Sorry Doc Friday night was a big let down. Showed up at 6pm on a Friday night. Most of the inside tables were full. Waited 30 minutes when I noticed only two tables had food delivered since we sat down. I looked around and counted 18 tables that were sat before us patiently waiting for food. I then saw Doc walk out the door carrying a paper bag that appeared to contain food. Two possible managers going table to table blaming a new line cook for the delay. Here's the issue. Docs items are not cooked to order. Owners don't walk out when 80% of their patrons are experiencing extended waits on food, and one new employee should not be the excuse given at Doc's Smokehouse. Docs has great food, and amazing customer service. Hopefully what happened Friday night is not the new norm. Go try docs, but don't count on it being the service that you're used to getting. read more

Driving through to Kansas and our night stop took us close Doc's and I'd never had St Louis style ribs. We were greeted by a lovely young lady working the register who took our order and we sat down at our assigned table. We were quickly served our drinks and waited for our overly large order (we wanted to try lots of things). The ribs were delicious. Just enough smoke (this is not Texas BBQ) and so juicy. My husband's pulled pork was very good and thankfully did not come sauced already. The turkey very moist and tender and flavorful. Yum. The burnt ends were a little dry, but can be forgiven because it was near the end of the night. We were checked on frequently, drinks refilled. Then we had the opportunity to meet Susan, the owner. If you don't know Susan was a competition BBQ'r for many years before opening her restaurant with her husband and you can see all her trophies and ribbons in the room She graciously bought us some bread pudding and gave me a little secret about it! If you think this is anything other than spectacular there is something wrong with your pallet. We have eaten around the world in some very high end restaurants and that gave us as much satisfaction and joy as many a dessert. Delicious. My husband was trying to be good but sadly had to finish the lot Lovely experience, delicious BBQ. Not as smoky as Texas which is what we are more familiar with but we enjoyed it a lot. We arrived and placed our order at6:07pm. We waited 47 minutes to get our food order. Also, the table beside us had to wait 50 minutes!!!! The kitchen was inundated with to go orders per the manager. They sure don't focus on their dining customers The chicken was the best of my 2 meat combo; the pulled pork did not have a smoked flavor. Hubby's ribs were just ok, again not with smoked flavor, Corn casserole was dry and had no sweetness. The sauces on the table were all with a vinegar taste, even the sweet & smoky sauce. We had to flag down someone to refill our drinks. Overall, the prolonged wait was not worth it. Moving on to a different barbecue restaurant!!!! The bread pudding was okay. read more

I may not grill a pork steak at home again. The one I got here was fork tender, I did not need a knife at all. I could literally stick my fork in and pull a bite off of the 1 1/4" thick steak. They're only available, while they last and they do go fast. I've also enjoyed their, Two Meat Combo. My choices of meat were, Brisket and Burnt Ends. OMG! Best burnt ends I have ever had and I order them a lot when they're available at any BBQ joint. The Brisket is impressive, too. As a side, I always go with Baked Beans. Especially if they are made in house. My other favorite is Mac-n-Cheese. Both of these are done well here at Doc's. Been here a few times and the food is always delicious! Yesterday hubs and I took one of our kids and her boyfriend and it did not disappoint! Hubs and one of kids got the sandwich (Doc's Special maybe) that had sliced brisket, provolone and sautéed onions with a side. Brisket was perfectly cooked and they both enjoyed. Other kid got the half nachos with pulled pork and really liked it. I got the Smokehouse burger which was topped with cheese, pulled pork and onion rings. So good! And they have seasoned fries which are my favorite! And we got the add on of 5 smoked wings. Impulse purchase we didn't need but so good! Service was good, and the atmosphere is as expected. Depends on if you have any dietary restrictions. Right now my wife and I cannot have sugar, or vegetables and therefore no sides. They charged us a full meal just for the meat and wouldn't allow us to just order the meat. $40 for a regular portion of meat is ridiculous. Horrible customer service. read more

Burned ends: nice and tender with a delicious sweet sauce, but fully half of our portion was 100% fat. I expect a good mix of fat and lean in a burned end, not pieces of solid fat. Had high expectations coming in reading the reviews here and on TripAdvisor. Ordered the two meat platter with brisket and half slab. My ribs were very good. Melt off the bone meat. However my wife's order of ribs were heavy on the loose cartilage ends and she did not enjoy them as much given the texture and the need to eat around the cartilage. Brisket was ok - no smoke flavor and not especially tender. On to the sides - baked beans were the best entry. Thick and hearty and delicious. Fries were so-so, Cole slaw was very watery. Avoid like the plague came here at 5 o'clock, and all they had was turkey sandwiches left , not even worth the time to come to see if they have the food you want. And the hostess has not problem telling you that they have nothing left as if they enjoy saying it! I'll start with the positive... The pork steak was by far the most tender thick cut pork steak I've ever been served. The sides I had were good. I had the green beans and the corn casserole. Both well prepared and seasoned and very tasty. The bad... there's no flexibility in the menu at all. If you wanted to try a little if all the meats there's really no way to do that. I can't be the only person that likes to do that. So it would be nice if they had a walk through the smokehouse platter that had literally some small amount of each meat they have that day. The really bad. Someone needs to teach whoever tended the smoker(s) for today's lunch service about fire management and that if there's a plethora of white smoke coming out of your smoker the BBQ is going to taste like soot. It should be that light blue smoke gently wafting from the smoke stack. Today's pork steak and pulled pork both smelled and tasted of soot instead of that wonderful sweet smoked pork. I ate very little of each as the spot was just too much. I'll give them one more try. Maybe whoever was tending the pit got distracted or something. We'll see. read more

This place has really good bbq for a decent price. I got the burnt ends entree which comes with 2 sides, and they even asked whether I wanted the sweet potato fries salted or with cinnamon sugar which was a first for me and definitely increased my respect for the restaurant to offer both. The burnt ends were soft with great smoky flavor. The sweet potato fries were good, and the mac and cheese was fine (nothing special but still good). I have been to Doc's twice and I must say, the food is very good! I've had the smokehouse burger and fries as well as the loaded nachos with brisket. Both were excellent. My son had the brisket sandwich and fries. He enjoyed his as well. I've had BBQ all over the country as I make it a point to get some when I travel and I understand that most of the good restaurants only cook what they plan to sell that day, so I get it but at some point I would think that an adjustment would be made when your burnt ends and ribs are constantly sold out by dinner. So that's my only mild complaint, I'd like to be able to try their burnt ends and ribs without having to get them for breakfast lol! read more
