After we ordered, I asked for fresh napkin - it never came, but as soon as I stole on from nearby empty table that was replaced. Oil and vinegar was not delivered with one of our salads even though it was requested up front. Food was average for our neighborhood. Service was sub-standard. Noise level was way to loud. Dined there with a friend and we both had the Prix-Fixe Menu selection. House Salad and Fried Zucchinis were excellent, fresh and large portions. I had the Sirloin Au Poivre as my main and my friend had the Filet of Sole Piccata. Both were well prepared, fresh and nicely sized portions. Service was attentive, warm, friendly and well timed. Started with a missing appetizer, to my steak being raw, rare is one thing, this was raw., it was brought back out and you waitress never checked that it came back out ok, then we ordered a round of drinks that never came, till we had to ask the bus boy, again waitress never came back, then my husband asked for a candle in the dessert and we ordered cappuccino and coffee and tea... well dessert was delivered with no candle, we pretended with the fake candle on the table and then we never got the cappuccino or coffees till again we had to ask, which at this point we finished dessert.. when the waitress finally came over she remembered the candle and brought a cup of whipped cream, alittle too late! Even after getting new management, this place really sucks. Had the grilled chicken sandwich for lunch and even the balsamic glaze could not save this. sandwich. It was less than mediocre. My colleague had the Chicken Scarpaiello and it was the worst he ever had. The sauce was excessively vinegary and was too sour. I don't think they know how to make Italian food. Please don't get me started on the wine, it was just terrible. The best was the bread basket. The waitress, that's another story, she had a bad attitude and lousy personality. She was absent through our whole meal because she was too busy on her phone. Needless to say, we will not be returning, which is a shame because we live down the block. The first time I had a prime burger from them (start of quarantine), it was AMAZING. The beef was incredible and cooked to perfection. Each time since then the quality has drastically declined. The beef doesn't taste high quality at all and it's always overcooked. At $18 a burger (they charge for cheese and other toppings), it's not worth it anymore. Also the calamari was the absolute worst I've ever had in my life. It reeked of fish before I even opened the container. The breading was extremely gritty and not crispy at all. And it had an abnormal fishy taste. Obviously these were take out orders so maybe it's better at the restaurant; though I can't imagine a less than 5 minute drive would make the quality decline that much. I was in the mood for a good steak tonight for dinner. We decided why not give George White in Syosset a try. I am so glad we did. It's about 15 minutes from the house. I love the ambience of the restaurant and the music. Joe was our attentive waiter. Thursday night at George White is steak night. We had the Caesar Salad, Filet Mignon with mash potatoes and broccoli and the Chef Dessert. The medium rare Filet Mignon was delicious and flavorful! For main course we chose the Chicken Marsala with a side of macaroni and cheese, the Chicken Marsala portion was generous (lunch leftovers for 2) and cooked perfectly with classic Marsala sauce that everyone loved.The Mac n cheese was tasty and of course homemade, it paired really well with the chicken. The Dessert of the day was 4 large cannolis with chocolate chips and whipped cream, simply delicious! Delicious food, great price and contactless pickup. Visited the old Mim's location, I was greeted by a barmaid that was at most semi friendly , that is when she could put her phone down.. oh and her dog too.. Yes , the staff seems to think it's okay to carry a dog behind the bar and around the restaurant and pass it around to customers at bar height .. Now , I'm aware that there are emotional support dogs , but not the case here . The health department has certain rules about why dogs should not be up on the bar in a serving area .. The place was quiet tonight , we ordered a few drinks from a man who was doing inventory because our bartender was busy on the phone again .. he was polite.. We ordered some quesadillas and Mexican fare , it was tasty not dry .. this accounts for the second star... Sorry guys, dogs on the bar and lackluster service .. you get 2 stars read more

