House made cookie with chocolate ice cream

Excellent birthday meal tonight. Beth was our waitress and she is TOP KNOTCH! Enjoyed potstickers as an appetizer, hubby had a Caesar salad and we both enjoyed the blackened halibut over gnocchi with poblano peppers, and red peppers. So hood ! Dessert included a warm chocolate chip cookie with house made chocolate ice cream along with an espresso martini and Woodford Reserve! So wonderful! People..you've got to go here! It was lively at times but such a nice place to eat!

Crab Stuffed Chicken

We got the Mac and Cheese as an appetizer and it was really good and a little spicy but not too spicy just the right amount. The bread and house made butter that they served was also very good!! My crab stuffed chicken was pretty good, but I'm not sure I would get it again. It needed a bit more flavor or maybe to be served with something else as the flavors all seemed to mesh together. Our server was adorable and attentive and very helpful. The vibe is a bit more casual than I thought it would be (I saw people in jeans and hoodies), but that doesn't really matter to me- just thought it might be helpful to know. :) overall, a good spot!!

Gentelin's is an upscale dining experience. My friend treated me here as a congrats for getting a new job. This was the perfect celebration restaurant! Friend had made reservations, so we were seated right away. We ordered drinks -they were both made well and delicious. My friend ordered a house special drink and really enjoyed it. I got my standard White Russian and loved it. I ordered the ribeye over potatoes and asparagus. They had another offering that had crispy onions on them and I really wanted those so I asked for a side of those as well and the server impressed me with "I'll just bring you a lil side to top your steak if you like" - which she did and they were so amazing! The little things can really take your experience up a notch. My steak was so tender and well seasoned. Delicious. Friend ordered a seafood dish and she really liked it. She also had a salad with her order which I tried and it was above average. I really enjoyed it! They provided a table bread basket that we also quickly devoured - the butter was unique like seasoned with herbs - YUM! The service was consistent, courteous and helpful. Everything you would expect from an upscall dining experience. The view from the dining room looks out over the river and provides a nice ambience. The only thing I didn't love was that they seated us at a tiny, not comfortable table for 2 right up against a wall and backing to another wall. It was an awkward placement. Yes, we were a party of 2 so it does makes sense... but the restaurant never filled up and the table is too small for 2 with all the dishes. We had to move our waters and bread to a lil ledge because the table was so full. So maybe ask for a larger table as needed when you make reservations.

Me and my son were passing through looking for some upscale food. We found it. Absolutely delicious. We had to sit at the bar because it was busy. Busy is good. The girls working the bar were super friendly, quick, and accommodating. The food was delicious. I will absolutely come back to explore the menu.

The other day I meet up with some of my cousins for Happy Hour. I cannot go wrong with one of the HH pizzas. Three of the six cousins, ordered pizza with different toppings. I went with the HH Taco's. I enjoyed Two Shrimp Taco's for only $7. The HH pizzas are $10. Three cousins went with the regular menu and enjoyed salads, chicken wings and chicken strips/tenders. Everyone was pleased with their food. The only thing keeping B&H from getting 5 Stars is the service. It's never consistent. One time it's over the top and the next time it's the bare minimum. It really depends on who you get as a server. The seasoned ones who have been for a long time, know how to work a table. The newer and younger ones, just don't get it. They don't hustle and as their station fills up, they get overwhelmed and everything goes downhill. When: January 7, 2026 Why: Happy Hour with the cousins

At first I thought it was a bad call by the landlord. Now that they are located in Elsah, I realize he did them a favor. Beau and Terri rallied and took on the challenge of relocating their restaurant. They searched hight and low and found the perfect location in Elsah, just 8 miles north of the old location. Elsah welcomed them with open arms and issued them the first liquor license in the history of the township. Since the relocation I have been multiple times for lunch. You cannot go wrong with their famous Mushroom Asparagus Soup or one of the popular Paninis. I've also been to a wine dinner that impressed me and my cousin who is a wine connoisseur. The wine and food were paired beautifully. Experiencing a regular dinner in the boutique dinning room is also a delight. Their menu changes regularly, but I must say when you see Terri's Lasagna being offered, that is a sign to order it. You will not be disappointed. All the servers and staff are spectacular. It blows my mind how many of them can remember the names of all their regulars. It makes for a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Next time you're traveling the River Road, take a detour into Elsah and visit State Street on LaSalle.

