretty lucky. They gave us a seat on the outdoor patio. A little while later we got our menu. A little while after that, somebody came out to check if we needed a coffee. We let them know we were ready to order and somebody was sent out to take our order as well as bring us a coffee. Ordered the basic 2 eggs with bacon, home fries and toast. After a bit of a slow start our server was really good as well as the coffee crew. We got our breakfast in no time. From the looks of things the bacon is pretty close to how I like it. The bacon was alright and probably the highlight of breakfast. Secondly taste test were the eggs. The eggs were pretty bland. Finally took a fork of the home fries. Also bland. Unfortunately have to say the breakfast was pretty much bland all around. You've seen movies, TV shows, and photos of the Financial District, Wall Street, and Lower Manhattan showing it buzzing at a fast pace. Well, that imagery is obviously relevant from Monday through Friday. That's because the area is far quieter and less populated than people might think on weekends. I was in the area and needed to eat breakfast. I was given the name of a few places that looked and sounded like they had more je ne sais quoi than I needed, so I told them to give me the name of a conventional place. They told me about George's and that it's a mere few blocks south of the World Trade Center area. As I approached, George's had a good feel about it. It's in a low rise building and, you'd be surprised, there are more of them in between the skyscrapers than you might think. It had windows all around and the signage seemed "cheerful," for lack of a better word. I went in, was seated right away, and was provided with a menu. They had seating inside and the weather permitted outdoor seating, of which there is some. I chose to sit inside but asked for a table near the windows. The menu at George's is vast, with breakfast and lunch staples. The server also confirmed that the establishment has Greek lineage. That being said, I knew I was in a place that would resonate with me! I ordered one of those platters with pancakes, eggs, meats, toast, and coffee. The prices were higher than in a secondary city, but okay for being on that once-upon-a-time $24 island we now know as Manhattan. With this kind of food, nothing is usually stellar, but it was definitely good and the portions were satisfying. The employees were very affable. I think that the weekend milieu makes everyone more relaxed and, while they were busy, they were not bursting at the seams. Also, if you go over to the left from where you come in, there is another area where there will be a glass case from which you can order things to go and get baked goods and the like. George's (Yiorgos in Greek ... that way I can deliver on being pedantic) is a solid breakfast and lunch joint. Its history in this part of Lower Manhattan is fairly long. If you are in this area and want an unpretentious and abundant breakfast or lunch, I recommend it. On the weekend, and one with good weather, being able to sit near a window or outside and enjoy a quieter Lower Manhattan is a side dish of its own. I'm going with 4 stars. read more

You can skip this place - well, the burgers at least. With so many other fabulous options in New York, you never have to settle for subpar. As a visitor, I aim to make to most of my precious time in this concert wasteland, which means enjoying every bite of grub at every restaurant. I wasn't thrilled on spending two hours and a shit ton of money on meh food. After studying their huge menu, I ordered the Caprese Burger, medium (mozzarella, plum tomato, basil, balsamic dressing). Right away, I noticed the burger missing half of its namesake ingredients - the tomato and balsamic. I'll bet my money they pre-assembled this guy, stuck him in the microwave once ordered and completely forgot to add the last two ingredients. I tried my hardest to get the server's attention to no avail. My party was halfway through their plates when I decided to cut my losses. All could have been forgiven if the burger was good without said missing parts. It wasn't. It was dry, way overdone and lacked any kind of flavor whatsoever. The basil was absolutely useless. I couldn't even finish. After all the disappointment I figured I deserved a lil sweet treat. The Carrot Cake was delicious. The cream cheese frosting was real, and the cake was very moist and tasted pretty fresh. The slice was large, too much for me to finish. It was a shame I wasted so much space on a cruddy sandwich when I could've just filled up on this. In conclusion, I wouldn't recommend George's. If you do go, order a piece of cake. Maybe I'll return in the future and try their breakfast, since that's what they're known for...I guess. read more