Not really sure what happened to this restaurant. Used to be much better when it was Grillefire and then George Martin. Ate there for the first time since they changed their menu. The front of the menu is American and the back is now Mexican. The American selections became more limited, taking off some favorites like ahi tuna. The Mexican side is just strange. We ordered nachos which came with liquid cheese wiz on them. At least use real cheese. They should concentrate on just one food type and get that right. Service was slow and inattentive. My husband and I have lived in Woodbury for thirty years and dine out a few times a week. Over the years, we have been to countless restaurants in the area, but have never experienced what happened this past Saturday night at George White, formerly Mims, in Syosset. I ordered a dish from the daily specials: Veal Chop Marsala stuffed with prosciutto and fontina. When our dinner was served, I cut into the chop and discovered it was not stuffed as described. There was also little meat to be found, as the T-Bone chop was nearly all bone, with only a few bites of actual veal. I brought this to the attention of our waitress and an assistant manager, who both agreed and took my dish back to the kitchen to show the chef. The two soon returned and insisted they wanted me to be happy and to order a replacement dish, since they were out of veal chops. My husband already finished his meal, and, as it was getting late, I declined their offer. When they insisted on doing something to help, I suggested an adjustment to the check would be sufficient. They then went to confer with the manager and returned with our unadjusted check and apologized because the manager did not give consideration to the kitchen's shortcoming. We paid the check in full, and as we were leaving, I was approached by a different manager, who asked about our dining experience. I promptly told him everything, and he listened and said he too wanted to make me happy. As I repeated that an adjustment to the check would be satisfactory, we were interrupted by another member of the staff, who claimed to be in charge. This man then proceeded to lecture us on his culinary education and business experience and the cost of a veal chop. The bottom line: he was not willing to do anything with the check, and if we were not satisfied, then go ahead and "write your bad review." The irony is when I returned home and went on Yelp and OpenTable, I found a suspicious review, posted mere moments after we left the restaurant, which fictitiously described the situation, seemingly in an attempt to combat our anticipated negative comments. In response to that post: George Martin - Reviewthere were no tears, no one raised their voice, and people at other tables did not know of any issue. In addition, I noticed a pattern of five-star reviews for the restaurant on OpenTable written over the last couple of months with an uncanny resemblance in vocabulary and style to Saturday's post. In each instance, the post was written by a first-time reviewer. It would be interesting to know who actually wrote these reviews. Syosset has an abundance of good restaurants to choose from, several in walking distance of this establishment. When dining out, make your choice through word of mouth recommendations and legitimate online reviews. This was a problem that could have easily been corrected by the management had they been a bit more considerate of their guests. read more

I have never reviewed a restaurant before, but after my experience last night, I couldn't not say something. I was looking forward to eating here as I always had great experiences when it was George Martin's. I'm sad to say that was not my experience this time. My husband and I, along with my two boys, patiently waited for our food. I received my salad which was supposed to have a balsamic vinaigrette on it only had oil on it. Okay, no biggie. My sons's food came out. One ordered a cheeseburger, medium well, and the other a BBQ chicken taco with no BBQ sauce and rice with beans. Well, there was BBQ sauce and he got french fries instead. So we sent it back. My other son took a bite of his burger and it was raw on the inside. We told the waiter, who apologized, and I asked to speak to a manager. The waiter took the food and walked away. Then the filets that we both ordered, medium, came out rare. Again, had to send our food back. Our son's burger came back out medium well as well as our filets which is not how we like our steaks. Still no manager in site. After waiting as long as we did for our food and were very hungry at that point we just ate them as it was getting late. Our meals came with brownies for dessert, and they were underwhelming to say the least with no flavor at all. Even the boys didn't want to eat them. As it was getting late, we asked for the check and asked about the manager. The waiter again apologized for the mishap with the food and dropped the check and wished us a good night. Honestly, if it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have given any stars, but he was very nice and super accommodating to the kids's requests for extra chips and salsa and drink refills. Sadly, I will not visit this establishment again and definitely would not recommend it to friends. For a kitchen staff to get so much wrong when there were only a handful of tables seated at the time is inexcusable. Sad is the only word that I can use to describe our experience. read more

Came here to celebrate my coworkers birthday. It was 7 of us, we made reservations for a Wednesday night. We were seated immediately, the waiter was very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and amazing. We ordered crab cakes & calamari for appetizers, really tasty great sauce. For dinner we ordered the filet mignon, flat iron and skirt steak. All steaks were cooked to perfection!! Juicy melt in your mouth delicious. Now let's talk about the scallops risotto OMG!!! The waiter recommended it and we were so glad we tried it.
