Came here this last week with my family and overall the food and the service was NOT good. The chicken in the chicken parm was so thick and contained cartilage like material that ruined the rest of the dish. For service, we were sat immediately (4 other tables were dining at the the time) and servers consistently walked past us for 15 minutes. Finally after we spoke up, someone came over to get us water and bread. Overall, I have had much better Italian food in my life that hasn't come from north end or any chain restaurant. I really have no idea why there is so much hype around this restaurant. Agree with other reviewers that others haven't gotten out much. read more

Portions do border on insanity - I will say that. I ordered via DoorDash as I was craving carbonara (it's been a weird craving for me lately). On the menu, they have a tortellini carbonara which wasn't really appealing to me, but they did allow you to sub for a different type of pasta. They offered linguini or angel hair, so I went with angel hair. Additionally, I ordered up an appetizer of garlic bread. The order came quickly via DoorDash and was still hot. I was confused, however, because I didn't get garlic bread, I got a white pizza. In a pizza box. With loads of cheese and garlic, but it was a pizza nonetheless. Don't get me wrong, it was delicious, but I ordered food for just myself. I didn't need an entire white pizza in lieu of the half a baguette with garlic and butter that I was expecting. The carbonara was oozing oil and the consistency isn't what I'm used to. The flavor was lovely, but I kept getting splashed by oil when I was trying to eat and it was off-putting. I much prefer a creamier texture for carbonara. I want to reiterate that this meal was by no means bad! It was simply unexpected, I think. The menu boasts a lot of Italian staples that I would love to try in the future and now that I know what to expect in terms of portion sizes, I am pretty excited to order some stuff to share. read more

A standard Italian American restaurant which serves huge servings for a decent price. Gennaro's is a great place if you want to feel super stuffed. The main dishes are big enough to bring home for another meal or to share with someone else. The food is pretty standard in taste for their pastas and other dishes. The pizzas come in small, large, and sicilian. The crust for the small and large are thin crust and triangular sliced while the sicilian is more chewy and rectangular shaped. The toppings for the pizzas are pretty unique and tasty. The décor feels pretty old school but it has a nice homey feel and the service is really nice and friendly. They also have a take out section right in the front and a variety of desserts and pastries to bring home. There's also a small parking lot in the back. read more

My husband and I ordered dinner from Gennaro's on Wednesday night and we're so pleased with our meals and the packaging. I ordered shrimp scampi with white wine and lemon sauce and asked if could have broccoli added and was told yes! My husband ordered chicken parm with angel hair, a side garden salad and a side of meatballs. We picked up the food, brought it home across town and both meals were double wrapped with saran over the plastic containers which kept our food super hot and just delicious. Everything was sooo good! We even split a piece of chocolate cake which was moist and chocolaty and pure decadence- just a great dinner experience all around! I love eating here. It's best to come when it's not the main meal times since the service and food will be better. I had the pastrami Stromboli this time since I love pastrami and it was one of the best I've had. It wasn't too salty or dry like some other places. Our family had delivery tonight from Genaros and we agree it was the BEST meal we have ever had! Started with a deliciously rich lobster ravioli in lobster bisque.....OMG! Next was black linguini with calamari scampi, so rich. I had the baked ziti a pasta fit for a queen. If you eat here you are in for a treat, it is the finest food in Quincy. I ordered the Christmas Baked Ham dinner to be served to my family on Christmas Day. Had worked all week up until Christmas Eve and wasn't planning to prepare a Christmas day meal. I ordered six meals and requested that the same items be packed in the same containers so that I could serve family style. After arriving home Christmas Eve, I discovered that I had six separate meals that were packaged separately. There was no candied carrots as advertised; instead it was a Birds-Eye like vegetable medley which had cross contaminated the mashed and squash. The "Baked Ham" that was advertised looked more like boiled deli ham just sliced a little thicker and placed on top of the mushed up, cross contaminated sides. There was also some sort of a cherry glaze that tasted like a Shirley Temple. Keep in mind, these dinners cost $18.00 each. After discovering that I could not use the meals that Genaros sold me for Christmas Dinner, I immediately tossed everything in the trash. I defrosted a steak roast that I happened to have on hand and got up early Christmas morning to prepare a dinner from scratch. Thank goodness I had the supplies on hand to do so. The only positive note to this meal is that I also ordered a gingerbread cookie kit that I thought was put together well and everyone enjoyed. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this establishment to anyone based on the quality of what they consider a Christmas meal. I ordered the chicken parm with angel hair pasta, and she got the veal parm sub. It has got to be the worst chicken parm I've ever had. The chicken was tough as boot leather, and the sauce was incredibly bland. Where's the garlic? Where're the spices? It was tough and tasteless. The veal parm sub was also lacking anything approaching flavor. The veal was surprisingly cooked very well and was tender. Skip this place. Nothing was expressly bad, but I would've liked to tasted something when eating. Had to throw away over 1/2 the food we ordered. Go somewhere else. read more

