Excellent food! Wine Wednesday is a favorite!! Wonderful atmosphere. A favorite for a date night or the whole family.

We will be going back if we are back in that area. There is plenty of parking in the lots around the restaurant. We made reservations ahead of time and were seated right away when we arrived. The waitress was great. They bring out a herb bread with butter. We ordered the bone marrow and crab cakes to start off. Both were good. Caesar salad was also good. Do not order the french onion soup. It was the worst we have ever eaten. It was basically perfectly clean bowl with a light brown liquid and dried up croutons and tried to melt a cheese in it. Tasted horrible and was not hot/warm. Okay now back to the good. Steaks were fabulous - top 10 for sure. Lobster tail was good and the asparagus was cooked perfect. Dessert was good but the creme brûlée was in a really shallow dish. Wish the dish was bigger/deeper. There was some kind of peanut butter chocolate dessert that was phenomenal- yummy! The inside was nice and not too loud. We will definitely go back minus the soup. read more

Sunday Brunch! As I got ready to write my review for this mornings Brunch experience, I realized I have never written one for all the dinners I have enjoyed here. Bad me, guess I'll have to come back and enjoy another one and write about it. Anyway, back to this mornings brunch. I started out with an Espresso Martini. Why drink coffee on a hot day, when you can enjoy a chilled and refreshing martini. I took my time reading the menu and changing my mind multiple times as I sipped the masterfully made martini. After finishing my martini, I was ready to order my entree. I went with the, Crab Cake Benedict. It's kinda a traditional Benedict, but with a couple of twist. It has the English Muffin foundation, but is topped with two crab cakes and the soft poached eggs on top of the crab cakes. Then they top it all with a "spicy hollandaise sauce" and top the sauce is topped with sprigs of Arugula. I love spice, so the spicy hollandaise made my day. The eggs were poached perfectly and you can never go wrong with crab cakes. I'm not a fan of Arugula, so I just politely pushed it aside. My second adult beverage while I enjoyed my entree was a, Mimosa made with pineapple juice. It was National Pineapple Juice Day (I follow food holidays) and who wants to drink plain ole juice. Like my espresso, I just created a cocktail. The service was top notch. I enjoyed my server, she recommended the crab cakes and I can see why they're her favorite. The bartender was cool and made two great cocktails. My food was brought out of the kitchen by one of the cooks and that impressed me. He was very personable. We celebrated a graduation tonight at 1818 Chophouse in Edwardsville, and I've gone back and forth about writing this review because the food was very good and our waiter, Sam, was excellent. Professional, attentive, warm, and honestly one of the best parts of the evening. But something happened at the beginning of the night that did not sit right with us. I made a reservation for four. When our Black family arrived, the hostess attempted to seat us at what appeared to be the worst table in the restaurant. It was right next to the kitchen traffic and directly under the wall thermostat/control panel area. Meanwhile, there was another much better four-top nearby sitting empty. I asked if we could sit there instead, and the hostess immediately said yes. At first, we tried not to think too much about it. But over an hour later, that original table still remained empty while the restaurant filled up. Then eventually another Black family was seated there. At that point, all of us noticed the pattern. I quietly walked through the restaurant myself and realized those were the only two Black parties in the restaurant. Maybe it's a coincidence. Maybe it's poor training. Maybe it's one hostess making bad seating choices. But it did not feel good, and it was hard to ignore. I am posting this because I do NOT think Black customers should avoid this restaurant. The food was very good. The service from Sam was outstanding. But I do think Black customers should pay attention and advocate for themselves if they are directed to that table or another undesirable location when better seating is clearly available. We were seated in a large Booth. Easy for younger people to sit, harder for older people to scoot around. We were in a corner by a door that was used quite a bit by employees bring empty boxes out of. We chose to come earlier in the evening. Our waiter knew the menu and specials very well. However, he did fail to mention a up charge for the Mushroom Soup as a side. He did remove a drink for that mistake to make up for it. One daughter got Alfredo and it was very floury tasting. Another got the mac n cheese and it was low in flavor as well. Though the kids portions were worth the price. All of the adult items were very good. Crab Ravioli Appetizer came with 4 Ravioli and was very good, but for the price I thought the portion was on the small side. Stuffed Pork Chop - Though this was delicous, it was More bone than meat. The stuffing, demi glaze and onions were very flavorful. Brown Sugar Braised Chicken - this was good though missing the sweetness of the brown sugar. Steak Medallion Salad- was absolutely fabulous! I've been here a couple times and really enjoy it. Staff is friendly and atmosphere is chill and upscale. The deviled eggs are outstanding and shareable. Six to an order and each one topped with a Lucious piece of pancetta. The shrimp and grits was sort of a miss for me. The dish lacked balance and too many things competing with one another. Way too much grits compared to the amount of shrimp. The bacon braised collard greens kind of drowned out the shrimp, and the garlic demi glaze just didn't bring this together. Shrimp & grits is a less-is-more dish. This wasn't bad, just not for me. The chicken Marsala, on the other hand, was excellent! Juicy tender bone-in chicken atop hand made fettuccine in a rich Marsala cream sauce. A really refreshing spin on a classic. Thoroughly enjoyed it. You can also count on fresh salads, bread, and seasonal soups. Haven't gotten around to the dessert menu yet. Probably not a bad idea to make a reservation. Definitely recommend. read more