George's is one of my favorite places to get breakfast because they pretty much have anything you are craving in the morning. You get seated quickly, the food comes quickly, and the servers are always on point, which is rare during rush hour in the morning. It is consistently like that. It gets pretty busy during rush hour, so if you are seated upstairs, don't worry because they are just as attentive there as well. Everything is good, from the bacon, eggs and country fried steak, to the pancakes, french toast and bagel with lox. They are big portions, so you can share multiple things if you go with someone and can't decide what to get. They also offer to go orders and freshly baked goods if you are in a rush. This was one of the only restaurants we found in New York that wasn't a cramped narrow hall for us to try and shove our stroller through to grab a bit to eat. The menu had a vast variety of breakfast items with unique flavors, such as red velvet or brownie waffles, banana raisin French toast, and apple cinnamon pancakes! You can also add on a scoop of ice cream if you want to be really enjoying the sweet tooth. Don't let the sweet flavors and toppings fool you- they also had Greek yogurt, bacon, omelets, and eggs Benedicts for those who enjoy a more savory, protein-fueled meal to start their day. Overall we had a great time and it was one of the best and easiest restaurants to visit, with no wait time and ample service. And...a functioning bathroom. The brunch bells were ringing and George's popped up in my search, so we headed that way. It was Saturday morning so we figured there would be a wait anywhere we went. We got lucky and were seated immediately. As you enter, there is a to go counter for ordering to your left, and to the right you wait to be seated. We loaded up on coffee and then started our food adventures. Breakfast burrito, breakfast quesadilla, Belgian waffle, and croissant french toast. Everything was great, but the croissant french toast was exceptional It came well plated with a strawberry in the shape of a flower and a side of Nutella mousse. Wow! The hostess was very nice and seated us immediately on the second floor, which was quite spacious and more quieter. The staff was very friendly and met all of our requests and needs. The bagel was delicious, my only issue was the cream cheese seemed to be spread a bit messily on the bagel but besides that it was great because it came with a lot of salmon. Met my niece and baby great niece for brunch after the baby's global entry interview. Yes, even baby's can get global entry. A little jet setter at 10 weeks old. The cinnamon sauce that comes with is to die for. Really you could die happy drinking this concoction. Fruit is fresh and enough. Each bite just leaves you wanting to order another. This restaurant is known to the locals so it can get crowded. They do takeout too. Looks and feels like a diner but the food delivers so much more and some locations are bigger than others. Tourists have really questionable taste. I actually stopped by here over the summer with the Millennial Chum for a quick lunch and had a mystifying Eggs Benedict situation- they overcooked the egg so it wasn't poached anymore. I remember poking the egg and nothing happening, only to investigate and realize it had been cooked all the way through. I was so confused I didn't even bother to write a review. Well, I came back because my Skipper wanted some comfort food and claimed this place was "famous." Since it was 30 degrees and I wasn't particularly keen on walking more than a few blocks, I returned for additional punishment. Right off the bat, it was abundantly clear we were in the minority. At least 90% of the customers were very obviously tourists - if they weren't sporting brand new NYC hats, they were peering out at the street or up at the skyscrapers in awe. Keep in mind that George's is probably two, maybe three blocks from the 9/11 site, so I don't think they can avoid catering to that demographic to some extent. It's also SUPER cluttered/congested in there, even by NYC standards. They probably squeezed in an extra three tables upstairs, and coupled with the (I assume) COVID-era wood dividers between the seating areas, there isn't a lot of extra space. The divider next to us was pretty beat up, and while it did provide a bit more privacy from the other tables, I don't think it was worth the sacrifice of the extra foot or so of physical range. I'd accidentally consumed a lot of Italian/dairy-esque food the day before so focused my attention on the sweeter diner offerings (also, how could I risk the Benedicts again?) - I ordered the red velvet pancakes, with one scrambled egg. The pancakes were really mediocre. The gold standard for me when it comes to red velvet pancakes is the Toast location in Montclair, NJ - they're bigger, with a nice crisp to them. These were soggy and way too chewy. The cream cheese topping was sparingly applied, and only onto the top pancake. As a result, the last two pancakes were pretty tasteless in addition to the texture issues. Syrup WAS provided so I could have added that, but the cream cheese topping is a way better accompaniment and it wouldn't have changed my opinion on the dish overall. The scrambled egg was fine; given the issues with the pancakes, I should have ordered at least one or two more eggs, and they for sure needed the generous dousing of pepper I put them on. But at least these eggs were cooked to order. The service was efficient as you'd expect at an NYC diner, but pretty brusque. That mildly surprised me just because they have so many tourists coming in here and you'd think they'd want to give them a little more charm/hospitality than the average bear, but that wasn't the case here. No one was mean to us, but it was a lot of clipped sentences and very quick exchanges. That said, the food came out in a timely manner, which was the most important aspect. I really can't envision a scenario where I stop back in here. Fool me once, but we're now getting into the territory where I have no one else to blame but the gorgeous creature in the mirror. The diner across the street (Zaza) is significantly better and less congested. read more