This review is based on my last dining experience. Came in on a Saturday night for dinner around 6:30 with a table of 4. The hostess took my name down and noted the party size. However, we waited for half and hour and during that time a table of three and four were sat before us and those parties clearly came after mine. I asked the hostess how much longer since I noticed the other parties being sat. Her response was so rude. She said,"It's a full house, I can't make anyone hurry and leave!" Fifteen minutes later she was about to seat a party of four AGAIN, and she stopped by saying,"You have to wait longer since you're FIVE people." To which I responded by telling her we are 4, which I saw her write down and then she's like,"Well, okay. Fine come this way." Still gets four stars since the waitress was really friendly and it's the best bang for your buck in Quincy for delicious Italian food. I got the chicken cacciatore with angel hair, my parents shared the frutti del mar (and still had leftovers) and my bf had the lasagna. Even during these trying times, Gerry and his hard-working staff still manage to put out some of the best meals my family and I have ever had, and we frequent Italy often, so that's saying something. Recently, I ordered the chicken saltimboca, a huge pizza for the kids, and a Mediterranean salad for my wife. The food quality and quantity for take-out was as delicious and piping hot as when we have dined in in the past. An excellent local Italian shop, and apparently a local staple. I was at a graduation party that they catered from here, and I picked up the food for them. Even catered, the food was fresh, tasty, and not soggy because they made it right before we picked it up. The staff were extremely friendly and they carried all the food out to our car for us. I call places like Gennaro's "Suburban Italian." It's honest food in big dining rooms served on the cheap by friendly staff. The folks that come to places like this have been for years, and will be for years to come. The key is the consistency - the sauce I had with my massive $8 calzone is likely the same exact sauce served a decade before. They sat two of us on a Saturday night after a mere five minute wait, and had us out with full bellies and doggie bags within the hour. The calzones here are delicious. My family has called in a phone order for pick up on Sundays, and enjoyed a delicious meal while the football games were on TV. John wanted sushi, I wanted to not pay $50 for a dinner that wouldn't fill me up. Somehow after my 26+ years living in the Quintree area I had never been to Gennaro's but the excellent Yelp reviews led us here on a Saturday night. Oh right, did I mentioned it was a Saturday night? You know, the night you shouldn't even bother going out for dinner because the wait everywhere is absurd? Well not only did I call Gennaro's to ask how long the wait was (the guy on the phone said "5 minutes, come on down, thanks!") but we got there and waited probably 3 minutes. Inconceivable! Anyways, our waitress was super nice - warm, chatty, offering good suggestions and substitutions for no cost. The place definitely has a welcoming, community feel. The specials were downright cheap! The fussili with onions and eggplant was $13 and the portion was so huge I had to take 2/3 of it home. Great value! It was also totally delicious too. All in all we paid $27 for a filling, hearty, home-cooked meal. I walked out totally satisfied. We grabbed 3 cookies on the way out from the bakery (for the movie we were heading to in Randolph) - $0.50 each and delicious! read more

