    Shrimp Taco's - HH
    Steven B.

Bakers & Hale is probably one of the if not the most popular restaurants in the Riverbend area. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They are know for their amazing bands on the patio, which is year round and a pretty decent Happy Hour.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The other day I meet up with some of my cousins for Happy Hour. I cannot go wrong with one of the HH pizzas. Three of the six cousins, ordered pizza with different toppings. I went with the HH Taco's. I enjoyed Two Shrimp Taco's for only $7. The HH pizzas are $10. Three cousins went with the regular menu and enjoyed salads, chicken wings and chicken strips/tenders. Everyone was pleased with their food. The only thing keeping B&H from getting 5 Stars is the service. It's never consistent. One time it's over the top and the next time it's the bare minimum. It really depends on who you get as a server. The seasoned ones who have been for a long time, know how to work a table. The newer and younger ones, just don't get it. They don't hustle and as their station fills up, they get overwhelmed and everything goes downhill. When: January 7, 2026 Why: Happy Hour with the cousins

Greta place to hangout and eat some good food! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere was great and you even have some live music.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I enjoy the way the place is setup![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was average, nothing special with their hospitality. I give the food an 8/10. Queso and salsa was great, but not nothing crazy for a Texan. The burger, however, pleasantly surprised me! We also went near Christmas time and it was popping so that could explain why the service wasn't exquisite. I will most likely be back!

Went in blind (almost literally, was coming from eye appointment, dilated and wearing sunglasses). [[HIGHLIGHT]]That being said it is a nice looking place, lots of wood and clean lines. The decoration, while extensive is all subtle and works with the overall vibe of the place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our food did take a bit to come out, I think we arrived right at the beginning of the lunch surge. It was worth the wait though. My wife got a cheeseburger (The Plain Jane), and fries. She appreciated the nice touch of a lightly toasted bun. I had a Cuban sandwich, and took baked potato for a side. The sandwich seemed small on arrival, but it was actually pretty densely constructed with a good blend of meats. The potato had a great texture. I was quite satisfied, and had to take a pause and deep breath for the last bite of sandwich. Now the funny thing was our lovely young server was a Scarlett Johansen look alike, so much so that my wife and I both had a stunned moment when she walked over. She was very good, checked on us just enough, got everything right without notes. We would definitely come back and try some other dishes next time we are in the area.

The spinach dip was fire!! The shrimp tacos weren't bad. They needed a creamy sauce or something to balance out the heat of the glaze. The wait wasn't long on a Saturday and there was plenty of seating. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place would be great during the cooler fall months.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

The food wasn't as good as I remembered it last time, maybe the chef changed . The staff was very friendly and helpful! [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have live music in the back patio on Friday and Saturday.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Been here twice now and I've come to the conclusion it's one of the better restaurants in the Godfrey, Alton, Bethalto area, really anywhere north east of Edwardsville. It's got a nice casual pub vibe with a huge patio adjacent to the large indoor dining room and bar. Had lunch today with my dad and his girlfriend. Our waitress was excellent. She was informative, kind and helpful. I love that they have extensive daily specials. Sundays was fried chicken with a side for $11. I got the Asian salad with grilled chicken. It was great salad! The grilled chicken was tasty, as was the dressing (so good!). Everyone enjoyed their meal.

Takeout. House salad, grilled chicken, kids chicken strips, balsamic Brussels. Very good.

The food is great. The patio is nice. This is one of the best places to eat in the riverbend area.I would give it 5 stars... but the curb side situation is consistently frustrating. First, don't come on time. It will never be ready. Be a few minutes. Second, do not park where the designated curb side parking markings are before and after the awning. They will never see you. Plant your car under the awning straight in front of the doors. You have to. It's the only way they will see you within ten minutes, without leaving you guessing if they are going to come out to your car. Meanwhile, you get uncomfortable looks from well dressed people, because you have to park in front of the door. This should be addressed, as I have heard the same from several of our friends. Otherwise, we love going here... we just dread curbside, but it's a healthy alternative that tastes great compared to other carry out places.

In addition to their regular menu, DPH always has a Weekly Special Menu. Once I saw what the weekly special pasta was, I had to have it. I am a huge fan of Smoked Salmon and they did theirs in house. The pasta not only had the smoked salmon, it also had sautéed red onion, a tangy European style cream cheese sauce and cavatappi pasta with fried cappers and fresh dill. The cream sauce was perfect. It was just a light covering, enough for flavor without being overwhelming. As always, the portion was healthy, so I had leftovers for the next days lunch. I enjoyed it chilled and it was like eating a cold pasta salad. DPH always gets bonus points from me for having eco-friendly to-go vessels. My adult beverage of choice for the seafood pasta, was a glass of Pinot Gris. I prefer a Grigio, but they only had the Gris. Gris is fairly similar to Grigio. Do you love large breast? If so you need to visit Castelli's and have their fried chicken dinner…read more The breast they serve, are the largest I have ever seen and the accompanying pieces are impressive as well. Thick meaty thighs, curvaceous legs and wings that look as if the chicken has been pumping iron at the local gym. Big pieces, crispy flavorful coating and juicy meat. I primarily do carry-out and the quality of their take out is equally as good as when dining in the restaurant. Pick-up is smooth and fast, as they have a separate entrance and room for take-out. The staff is friendly and very professional. The service has that family owned business feel. If you're a fan of Onion Rings, I recommend enjoying an order as an appetizer. Their rings are super big and made in house. I do not like onion rings that come from a bag. When ordering my sides, I like mashed potatoes with white gravy. They also offer brown gravy, if that is your thing. My other side is always green beans. They make their green beans with bacon and onion. It reminds me of my momma's. With those two sides, it is a true Sunday Chicken Dinner on any day of the week. I've been coming to Castelli's my entire life. I started coming here as a child when it was called, Moonlight. Many of the locals still call it, Moonlight and no-one will correct them, because we all know where they are talking about. Service in the carry-out room is always speedy and friendly. So if you're a fan of fried chicken, I recommend ordering on-line for a pick-up. Or, treat yourself to a night out and dine in the restaurant. Remember to order the onion rings.

A while back when I went in for my regular fix of a Pork Tenderloin Sandwich, the waitress asked me if I ever tried the grilled. When I said, no, she told me I had to give it a try. So, I did and now it is my way of ordering a Pork Tenderloin Sandwich. The piece of grilled meat is as big as the fried. It hangs off the bun. All you need to add is some white onion, pickles and lettuce. Some add a tomato, but that's not my thing. Also, just like when I enjoy a fried Pork Tenderloin, I upgrade to fries. Chips just don't do it for me. The service is always top notch. The ladies working are always so friendly. They make everyone feel comfortable while dining. Jimmy taught his staff well. I miss him always being there, but the ladies are making sure his legacy lives on. Another big plus when you come to, Johnsons Corner is the other patrons. It truly is a neighborhood bar. Sorry but I have to say it. I'd read a similar review before I ordered but I knew JCorners and I thought I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. Nope. $17 after tax and tip - for just a salad and it has NO meat. ONE anchovy slice. Literally ONE black olive ... a sprinkling of cheese. And a whole lot of [admittedly fresh] lettuce and croutons. Was so looking forward to this salad. Very sad & disappointed in an Alton staple business. The other reviewer had pretty much the exact same experience with the exact same order and said her waitress (mine was a to-go order) blamed it on a new chef. But the chef can't be "new" for long. And making a salad is pretty darn basic cooking-101. Doubt I'll be back. Jimmy would be so disappointed. May he rest in peace