This was my first time eating here. The atmosphere is so pleasing and serene, I felt so comfortable. My husband and I were out driving and looked up restaurants in the area, and this place had 5 stars, which we understood why when we entered. We came a little earlier than our reservation, which I highly recommend. We were seated immediately with no problem and greeted so warmly by everyone,including the manager. We were served some delicious warm bread with tasty and creamy butter to top it. My husband ordered the New York strip with delicious asparagus spears. The steak was prepared medium well. It was mouth watering and very flavorful, no need for anything to top it. I had the chicken Marsala, the noodles were hand made that morning,which I could tell. The pasta was very flavorful and delicious. The portion size was ample and I had the pleasure to take some home. We were so full, did not get a chance to try the desserts. We will definitely come back,especially for the outdoor music when weather permits. I highly recommend this place for romantic dinner or bringing out of town guests or just meeting friends for dinner. You will not be disappointed. read more

We had a nice brunch. We made a reservation for two for a bar room table but none were available. We were seated in the dining room. The ambiance was nice for brunch. Our waitress was very good, attentive without being pushy. We ordered cocktails. It took a significant amount of time to get our drinks. We had the appetizer of the Vermont goat cheese brulee. We both ordered the beef medallions with truffle fries. I ordered medium while my son ordered medium rare. Our food was brought out hot and fresh. The goat cheese brulee was awesome...highly recommend. Truffle fries.... Delicious. The beef medallions were a little salty (and I like salt). Mine were a little overcooked. She asked for a well done steak, (I prefer medium rare, but my mom gets what she's want on Mother's Day) and they constantly kept bringing it back medium to medium rare. I haven't dined in before, but was craving a french dip and saw that had one so I did a carry out order. It was 5 star hands down. The au jus may be the best I've ever had. For $16, including fries - this was a steal for amazing food. The meat was really piled on - I had half for dinner and will have lunch tomorrow with the rest! read more

We used to live in Edwardsville, so 1818 was always a special place for special occasions offering special food (delicious) with special (expensive) prices. They relocated to a newer location which I don't particularly care for. Feel like the tables in the dining area are on top of each other and the lighting bright. In the other spot, the restaurant had a moody and cozy feel without feeling ' close' to other diners. In our recent visit, I overheard all the guests' conversations seated near us. Server was great. Good was great. Restaurant was tastefully decorated for Christmas. We didn't get dessert or wine, so I was pleasantly surprised the meal for two was less than $100. The visit before was my husband's birthday. They brought dessert with a flaming candle. Would have loved a slice of chocolate cake instead after seeing a child get THAT for his birthday celebration. Order a Rubin sandwich. Not sure the cheese was Swiss cheese as it was a melted mess. The sandwich had been thrown on a greasy grill and bread was marble rye but I had to look closely to be sure because the bread was almost black. Basically it was a sloppy mess and I ate it with a knife and fork. Just a hint but a panini press. read more