We made reservations for Tuesday, February 14/valentines day for 6 PM. We arrived at 5:50 and we were seated. We did not get a waitress until 45 minutes later. We ordered the Valentine's Day special and the appetizer arrived 35 minutes later and it was stone cold (stuffed mushrooms) and they ran out so they gave us three mushrooms and two arancinos and those were so dry. So we did not eat them. The people to the right of us were obviously frequent customers because they knew the waitress, had idle chat how each were doing and they were served before us. They were asked several times how are you doing? The people to the left of us came in a half hour after us and they were served their main meal before us. After finishing a bottle of wine we were never asked if we needed anything more to drink, or any more water, or why we didn't eat the appetizers that were stone cold. We waited another 45 minutes and decided to get up and leave. We went to the takeout section and told them that we wanted to pay for the bottle of wine we ordered and that we had been there for over 2 hours and the people to the left of us and to the right of us were served yet we weren't and not once did our waitress check in on us. They comped us for the wine which was a seven dollar bottle of wine according to total wine and asked us if we wanted a dessert to go and we refused. Thank you for comping the wine. We totally understand when a place may be understaffed and we appreciate that but when others around us are being taken care of by the same waitress half hour plus after us arriving that's unacceptable. And the fact that she never checked in on us to see if we needed anything to drink or to see how the appetizer was is unacceptable. We will not be going back. Gennaro's Eatery has an old Italian family place feel to it. The Menu had a lot to pick from, It was so big that I had to ask the waitress to suggest a plate. She suggested the chicken gennaro which is Chicken, eggplant, prosciutto and buffalo mozzarella in a pesto sauce (with pine nuts) romamo cheese marinara sauce over linguine. It was really good the ingredients just complimented each other to create a flavorful bite. Everyone in our group didn't finish their plates because they give you a large portion(family size). You have to share with someone to finish it all in one sitting. I would go here again just to try more of the menu. The staff are very friendly and prices are not bad for the large portions that you receive. read more

I met this restaurant even before the additional seating. the food was so unbelievably good I wanted to lick the plate clean. After the addition the food started slacking in flavor and service became not pleasant. I stopped going when my daughter and I had ordered a pizza and a chicken Marsala and we said good we will have a little of both worlds and split each others food. So after many years I had been seeing nice reviews and said lets go back maybe just for dessert. I got an eclair a whoopie pie and 2 chocolate chip cookies. As i took a bite of each item I found them to be dried out. The whoopie pie cake was dry and the whipped cream was crusty and hard, the eclair pate Chou on the slice to cut in have was hard and crusty in the inside where it should have been moist from the filling and the cookies was over cooked and hard as a rock. I called to inform them of this and their answer was they were made today...Could there be a chance these were leftovers from days before no he said. there is no way this stuff gets this crusty in hours. I asked for my money back and he said I need to return the items to be reimburse even if it was going to take me a month or longer to get back there.So I did, I kept these awful crappy pastries just to return for 11/2 months so they could see I didn't eat their food. He gave me money back without argument but still shame on them for not trusting the customer because needless to say a month later they definitely were hard he just wanted to make sure if I was to get my money back I was not to have eaten them so that I could actually just thrown them away. Waitress was fantastic. Super fast and friendly! The food! Holy moly!! The food is out of this world delicious!!! We started off with mozzarella sticks and toasted ravioli!! Delicious! I got the potato gnocchi with meat sauce and every single bite was scrumptious!! The meat sauce is perfection on a plate. I got the lunch size and its huge!! The prices can't be beat either. Super wallet friendly. We love it here!!! My cousin said his steak tips were cooked exactly as ordered and another cousin who ordered the buffalo chicken calzone loved it!! We couldn't believe the size of this when it came out. Their deserts are out of this world amazing too!! And right now if you check in on Yelp you get one free desert after you buy a meal (dine in only). Place is clean and bathroom was clean too. Also, there's a hook on the wall in the bathroom so you can hang your purse while your in there! This small but oh so helpful feature always makes me happy! I love that this place once shared the building with a photo store ( they still have a sign for it in the tiny parking lot) But what it lacks in parking it makes up for in food, service and charm. My boyfriend took me there about 2 years ago and ever since I have discovered my inner Italian. Its ammazingly good food for a totally reasonable deal.