From its humble beginning as a chicken shack on Fosterburg Road, this Italian family owned and run gem has grown to become the best in the area. They are most known locally for their outstanding "talk n chick" fried chicken and their fabulous Italian dishes and soups. They have a popular take out service with a separate counter and room on the south side of the building with slightly lower prices. The interior is unique with several odd-shaped dining rooms and two bars due to building expansions wrapping completely around the original chicken shack, which now is the kitchen, with a salad preparation basement room underneath. The Moonlight still has one dining room with now unused large interior front staircase that goes to the old front east entrance since the main entrance was relocated to the north side of the building where the parking lot is located. On the west (rear) side is the primary bar and a banquet room that is frequently used for local seminars and marketing presentations. Special meeting or special occasion? This is your place. Love the tortellini soup and the Italian dishes are top notch. Nice main bar and a great side room off the lobby for special gatherings. You won't go wrong if you go here.

Thick meaty thighs, curvaceous legs and wings that look as if the chicken has been pumping iron at the local gym. Big pieces, crispy flavorful coating and juicy meat. I primarily do carry-out and the quality of their take out is equally as good as when dining in the restaurant. Pick-up is smooth and fast, as they have a separate entrance and room for take-out. The staff is friendly and very professional. The service has that family owned business feel. If you're a fan of Onion Rings, I recommend enjoying an order as an appetizer. Their rings are super big and made in house. I do not like onion rings that come from a bag. When ordering my sides, I like mashed potatoes with white gravy. They also offer brown gravy, if that is your thing. My other side is always green beans. They make their green beans with bacon and onion. It reminds me of my momma's. With those two sides, it is a true Sunday Chicken Dinner on any day of the week. I've been coming to Castelli's my entire life. I started coming here as a child when it was called, Moonlight. Many of the locals still call it, Moonlight and no-one will correct them, because we all know where they are talking about. Service in the carry-out room is always speedy and friendly. So if you're a fan of fried chicken, I recommend ordering on-line for a pick-up. Or, treat yourself to a night out and dine in the restaurant. Remember to order the onion rings.

Our server was very friendly and answered any questions we had and was also enthusiastic about our car-buying process, encouraging celebratory drinks. The food was delicious! The building does a lot of the work here: an old place sitting in the middle of Old Town Florissant's residential blocks, with a bar, a dining room, a porch, and a patio we didn't get to use (next cool evening, we will). It's charming, and a real asset to that neighborhood. It is also loud. Old plaster, hard surfaces, not enough hung on the walls to absorb any of it. The old fashioned was solid, sweeter than I prefer. Appetizers were the low point: toasted ravioli thick and hard enough to qualify as gum scratchers (filling was fine), flatbread middle of the road. Then the kitchen found its footing. Parmesan-encrusted chicken won the table, with a nice rice-orzo pilaf and green beans that weren't overcooked. The Jameson whiskey burger came blue cheese, bacon, crispy onions, glaze, brioche, and ate dry (although ordered medium): too many rich flavors, nothing acidic to cut through them. Burnt ends mac and cheese was good and rich, but the brisket wasn't tender as I had hoped. We caught a night with only one dessert (a moist Lemon Sunshine cake that tasted like a Dreamsicle) and ice cream to put beside it. Christy took good care of us, efficiently and strictly by the book. 3.7 out of 5 stars Punch up the apps, and bring some balance to some of the entrees and this would bring up my rating to the low 4s. Bring the relatives who flinch at a menu. Acid somewhere on the plate, tender brisket, ice cream by the cake, and something soft on those walls would move this up quickly.

I've been to the Alton Belle twice now, but I only made the mistake of eating at their buffet once. It was...less than acceptable. If you like to people-watch, you'll be pleased with the odd array of folks that hang out here. It's NOTHING like a Vegas casino. We're talking disabled people who don't appear to have moved from a single slot machine in years, retirees blowing their Social Security checks on the penny slots, gap-toothed cocktail waitresses, and good ole boys from the nearby farming communities acting like they're in Ocean's 11 or something as they puzzle their way through the basics of blackjack. There are exceptions, of course, but overall, this place is kind of a freakshow. Anyway, I've been twice now because they do occasionally have really good concerts. I saw Air Supply here in 2007, along with Loverboy a bit later. It's an extremely small venue, and if you get there early, you can usually snag a decent seat (but be warned, the front seats are typically reserved for people who have some kind of special relationship with the casino. Acoustically, it's an imperfect venue. For seating, it's even worse (all of the seats are level, so if someone tall is front of you...too bad). Still, the acts they bring in are worthwhile and the venue feels very intimate. I should also mention that thanks to wonderful new regulation in Illinois, smokers are not welcome inside the casino. You'll still get the occasional whiff of it from someone whose clothing is tainted, but the bigger concern these days is body odor. Now if they could just outlaw that one...