My wife and I had a gift card for 1818 Chophouse and decided to use to celebrate our anniversary. we're first timers and had only reviewed their menu online. The restaurant is somewhat more upscale than we normally go to. We made reservations about five days in advance. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant was very nice and perfectly decorated for a special event like an anniversary. we entered and were immediately seated. our server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. My wife picked the Filet Mignon and I opted for the Ribeye special. We also ordered crab cakes as an appetizer. our drinks came out quickly followed by the crab cakes. The cakes had a nice odor or seafood and were cooked perfectly and seated on a Chipotle Aioli. The cakes were a little small, but very good and the aioli sauce was a nice addition. our salads arrived and were good as well. Our entrees arrived and looked very nice. we both ordered the mashed potatoes. I ordered my steak medium and it was a little more rare, but still fine. I was not a big fan of the balsamic drizzle on the steak. It really took the flavor of the beef away, which should've been the star of the show. My wife had included in our reservation that is was our anniversary and our serve brought out a creme brulee with fresh strawberries on top. "Happy Anniversary" was written out in the plate in a red sauce. That was very nice. This was a nice experience and something we wouldn't normally do, but well worth doing for a special event. read more

JUST BAD! Took my wife for a special birthday dinner and it was completely disappointing. We each ordered the $58 small filet, my wife with the side Caesar, and I ordered the mushroom bisque. The Caesar had virtually no dressing and no sardines (we asked for) and my mushroom bisque was barely warm. I excused this hoping our steaks would make up for h this lapse, but no. My wife ordered medium plus, and it came out medium rare. I ordered medium rare and it was virtually raw. We sent each back and they were even worse than the first. Dined here with my parents before the holidays. We didn't have a reservation but they were able to fit us in a quiet corner just before the dinner rush. Leah was our server, she was excellent. We started with the bacon wrapped dates and stuffed mushrooms and they were amazing 10/10 would recommend getting. I had a salad, which was an great light option for diner. My mom had a steak and my father had the fish special. Everything was coursed appropriately, all dishes were incredibly enjoyable, overall a wonderful experience. So much so that we ended up partaking in their catering menu for our Christmas dinner. We ordered the bone in pork roast (which was a generous volume for our table), whipped mashed potatoes, and of course, the bacon wrapped dates and stuffed mushrooms. Magnificent. Walk-in at 7pm on a Thursday night. Sat at a high-top table in the bar area. The bartender waited on us and the service was great. We ordered the goat cheese-stuffed dates. The burger, the chicken sandwich, the steak salad, and the mushroom ravioli. Everything tasted fantastic, but the ravioli was the best. It tasted like a rich steak sauce. I need to come back just for that. I took the chicken sandwich to my friend at work the next day and he loved it. My left-over steak salad was just was good the next day. Date night! Perfect choice for a nice night out with your family or friends. Seemed like many people were out celebrating birthdays, the holidays, and life! Our waiter was extremely helpful & kind, and the dining room was full of people enjoying delicious entrees. The bar area had live entertainment, which we could also hear from the dining room. I liked that! The bar area was also packed with plenty of people enjoying the live music and drinks/dishes. As for us, we shared the Tomahawk. We split it between the two of us, but still had the option of ordering individual salads. Mashed potatoes for our sides! So good. We also shared the Texas twinkie's for an app which did not disappoint! They aren't as spicy as we thought they would be, but still very yummy. Overall a wonderful experience! read more

