Fortunately, we found Zaza Diner just a five-minute walk away. Our first impression was very positive; the diner was modern and exceptionally clean. The hostess was friendly, and we were seated immediately--there was no waiting at all. Our server was attentive and asked us what we would like to drink, and then a second waiter came by to take our food orders. We ordered a Western egg omelet with home fries and multigrain bread. It was a classic diner meet modern Manhattan moment there were people from so many different walks of life at lunch, folks on lunch break, families and tourist just to name a few. The menu had so much variety to choose from, it took me a while to pick what to get - eventually, I decided on the eggs a la Zaza, which is a smoked salmon benefict - and it didn't disappoint! It was very delicious, the eggs were perfectly poached, and the hollandaise was flavorful. The ambience of the restaurant was great and added to the experience too - the decor makes it feel very homey, but at the same time it has an upscale and chic vibe, despite it being a diner. My friend and I went to Zaza Diner for brunch on a Friday at 10:30am. I did not think a random diner in the financial district would need reservations, but when I arrived, it was POPPING! I would recommend making a reservation if you come here during a peak dining hour. Fortunately, several tables turned when we put our names down, so we only had to wait 10 minutes. The interior is like an upscale diner. They have a pretty display case with their pastries and the classic long diner booths. The prices on the menus online are higher than what they are, and I paid in cash for a discount. I do not remember the prices, but I remember thinking they were reasonable for the location. My friend ordered the breakfast nachos, and I ordered what I believe was called American breakfast. My friend enjoyed the nachos and only did not finish them because the portion size was huge. For me, I chose the breakfast because it is one of the few I have seen that came with a croissant. I wish they told me that everything would be on the croissant. If so, I would have asked for the components separated. The sandwich ended up being pretty greasy, which would not happen if I had everything separate. However, the home fries were delicious! If you like crispiness on your home fries, you will appreciate them here. Service here was non-existent with the exception of our orders being taken and delivered. There were no check-backs or water refills, and we had to go to the front of the restaurant to pay. However, the front-of-the-house staff made up for that with their helpfulness and positivity. If you are in the area, I think this is a nice place to eat, but it is not somewhere I would go out of my way for. read more

It took a little while for a server to come over but the menu is huge so I appreciated the extra time. I ordered the corned beef Reuben with a side salad instead of fries. The salad was the best thing. The Reuben was served open faced, which I don't really like, but can look past that if the flavor is there. The menu says it comes with a spicy mustard. The one they brought me only had bread, sauerkraut, meat and cheese. I asked the server to bring me a side of thousand island dressing. I was really disappointed. The cheese was congealed and not gooey. It was really dry because it wasn't cooked with any sauce on it. I would go back to try other items. I'll skip the Reuben though! read more

Like any proper diner, the menu is huge and covers just about everything you can think of. The last couple of times I've gone for lunch, I ended up ordering breakfast and it just hits differently. There's something really comforting about having two eggs, toast, potatoes, and coffee in the middle of the day. What a gem in a jungle of pretentious, overpriced and usually lousy hotel restaurants. After having the most miserable "breakfast" in the snotty 20th floor eatery at Club Quarters- truly God awful, both food and service--I stumbled upon Zaza's... and wow, what a difference. Friendly as can be service from the tall, mature gentleman and a huge plate of absolutely delicious food. A giant omelette that was perfectly cooked ... a beautiful side salad with fabulous honey mustard that must be homemade... grilled chicken (I like the extra protein) that had the most delicious flavor ... and amazingly good chicken noodle soup .. also homemade, I'm sure. Liked it so much I went back the following day and enjoyed every minute. This will be my regular stop when I'm in the city next. If you're hungry and want real food.. not pretension on a plate...