We had previously eaten here for our anniversary and everything was excellent. However, our experience here last evening left much to be desired. Stuffed mushrooms were excellent. Those and the desserts were the best part of the meal. My husband had the 14 oz ribeye, substituted a baked potato and had a cup of clam chowder. He had no complaints. My granddaughter and I had the scallops; hers with a salad and I had a cup of the veggie soup. The problem with everything WE had except for her salad was WAY too salty! Oh my goodness! The scallops were also rubbery. Our waiter (bless his heart) appeared To be new and was very awkward. He came and just stood at the table Several times like he didn't know What to say. The food was superior everything that we had, was full of flavor! The appetizers were very appealing and flavorful, the salads were crispy fresh with appropriate delightful dressings! The steaks were cooked perfectly, and served Au Jus. The baked potato was perfect like it just came out of the oven! Our server, Sam did an amazing job. Very knowledgeable, very courteous and respectful. At one point another server bumped into him and he juggled a tray with cocktails on it and did so in such a way as that he saved my jacket! Sunday Brunch is always a good time but I can say that 1818 chophouse really wowed me with some of their options for brunch when I visited recently! I chose to go more the lunch route with savory options. I ordered the House Bistro Salad and the balance of flavors with strawberries, arugula, almonds, cheese and vinaigrette was so delicious that I tried to duplicate the salad at home. I also ordered the Buffalo prawns and I'm so glad I did! I would never have thought to combine blue cheese and mascarpone but it worked so well with the Buffalo sauce on the prawns. The prawns were perfectly cooked too (no rubbery flavor at all). I only wish there were more of them on the plate! I've been recommending 1818 chophouse to anyone visiting or living in the area because I enjoyed it so much. Great work to the team! read more

We ate the filet Mignon with mashed potatoes, Caesar salad and we added the 4 cheese macaroni. Everything was perfect. I'm not a big steak person but when it melts I'm my mouth I appreciate it a lot more. It was perfectly prepared and seasoned. The macaroni was surprisingly light. At a lot of restaurants this dish feels very heavy so I don't enjoy it as much. Thr 4 cheese macaroni had all the flavor a good macaroni should have and I didn't feel like I had a lead weight in my stomach after dinner- I will order this again! I wrote a glowing review the first time I went to 1818 Chophouse. I was unsurprised when it was named the best steakhouse in the St Louis area. It was a challenge to get reservations since then! We reserved an early dinner two weeks in advance and we're very much looking forward to dinner. Sadly, it was not the experience I had previously. The Caesar salad which was so good before was watery romaine, tasteless Parmesan, and salty croutons. I think they forgot the anchovy paste, lemon, parmesan, and garlic. We both ordered medium rare steaks. Mine was medium. My husband's was well done. It was tough. We each had a steak, I upgraded my potato from the daily whipped potato to the baked potato. We had sodas and split a piece of cake. No alcohol, appetizer, or extras. Over $215 with 20% tip. I will wait for it to become less popular before going back. read more

Good for brunch, really enjoy the atmosphere. The service is pretty good. And their brunch food is pretty yummy occasionally inconsistent but overall pretty darn yummy. It's advisable to make reservations works much better that way they're always pretty busy also check out their sister store and Deli attached to the restaurant lots of High Quality Meats to choose from in a wide range of wines. The last time I visited them for dinner, they had to really work on their steaks. read more

Outstanding Birthday Dinner! A group of 5 of us celebrated 2 birthdays this past weekend, and I can't think of a single thing that wasn't outstanding. We reserved their private room so we could relax and have some extra space for gifts and such. For an extra $25, it was more than worth it and I highly recommend if you want to make the evening just a little more special. The service was perfect (thanks, Sam!) and we all felt like VIPs. The food was also perfect, and I'm a picky foodie. And I'm getting pickier all the time because I'm getting old and I've eaten a lot of meals to compare everything to. ;) We started with two shareable apps, the goat-cheese stuffed dates wrapped in bacon, and the pork belly burnt ends. Both were as tasty and delicious as we wanted them to be. Four of the five of us ordered the special entree of the evening, and we are still raving about it 2 days later. It was sablefish (aka Black Cod) with a citrus hollandaise, on a heaping bed of mashed potatoes, roasted carrots, fennel and some chunky porky bits...oh and kumquats for garnish that added a lovely pop of acid to the dish. The fish was cooked exactly right, as were the veggies, and that sauce! That sauce. So good. And the portion was very large--I had to force myself to stop eating the veg at some point (I definitely ate every bite of fish though) and I was more full than I've been since last Thanksgiving. The salads that came with our entrees were also delicious and generously portioned. I ordered the wedge and was very happy I did--the others were definitely eyeballing it, too, but they said they liked their Caesars. When the complimentary creme brûlées came out with sparkler candles for the two birthday girls, it was the best exclamation point ever on a delightful and delicious birthday celebration!
